Dell has officially added the remote as a selectable option to the configurator. No more freebies.
They have two remotes, the IR remote ($15), and the "Remote for windows home premium" ($14)
-
well mine was already supposed to be free, so now I just want the right one. As long as it works with my laptop, fits in my xprescard slot, and controls my media, I don't give a hoot what model they send me.

After 3 reps and 2 supervisers all telling me the same thing, im pretty sure its the truth. if you want the correct remote you have to wait until you have your notebook. After dell was inundated with complaints on the remotes, they added the feature on the site, and added remotes to SOME notebooks for free on orders placed before the add on. For them to know who needs one and who doesnt you have to wait until you get your notebook before you call.
-
so you mean to tell me that my laptop might come with the remote even though it isn't listed in my order?
-
I doubt you could use any old remote with it.

As some of you know, I was gonna get the dv6500t, but I got the dell just because of the video card.
Should have gone with the HP.... Remote, FP reader and no headache.
By the way, guys, is there an IR port in the front - because if there is, I guess you can configure a tv remote with it. -

the hp also has hdmi, that was the tough decision for me, until i went with dell and got this price with this vid card.

The Infrared (IR) port on Dell portable computers that are compatible with the Dell Travel Remote is designed to only work with the Dell Travel Remote. The IR port on Dell Travel Remote compatible Dell portable computers is receive-only and does not function with any other IR peripheral device.
I doubt it'll work with the other remote =/ -
I do agree with you about the HDMI thing, especially if you are paying $600 for a Blu Ray player. -
Anyone else have luck?
-
i'm over it now. i spent 5 days now trying to get it. had agents start to send out 3 wrong remotes, got switched to 14 different agents and divisions. i'm just done.
it's so frigging retarded, and now my epp is saying i'm negative when i was positive 30 a day ago.
**** dell. -
EPP saying that you are negative?
-
oh sorry DPA is saying i'm negative for some reason. Got to call on Monday for that. Got to send back the wrong remote once I get it. Got to basically just get my laptop and never talk to Dell again. Well my laptop and bag for it. Then i'm done for 2 years.
I cannot believe how impossible it is to get a stupid remote. -
damn, sorry to hear you so down monk. Hopefully my case manager will have better luck for me.
-
liquid, if your case manager hooks you up, can you be sure to please pass my order info I gave you over to them so maybe I can get hooked up to?
-
All the Dell reps I spoke to in the last 3 days about the remote GUARANTEE**** that the "Remote for Windows Media Center 2005" will WORK for the inspiron 1721. I said I didn't think so, and she GUARANTEED it will work..if it does I'll live with it. It's what I want, only bigger. I don't think it will work personally, and that guarantee will turn into a "i guarantee I will send you something else for guaranteeing you something I shouldn't have."
-
-
What does it mean when your negative? Blacklisted?
-
lordofericstan Notebook Evangelist
the wrong remote is suppose to be at my house before 3:00 monday.
-
no i mean that i had a positive DPA account meaning I had money left on it. Then yesterday it went negative for no reason, meaning they must have charged me for something without me knowing it.
So now it says I am over my balance/limit. -
I guess if I buy a system, I'll have to pay $15 to get it?
It's worth it though, I think. -
I got the BLUETOOTH remote for free by calling!
-
Wow... what did you say?
-
It's really a long story...I just got lucky, and she couldn't pull up the remote part number I gave her so she just gave me the only remote that she could, the bluetooth one...

Sure thing Monk, always glad to help.
I am glad to hear that DB, because if my case manager can't get me the right remote I will push hard and fast for that bluetooth one. And with it looking like even my 1520 will be delayed, you can bet she will most likely be looking to make me happy. But I do have to say, Mallika has been awesome to me, very straightforward, or at least skilled enough to make it look like she was, oh and she speaks ENGLISH...lol. You can tell by her name she isn't American, but she speaks english very very well. I find this to be of a very dear import to me as my last case manager, I could not understand her half the time and would just get frustrated and hang up. -
Well, as I kind of figured would happen, she wrote me this morning and this was her response:
"And in reference to the part # 412-0961 for the remote control wanted you to know that we don?t have the access to place the order for that part reason being that we may not have the item being manufactured any longer. So kindly give me another part number for the remote as the order that I placed for the remote under the part # 412-0781 has been cancelled as you said that it was the incorrect item."
So, as I said, I immediately sent the part # for the bluetooth remote, and we will see what happens.
As for the bag I requested to any interested, she said she would try her best go get me that bag, so take that as you will... -
My rep got me the 17" belkin notebook sleeve, AND sent me that media center remote. If it doesn't work, to eBay it goes. Given the fact that I didn't pay to have bluetooth enabled on my laptop, I can't push for that remote. oh well.
-
Yeah, Bluetooth is a major thing I wanted. I don't want anything that doesn't have to be plugged in, plugged in. Also if I ever switch to a company that offers cellular broadband at a decent price I could use the bluetooth to hook it up to my phone and use it like that.
-
Meaningless to me since I got a 17". I don't mind being stuck to wires as I'm not going to be moving around much with the laptop. The furthest I can see myself going is the bathroom, and it has a wireless NIC so..problem solved lol.
(and even if it didn't, I have 4 50ft. ethernet cables) :x -
OK, so has anyone received a remote (not originally shipped) and if so, has it worked??
-
I have to brag, I got the media edition remote and I am going to get the express slot one for free.
-
DMAK..how are you certain you're getting the express one? I don't think they even have a # for it. I went up and down with techs and reps and NO expresscard remote part # exists..
-
I wonder what would happen if I played dumb and not return the remote once I receive the new one...since they said they'd be sending me a return label with the new package.
-
412-0961. I said the name of it is Dell Travel Remote Control. He went told me that he looked up the number and the name of it is Dell Travel Remote Control. From the sounds of it, he confirmed that this is the right one.
-
Lol. They confirmed that it didn't exist with me at all yesterday. Then she comes back and says she confirmed she has it, and shes sending it to me. I check my order status..it's a media center 2005 lol. Please verify it through order status or something. I can't wait to see what monstrosity shows up at critic's door lol. They ordered him something that doesn't exist as a part #.
-
As per your sig:
i got free upgraded shipping..
i got $130 for my inconveniences..one included a rude rep that cancelled my order and would not re-order my new laptop
i got a free laptop bag
i got a new remote..its the wrong one..but its NEW!! lol -
They would probably charge you for it Critic
-
Can't confirm until my laptop is here, then I have to call back to execute the freebie
-
Hold on a minute guys. I actually had a Rep to the point where he entered an order for the 412-0961, but then he backed it out saying it's non-existent or something, that it would never actually and that any orders out there for it would be automatically canceled after 3 days cuz the part doesn't really exist on it's own. What a crock...
Critic- did you actually get it yet? Does it work?? -
I ordered a 1420 and never got an option for a remote, how do I get this?
-
-
WTF again. I emailed them (Dell) TWO days ago and they did not even respond! WTF do I have to get to get a freakin remote?? I don't even want to get it for free, I am willing to pay - just want the remote...
This is ridiculous.
[offtopic]F@#K the DMV[/offtopic] -
You guys should say, when I ordered my laptop... There was no option to pick a remote, but Now i saw that you are able. I want to get the Dell Travel Remote, blah blah. You have to make up the rest to get it for free.
-
I went to the DMV today and wasted 2 and a half hours to take the written test. After that, I waited online for another hour. I got everything I needed, but some freaking monkey that works there said that I should have had my parent/guardian's signature on it,
OK, but WHY THE HELL did you not tell me that BEFORE I spent 3 hours to take the freaking test and stayed online,
She said that I have to "come back and take the test again, we do not keep your test" and smiled at me,
Now this crap really pissed me off. I hate the fact that companies try to save money on their CUSTOMER SERVICE,
they hire IDIOTS, my 5 year-old brother could do it better -
-
Just wait till you get your laptop first. I hear it works better if you tell them that you thought your laptop would come with one by default, but you already received it and did not get one, and want to get one, but can't get it because it's not on the website. That's what I'm gonna do when my lappie comes.
-
In fact, the only option they could possibly give me was (don't laugh) to send back my Inspiron and order a new one with the remote preconfigured.
You can't make this stuff up! -
I was told by three reps that it could not be ordered. Then later in the day, the first rep called me back and said she found a way to order it. But, the production still hasn't shipped...
No, I did not get charged. I didn't even give them my credit card number. -
I think its absolutely ridiculous you can't get it on the site as it's own seperate purchase, and have to cancel and re-do the order. Isn't there some way we can complain or whine enough until we get what we want?
Dell Inspiron Remote, I got it
