So about 30 minutes ago, someone from Dell called me to tell me that the remote was out for delivery.
This time it was the rep who helped me originally with this remote fiasco, whom I promptly ditched (and ignored) as I called back to speak with someone else as I was getting impatient. Anyways, I guess she was a bit disappointed with me since I didn't follow her advice to NOT talk with someone else...because she said that the -0781 may not be the right one. She told me that the -0961 part # is correct...
Anyways, the remote will be arriving in the next few hours so we will see. -

Critic, yeah I had it verified 3x now that the -0961 is the correct part. I am getting the other one too, but an agent last night told me once my PC shows shipped he is sending me the -0961 one out.

It was through a chat agent. I'm still working on my sales agent guy. No clue yet. I have to wait till my laptop ships. It's in build phase now, but delayed due to the glossy LCD.

im on the fone with some indian right now whos telling me that the 0961 part number is the INCORRECT product for my system (1420) because its only a bundled item for a different system. I tried to call his bluff using this forum site as an example.......and now im on hold

after an hour of meaningless negotiating with some indian rep, he didnt include a thing. I brought up both part numbers (for both remotes u guys listed), and i stated every point that everyone else in this thread brought up. He said that the 0961 remote is only for vostro laptops, and u need a tv tuner in order for the other remote that critic got to work. In the end, he offered me nothing for compensation and made me wait on hold for multiple 20 minute intervals. **** DELL

"If it's not on the Dell website I can't do anything... It costs 30 dollars to include it. It does not come by default..."
WTF? I said can I talk to somebody else? He said no this is the only department that does that...

I was also told it does NOT come as standard, and if I wanted one I could order one. I declined. I probably wouldn't use it anyway to be honest. But you can't fault a guy for trying eh?
I'm more upset by them adding 2 weeks to the estimated ship date, after i placed the order..
Went from July 17 to July 31.. grr -
If I'm getting a Blu Ray drive, I expect a remote....certainly I'd use the remote if I'm buying a high-end optical drive.
I'm not sure why the remote is a big deal to the rest of you who don't have the expensive optical drive or high-end screen resolution though. -

Anyways, don't give up guys. Keep trying. It's do-able. I had to speak to three different reps in order to get the correct part ordered. Two of the three reps claimed the item # could not be ordered. Well, apparently the third one was able to.
Someone needs to change the original post. 412-0961 is the correct part number. -

That is pretty rude, I would call in and complain about him, as well as about how he dealt with your situation, seems like he was very dismissive. Has your remote already shipped? Can't they just ask for you to send it back and send you another then?
