I just ordered a 1520 and chose the Dell Travel Remote, IR for 15 dollars. I asked a customer service person what the difference is between the choice of the Dell Travel Remote, IR and the Remote Control for Vista Premium....she said something along the lines of the Travel Remote being the one that fits in the express card slot (makes sense because its for traveling) and that the Premium remote is larger...she gave me a website to see the Travel Remote specs...but I can't find it right now

Ok just got it ordered. I'll have the order information on monday, 3-5 day shipping.
I triple-checked with the agent, and the part number Dmac had is the Travel Remote / IR. I asked the agent why does it say Media Center 2005, and he said that regardless of what it says, that is the travel remote / ir that dell ships.. so fingers crossed. -
shoot, oh well. They are sending me the 412-0781 one, I wonder what it is.
Nevertheless, the rep said that if it turns out to be the wrong one, they'll work out an exchange. -

Yeah critic, Guess we will see what the other part number one looks like tomorrow when you get it. Will you post a photo of it for all of us. The agent tells me that the 0961 number doesn't exist, so I think it's a bundle only one.

Hah. I *****ed out an Indian customer service manager, and said I think for the 4 days of trying to just order a laptop I should get a free bag or something.
She told me once the laptop ships she will get an order for a laptop for me.
I have her email and notes stating that she would, so that's good enough for me to come back at Dell with. -

It's official, we cannot get the one that agentbubba got yet because it is not on the website via part number. So I'm getting the same one as Critic and hoping it fits. It not, I was told that I could return it and get the correct one, once that Part Number agentbubba gave is on the website.

Dmak: I didn't yell. I just told her how I spent all night Monday night trying to order, then had problems. Then spent all day tuesday on the phone with sales and in chat, and kept getting sent to different departments and no one would help me, and that i felt I should be compensated for all the time I had been trying to just order a laptop. Then i told her the last sales guy i talked to was extremely nice and made me feel a bit better. She was like well what can we do to make you feel better and keep your order? (I had mentioned I might cancel, because I was just so tired and frustrated).. I said.. how bout one of those color-coordinated bags you have. She said no problem. Once the order ships, just email back to her with case number and she'll handle it. I told her can I have an email stating that you'll send me one and she said no problem.

I might send an email to my case manager and explain that I read that you had some issues with getting your laptop and you ended up getting a free laptop bag out of the deal and see what she says. I just feel like she will tell me no because she did just get me the remote, but at the same time, My original order dates back to May 14, and I still have no freakin laptop. My current order is due to ship on the 18th, if it doesn't ship then, I think i will use that to ask about the laptop bag. Because I really don't need it, as I have a backpack for carrying mine around in, but it would be nice to have one when I am not going to school and just want to take the laptop with me. The biggest thing that makes me mad about all their "Customized" laptop bags to accessorize your color is that they have NOTHING for the Sunshine Yellow notebooks. Green, pink, red... yeah, but nothing for the yellow laptop. But I really don't expect they will send me a nice colorful one anyway, but even a cheap basic one will do for a little light traveling. I plan on buying a different backpack this next semester for my laptop. One that supports up to 17" so I can put my laptop in the sleeve I got and then put it in my backpack for added security against mishaps.

You should mention to your case manager, all of the troubles about the remote, and how someone did order a brand new inspirion and had a part number for that travel remote too... maybe help us all out.. haha... then we can have your case manager send out remotes to all of our orders haha -

The reason I say the 412-0961 is the legit one is because Agentbubba bought via the US Dell a laptop and did actually pay for the remote via the option in the 1520 section and that is what his invoice said, plus he had a link to it's guide and that looks like it. -
I do have to ask, why are we trying to trade a $30 remote for a $15 one?
I am willing to bet they are the same remote, just different part #'s for how it is ordered. If it is included in the notebook order, this is the #...., if it is ordered seperately, this is the #.... see what I mean? -
Yup, I just checked Dell's site, and it appears that the management has caught up with us. I guess too many of us called in and they figured out what we were trying to do.
Too bad for them though, realistically, since they already made the commitment of shipping some of us the remote, there's NO way that they'd leave us hanging with the wrong remote. So if it turns out to be the wrong one, it would only make sense for them to exchange it for the correct one. -
oh yeah, the reason I say that is that if you look in their accessories, they only have 1 remote, and i believe that is the same remote as was shown in that first guy's review, can't remember his name, andrew maybe? Anyways, that is why I think it's the same remote, just different numbers to base the price on. And I am willing to bet the $15 one is with the notebook order, the $30 one is seperate but kind of with the notebook order, and the $60 one is a nice pretty retail boxed one.

well if that's the case then no one try to get a free bag until my case manager gets back to me on mine...lmao. honestly though, no offense monk, but I went through ten kinds of hell more then you in trying to get my damn laptop. I had one night that a rep called my house 2x trying to get a hold of me to tell me that my vid card was not going to come back in (nvid 7300) and they needed to upgrade me to the X1400, (oh darn..lol) but they needed my permission. After 5 reps, and 3 hours later, I come to figure out that Dell is incredibly stupid. No one knew what the hell i was talking about. Finally after a couple days of email tag I finally got a rep that knew what i was talking about, got the order changed and they gave me a ship date of JULY 16th!! I was royally pissed. Keep in mind I ordered this on May 14th. So a full two months later, and I still have no laptop. I understand that I cancelled my order a couple days later in lieu of the 1520, but the guy had told me they wouldn't be getting the X1400 chips in, until the day before my laptop was due to ship, so it still would not be here regardless. So out of anyone I have read about, I deserve a free bag damnit...lol. Sorry, I feel better now that I have vented that. And also keep in mind this is only one of many incidents i went through. -

I do take back what I said about the 1 remote thing. Not necessarily the part # thing, but the fact that I just saw another review that said the guy got a remote for free, and looking at the remote I noticed it is not the same one listed in the accessories section of the Dell website. So there are in fact at least 2 known remotes, that I know of. I can't wait to see some pics of Critics to know which one we are getting.
Critic, will you have your laptop tomorrow so you can tell us whether or not that part no: will in fact work with the 1520?

that's pretty crappy that it doesn't show a estimated arrival date, or the type of shipping they put it on: next day, 3-5... I have never used DHL before, have any of you guys? Oh yeah I have, they shipped my Logitech bluetooth mouse through them. I never cared to look at the tracking info though, since the laptop wasn't going to be sent yet. I tell you what though, if you guys want a BT mouse that is extremely responsive, has a cool little carrying case, and you don't have to mess with dongles or anything, the logi V270 is one sweet little mouse. I have a BT setup on my desktop so I was able to at least test it to see if it works, man, you wanna talk about sensitive, it puts my MS mouse to shame. I had to work at getting used to it, every time I would move the mouse just a little bit it was across the screen...lol. I think I might look and see if there is a review on the site for it, if not I will write one. It's a little more expensive then other mice, but for not having to plug anything into my USB's that is highly worth it to me, especially since that is the no: 1 thing I have seen people have messed up on their lappys was from screwed up USB's.

ok, something funky is going on, when I went to check my order status for the umpteenth time today (i'm obsessing over my laptop getting shipped) the remote order was showing up when i clicked on my account, but my other order (the actual laptop) was not showing up? Any ideas as to why?

davron, you never pushed for the remote to be given complimentary, you will have to do that if you want it free. But for the reps sake, do it politely, inform them of the reviews you have seen, and the posts you have read about all these people getting the remotes for free and how you don't see it on your order and that you would like to get it complimentary as the other people have. -

Its retarded to get compensated for the vid card before you get it, atleast in my mind. Whats so bad about waiting, i think dell would be more inclined to offer a deal if you get your notebook and call them up like WTF?? i didnt want this, i would have bought this computer from this company if i knew you were going to lie to me about the video card! Doesn't that sound more reasonable than hey i think you are going to give me the wrong thing! another discount! more free stuff!
