Anyone know if the UK 7577 comes with a fingerprint scanner?
-
Theoretically it should. I ordered mine two days ago (1050ti, Italian version) and on the final tech sheet I received via email it says it has the fingerprint reader. As we are usually treated as a "third world country" when it comes to computer parts and notebooks, I guess the UK version should have it too
-
thanks in advance.. -
I just received my 7577 base model with the i5 and 256 NVMe and have added 32gb of Ram and a 1TB HDD (WD Black 7200 rpm). So far I've only played Doom on Ultra and tweaked a few things in terms of software, but I can provide some initial impressions.
1) The build quality is excellent. The keyboard is rock solid, the lid has very little flex and overall this is a great quality build for such a relatively cheap laptop.
2) The red lighting scheme honestly doesn't bother me as much as I thought it might. Frankly I'm kind of used to it already, even though I'm an old hand at the 7559.
3) The fingerprint scanner is brilliant. I've never had one before and this is a really nice touch.
4) The screen is average. I'm generally pretty fussy about screens and couldn't wait to replace the 7559's awful TN abomination, but the screen here is OK enough that I probably won't bother. It's fairly bright and while the colours are kind of pale and undersaturated, it's not bad enough that I'm going to rush out and replace it. The one knock here is that it doesn't support g-sync and I could see some mild screen tearing on Doom on ultra settings (which it played like a champion by the way).
5) Speaking of Doom the fans did a great job of keeping the laptop cool, but you can really hear them when they kick in. I would definitely recommend headphones for long gaming sessions.
6) And now the biggest knock against this machine so far. To put it simply, when I installed the WD drive the back no longer snaps back together properly. The reason (I'll try and post pictures on this later) is that the back panel has some blue felt on it to presumably protect the hard drive and when you install the drive it pushes the whole bottom right hand corner out of whack. I don't know if this is because I'm using a HDD and an SSD or SSHD would be different, but it is clearly a design flaw. It's not that anything internal is exposed, but it is not snapping back together there properly. Weird.Last edited: Oct 26, 2017 -

Actually its not bothering me but in my country India its cost me ₹125000 ( $1923) for full hd, 256gb ssd model. If i paid a premium price for this model am expecting the laptop with no faults. ( maybe I expect too much )
If possible can you please share your laptop screen picture with black screen that might help me to understand backlight bleed more
If possible can you please share your laptop screen picture with black screen thanks.
Here is mine its not much but its there in the top-middle

There is a really small amount of backlight bleed at the top which somehow I missed before - whoops! However my initial impression of the screen changed considerably when I compared it to my GL702VM and the LP156WF6 screen I put on my 7559.
I'm know thinking seriously about switching the screens from the 7559 to the 7577.vikram0136 likes this. -

Mine looked pretty much identical to the image above.

Got my machine yesterday, because the internet connection was bad at my place, I had to wait until today to set the machine up at my university.
First impressions,
1. Build quality: Bulky, decent
2. Accessibility: Very good, you can access the components and clean the fan pretty easily.
3. Screen: Decent but not great, it's OK when you use indoors, against the lights, but it's not great in sunlight. The brightness is around 250 nits. The color is not very good, compared with my 2017 MacBook Pro (Of course it should not be as good as the Mac)
4. Noise: Yes, when the fan kicks in the noise is notable, but this can be fixed by using a headphone.
5. Temperature: Have not yet tested.
6. Speakers: Nice, but if you block the front of the PC it'll degrade pretty obviously.
The McAfee subscription came with the machine is 1 year, somewhat useful.
It's recommended that you reinstall the system on day 1. -
I have few queries regarding the variant sold in INDIA
1) The SSD installed is of samsung ? SAMSUNG PM961 ? any idea about sequential read/write speeds?
2) The Indian Model comes with fingerprint sensor? maybe a screenshot with HWInfo be good ?
3) Whats the Base and Boost clock of the 1060 MQ ?
4) What's the maximum overclocking that can be done to the GPU ? 200Mhz or more ?
5) The Adapter is 180Watt ?
Thanks in advance -

2) Yes comes with fingerprint sensor. HWInfo is same as described in dell.in website
3)
4) Am not familiar with overclocking so I can't answer it sorry.
5) Yes 180Watt.Last edited: Oct 27, 2017 -

And if you plan to install a 2.5 inch drive, before you reinstall, go to bios to change the AHCI settings to AHCI from RAID, and reformat the C drive (m2.NVME SSD). -
My everyday laptop is a 2017 MacBook Pro 13, so I can't bear the ****ty IPS on the 7577.
Bought an LTN156HL06-C01 off eBay to see how it'll go. Results will be updated by end of November.custom90gt likes this. -

Hi. I'm not a local but I'm planning to buy this model the next month I go to US. Does anyone know if it is now available in retail stores like BestBuy? If yes, which store is most recommended? Also, are the dell laptops in retail stores more or less the same price as the ones in dell online store? Thanks in advance!

This SSD 256gb toshiba had controller that working in RAID, I had needed to go in Bios and enable to AHCI (f2 key for enter in bios), then I used the microsoft tool to formact everything and install W10Last edited: Oct 28, 2017 -

Just a couple of other quick notes:
1) I switched the WD 1TB HDD for a 1TB Seagate Firecuda and no problems, the back screws down perfectly. Clearly the WD drive was just too thick for the hard disk bay.
2) I switched the provided IPS for the LGD046F that was previously on my 7559 and it works like a charm. Oddly it actually seems to be better on the 7577 than the 7559, but I'm sure that's purely subjective! Obviously the screen tear is still present given that there is no g-sync, but what can you do?
So far I've only played Doom on ultra settings and it runs flawlessly, but that will change when I get more time. I'm not a heavy gamer, but I will try others and post up my impressions. -
I play a lot of Doom 2016 multiplayer. Look me up on steam under smokeskull.

It's the same 256GB TOSHIBA SSD -

Hello everyone! I just received my Dell 7577 today, and I haven't done much on it except a clean windows installation, and a Firestrike benchmark. I am bit worried since my score was 8267, and normal GTX 1060's get to 10-11k. I got the base model with the i5 CPU. Let me know if you have similar results or is it because of some settings or drivers.

isnt the lower firestrike results expected due to the maxQ design?

Mine was around that level as well. I think my GS63VR was in the low 10k range. It's not unreasonable, you can overclock your 1060mq and get more. Also firestrike loves CPU power, I went up 1.5k points in my server when I went from a 6600k at 5ghz to a stock speed xeon e5-2683 v3 (lower ghz but lots more cores).

Overclocking can make up for a portion of that, but then again you can overclock the 1060... -
So am getting slow write speed
then i start digging into it and found this post on dell support forum http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20015317
So according to this picture the nvme ssd should be on Pcie Express x4 Bus
And what i found that on my laptop there is nothing under Pcie Express x4 Bus
edit: -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
changing from raid to ahci didn't do anything
but after doing factory rest on the first boot i did a quick test and the write speed increased surprisingly.
but on second boot write speed went back to 350MB/sLast edited: Nov 3, 2017fayth likes this. -

Hey guys,
wanted to check with you does your notebook suffer from the "Optimus stutter"? i.e. When opening an application (firefox or chrome) or clicking the battery icon, the mouse will freeze momentarily (like a 1 second freeze / stutter). Appreciate your experience on this as I have just received the AW13R3 and it have this issue (on top of dead pixel), and i might just refund it for this Inspiron 7577.
Also what do you guys think of the 4K display? Will it have a significant drain on the battery life for normal day to day use?
Thanks! -
Also after updating the drivers, Firestrike came in at 8307, actually a bit lower than before, so clearly the max-q and i5 are not showing up well in this benchmark.Last edited: Nov 2, 2017 -
After Installing The OS the speeds have become what they should be expected.
Also I performed various test , to see the speed behavior of disk as it gets filled . I kept on filling it and bench-marked it several times as space got filled.
The following are the results of speed (Take a look at % of disk filled and speed) . I also ran the benchmarks several times.

As of now also (I have installed all drivers and booted quite a number of times) the speeds are really goodvikram0136 likes this. -
I clean installed windows 10 using ISO on Microsoft website , Now i am unable to install Dell PowerManager app can someone help me with that ? The drivers from website got installed but it says a part of it needs to be installed from windows store , and on opening windows store it says "Dell power manager is currently not available". Also the DELL power plan are not available i am only getting balanced mode power plan
Also after installing NVIDIA drivers , i am getting 1 sec lag when right click or when click on battery etc , it seems like OPTIMUS issue and the dedicated GPU , keeps on getting turned on and off for a moment causing lags , any one has fix for that ?
EDIT- here is the store link of app , but when i open it in store it says Dell power manager is currently not available and there is no option to install
Has anyone successfully installed this dell power app after clean install ?

You can install a newer version from here
https://www.dell.com/support/home/in/en/indhs1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=3N7TV
but still the pre-installed version was 3.0
I have heard somewhere that it is due to windows fall update(version 1709) that the app has become unavailable on windows store -
Currently V1.1 is the only that working after clean install w10. I had already tried
However I will try with usb Dell OS recovery, because I got even problems with MaxxAudio and Tb3 drivers -
what do you mean by "V1.1 is the only that working after clean install " ? Is the v2 whose link i gave is not installing ? or doing nothing ?
You mean the recovery OS image that is provided to download from dell website? Does it includes dell pre-installed apps like Powermanager and maxxaudio ? -
Yes,,at me it work only v1.1 of Power Manager. For OS recovery I mean the own Dell's tool, and should have drivers & software stock of Dell, but I have still to try
Maxxaudio does not work after my clean installation, if I try to install software indicates "buy it a paid version" or register;(
where did you download the drivers?
EDIT
Finally I have fix maxxaudio, now working fine.. I have just install latest Realtek Audio ALC3246 Driver update (because before I had only run Driver Booster,it wrong)Last edited: Nov 7, 2017 -
Hey guys, Computer Science major and long time hardware enthusiast here expecting my new 7577 in tomorrow sometime. :] I ordered the i7 7700HQ w/4k UHD display on sale recently and I am expecting a Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD the day after tomorrow to swap in for the 1TB 5400rpm storage drive the 7577 ships with. I am glad I found this thread full of seemingly-knowledgeable folks who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty since I have been reading up on all sorts of stuff related to this laptop in particular as well as Windows 10 in general. I don't know everything, but I'm not afraid to dig in and mess around. I have been a die-hard Windows 7 fan for a long time now, but with this new hardware it seems like the right time to make the leap straight to Windows 10.
It is my understanding that the initial GPU driver issues have been resolved recently, so I am not too worried on that front. I figure, worst case scenario I might have to learn how to modify the driver files a tiny bit to force stuff to work or to get the full feature set. If anything, I may be able to unlock a bit more performance by making it think it is not the 'Max Q' variant perhaps? Not sure if that is strictly a driver controlled thing, that could be fooled by editing some files, or if it is more of a hard-coded thing at the firmware/BIOS/vBIOS level tbh. It does lead me to wonder just how open or locked down the BIOS on this machine actually are and if they are any good overall compared to my current HP laptop's hardware it won't let me do anything on. I suppose I can find out for myself soon enough and tinker when I find the time.
I got excited to see a couple of you mentioning undervolting using Intel's XTU which I had forgotten about on my 2012 HP ENVY dv4 laptop since it is locked down so tight and was never really able to be modded or adjusted much on any hardware front, so I look forward to getting to mess with that and see what it can pull off. The results posted previously in this thread seem promising- I will have to read this entire thread again to catch up though. Has anyone messed with manually controlling fan speeds with any third party utilities or is that a thing of the past these days? I imagine the "sophisticated" and essential cooling algorithms might lock users out of controlling things like that on modern hardware since their proper operation is pretty vital to the life of the machine.
Anyways, as many of you suggest and as I have always insisted on doing myself, my first order of business is to do a clean install of the Windows 10 OS to get rid of all the Dell and other unwanted BS. I noticed people saying they couldn't get the newest version of Dell Power Manager re-installed as well as the audio drivers, which are my two primary concerns at this point.
Is the Dell Power Manager really required or all that crucial? If it stays uninstalled do I lose any legitimate hardware functionality, or is it strictly a convenience of managing your power profiles kind of thing? With it left uninstalled are there any "unknown" or "disabled" hardware devices listed under Device Manager? Personally I use Process Lasso Pro (paid) and it does an amazing job at automating that sort of stuff and improving my laptop's performance across the board in a number of different ways. Normally though, I never bother reinstalling OEM-specific hardware unless it serves a critical role in hardware functionality and system performance and it kind of seems like Process Lasso might be a good replacement candidate for that troublesome Dell software so long as I wouldn't lose access to any hardware abilities, etc. If I have to manually set all my different power profiles then so be it. Pro Lasso switches power profiles dynamically and on the fly as it is.
I ask partly because of the big leap in hardware generations I am making as well as the fact I am moving to Windows 10 which I am far less familiar with and don't claim to know my way around the details of modding it for performance like I can manage in Windows 7.
As to the audio drivers, is there an easy way to rip the driver files or some form of the install file(s) of them from the factory-condition OS before making the clean install? I guess worst case scenario it is only a matter of time until they get fixed or become available elsewhere. Would generic audio drivers work in a pinch? Audio isn't exactly a major concern for me these days, so either way I am not too worried, but damn it I hate not having a flawless system, especially when it is brand new.
Also, are there still scaling issues when scaling a UHD display down to 1080p these days? I know as recently as 2015 it was a concern among many still, but like I said, I haven't bothered to keep up with this stuff until recently and I'm kind of wondering if I might have shot myself in the foot a little bit.
Anyways, I am off to do some more reading. I will be active here in the time to come. Thanks!poyz, Charles P. Jefferies and DJav-7 like this. -
I now see the i5 version of this lappy here in my location, the thing is that it has the 74 W battery a 1TB HDD, and a 1050 GPU
not sure what I will be missing if I pick up this version
Has anyone seen the internals of this with the 74W battery? Will I still be able to add an NVME drive? -
By the way, does any of you guys know how I can free the OEM recovery partition space by moving it elsewhere and reallocate that space to the C partition? My version has a 128gb ssd (sandisk x400)+1tb hdd, I was thinking of moving it in the hdd (is it a bad idea?)xxpmrong likes this. -
