Mine arrives tomorrow according to DHL. I'll be doing some software checks on arrival to try and find out if PCIe 3.0 x4 is supported through the M.2 port. If affirmative or inconclusive I'll probably buy a drive to check.

Got mine today! On first thoughts I was surprised by how nice it looked and how good it felt. Booted it up and the screen looked like crap. Kinda made me annoyed but soon enough found that you can just put the saturation to full on the intel hd graphics settings and from there on the screen looks pretty good. The build quality is decent enough but touchpad is a little off and feels slow. Need to update the driver for it as someone else stated. Other than that its great but an SSD will be so much better. Just like windows 8 the start menu search function takes awfully long to respond. It's a little on the slow side but an SSD should definitely fix it! Also, most of you will realise that having 2 graphics card(nvidia one and intel integrated one)will be quite a pain when it comes to running applications as many windows become blurred and some games run on the integrated gpu by default. Anyone know a fix to this?

Mine was just the basic FullHD version. One thing I realised that was on boot up I could see a sort of white glare coming from the bottom of the screen. I don't know whether I should be worried or not as I don't seem to see it anywhere else.

Once you've updated the NVIDIA drivers, go into the control centre, find the 3D tab, and manually set which programs use the iGPU/dGPU. It shouldn't be a pain, it should (once set up properly) automatically select the appropriate GPU for each program.

Blurred means the program isn't using your default screen resolution, and isn't caused by the choice of GPU per se.

this laptop is really interesting, can anyone comment if the 'marathon' battery life is anywhere near as good as the 10 hours the dell website is claiming? I asked the dell chat reps but i just cant seem to trust them lol. Much appreciated!

If you chat in you can get this version for 699.99 with coupon code PFRQRKC3RRF2SX (100 off 799.99 or more). It is a shop discover code but the chat rep did not require I use my discover card - I used my Sears citi mastercard with 10% back and an additional year warranty. The rep had to manually apply the 100 off. Also, had free 2 day shipping - shows ETA of 10/28. Might be a YMMV....

I've had my Samsung SM951 256GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe delivered today but I was disappointed to find out it doesn't work. It obviously fits with the socket being M type but it's not recognised in BIOS or Windows Installer. I updated my BIOS to the latest 1.04 version but it didn't help.
Really disappointed as I bought that SSD with a 20% off coupon on eBay, oh well, will have to wait for Black Friday to buy Samsung Evo 850 m.2 22x80 version.

For those wondering about the FHD matte 1080p display, here's the info

    BOE062F
    NV15N41
    Dell P/N YHDGT
    6-bit panel

I have no idea what it is. So far it seems...average at best. I'll post more information after I've calibrated it.

Edit: I hope to god this calibration was just a mistake, because holy hell this thing sucks (used a Sypder4Express)
    AdobeRGB: 53%
    NTSC: 51%
    sRGB: 70%

Is there anyone received the amazon version? What's the specs of the 256g ssd?

EDIT: from customer Q&A of amazon, someone said that it's Sandisk z400s m.2 2280 256 gb. How about this ssd?

So if it's an M.2 disk, that means the main Bay would be empty, right?

NVMe support in BIOS is a rare thing and I would be surprised. I wanted to test the AHCI version, but it seems from your tests that PCIe is not supported altogether. Could you tell us what version of Windows you were trying to install? Also, could you please run the Windows 10 that came in the main HDD with the NVMe SSD plugged in and see if it makes any attempt to recognize it at all (even if it's "new hardware found but no drivers")?

    Thank you!

Mine's out for delivery now :)

I honestly don't understand people's fascination with "how thin" a laptop is. It's a tool used to do work/tasks, and more often than not, thinness comes at the expense of something else. This laptop is no exception, as so far my tests show that its surface temps get hot and both the GPU & CPU get well into the mid 70C range under load. That's fine for the CPU, but way too hot for a GPU like the 960M. Not that it can't handle it, but it simply shouldn't get that hot.

Not to mention it appears the FHD display is garbage.

What exactly are you asking? The 2.5" bay has a SSHD in it if that's what you ordered, and the M.2 slot has a SSD in it if that's what you ordered. You can swap those out after.

Maybe on reflection the 4k display wasn't a bad choice after all! Thanks for confirming the colour space Ramzay on the 1080p option, seems really poor :(

At least we know where they've cut corners now to get the price down.

I'll do a second test tonight, maybe something was off on the first one, though I don't see how. I've used this same Spyder4 plenty of times before, with accurate results.

It may really just be a piss-poor FHD IPS screen. I don't even know which company makes it, since searches on the good old webs doesn't turn up anything on those IDs I listed.

FYI I had a go at manually adjust the colour space with the Intel graphic options, I managed to correct the white balance somewhat so it's more neutral, although nothing like my main monitor. Will post some screenshots of my tweaked values once I'm home.

Contemplate the laptop as a strong battery cores cutro to set out cheap house.
Not expecting the best for that price.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I ordered this laptop through Amazon, those come with a single 225GB SSD. I wanted to know what the drive configuration would be. Someone before me said that it is a Sandisk z400s m.2 drive. I thought this meant the main bay was empty which would be ideal, since I planned to get more storage anyway. However, doing some research, it seems the z400s is cased and if so, it would logically be in the main bay. So my question would be if anyone who ordered it through Amazon knows the hard drive configuration for the laptop and where the SSD is?

I would like to know what slot the SSD uses as well on the Amazon version.. mine is shipping either today or tomorrow.. once I get it I can let everyone know.. but hopefully someone beats me to it so I can know whether to return the m.2 SSD or not.

Mine got delivered today and I just opened and booted it for the first time.

First impression: THE ****ING TOUCHPAD IS LOOSE. ****, Dell. ****. How many different models are going to have this issue? Example:

Of course if I complain I will:
    1) Get the touchpad replaced, which won't fix the problem.
    2) Get a refund or a new laptop, with another month of waiting.

I guess I'll just fix it myself with some tape or something to offset the touchpad, but seriously...

Trackpad is not loose on the 7559 in my possession.

I have every intention of keeping this laptop.

The only "let down" is the keyboard key travel. But that's to be expected these days.

Ah, IC. Well, that doesn't really bother me personally since I use a USB mouse like 95% of the time. Pretty concerned about this apparently godawful screen though. Anybody have subjective reports on how it looks? Not expecting anything amazing but passable would be good. Last thing holding me up from taking the plunge and buying it :p

But how expensive are your laptops? My budget is basically ~800 and I'd like something with NVIDIA 960M to play games on decent settings. At this price point, I've literally only found two options, which are the i7559 and the new ASUS ROG ( http://store.asus.com/us/item/201510AM150007425). There's not even that many with 950M at 800 dollars. Hopefully some more reviews will trickle in for both of these to tip me one way or the other.

I have here a Eurocom Shark 4 (Clevo N105SD) that is using an LG IPS panel with 72% NTSC coverage and is very bright and crisp. That machine cost the same as the Dell, while sporting a DVD/RW drive (that can be swapped out for an extra 2.5" HDD bay) and a better CPU (i7-4720HQ).

It doesn't need to be an expensive laptop to have a good screen.

That sounded great until I realized it doesn't have an OS :( Windows 10 costs extra 150 bucks to install. I assume you can install it from scratch, but I'm no good with these things, better to have something that works out of box :p Oh, and the base configuration is already over 900 according to their website (1077 with Windows 10 and 1TB HDD).

Edit: Ah, the 10% off coupon. Brings total with OS and 1 TB to 970, still a bit too expensive for me. I mean, if my budget were 1k I would have a lot more options to choose from anyways, but it isn't.

Are you pricing this in USD or CAD? Their USD prices are out of whack. Price it in CAD then covert to USD at an FX rate of about 1.25 or so (so CAD price/1.25).

And don't pay for Windows 10. Buy Windows 8.1, you get a free upgrade to Windows 10. Or look for a cheap Windows copy on eBay.

If you're a student, you can get Windows for free.

XoticPC also sells this laptop, the upgrade/new version with Skylake.

That being said, the Inspiron isn't a bad device, just that screen is...meh.

Ah, I figured out how to download that free copy of Windows 10. How does one get it onto an OS-less system though? Just load it onto USB and stick it in?
