Just had my 7559 delivered today. The FHD screen is slightly disappointing. The colors are lacking a bit and there is some backlight bleed in the top left corner and the bottom edges :/ sucks. The laptop is pretty nice otherwise. Apologies for my crappy phone's camera. [IMG]

    Hello,

I found this thread very interesting and I am myself interested into getting Dell Inspiron 7559. I was thinking to buy the 16 gig of ram with the 128 SSD drive which come with the UHD screen. I haven't read anyone getting it so far.

Nevertheless, I am interested to those who have the UHD screen model, more specially about how the battery is. Is there anyone who got this laptop fully loaded and try to play around to see how the battery handling the run?

So this screen and the new Alienware 15"s both suck. Well done, Dell. Well done. :(

So if you "tap" without clicking on the bottom border of the touchpad it feels tight and in place? If this is the case then the "loose" problem may be a generalized issue.

It's definitely not the same thing. I can "hold" the touchpad down with one finger so that it's not loose and click both buttons at once.

The problem is clearly a gap between the touchpad base and the surface on which it "rests", as seen in some DIY fix videos on YouTube for XPS laptops.

The real problem, though, is that I opened my laptop up yesterday down to the core and access to the touchpad is blocked by a metal sheet that I fear is stuck in place or something (didn't want to force it). This is consistent with the service manual lacking a "replace the touchpad" section...

The screen on the AW15 is better than this one. Unless they changed it on the AW15 R2, but I've briefly owned the AW15, and the screen was better. The keyboard on the AW15 is much better too.

Hello, was wondering, since Dell laptops aren't fully customizable when you buy them online through Dell's website anymore, does anyone know if they are planning on putting any new pre-configured configurations of the inspiron 7559 out, or if Dell's retail partners sometimes offer different configurations then what Dell is offering through their own website.

I was really excited about this laptop when I first saw it announced. I was excited that it going to come in that awesome red color. I was also happy when I heard they were going to make it with an available UHD multitouch display. So then I think to myself, yes this'll be perfect, I can finally get the laptop I've always wanted- one that has a decent GPU, and a touchscreen, AND also comes in red.

Then, I see the SKUs for this model finally update on Dell's site, and lo and behold, what do they do? "Hibiscus Red" model can't be configured with the UHD touchscreen. All the UHD touch models can't be picked in "Hibiscus Red." Also the models where "Hibiscus Red" is offered as a color option, you can't select 16 GB of ram either. I have no idea why the body color of the laptop and it having a touchscreen are somehow considered to be mutually exclusive.

    Way to go Dell...

Anyway, was wondering then, does Dell ever give their retail partners exclusive configurations that are different from the ones that they sell directly? Want to know if there is actually any chance I might find what I'm looking for at Best Buy or Fry's or some other brick and mortar store that sells Dell systems.

Also interested in buying the 7559. It looks a lot better than a MSI Apache GE62 or a ROG GL22 - and performs better than the available Acer Nitro Black editions. And the batterylife sounds good on the 7559, everything above 3 hours is nice.

In Holland, we lack configurations... There are 3 15" models and 1 17" model available, with major waiting lists (35+ days).
These models have no options at all..no Win 10 pro, no choice in color (it's all black) and that kinda sucks.

    -15" / 6700HQ / 8GB / 1000GB HDD/SSD-hybrid / FHD screen €999 ($ 1106 including taxes)
    -15" / 6700HQ / 8GB / 1000GB HDD/SSD-hybrid / UHD screen €1149 ($ 1272 including taxes)
    -15" / 6700HQ / 16GB / 1000GB HDD + 128GB SSD / UHD screen €1299 ($ 1439 including taxes)

I'm planning on buying the first one - I really don't like the glossy UHD screen. And I'll add a m2 SSD right away.

btw: Does anyone else think that these configurations are a bit strange? Who - in their right state of mind - spends €1000+ on a laptop without SSD? And no factory options to add one...except one option that also includes more RAM, a UHD screen, a brand new BMW M5..and all other things to make it too expensive to choose...

Those Dutch prices are including taxes. So the cheapest model is €999 + ~€29 delivery costs. And to be fair, there isn't any other model in this price range with this CPU/GPU combo. You can't expect to ALSO have an SSD for this price too. Even without SSD this is already a really sharp price. Same CPU/GPU combinations with other brands cost €200 + more and those sometimes don't even have an SSD, sometimes not even an SSHD.

Edit: Correction, the Asus ROG GL552VW-CN108T is also €999, but that one only has a HDD, and the 2GB GTX 960M instead of the 4GB one.

I know. I'm hoping Dell will release the i5 line also in Holland, But that might take a while...

I'm a bit hassitant to order this laptop, because of the screen, and because I def not need an i7

No delivery costs if you order today ;)

And don't get me wrong - the €999 is perfect for the configuration! I don't expect an SSD to be included in that price - I expect a popular item like an 128GB SSD to be included for a price like €1099.

I build/fix laptops in my spare time, so adding the M2 SSD and cloning the drive is not that much of a problem..It's more the question why they make such poor choices for the configuration. 50% of the questions in this topic are about 'Can I add an SSD'...Dell should know better.

    True, that.

Current price point makes me wary though. For €999 they MUST have cut corners somewhere. On build quality, maybe?

Totally agree on this one. Like the design, like the GPU, but i7 6700 is overkill. On the other hand - an i5 6200u (like many other laptops) would be too low, so we need a midrange i5.

I haven't seen many laptops in this class with flawless reviews. Things like:
-you can easily bend the screen
-battery is dead after 2 hours
    -touchpad is rubbish
-it looks like aluminium but its plastic

    ..are in allmost every review.

And it looks like people prefer performance over durability for home laptops.

All laptops in this price range, with this form factor and specs, have flaws. They all sacrifice something. You just have to decide what you're willing to sacrifice.

I personally won't sacrifice screen quality, since that's how you interact with the laptop. The keyboard is meh at best, but it's not the worst out there. The 1x1 wifi card is a bit silly, since its a very minor cost savings.

For example, I prefer the Eurocom Shark 4 because:
    1) Much better screen
    2) Better wifi card
    3) DVD drive or extra storage bay
    4) Better keyboard (full-size num pad, deeper key travel, more useful Fn key combos)
    5) Allows for a certain amount of fan control

    But the Inspiron has:
    1) Better build quality/finish
    2) Slightly slimmer/more appealing/sexier design
    3) Better warranty/support

You just gotta pick your poison.

Update: I ordered my Dell 7559 laptop on 18th Oct.

Its still in Pre-production. The Dell Rep I spoke to last week said it was delayed but would be delivered by 4 Nov, the estimated date.

Having my doubts as to whether they will do it. Or if the issue with the delay of parts for the laptop build would be fixed.

Do people actually use the touchpad? I spend 10 to 15 hours a day behind some silly laptop, and can't work without a mouse.

But seriously...There is a touchpad on the laptop - so it should be a least functional.

True true. I like the Dell because of the sexy design combined with some nice specs.
Things like a touchpad or dvd drive are useless to me, so I'd like to pick those poisons ;)

btw..never heard of the company Eurocom.

Relative to the ones I mentioned.

It's a Clevo vendor, much like Sager.

I just posted my review, found here.

Would cancelling the order and opting for a Clevo/Sager be better? I can increase my budget a bit. Was thinking about the folks at Mythlogic. Any idea?

Question....for someone who doesn't really transfer large files, and who only uses wifi for internet, is a 1x1 card a big deal? would upgrading make a difference for 50mbps internet speed?

Well, the Clevo P650RE has a GTX 970M, LG IPS panel with optional G-SYNC, 4 RAM slots, 4 storage bays (2 2.5", 2 M.2) and starts at around $1200.

They often offer student discounts, NBR member discounts, price matching, etc. Students can get a free copy of Windows to boot.

The smaller SSD is a M.2 format (2280), it's very easy to install. A small, 256GB M.2 SSD can be had for about $100 or less. Use that for your OS/programs, and keep the SSHD for media storage.

Steps to install the M.2 SSD
    1) Remove the single screw and pop off the bottom panel
    2) Install the M.2 in the location you see in my pic (there's a screw there used to secure the drive)

After that it's all about installing Windows to the SSD.

So you're looking for the link to the P650RE at XoticPC, or Mythlogic?

    XoticPC
    Here's the " special" edition
    Regular edition
    Clevo N155RD

    Mythlogic
    Clevo N155RD
    Clevo P650RE

EDIT: Oh I see where you're confused - what I listed was its possible specs - the $1200 config doesn't actually come with 4 RAM sticks or 4 SSDs. It just has room for those.
