Can the wireless card be upgraded to a 2x2 card? Or do we also need to get an extra antenna ourselves?

Thank you for the review. I want to pick the 4K screen, do you think it's a good one (except for the white calibration)?

The laptop is worth it, but I'm disappointed by the backlit keyboard because I feel cheated. Moreover video noise. Anyone else have the laptop can press the right side of the notebook to see if you got it? It may be a bad screw tight? IfI open it, I lose warranty?

Dell lets you open the case and do any upgrades you want without losing your warranty.
From the video it might be a loose screw or some production defect.

Notice that 7559 now ships with Windows 10 Pro as standard.

Which is the version I advised forum members to order.

Can't tell you what to do other than to research why Pro is what you want - not home edition.

Since most of you are advising that an SSD is purchased and we are certain that SATAIII SSD works but unsure about PCI-e x3 please can someone try out the PCI-e SSD with the laptop. Also by using the M.2 port can it be used to store all the boot files from the main 1Tb HDD? Becuase the M.2 port would be no use otherwise, other than for some extra expandable storage. Sorry I'm a noob, can anyone help me out with this?

    Thanks

It's definitely 60Hz, funny you should mention it Elite Dangerous defaulted to 48Hz in the ingame options, so my FPS counter was maxing out at 48, but I switched it to 60 and it hit 60 without an trouble. Also checked monitor properties and that definitely stated 60Hz.

RE: Drive cloning - There's specialist software to do that. Although I've just installed Windows 10 from a pre-made bootable USB pen drive. Somehow it picked up on the licensing automatically and never requested a CD Key, checking machine properties says it's activated (and no, it's not a pirated copy, it's a legit installer). I think this is possible due to how Windows Activation has changed, registers machine specs are stored centrally so once you hook up to the internet it recognises it's a machine with a license for Windows and automatically activates without user input.

Can someone confirm they have used a sata m2 drive in the m2 slot. If that is the case ...the m2 will not suppot Pci-ex4 ssds. The protocols are different and can not be exchanged.
I find it hard to believe Dell has decided to go with a format which will max out at 550mb/s when new ssds can reach 2Gb/.s speed writes.

Sooo... I just saw a Costco ad saying that they will be selling this laptop the i7, 4K, touchscreen version with 16gb of ram for 250$ off. But they aren't saying what the actual price is going to be... I'm not sure if I should wait until the 29th for when it comes out on Costco.com or just let Amazon ship the one I ordered... What if it's a lot cheaper on Costco?!

The description does say "optional backlit keyboard", so it seems the backlit keyboard is not offered as a default everywhere.

That's the first I'd heard about any kind of "video noise", so I'm assuming its a production defect on just a single unit - it happens.

The crucial ssd drive I bought came with an activation code for cloning software. I just downloaded the software, bought a $12 usb-to-SATA cable on Amazon, plugged it in and cloned it. Then you just remove your old HDD and replace it with the new drive. I didn't have to mess with anything in the bios or anything, I just turned it on and it worked perfectly.

4k touch panel - With regards to brightness at max it's acceptable, but no go for outdoor use. It's slightly dimmer than my old Sony Vaio Flip 15, and colouring (new photo added to my dropbox link showing them side by side).

Both were set to 100% brightness with no power saving measures turned on (max brightness for both monitors)

    See here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b2b8vrnsbxsk2i8/IMG_20151024_203312.jpg?dl=0

Also with regards to the keyboard backlight. Press F2 on start up to Enter BIOS and see what is listed at the bottom. Mine is backlit and is stated as "backlite". If you have the same, to turn on back light hit the F10 key ...cycles between off / on (high) / on (low)

Question about the drivers. I've installed everything I thought relevant from the Dell website, along with the trackpad drivers that palackan posted here (yes they work, and I can confirm pinch to zoom doesn't respond in Chrome):

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/dell-inspiron-7559.782286/page-13#post-10115424

...as far as I can tell everything is working fine.

Because a lot of people (I'd say the majority) don't do anything that requires those kinds of speeds. Not to mention PCIe SSDs are rare, and expensive. And a lot of people already have their own SSDs ready to pop in a new machine once they get it.

In short, there are PLENTY of reasons to not go with a PCIe interface. Rare are those who would actually benefit from it.

Could you post a picture with the scaling all the way down? There it looks like 1920x1080. I'm curious what it looks like unscaled. Also could you check the frame rate at 3840x2160? Is it 60 Hz?

How does it run as far as games go? Can it handle games at 4k reasonably well? Obviously not Crysis 3, but Blizzard stuff (Diablo 3, Wow, StarCraft) and MOBAs?

Do you think the 4k is worth it, even with the defects? Or would you go with a really good 1080p if you could redo it?

How hot does it run? Too hot to sit on your lap and play games?

How is the build quality? Does it feel sturdy and solid?

Appreciate all the help so far guys!

Even the GTX980M has difficulty running modern games at 4k.

Sometimes, when playing Diablo 3 and in a party with a big fight going on, I'd get some low FPS (somewhere in the 30s). This was at 1080p. Imagine trying to do this at 4k. (On a different machine, but still running the GTX 960M).

Is that with settings maxed out? Was your 960m 4gb?

Asking because I'm thinking of ordering the 4k model, but would want to play those kinds of games with higher than 1080p resolution.

I've heard with 4k you can turn off AA and tone down some settings without a noticeable difference to help as well.

Re: Gaming. There's very little need to game at 4k on a 15" screen, the visual fidelity (while incredible) in practical terms isn't worth the drop in frame rates when viewed on a screen this size. 1080p on the screen is like viewing 4k on a 30" screen...that is to say the fidelity is very high at 1080p anyway.

From my limited experience I very much doubt this is going to be able to game at 4k in anything semi-modern. I think Team Fortress 2 / Portal, things like that would be possible but really this laptop is suited for gaming at 1080p, maybe 1440p (half way between 1080p and 4k for those less technical among us) would be possible in a good selection of games if you don't mind framerates in the 30-60 range. To get an idea of what the GTX960M is capable of you should check this out (scroll down to game benchmarks around half way down): http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-960M.138006.0.html

    As a general rule:

It will perform ~60 fps+ / high settings in all games at 720p
    It will perform 40-70 fps / medium/high settings @ 1080p
It will perform 30-60 fps / medium settings @ 1440p for all but the most demanding titles
It will not be playable in most modern games @ 2160p (4k), except for well optimised / less demanding / old titles

Assuming the 1080p panel is of good quality, I'd have probably opted for that in retrospect. While the smooth text is great when you first open up the display it's forgotten about within 24 hours, but I suspect it has an impact on battery life, is glossy, and makes website performance worse (for exmaple in 4k scrolling in google chrome is VERY chopping, switching to 1080p fixes this). Visually there's very little difference in fidelity when viewing the screen at nominal distance. I've made a video showing this:

Can I also add video playback of embedded website video using chrome when set at 4k is also unplayable when maximised. This isn't a GPU issue, as I force use of the GTX 960M for all applications and the problem persisted whether using the integrated Intel HD530 or the dedicated GTX 960M

In retrospect I would have probably opted for the 1080p matte panel and saved some money

The PCIe is a new interface for ssds and replaces the sata3 std. When read speeds of 2-3gb/s can be obtained with some ssds why would you still want a 0.5gb/s drive.
Anyway pci-e drives are not rare in fact they are getting more popular as support in desktops started 12 months ago and even laptops have the m2 std with support for pci-e.
You can buy sm951 quite easily over here in uk and the price is not a big diff over sata3.
I think dell made a mistake over m2 std and with the chipset it could have easily supported pci-e std.

Somehow this notebook reminds me a lot of the Samsung R522. Keyboard borders, touchpad LED surrounding, the hinges, and even display bezel look similar. Sure, there is a slight optical difference, but it seems to stem from the same manufacturer.

Only downside on the Samsung was maintenance and bad access to the inside (and screws breaking off on opening up)... but when I read the service manual from the Dell 7559, it's obviously likewise complicated. If you need to exchange thermal paste (and this time will come) aww god, you must take apart the whole thing. Damnit... can't they create better insides like Clevo??? Well at least there's a How-To... but still...

    For the reasons I mentioned.

Yes, they are still rare. It is MUCH easier to find a SATAIII M.2 SSD than it is to find a PCIe one. How many different makes/models of PCIe drives are currently being made?

Congratulations, you live in the one place on earth where a PCIe drive isn't a lot more expensive than a SATAIII one. In the US, the SM951 is often twice the cost of other M.2 SATA III SSDs.

Plenty of other manufacturers (not only Dell) stuck with the SATA III M.2 port. You usually find a PCIe port on laptops with two M.2 connections (they support both). And given the increased cost of PCIe drives, it's really not surprising (and shouldn't come as a surprise) that they aren't usually found on cheaper notebook models.

The XPS 15 uses the PCIe interface, so if you really must have that, go have a look at that laptop.

Not to mention that if you're the type of power user who really needs the extra speed of a PCIe drive, you probably also need top-notch performance from your other components, and therefore probably know better than to buy a consumer-grade Dell laptop.

My 7559 has experienced 'Intel HD graphics driver for Win 8 not responding' for a few times, it recovered automatically, but that is very disconcerting. Is it just me or you also experienced this as well?
