The biggest benefit/draw of TB3 for me is the eGPU possibilities, but they aren't really mainstream yet.

Oh, that one probably does come with the stated SSD/HDD combo. I meant that it is usually more economical to buy notebooks as bare-bones as possible, and then install your own drives after.

Sager tends to be the best value, since for the same price as competing notebooks, you can usually get a full GPU upgrade (i.e get a GTX 970M when a Dell/ASUS/MSI will give you a 960M for the same price). That being said, you can often negotiate with Dell/Alienware, and there are often deals on MSI/ASUS laptops.

Do you guys think this laptop will be good enough for graphic designing + a little video editing. Will the screen be good enough?
When i'm at home, i will use an other monitor but when i'm in school the screen must be good enough, what do you guys think? what's your thought?

I think the real question is one and only one. For who want an XPS15 and can't buy it for it price, is this a real alternative ?(speaking about performance)

Why would you care? There's no difference currently, aside from the much higher price of DDR4.

The only use of DDR4 is higher memory clock speeds for the integrated graphics, which is useful for smaller laptops without a dedicated GPU.

totally .. i dont think xps can beat this performance .. because the thermal profile of this laptop mandates less throttling .. xps now is for the eye candy and the metal chassis and that awesome screen .. i used to but only xps (1530,l501) .. but this inspiroon was tgtbt :) ..

I just received this laptop today and am going to boot it up tonight so I will look into it and let you know. I bought a 500GB Samsung SATA ssd for the M.2 slot so I hope that works.

Maybe a dumb question but is the m.2 slot interchangeable for PCIe or SATA? Outside of seeing if my Samsung SATA card works, how else would I determine whether it is SATA or PCIe?

Teorically the skylake platform supports PCIe.. but it supports ddr4 too and this laptop doesn't support it. So we need to ask to dell or for who has a pcie ssd, test it on the laptop

Can I buy any other 8GB DDR3L RAM and upgrade the memory of this laptop?
If not can someone point me to some compatible memory?
I need 16GB overall, I ordered the Dell Model with 8GB yesterday.
    USA
Also I am thinking of buying a 256 GB m.2 SSD for it, can someone point to a compatible one in Samsung?

    Hi Sandyman012

Thanks for the response, regarding the second part of your question as I understand it the M.2 socket will support either SATA or PCIe but not both. Wish you luck in fitting your new SSD, please let us know how it goes.

Sorry for my questions.. no one has considered to buy the Acer VN7-592g? They are similar but :
1 The acer display seems to be very nice
2 It is thinner and its weight is 2.3kg
3 It supports ddr4 and pcie ssd

So why to buy this and not the acer?

    Very quiet .

Best I can tell is the fan on the left runs continually at a low setting that you can barely hear. The right side fan afaict hasn't come on yet. When the left side fan does increase in speed, its for a short second or two ramp up. Then back to low. But its only sped up two or three times all afternoon. I think you'll be pleased.

I love the features of this notebook , it fits perfectly into what I'm looking though a bit heavy.

But honestly ... Is not it a bit ugly or not serious with that red that it has? Are you thinking not just for gamers and office or work? I have not seen in person and I would like to know your opinion.

    Thank you.

    Ordered 16/10/2015 early evening.
    Dispatched 20/10/2015 7:15pm from China.
Probably won't see it until next week but I'm OK with that.

Went for the base model, work laptop is a 4k 5778 and I feel it scales a bit too small on a 15.6" screen and touch rarely gets used. Have ordered an extra 8GB ram stick, and still unsure what SSD to get..

Would be interested to know what M.2 solid state drives people have had success with; please post!

The red grille across the speakers is much more subtle than the pictures we saw. It more maroon in color and not offensive at all. This from someone that hates the color red. However, the perimter red lines around the track pad are indeed red. Not gonna let that be an issue, its easy to overlook.

For me at least, going for the base model and upgrading with an SSD and more memory if required seems to be the sensible option. Full HD on a 15.6" screen is as much as a want. Also guarantees an improved battery life if on the move compared to the 4K version.

Regarding the SSD, from photos posted earlier on this thread it is definately an M=key connection which implies PCIe support. Or am I talking rubbish?

Would love for someone with the sytem in their hands to confirm the type of SSD that this system uses.

I recommend you add extra RAM and the SSD yourself, it'll probably be cheaper.

M.2 SSDs can be either SATA III or PCIe, and I'm guessing this model is a SATA III, though we won't know for sure until somebody checks their machine.

Not exactly sure, mostly because the name says it is 60 mm, but then in the description it says it's 80 mm. The length you need is 80 mm, so assuming that the title is wrong and this is actually 80 mm then it should work.

Hi, everyone, I just received the dell 7559. One strange thing is that the fan behavior is very strange. Even when I was just surfing the internet, the fans would speed up suddenly and become very noisy like I was playing games. It continued for about 10-20 seconds and suddenly became silent. It happens from time to time, maybe about once an hour or more frequently. Could anyone tell me what's the problem? Is it possible that it's some kind of hardware defect? Should I ask dell to resend me a replacement?

    Thank you!

So looks like its a SATA III M.2 slot, no PCIe.

Could be normal fan behaviour to prevent dust build up - the sudden burst of speed is to eject dust particles.

    Maybe.

Did your 7559 have the same situation? I used software to measure the temperature of cpu and video card, I found that the temperature of cpu changed dramatically within a very short time like 2 seconds. And it is the same time when fan behavior becomes strange.

As I said earlier in the thread, the connector exposes the pins needed for a PCIe connection (it's M-keyed). The CPU also supports it. It's a matter of checking if the motherboard supports it (i.e. joins the M.2 PCIe pins with the CPU PCIe controller).

I also pointed to some resources that people with the laptop could use to find this out. I doubt people will want to boot up a Linux live distro, so there must be some other way to tell on Windows 10...

    Edit: There's AIDA64 but that's proprietary software...
Edit2: Maybe one of these tools could work: http://alternativeto.net/software/aida64/?license=free
