I should mention that the black friday deal on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Is, according to dell going to be released on the 28th and available to order direct.
Also, according to my research. The SSD drive in that model is a full size 256 GB 2.5" Sata 3.(not 100% sure on this though)
So if you are wanting a laptop with an SSD drive from the factory, might want to wait for that model.
Why Dell doesn't allow customizing the 7559 direct from their site IDK. Because I would have opted for SSD drive and 16mb of ram.
Very frustrating that you have to buy the laptop and then install the SSD and ram yourself.
Shouldn't have to to do that on your own with a brand new machine- IMO.
One other tip, if your ordering direct from Dell spend the extra $50.00 and get Win 10 Pro. This way you can control what MS updates are installed on your system instead of them all being automatic.Last edited: Oct 17, 2015 -
At propietarios.Es this what we all expected? A generation i7, 6/7 hours of battery life, good screen, good keyboard and the ability to upgrade Ram and SSD.
And all that for € 999.
Assuming minor problems.Last edited: Oct 17, 2015 -
This looks to be pretty awesome! Can anyone comment on the keyboard travel and feel? It almost looks like they ended up using a latitude keyboard. They did use the power button from the newer latitudes, so maybe the awesome keyboard went with it.
Also from the looks it seems like dell was gunning for the lenovo Y50 crowd. The black with red accents has been their signature color pattern for a while now. I'd prefer more of a stealth look with no red, but eh, I am primarily a business user anyway who does not want to stand out from the crowd. -

ok seems like the touch pad is over loaded .. it supports up till 5 finger tap and a lot of other gestures which is causing the lag .. i disabled all of it .. now its usable but still not perfect
-
Also, although I understand the m.2 drive and memory you purchased can be removed and used in another computer. I personally would prefer being able to order the laptop with the SSD and extra Ram already installed. That way I have no money tied up in parts, or time spent configuring the SSD should I decide to return it. -
For those who have this laptop in hand, try running an undervolt using Intel XTU, to lower temps. It should also reduce fan noise. -

1) How good are speakers/subwoofer?
2) Does it throttle with Prime95 and Furmark?
3) Which parts are hot while gaming? I've noticed that it has a radiator on the left side so potentially the whole left side can be really hot.
4) It has a backlit keyboard, right? Is it red or white?
5) How quiet is it? (Just an example. Currently I own Acer Nitro and it's virtually silent. Fans are off while browsing the Internet or while watching Youtube. Also it's very quiet in games.)Last edited: Oct 17, 2015 -

Those that do indeed need the i7 are fully aware of that. -

Are you guys ordering with the in-home support, or just sticking with the mail-in warranty?
-
though i am not sure how or what to do with that -
Just ordered this one from Dell, with the 1TB/8GB Flash HDD. Anyone know how difficult it'd be to add/install an additional SSD using the other available connection?
-
-
So I ordered and the estimated ship date was/is November 2nd. Now the Dell website shows the same model with a ship date of October 21st.
I'm wondering if there's any advantage to canceling my order and submitting a new one. -
Though i am not sure how dell process their order -
Man, this is a tempting laptop. I need to buy a gaming laptop to play Fallout 4, Overwatch, and eventually No Man's Sky. Desktop is out of the question; need on-the-go gaming portability. I'm torn between this laptop and the Sager NP8677-S.
The Sager is almost twice the price of this Dell Inspiron, but it's more future-proof when it comes to gaming. The Sager has the NVIDIA GTX 970M cards as opposed to the 960M ones that this Dell has. The biggest difference is G-Sync, which makes for smoother gaming performance. The other kicker is that the Sager has options for a SSD, whereas the SSD version of this Dell is either ludicrously expensive or doesn't ship until Black Friday.
So it's a decision between whether I'm willing to pay twice the money for marginally better gaming performance but ensuring more future-proofing so that I don't need to replace my gaming laptop in two years. Arrgh. Tough choices. -
-
The Sager (which is a Clevo P670RE) is a 17", this is 15".
And you're somewhat incorrect about SSD options - you don't ever buy SSDs directly installed from the OEM, that's just way too expensive. You install it yourself once you receive the laptop. The Sager has 2x2.5" SATAIII connections and 2xM.2 connections, so you can fit a total of 4 SSDs in there. The Inspiron can fit 1x2.5" and 1xM.2, just buy the SSD yourself and put it in after.
With current games, a GTX 960M will be adequate, but a year or two in the future, the GTX 970M + G-SYNC combo will be MUCH better. The Sager won't provide "marginally" better performance - it will be substantial in any demanding game, though games like Diablo 3 won't see any difference.
Ironically I'm in somewhat the same boat as you, even though comparing these two machines makes no sense at all. For me, the extra cost is only about $500 CAD (I already have my own SSDs and RAM). However, the current crop of mid-range gaming notebooks (like the Sager mentioned here) doesn't have the USB 3.1-c/Thunderbolt 3 connection, which appears to be a glaring oversight. I'm thinking of just using this Inspiron for a year or so, until more Skylake/Thunderbolt 3 laptops hit the market, then buying a new one at that point. All models so far from most brands seems to only have the TB3 ports on their more expensive offerings, which I'm not interested in.
Essentially, the Inspiron is a basic gaming laptop, while the Sager is a solid mid, even upper-mid range gaming notebook. I'd say the Sager will get you at least 2 extra years of gaming out of your machine vs the Inspiron, assuming you get the G-SYNC version.Backfall likes this. -

Regarding the PCIe vs SATA III M.2 discussion, I think it's worth noting that in one of the pictures uploaded previously in the thread we can see an M-key M.2 socket. This exposes the necessary pins for a PCIe x4 connection, and the CPU itself supports PCIe 3.0.
Another thing is how the 16 total PCIe lanes offered by the CPU are configured. If the GPU uses only 8 and the Wi-Fi card uses 1 or 2, then 4 should be available for the SSD.
Could anyone that already has the laptop check?
Here's the picture I was talking about: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6nb2g9zejsjqdfj/AAByKyMXlZcQz-oCo1LrNjbva?dl=0&preview=Internals2.jpg
Edit: If anyone that has the laptop could be so kind as to verify the PCIe configuration used through this script ( http://linux.dell.com/cgi-bin/cgit.cgi/sys-admin-tools.git/plain/list-pcie-ports.sh), that would be awesome. The script comes from http://en.community.dell.com/techce...sting-devices-by-pci-add-in-slots-under-linuxLast edited: Oct 19, 2015 -
I would also like to know the answer to this question.
I'm looking at getting the 'Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe Solid State Drive' but unsure if its compatible and if it will perform at its best?! -
These reviews (of similar Dell models) are not very positive about the screens brightness and/or contrast. Sure it is a IPS screen but that doesn't mean it is a good screen, right?

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-7548-Notebook-Review.139966.0.html
I'm very curious about the brightness and contrast of the 1080 screen. Anyone experiences? -
The most commonly-used 15" IPS panels these days are from LG and AUO, so there's a high likelihood those are the panels we'll be seeing in these models. Not a given mind you, just a good chance.
Those two reviews showed a 4k panel and a 1080p, and they did indeed seem to suck. Especially the FHD, with very bad brightness. If those are the panel we're getting with this laptop, I will instantly return it. Unfortunately, those reviewers didn't even bother to mention what the panel model was, so we can't know for sure.
If somebody who has gotten their 1080p model can check which display panel they have, it'd be appreciated. Just download HWINFO64, it'll tell you. -
@palackan Could you check which screen it is? -
If you can tolerate a glossy screen. Hp, after customization has a "equivalent" spec'd laptop at same price w/ coupon.

Hi,
Don't know if this will help you guys...
But i found this
As far as i can see, there's is a non reflecting screen here..juancdc likes this. -
Non touch models are anti glare. As it should be -
-
So, no one can tell us how it is the 1080 display? Camon!
-
The 1080 display is of reasonable quality .. brightness is a bit on the low side ..and so is the viewing angle .. ( i am comparing to xps l501x i have) .. anti glare is quite good .. like there is hardly any reflection

I like your strategy of getting this Dell for now and buying a "real" gaming notebook a couple years down the road. But at the same time, I also want to be able to run the amazing games coming out in the next few months well. How big of a deal is the lack of a USB 3.1-c/Thunderbolt 3 port if I don't plan on plugging into a monitor or a TV that much? I'm assuming not that much.
And you mentioned that the Sager doesn't ship with SSD. But then in their tech specs under Hard Drive, it states "250GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD". Is that just saying that it just has the slot for an SSD and not the SSD itself?
P.S. if you're aware of good alternatives to that Sager in the upper-mid range gaming notebook class, do let me know. I've been researching heavily and that thing is the best I could find to fit my needs.
