Why would you go back? Just swap out the HDD on the newer machine and replace it with a SSD.
It's not like the HDD is soldered to the machine or anything.
I highly doubt they'd put a PCIE slot on a machine in this price range/form factor. My money is on it being SATAIII.
If anybody's ordered the machine with the SSD, then we can find out if they look at their parts description and tell us what SSD they got.

I'd probably just get an M.2 and install windows to that instead and use the SSHD as data storage mainly.
Whats the situation with W10, will the Dell likely have a restore partition and would you be able to restore it to a M.2?
Although i see W10 is available to just d/l anyway and use the key from the Dell :- http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 -

Or just create a generic Windows 10 installation drive (using the media creation toolkit that's readily available on the web), then download and install the drivers from Dell's support website.DuX likes this. -
I went ahead and ordered a 250gb M.2 Sata III drive for $89 from Newegg and another 8gb ram. Thanks for the input! My laptop will be delivered Monday!

There is a possibility to replace them?
I didn't see in the service manual how can i change the m2 only the HDD -

From what I've read it takes a 2280. I got a Crucial from NewEgg for $89 on sale

I am envious of you guys getting it Monday. Mine still doesn't show as shipped and I ordered on 10/7. Still says it should be hear on Tuesday, so as long as it ships today or tomorrow I should be good.

Hi guys! I ordered the laptop on the 8th and just got it but I've been pretty antsy about it getting here, and I found your forum when I was searching for any reviews or updates for the laptop. I have dropbox link with some pictures, but I haven't had a chance to test it out or check the M.2 slot for anyone just yet. If you have questions, I will do my best to answer them. From reading your posts' it seems that most of you are above my skill level when it comes to computers and their components.

What specs did you order it with? A lot of people just want confirmation of what type of M.2 SSD it takes.
And can you confirm it does indeed have the back lit keyboard? The official specs lists it as an option, but so far it seems it is actually the standard keyboard. -

Easy enough... give me a couple minutes. The keyboard is backlit and I did not have to choose it as an option so it seems it is standard.
Specs:
- 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)]
- Windows 10 Home 64-bit English
- 8GB Single Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBx1)
- 15.6-inch UHD (3840 x 2160) Truelife LED- Backlit Touch Display
- 1TB 5.4k Hybrid HDD + 8G Cache [1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive + 8GB Embedded Flash Cache]

That's a 2280 slot for sure. Looks like it even came with a screw, nice touch.
How good is the screen? Is the case soft touch/rubberised? Are the build-in speakers any good? -
First post, I too found this forum while searching for reviews.
My 7559 shipped today, ordered it on Saturday the 10th.
i7 with Windows 10 Pro non-touch
I have some concerns about this machine. But will refrain from commenting as not to put any thoughts in your minds.
I'll be reading and making my comments when I receive the machine next weekLast edited: Oct 16, 2015 -
Got mine too
The only thing is i cant see to be able to enable wifi .. should be a driver thing .. i am downloading the updates
Else laptop feels very good , very sturdy .. back of monitor and keyboard area is aluminium but it feels soft and nice .. key board is pleasant to type too .. track-pad is a bit shifted to left but i got used to it in a min
Sound is good and loud .. a bit low on bass compared to my old xps 1501x
screen is pleasing but viewing angle and brightness is on the low side ..
the only game i play is league .. i tried one game and keyboard was cool as when i was browsing .. -
wifi was just a driver issue
.. couple more things
the 1080 screen has a brownish tinge to it . like white is not pure white . may be i will get used to it . but no reflections at all ( i hated my xps for it)
i ran a 10 min stress test at 90% cpu (no graphics) .. i dindt feel any increased temp .. but fan is quite noisy .. even while browsing i can hear mild humm
the arrow keys are a bit small .. so if u are into racing games and use those keys it may be a bit oddomax likes this. -

The driver that was shipped wasn't compatible i guess . Windows auto updated to a new version and after a reboot it was working . I had to connect to internet via cable though .

Sorry I've been loading my software from my other computer. The outside is not metal at all... it has the rubberized exterior on top and where the palm rest is. The bottom is definitely plastic though. I have the UHD touch display, and I dont have a brown tinge to my screen like the other guy stated. When I hover over the power icon it does not give me a time estimate, however if I go to the 'mobility center' with low brightness I got it all the way up to 6.5 or 7 hours. The battery hasnt gone through enough cycles though in order to properly gauge that so I would consider that as well. I have no idea on how to check the HDMI version, but if you tell me Id be glad to check for you.

do u have any problem with touch pad .. mine is not very responsive .. part with scroll ..
i am now at 5.30 hours on battery have like 20% left -
solved color problem..there is an option to calibrate color.. after that display has no brown
tinge -
Anyone please share your experience on battery runtime of this laptop yeah...

Hi all, i really like this laptop. I have few question :
- How is the FHD display ?
- In the lower SKU is possibile to install m.2 ssd?
- The gap between the lowest and the highest SKU in italy is 300€ for
- 4k touch display
- 16gb of ram
- 128gb SSD + 1tb 5400rpm hdd
do you think it's a good idea?
Last quest is a bit stupid.. what is about the central led ad the front of the laptop? -
the HDMI is definitely 1.4a, read it somewhere for sure. So no 4k / 60fps output. Only 30fps when running at 4k

Can anyone got this laptop make a full review please.....

Ok, so the topic of fan noise has come up which was one of my concerns about this machine.
All laptops will have some degree of fan noise .
With dual fans I was hoping this laptop was configured to run 1 fan while under light load and 2 only when needed.
So the question is at idle or under light load does the fan (s) run ?
How much noise is heard when just browsing. Is it the normal amount one hears from a laptop or obtrusively loud.
If the concensus is the fans are loud, then I won't even unbox this.
It goes directly back to Dell. -
4 things to consider about this laptop so far to me now:
- Noise fan
- Temperature under maximum load
- Display quality
- Wifi
Could anyone got this laptop tell me those above concerns please.... -
About the front LED, it should be a battery status indicator (white while charging, red while running low on battery). -
The question is : FHD and 4K mount same battery. The 4k (and touch) panel is more power expansive. So, a 250GB m.2ssd (samsung 850 evo) costs on amazon 115€ . The configuration may be i76770hq/8gb/256ssd+1tbHDD/FHD display.
So better battery life , more gb on ssd (and maybe better quality) at 1115€ .
I think it's not bad (i'm not a gamer i'm searching a powerfull 15,6" lap at the right price with dedicated graphics) but i don't know how is the FHD display in terms of quality. -
Yes, both 4K and 1080p panels come with the same 74W/hr battery, unlike the new XPS 15. The 1080p panel is still IPS, so it should be pretty decent. We have to wait for reviews to see how it performs. Don't forget the 16GB of RAM, you'll have a buy another 8GB stick for that. If you don't need/want the 4K/touch options, then you should go with the 1080p version and do the upgrades yourself, which is pretty easy, plus you get to save about 100-150 euros.
-
ok after one night of use
I got 5-6 hr from the battery life watching youtube all the time . but the deal breaker is that touch pad is very bad. 2 finger scroll is so choppy that i cant use it . it may be a driver issue but i cant find a new driver in dell web site
