Download, install and run HWINFO64. It should tell you the panel model. Or AIDA64 could work too.

The best that you can afford. You can get a pretty cheap Intel 7265 2x2 card online.

That LG looks to be a revision of the LP156WF series, such as this

    http://www.panelook.com/LP156WF6-SPB1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_24180.html

I used one, and they're nice. Assuming the one on the Y700 is similar to the one I had (which I think it should be), it is MUCH better than the BOE FHD on the Inspiron. You're comparing a 45% NTSC/200 nits panel to a 72% NTSC/300 nits panel.

    Greetings from Malaysia.

I have been following this thread for past few weeks and found lot of useful information. So i ordered the i5 model here and expecting it end of Nov. Got a good deal for ~750usd.

I will add on sata ssd and ram when i get it.

As the only downside is the 1080p display panel according to the review, so i plan to replace it but i want to see first if my unit (south east asian) comes with a different panel or not.

It would be really helpful if any of you are going to replace the lcd in near future could post the pictures of the procedure and end result. As i am a newbie, it will give me confidence to mod my unit.

    Thank you very much.

Guys, (very bad word) Amazon can't ship their version of the Inspiron to Canada. Should I wait when they start selling them in Canada or just buy a basic model from Dell and add SSD myself?

The stock screen is by no means bad fyi and i think the average person will never consider replacing it.

Some of us pickier guys who also like to tinker will do it regardless.

There have been some BAD screens in the past i have experienced and this is not even in that realm.

Weakest point for me on this screen is brightness which again most people will be fine.

You can take a budget notebook throw some stuff at it then its no longer so much of a budget :D.

Hi JTOverath, I am just wondering what type of panel this LGD04D9 is. Is it an RGBW panel or RGB panel? I would appreciate if you don't mind checking it.

That is where I got the info you see. It shows Unknown Model then has the LGD04D9. Shows the name as 156UD2 if that helps.

HWINFO shows the Display Type as RGB Color. Color Bit Depth is 8 bits if that helps.

Thanks for replying soooo fast! The reason I asked that question is that I am on a i7548 4k model. I checked the my panel with HWinfo. The software told me the Samsung panel should be a 6-bit RGB one but in reality it is a RGBW pentile panel. I guess I'd better just find a sample at a physical store to see if the panel is a real RGB one.

Hmm interesting. 750usd without OS is actually cheaper than tech hyper mart. Does it come with 4 or 8gb of RAM? And the hard disk, is it the one with 8gb cache or just 1TB disk?

Generally that will require a new lid because the full glass screens have different inserts .

So yes you can but you would need the UHD screen plus the lid and possibly but probably not new hinges as well.

Not to mention the cable for the UHD models sometimes have more pins so you may need a different cable as well.

If you ever think you will want to update just get the UHD from the get go.

Speakers and keyboard are fine given the price point. If you compared it to something better (say the AW18 I was using this morning) they both suck.

All a matter of perspective. That review is pretty decent, and touches on what you give up to get those specs at this price point.

The Intel 7260 AC card works just fine also.. I had one laying around and got around to trying it.

It is better then the stock card.

Totally not a necessity upgrade unless its a couple dollars.

    hmm the price is lower
according to lowyat forum, DOS version RRP is RM 3399 and RM 3699 (dell website) for windows 10
*both are coming in 4GB RAM

so for the RM 3259 that you buy is the price after add another 4GB RAM ?

Just to mention if you're likely to be gaming then it's better upgrading the wifi card because so far my ping has been relatively high and I have experienced quite a bit of lag. So currently here are my options on the upgrades- Some of these have been recommended by people like Ramzay as well as a few others:
    Intel 7265
    Intel 8260
    Killer 1535
So as the prices go this is in ascending order from what I've seen. Can someone recommend which one here is the best to buy in terms of performance and not price(since they're relatively cheap) and whether or not these are all compatible. Thanks!

The Killer cards are typically the best for wireless speeds, but have issues with Bluetooth.

Quick question about the wireless again. Reading online, it seems that the 1x1 card still supports speed up to 75 mbps. Testing my wireless connection with my current laptop on speedtest (a Toshiba S55), it tells me I'm only getting 14.2 mbps down and 17.6 up. Seeing how this is well, well below 75 mbps, does this suggest that I would see essentially no difference between a 1x1 and a 2x2 card?

You are correct. Either your router or ISP is limiting your speed to less than what your current wifi card can handle.

You'd still see a benefit in transfer speeds between machines on your wifi network, but the increased speed from a 2x2 card apparently won't do anything to increase your Internet download speed.

Unless the problem is your current laptop.

What wifi card is it using?

No, it doesn't. I think in order to support windows hello, you must have sensors other than just a single webcam. For example, a 3d camera or an IR sensor.

That's kind of what I'm saying.... if my internet connection speed as a whole is way under the max WiFi card speed, then it's not the WiFi card that's bottlenecking my connection, so getting a faster one wouldn't do anything.

I haven't the faintest idea. I imagine it's the ISP, I live at an apartment and the internet is free and.... well, you get what you pay for, right. There's also like 20 other networks floating nearby so I'd think the interference messes things up too.

I'd like to confirm the battery life numbers for the 4k model. The lowest I've seen reported was just over 2 hrs and the highest was about 5.5 hrs. For those of you with the 4k model, care to comment further on the battery life you've been seeing? Anyone getting more than 5.5?
