Front left rubber stand/'foot' is shorter than the right one. I need to put 12-page Dell brochure under it to level it out.

Hate to return it for this reason...

Battery fitments is fine with my 1420. But my 1420 'wobbles' slightly: one of its four rubber stands (the front left one) is shorter.

Love my 1420 so far. F'ing FAST!

yea i am definitely loving my 1420 so far. the only issue i have with it was last night as i was using it, my fan was constantly running for some reason. i wasn't even doing anything intensive; in addition, the air exhausting out wasnt even hot, it was room temperature. not sure what caused that though since it was the 1st time it happened since using it for about 4/5 days now.

Ordered mine last night from Australia. We pay a lot more even thougth the AU is almost the same as the US dollar!

    1874.00 AU $ (no GST & 5% discount http://www.dell.com.au/epp)

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T7500
2.2 GHz, 4MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB (some strange reason upgrade from T7300 was only $7 ?)
Genuine Windows Vista(TM) Home Premium - with AERO experience (ultimate wasnt' an option in Australia?)
2 Years Limited with Next Business Day Onsite Service
Free upgrade from 120GB to 160GB hard drive
    Free Upgrade 9-Cell Primary Battery
14.1 UltraSharp(TM) Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) Display with TrueLife (hope its not grainy as some in the forums have stated)
    2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software <- didn't know this was just software...waste of $20
    NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 8400M GS with 128MB GDDR3 dedicated graphic memory (almost got the 1520 for the 8600GT)
    160GB SATA Hard Drive
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilitiesÂ
    90W Primary AC Adapter (110V/220V)
9-cell 85Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Dell(TM) Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module
    Intel(R) 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-Card (think I wasted $40au)
Espresso Brown Color with Microsatin Finish and Integrated 2MP Webcam

    My first ever laptop.

    Inspiron 1420

    Microsoft Windows Vista Premium
    Midnight Blue
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, 1.66GHz
    2GB Memory DDR2 667MHz
    14.1" WXGA
    160G 5400RPM SATA HDD
    Intel 3945 WLAN (802.11a/g)
    High Definition Audio 2.0
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
    6-cell Lithium Ion Battery

How did I do? I know I don't have the money to be spending on super CPU's, and most of them I have seen on here have been in the T7000-range. Will this still work out fine for me?

I'm sure it will be fantastic. I had same debate, but decided on all the upgrades as I only buy a laptop every 3 years or so. I was curious if I got the T5250 (1.5ghz) if I could still play games like Civ 4 and if it would get better battery life?

Two days ago, after seeing the 7 day delay for Midnight Blue, I asked if I was affected by this, and my CSR said that my part was on back order. Today when I checked Dell's website, I found that there is a 15 DAY delay for the Blue color. I started to really consider switching to Red, but when I asked the CSR, he said that there was no delay on my order anymore, and that the rest of the process would move along now! :D How long do you think that will be?

I take back what I said earlier. My order still has a backorder of 10-14 days. I don't know why the man earlier told me there wasn't.

    This is so freaking unbelievable.

i have been extremely happy with my 1420 so far, except for the graininess of the screen. I just noticed something weird though. Down near the bottom of the screen were the dell logo is the plastic seems uneven, like the plastic sticks out on either side of the dell logo from the screen. Is this the same on all 1420s?

    Hey everyone,

Anyone have this model in white? I hadn't realized this color choice was so unpopular!

One question: If they say my Anti-Glare screen is on backorder for over a week, and my order is expedited, is there a chance they will get a screen in for me before then?

Probably not.. I work in Manufacturing myself and basically you just assemble away. They may give me rush work orders to do first.. but I am grabbing the components from the same shelf for ALL systems... Usually manufacturers will just keep building until something runs out. I highly doubt they set aside components for expedited systems. I work at Sennheiser NM and build wireless G2 microphones. We hardly ever miss customer ship dates.. our customer being the regional distribution center. We do run out of stuff but generally will overnight those components before missing a shipment. But Sennheiser is a high end electronics company. Dell is mass production comodity product. Plus their is a allot more components in a PC to assemble. Must be a rather large list of suppliers they have to coordinate. I can imagine the purchasing department at dell must be large.

I have a 1440x900 and it's one of the nicest laptop LCDs I've ever used - not grainy at all.

I noticed that my 1420 is now in the FED X sort facility here in Albuquerque. It came in early SAT morning. Supposed to be here by 3PM tomorrow.. Problem is, I have to go to work by 1:45 PM.. If I call FED X can they get it here before then? Is it possible I can just go down their and pick it up? I would hate to miss this package if the guy comes at 2PM. :(

xie - can you kindly tell me how you got your 1420 system at such a low price? I must be missing something since my calculations all come to at least a few hundred dollars more.

    Thanks,

    Eddie G.

Yeah Brian, I do feel a little sick after reading your post. I basically got your config, except with a wireless-N, but mine came out around $1200, did I get ripped or did everyone just get really great deals. Either way, I must go practice stacking coupons now.

o damn, thanks for catching that. i do have a wireless-N; i have the Intel 4965 wifi card. i gotta change that in my signature. but i had gone through a lot of hoops and hurdles with Dell Customer Service to get a deal like that. in addition, i had used the phone reps to place my order instead of doing it online. also, i went through the EPP section rather than Home or Business.
