yay i am in the testing phase!!! how long does it take through the testing phase?
-
-
I see lots of orders here. Has anyone actually received a 1420 yet?
-
-
How can I find out if I get a remote with my 1420? I don't remember seeing the option for a remote while ordering.
-
you dont get one if your in the US. you have to call and order it, i think its liike 50$ too. Canadians get it freee if they call up
-
I try to order through Dell HOME - is that the right section of Dells website to use an educational discount? -
They stacked for me last night when I ordered (that was like 3am PST. I'm a night owl)
But it looks like Dell changed it so the coupons no longer stack. -
Does anyone have one of these actually shipped yet? Mine's in boxing, has been so it should be shipping to me soon. Just curious...
-
i think some may have their hands on it already, because there is a person in the forums that got theirs lost because of dhl
-
Any new word on getting the remote included on the 1420's? Interesting to note that in the CNET review of this particular laptop, I believe the reviewer stated that the remote comes standard and fits perfectly in the Express Card slot.
Hey, if some were getting it free, I want one too. -
-
was the cnet reviewer from the states? -
yep:
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-inspiron-1420/4505-3121_7-32486109.html?tag=prod.txt.1
It's mentioned about 4 paragraphs down. -
I see all of these amazing setups for such low prices, but I can't seem to get my price any lower. Is this price ok for the setup (take note that I am getting the 3 yr. warranty/ complete care options)?

thant - probably the best deal you're going to find now. Keep in mind though that the EPP stuff isn't *always* the best deal.
MY LAPTOP HAS SHIPPED!! -
try going to dellunleashed.com and then go to the gift registry and find the 100 dollar coupon for students on top of epp discount. online it will only ring out as 50 but call the 800 number up and tell them you want the full 100. if you sign up for the dell credit card account they should also take off at least 50 dollars.
-
With the additional $50 off (I haven't called Dell yet) my setup actually ends up under $1600, resulting in only 8% off as opposed to 12% off. So the coupon makes it more expensive. I suppose that I could bump it back up to >$1600 by upgrading the hard drive.
Edit - With the 7200 RPM hard drive and the 50$ off, the price is back to $1420 -
Well I just now checked my order status and my laptop sleeve and Lojack thing for the Complete Care have both shipped. So I got the tracking numbers and they're already in Riverside! And then I checked my laptop tracking number and it is in Riverside also!!
So that means it's all going to come tomorrow!!!!!!!!! I can't hardly wait!!!
And unlike some other people when I get mine there will be a BARRAGE of pictures. -
I ordered mine on June 28th. The expected ship date was July 20th. But they were way ahead of schedule.
-
-
I figured out what happened, kinda. DHL (customer service) claims the Oakland DHL facility has it and is holding onto it. So I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow. Just wondering why they never updated the tracking. Guess it's too much of a hassle for them to go back and fix it.
But yes, I've been wanting to see pictures too!! 1520 pics are up already, but no one seems to be posting any of the 1420! My camera's all ready to go too. -
ahhh im still in boxing hopefully it will ship tommorrow, what color did you guys get
-
phobos512 did you pay for one day shipping, or did they give it to you for free? Did you receive an email or anything about it? Just curious because mine is gonna ship tomorrow probably.
jkim when did you go into boxing? -
im not sure exactly when I went into boxing, but I have been in boxing since july 10th.
-
-
Does anyone know of any Dell discounts Available for students in Australia? It seems all the Dell coupons are for the Americans only
-
are there really backorder problems for 9 cell batteries?

Got this when the 200 EEP coupon still stacked with the ~200 off sale.
I cancelled my previous order (which came to around 1100) to get this config because it has completecare. -
HOWEVER, the laptop itself says it "shipped" from Sparks, Nevada, 343 mi away, while my laptop sleeve says it "shipped" from Fontana, CA (~120 mi away) and my LoJack kit from City of Industry (also ~120 mi away). I should note also that the shipping information for the laptop was received by the shipper at midnight yesterday meaning that they might have had it for the first shipment out of the day from that facility to SoCal.
The laptop and laptop sleeve both got to the DHL Riverside sorting facility at about 930pm yesterday according to the tracking. The LoJack kit arrived there just after midnight.
Now, the sleeve and the LoJack kit both list today as the delivery date, while the laptop lists tomorrow, which I find odd. However, the DHL driver for my town, since we are so remote, is a guy who drives a minivan up here once daily (in other words it's not a huge corporate operation with 5 billion DHL trucks and guys in little red and yellow suits running around) so my hope is that he'll grab my laptop also and they'll all show up today. But if the laptop doesn't show up until tomorrow that's OK too because I wasn't expecting to get the thing until 23-25 Jul anyway!
EDIT
And funnily enough I just now a few minutes ago got my "Your order has shipped" emails from Dell. -

About to order, think this is a fair price? -
Steve - your specs are almost identical to what I ordered lat night, but I lowered my price after discounts and coupons to $1420 without tax. I see you're getting the 3 yr warranty. Did you select the option to "double your savings" with a 3 year warranty? If so, you should be receiving a 12% discount since your system should be over $1600 before tax. Also, if you aren't eligible for any student discounts, I think you might be able to get it for less at the Dell Home subset. If you are, then it is cheaper through the Dell university section after all the coupons.

Sooo this is the configuration I ordered this morning with upgrades in bold:
Inspiron 1420
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 ( 2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Spring Green
FREE! 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display ( 1440x900)
128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8400M GS
160GB SATA Hard Drive ( 7200RPM)
Windows Vista™ Home Premium Edition
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
No Camera
No Productivity software pre-installed
Norton Internet Security 2007: antivirus, antispyware, firewall, 15-month
85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
TOTAL: $1,117.00 (free shipping, price not including tax)
I used today's $300 off coupon: G01JG242730SDT
Also, I started the configuration process from the base, stripped down model and that seemed to be even cheaper.
Alas, there's an expected ship date of 8/15/2007. Bummer. So will I likely have to wait over a month for my new baby to arrive? Say it ain't so! I'd love to hear anyone else's experiences with a long backorder time. Didja get it sooner? My fingers are crossed....
Cheers,
Heather -
I ordered my 1420 with very similar specs (blue instead of green and no audigy sound card software) on 6/29 and they gave me an estimated ship date of 8/03. However, as of 7/10 it has been in the boxing stage so I'm hoping I'll get it shipped pretty soon. *Crosses fingers*
-
If they allow you to modify your order, you could save more money by dropping the Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition. This is the same integrated sound card but with a software upgrade. I'm not entirely sure about this, but as it is a purely software matter, I would tend to believe you could find this as a download somewhere.
Also, what is your warranty on this system? -
it is indeed a software upgrade - DO NOT GET IT its a POS in all regards. i don't even know why one would want to "download" the software

Lots of pictures and full review to come! -
Thanks for the tip regarding the Soundblaster Audigy upgrade -- I had no idea it was only software.
I called Dell and asked to change my configuration. They said they could only cancel the order then resubmit it minus the SB Audigy upgrade. I said no thanks and kept the order active for the time being.
I forgot to mention, I also placed my original order through a link on FatWallet.com to get an extra 3% cash back -- about $33. Reordering over the phone would have voided my FatWallet rebate, so I went back online to start over. Again, I logged into FatWallet, followed the 3% Dell cash back link, then began a second order.
I'm glad I went back to reconfigure because I was able to drop the price from $1,117 to $1,038!! I used the same coupon and same configuration, just without the SB Audigy (-$25), instead I opted for the better wireless card (+$25) and also noticed I could skip Norton Antivirus and save -$79 (cheaper on Buy.com, etc).
After the second order was placed online via FatWallet, I then called Dell to cancel the first. A little bit of a hassle -- first call was to India talking to someone about why I wanted to cancel and confirming all numbers, info, address, etc. Then of course India can't actually cancel the order, so I was transferred to the US and repeated all information over again to cancel. Positively stupid...
But hey, I saved some more money so thanks again for the tip!!
Cheers,
H -
you could save yourself some grief in the end, and just SKIP norton
damn i forgot about fatwallet this time round! -
I was just checking up on the EPP site to see how prices were running now and it seems that things have come down a bit. I could be wrong about this though. I purchased my system without Complete Care and just the 120GB HDD (I guess before the 160GB was offered for free), but now it seems that with those options it wouldn't come out to much more. I don't have another one of those $200 student coupons, so I can't determine if they are still stacking with all the other EPP discounts.
My biggest issue with all this is that my Est. Ship date is Aug 9 and I simply don't foresee it coming much before then. I can be patient but many others have already received theirs/about to receive with similar specs and ordered around the same time. Mine was ordered July 6. And now of course there's the Vostro line which many claim to be getting great deals on and closer ship dates. -
Just ordered mine:
