why dont you call them up an see if they can leave it with a neighbor or somthing if they are in? or ask for a estimated delivery time?

bad news is they extended the EDD by a day (3 days thanks to the weekend), but thats proberly to allow 2-3 days to ship.

I'm kind of wondering if it's true that DHL doesn't deliver on weekends, My system was being delivered all weekend long, saturday all day at least for sure, and then it resumed delivery sunday evening. To arrive Monday morning.
Is yours being Delivered with DHL or FedEx?

 

I got mine today, or actually home got mine today, im 100 miles away in oxford. Got to wait till friday, can't wait!!!!!!!

I ordered mine 4 days after you, and (as of last night anyway) its still in pre-production.
Getting quite worried actually, considering the EDD is the 17th of december lol.

 

mine stayed in pre-production until it was shipped, so dont worry. i had to do online chat to the sales reps to tell me other status's

yeah, im going to post a full review + pictures and benchmarks for it.

its getting delivered by a company called Walsh Western, as it was made in ireland, it will get delivered by an irish company. on their online tracking system they quote the 14th it will be delivered.

NUUUUUUUUUUU! My laptop was delayed till the 21th, due to "an unforeseen shipping delay on all Inspiron 1520 Notebook systems at this time".

If it is shipped that day, I'll only get 2 weeks to play my new PC games =(

 

Hey guys

Well I made my order on 4th December and it was being processed from the next day. Since then it took a week until the order status changed to pre-production that was on the monday 10th. Yesterday I check and it says its been in Production as of 10th again the same day. Anyway today the 12th and its jumped to the fifth stage being despatched. It took a week to move from stage 1 and now in the last two days its jumped to stage 5 which is great, I guess the order status page must have fallen behind.

By the way my EDD is by 21/12/07 so I still have over a week to go but maybe I'll be able to get it a few days before since its been dispatched.

 

what pc games you gonna be playing?

 

I ordered it the same time you did, pcgamer, and basically the same specs. Hopefully, we'll both get it before the 21th, but I have a feeling you're more likely than me. My order status still says In Production. I wish I could see what status of production it's in. They're just leaving me hanging...

What games I'll be playing? I got TONs of new games, anticipating a very great but anti-social xmas holiday =D

Crysis, COD4, Orange box (spefically TF2), Gears of War, Bioshock, and Lost Planet. I'm more looking forward to amazing multiplayer of TF2 as I was, or actually still am a avid gamer of Team Fortress Classic.

hmm, dell seem to be dead on my EDD, as the shipping co states it will be the 14th (TOMORROW YAY!!!) but there are alot of cases when it can be earlyer.
go to dells online chat and give them your order number an get them to check... they get really funny saying to "call this 0870 number" but tell them you dont have access to a phone, and when i order off you guys, you said i can use online chat to contact you at any time to resolve after sale questions...

i done that and i got hungup on (by paradeep_chandaskra) so i went into chat again, and in the subject field wrote "i wish to discuss order number XXXXXXX with paradeep_chandaskra) and got transfered through to him straight away. then he gave me a response within a minute "it has finished production today, going into testing tomorrow, and hopfully shipping out the next day"

go pester them, an dont take no's for an answer. also, black mail them about bad feedback, when you exit the call you can complete the customer survey, the lil dudes from 'Dell'i like good feedback (see what i did there?)

 

Yeah I we hope do, don't worry I think its just the order status page isn't updated quick enough so you should get it in time, if you've been waiting too long then perhaps you should go to the customer service page and email them for a order status query, they'll mail you back and tell you what stage you are actually at.

By the way my delivery is being made by Walsh Western too.

As for the games I'll be playing COD4 and just hoping I can also play Gears of War on it nicely.

mine is apparently due for shipping tomorrow, it's currently in birmingham apparently. Being shipped via business post.... *fingers crossed*

 

There's definitely a noticeable bit of grain to the screen when compared to my Acer 5100-5033 and Inspiron B130, but it doesn't seem like I got one of the worst ones. As of right now, it doesn't bother me enough to want to have a technician come out and replace it, but who knows how I'll feel after another week or two?

 

I think I ordered mine around November 23rd or so and it's estimated shipping date was November 30th. It got delayed and the next estimated shipping date was 12/7, but it ended up shipping on the 3rd and I got it on the 5th I believe. Unfortunately it has the annoying headphone jack issue so today I got in the mail the box that I'm supposed to use to ship it back to Dell so that they can fix it, and I also got my RAM from newegg, but I cant install it or use my laptop until I get it back.

So irritating -.-

 

Urg. Keep us updated on how it works out? Did you try getting them to send you the express slot sound card?

 

I haven't been able to look at my system yet, it should still be lying safely inside the box. Nontheless, I hope it's in perfect condition, it would suck it I had to mail it back to Dell due to some hardware problems =/

Well its here. Looks lovely, and the keyboard feels like it will be a dream to type on. Doesn't seem too heavy neither (but I am used to carrying around a stupidly heavy school bag). Can't give you anything more than that as I'm not allowed to try it lol (I'll see if I can get both parents out the house lol).

 

Nope. My battery ~appeared~ to be full, but I just plugged it on A.C. power while I played with it, just to be sure.

mine still isn't here yet - i called business post this afternoon and they said "we forgot to put it on the van, it'll be with you before 5.30pm". :'( I want it now....

 

We all are recieving it today , I got mine this morning, a week early!. So far everythings good, it is a little heavy in comparison to other notebooks I've handled but its not a bother. And Yeah I also like the feel of the keyboard.

I had I think it was 123gb free disk space from 160gb to start with but now I have added a few stuff.

There isn't really any bloatware, I got this Tiscali internet thing though.

It does have Google Desktop, Roxio Creator, Adobe Reader, McAfee, Microsoft Works installed already.

So far so good.

Just a question regarding the supplied Windows Vista disc. Does it include the software that is on the laptop when you get it? (so if I were to reinstall windows with it, would I still end up with a load of software on it or not?)

232GB was the full size of the disk, but 8GB (I think?) was eaten by Dell stuff. Get rid of the partitions and free yourself~

 

Parents are out atm, so just had a quick check lol. Didn't finish the vista installation though as I don't know how long they will be.

Anyway, screen is beautiful. From what I can tell, no grain at all.

Plugged in my sony headphones (£10 lol), and hardly any noise from the headphone jack. Much better than the jack on my desktop. Can hardly hear it, and I'm sure its something that I probably won't even notice when I'm using it.

Very happy with it all in all. Can't wait till I can use it properly lol.

It seems everyone is very pleased with their systems. I'm glad Dell delivered them all in less than two weeks, I had to wait an extra one for mine, but I get home Monday, FINALLY!

 

Mines wasn't so lucky. For some reason it got diverted back to the warehouse or something, and I couldn't understand the rest of what the tech said.....but they gave me $100 off for the inconvenience after I threatened to cancel, and they are expediting a new order or something, so i'll get it within 2 weeks they said. Honestly I should've canceled and bought the 1530, but I felt bad because I gave all the techs a hard time, and the $100 they gave me pretty much made the 1520 the best deal because with the gift card the net cost for me was $900.

 

Scenery, so how is your notebook performing so far?

 

It's doing wonderfully! I haven't been able to do any high-end gaming yet since I can't open Bioshock until Christmas (Y.Y), but everything else has been a dream. *_*

The headphone jack noise is starting to grow a bit old though.

 

Headphone jack has problems eh? What if I used it for external speakers? Would it be that noticeable? =/
