Be Patient. -
ordered 12/12/07
shipped 12/16/07
EDD - 12/18/07
With courier now ^^ -
-
Yup, I got it in a total of 6 days since I ordered it.
The initial expected delivery date on it was January 4th.
Either I got lucky or they found out my mom works for dell lol. -
Nice. Mines just got here, looks now.
Did you use the EPP? What did you pay for it and what were the specs? -
I'm not sure what EPP is but its:
Inspiron 1520 Black
15.4 (1280x800)
Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.00Ghz
2GB DDR2
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT 256mb
120GB 5400rpm
Windows XP Home Edition
2.0mp Webcam
802.11 b/g (I think)
It was $1024 including taxes and shipping was free -
Woah, I paid 200 more than that and had the exact same settings (except the OS). I'm guessing you live in the States?
-
EPP is the employee purchase program. I figured that if your mom works for dell you would've used the program to buy a laptop. I don't blame you for using the regular discounts though, EPP kinds blows now.
That looks like a good price. Definitely US price. -
Hi all, I just joined for this great dell forum,
I'm just curious, those of you who had to wait so long what stage took the longest? I ordered on 12/19/07, and it went into production 12/20/07 which is yesterday. The Dell rep said 2 to 3 weeks but the EDD is 1/17/08. Now I'll be torn up If it takes that long as I've got a show to and MUST have a laptop a week sooner than that, I'm fairly confident they can do it by then but who knows whom the waiting curse will strike next I guess.

I ordered my 1520 on Dec 4. and it was supposed to ship the 19th. I even called on the 18th to verify that there was nothing holding it up and it would ship as scheduled. I was assured it would ship as scheduled on the 19th. The 19th rolls round and I get an email saying my laptop has been delayed. It's now scheduled to ship Dec 31.
It's almost funny. When I call to see why it was delayed I'm told it's because of parts being on back-order, but when they transfer me to the build team to see if I can swap out a part or just to find out exactly which part is delaying my laptop I'm told they can't tell which part, just that my laptop has been delayed.
So anyway, I'm not real happy with Dell at the moment. They did upgrade my shipping to next day for free, but it would still be nice if they stuck with their holiday shipping guidelines. When I placed the order both the web site and the Sales Rep I called said that all the parts were in stock and that it would be built and shipped in time to get here for Christmas. But of course they don't have any of that listed on their website anymore nor to the Customer Service Reps know anything about that.
What's even funnier is that I also ordered a DV9500t from HP on Dec 6 and not only did it ship on time but it arrived 4 days early. So I'm sorta happy there, except I can't open the DV9500t until the 1520 arrives, silly agreement I made when ordering it. -
Mahanri: If I was you I would b*t*h off to them & request something free, next day shipping IS NOTHING <.<. I talked with a dell rep today, yes today, 'cause I'm p**sed of the lateness my laptop will come, no delays or anything, I just don't want to wait, won't come till the 7th of next year; they said we'll give you free next day shipping, I'm like WTF! I already have next day shipping, but I got it free when I ordered it, they wanna seem so nice with the next day shipping, its bull crap. Anyways, like I said, b*t*ch off, say that your going to cancel it, they're trained to stop people from doing this & will give you free stuff, at least thats what I read on this forums a lot of times. Good luck
-
As to your question. The process which normally takes longest I would sa would have to be the In-Production stage. The Customer Service agents stated it could range anywhere from 7 to 15 days. That would also depend on the avaliability of the parts. From everyone's experience, or at least most people, Dell usually ships their systems, very much before their estimated ships dates, as also mentioned on this particular post, Estimated Delivery Dates are conservative, so you shouldn't count that much on them.
My system was scheduled to ship December 27th, and it shipped December 7th. It even skipped the Boxing, Testing stages.
I would say ask if there is any lead time on any of the system parts, may ease things up for you a bit.. try to remain positive.
As I said earlier, they normally deliver their systems very much before their estimated delivery date.
It happened to me, but I have to keep coming back here, since I was the initial poster, so I try to help as much I can, as others did for me -
I canceled my order, 'cause dell ****ed me over, long story & talking with them for 1hour & 50mins. Anyways, I'm going to wait till the 1520 are a bit cheaper then order, they change the prices every Tuesdays so yea. I'm going to wait to see what they have the the 25th.
-
Thats really a terrible attitude Atsushi. If you are polite to them, they are more willing to compensate you. Actually, January 7th isn't that bad of a date. Not too long. When did you order? You do realize that they have to build the laptops right?
-
Ordered on the 15th, it was coming Friday, but dell ****ed me over, I was going to buy another laptop from dell, canceled that one, LONG STORY, I wasn't able to order the other laptop I wanted & can't reorder the one I cancel since it was the 1501... so yea.
-
I am pretty sure you would've received your laptop much before January 7th, and as FearTheTerp mentioned above me, regardless January 7th is not too far off. However what's done is done and we have to respect your decison, but just keep in mind the Customer Service agents aren't the ones building your system, and it is the Holiday Season after all, so your system isn't the only one in line. You just picked a busy time to order a system, and it's not your fault, but considering the Season, I would've thought you would've been a tad more understanding; I can guarantee it would've been worth the wait.
Regardless, I hope everything works out for you. -
Oh, and Merry Christmas guys!
-
-
Are you stupid? You were crying about how long the notebook was gonna ship, and didn't explain the "long story". If you've come here to cry, you came under the wrong premise.

I placed an order for my system (Inspiron 1520) on December 16th. I just called to check on the order status, and it said my system is in the "Boxing" stage. It still has an estimated ship date of January 8th (which it has had since I placed the order). I was just wondering if it might possibly ship before that. Those of you who have ordered recently, after your order went into 'boxing', how long was it before it was actually shipped?
I'm really antsy to get my system ... but then again, who isn't ... LOL. This is my first laptop ... it's replacing my almost 8 year old desktop. I'm just itching to get my hands on it ... LOL. -
It is very possible if it says it's in the boxing stage (which from experience took a day). If it ships on Monday(31), you'll definitely get it before next weekend. Good luck!

Hey everyone!!!
Well, I paid for my new dell 1520 on the 21st of December, and now its the 27th and the status is still "Recieved Order, Awaiting payment" however I do fully understand the christmas season and banks only just reopened today in New Zealand so I can fully understand the time it takes esp over this time of the year.. but like so many of us, IM SO EXCITED AND CAN'T WAIt FOR MY YELLOW BABY hahaha
btw, niceto meet you all =]
Matt -
They usually use extremely conservative estimates, which is stupid, especially around the holiday's when your always moving around, never knowing if your gonna get the laptop before a certain deadline or flight. They shipped mines out 2 weeks before the original EST.
-
I ordered a 1520 laptop from dell new zealand on the 19th of December and talked to the rep. She gave me a good price with a discount.
wsxga screen
1x1gb 1x2gb ram
320gb drive
8600gt 256mb
t7500
vista basic
red color with 2mp webcam
I mentioned to the sales rep that I will be going out of the country and will be away for about a year or so (my flight is january 8th). Hearing this, she told me that the latest that the laptop will be delivered was january 4th.
When my order was processed. I was able to check the online status the following day. It says that Dec 28 is the estimated date of delivery (Hurray!).
For some reason though, the last time the order status page was updated was on the 24th, which said that the laptop has arrived and is in the port.
Now it is Dec 28 and the status is still the same. NO laptop delivered to me either.
I am just concerned that for some reason the shipment is indeed stuck at the port for some reason, and not yet at the courier.
Should I cancel it if the laptop does not arrive at the end of the day January 4th? (is the order even cancellable as of this point?)
I also was able to talk to their shipping department. And the person I talked to was not able to provide any information either. -
Well, so far *Touch wood* I can only say good things about Dell and their customer service.
Our payment went thru 27th Jan and should have showed up by the 28th of December, but they think we paid so I rung them and spoke to the finance department, they sorted it all out instantly and have thrown in a carry bag for our troubles, it was beginning to be built yesterday and I just checked the estimated delivery date which was Jan 14th 2008, but now its been pushed forward to January 8th 2008.
So far, Dell and their attitude towards my custom has been of excellent quality, if all goes smooth and my laptop performs as expected (Inspiron 1520), I'll be a dell customer for life, I'll never look back at my old HP Privilon Desktop!!
Cheers and Happy New Year!!!

My laptop shipped today via DHL ... woohoo!!! I'm really hoping that they will deliver it tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath ... LOL. I just can't wait to get my hands on it.
Now I need to search the forums for threads about optimizing things when I get it ... to get rid of some of the extra stuff that Dell throws on it (if anything). If anyone can point me in the right direction on that, I'd be appreciative. But I'll be searching no matter what.

Dell finally updated the order status for my laptop.
It seems that the courier got it on the 28th.
Less worries for me now
I am very excited! -
Awesome stuff!!
meateater, I'm assuming your from New Zealand too??
Did you have problems with Dell reconising New Zealand does NOT have states???
I need delivery to Gisborne, however I have rung up several times telling them Auckland is NOT a state and is no where near Gisborne... quite fustrating!!
Im going to call back later and enquire of the delivery address, if its still wrong ill get a tad angry... New Zealand is not that hard to understand... lol
Matt -
Hi Matt, yes I am in New Zealand right now. Its good that Dell finally updated the orderstatus. I also called dell customer support and they said that the laptop is on its way.
Yes not having states is a bit of a problem. I checked the delivery address with the dell rep and they gave me the correct one.
You might wanna call this dell 0800 number:
0800 941 125 and then choose the option to talk to a dell rep.
I hope you get your sunshine laptop soon! -
Thanks man, do you live in Auckland?
I rung them, after being changed to 8 different operators because "they couldnt understand me"... i got a lovely lady called Lisa who is my case manager, she will call me as soon as it arrives in New Zealand and will then finalise the delivery address and give me a consignment and tracking number..
Just a thought, I understand Dell is trying to save money by making call centers in Asia, but could they PLEASE hire some english speaking people, its so difficult understanding some of them!!!
Oh Well!
YAY for the 1520 in yellow!! -
8 operators?? wow thats tough. Good thing that dell is going to give you a tracking number. I was not informed by the dell rep of a tracking number.
-
yeah, although some of the call center people are actually amazingly friendly, i sorta feel sorry for them being taken advantage of, from large western companies eh,
Just my personal view =] -
I feel bad that they have to put up with our S***. I swear I don't want to be cruel, but sometimes I have to so they understand what I say.

My laptop is out for delivery right now. Oh how I hate the waiting. Hopefully it'll show up this morning or early afternoon so I can start playing ...
-
Dell called me today. The rep told me that my laptop will be in my hands by tomorrow!
I hope this is true -
Hey!!
wow, awesome news meateater, sadly once the laptops arrive in New Zealand they are directly effected by public holidays, (hence the reason why they dont get delivered until 3rd of jan), so because of this I dont get mine till monday next week... or HOPEFULLY friday...
hehe
can u post some pix of your system once u get it??
Cheers,
Matt -
Hi Matt. From my experience, Dell does not update the online order status checking very much during the holiday season.
It might be that your system is already with the courier and might ship earlier.
So lets cross our fingers...
Yes will post some pics when I get it.
I'm gonna be very busy when the laptop arrives . -
Yeah, im hoping they will update it tomorrow... but the couier is ment to contact me to confirm delivery address apprantly... lol
Yay! bet your excited!
Awesome as! what colour did you get?? -
It finally arrived! Gonna unbox this baby in a while and take some pics!
-
WHOOOT!!!
May I ask, was it PBT who delivered it? also, did anyone call you to confirm delivery address or state it will be delivered?
Wow, now im so impatient for mine!! -
Not sure if it was PBT. I was too excited to notice.
Sorry...
They did not give me a call to confirm any delivery. I guess this was because the dell rep kept on following up with me on the status of the laptop. -
Meateater, enjoying your laptop??
Got any pix yet hehe??
Anyone receive 1520's lately?
