twbos, when did you order? how long has it been in pre-production?
im from the UK and my Estimated Delivery is now 25/09/07 but my rep is still confident that it will come on the 28/08/07. the only way that is going to happen is if they manage to build/test/box/ship it on the 27th!! my rep said in an email that it is in production but the EMEA thing still says pre production.
-
Hey, I ordered on 07/31 and it has been in production since at least 08/04 thats when I checked for the first time.
-
same here, ordered 7/23 with esd of 8/6, changed to 8/28. Not holding my breath that it will be mysteriously built, tested and shipped by 8/28 when its still in pre freaking production! lol....oh well.
-
I sent an email today asking about the late delivery..and depending on the response I'll be on the phone tomorrow..talking crap to the rep hopefully

Actual ship date: 8/25/2007
Just got an email from DHL that is was out to be delivered today...
Not really sure if mine is maybe easier or just plain.
Thought i would share.. -
For the second time, the EDD changed.
Orderer on 7/4, EDD 9/29.

-
Ordered 1720 on Aug 25 not knowing what I was getting myself into. Estimated Ship Date: 1/1/0001
Chatted with CSR today about the impossible ship date. CSR's response: "The estimated ship date 1/1/0001 is incorrect, complete information of the order is not yet updated. It will be updated by end the day. I will send you an email with the correct estimated ship date."
Wonder if this is their new way of avoiding pushing back ship dates....just don't give the customer a ship date...

Was trying to impress y'all with my laptop specs *blush* -
My 1720 has been in production for 60 days today, if it doesn't ship today/tomorrow Dell has lost my business!

No Norway flag here?
I think Dell have forgotten the Norwegian customers. I ordered two 1720 the 30. july - one midnight blue and one spring green
Since than it have been no change on my order status.
Not in production - ESD 13. September
The customer service (in Denmark) can say nothing more, just give me the link to my order page.
I have paid for order but have no product  -
This morning, 4:45am... currently in production... in the build stage.
How long does 'build' take? Is this indicative that all the parts are in?
This info was obtained from the 800-433-9014 status line. Seems this number is more informative than the CSRs... -

My date changed this morning to 9-05 also :-( really unhappy camper....
-
mine says est ship date of 7/30/2007.
at least your status is being updated. Dell keeps telling me to call QVC. How loud do I have to scream before they realize that QVC can't help me (I've only told them a million times!).
this is so wrong! -
-
My ESD went from 01/01/0001 to 9/12/2007. I have my doubts though....
-
A rep just told me my 1720 hasn't even been put into production yet, and should be by August 31st...so I should get it by September 14th...It was suppose to be delivered by August 23rd..and it hasn't even been looked at yet!?!? Die Dell Canada
-
The 14th? I was told shippments on the 31st and I would have it by the 7th. I guess i'll have to wait but it's really getting to me.
-
Just came from the Direct2Dell/Inspiron site, and it seems as if Dell is experiencing a delay due to the heat sink/fan assembly.
I imagine there's about a million other parts to a laptop... maybe we'll get lucky and only have to endure delays on 1/2 of those...
*sheesh* -
I think it's official...Dell is building their laptops from parts obtained by bidding on Ebay. Your ESD is actually just the end date of the auction. Pray that Dell is the highest bidder!

So, I ordered mine on July 24 and it went "into production" on the very next day. ESD was August 21....
So, I don't have much faith in the order status page as it STILL says the ESD is August 21... my calendar tells me that was 7 days ago. I called the rep on the 22 and she said... it will update within 24 hours. Friggin IDIOTS... how can anyone believe ANYTHING they say.
The sad thing is... my nephew, who lives in the same city as I do ordered the EXACT same hardware aside from the color (he ordered white and I ordered blue) and he has had his for 3 weeks now.
I, on the other hand, have not so much as received a status update, nevermind an e-mail or an apologetic phone call. SOMETHING DELL... TELL US SOMETHING! -
lol well pushed to *edd 9/5 still wondering if i will ever see my vaporwear 1720
* edd = estimated delay date this day is where you get a new date to be delayed to
im starting to not buy this crap whats really going on heatsink delay ya right parts like this are suppose to be allways in large stock and preordered before they get low. dells sounding more like an actual ebay computer seller . honestly do big companies really have these issues , sounds like ever excuse is being used here . i odered my vaporwear 1720 @ 7/18 in this time i could of torn down a laptop and custom painted it real fancy .... ( as one person how many laptop could you custom paint in 2 months hmm i bet one person could do about 20+ a day maybe more with a paint room and hundereds of cases im sure a 2 man team could do 100's - 1,000's so whats going on ) the only thing i can buy as a shortage is possibly the new lcd oled screens -
just got done chating with dell cs and there still back ordered the blue paint pieces .... they also said black and white was in and if i switch my order it would go out , also they confirmed that the vostro 1700 case was also the same and either 3 could be used to sub in your order he tried to connect me with another department to change order but never made it that far think i will wait to another day ... lol not really wanting to change my order just to get delayed and the short end of the stick but honestly i don't know if i even believe them
-
Get in like tech...
-
Can it really be....
Today I woke up to that dreaded we're sorry your system has encountered unexpected delays and now has an ESD of 9/5 message. I keep asking myself how long until I cancel but I could never pull that trigger. I kept thinking if I cancel now I start over.
Anyway, I have found a pretty good case manager that has done a pretty good job of staying in touch with me and also compensating me for my delays. To date, like everyone else, free upgraded shipping, $100 credit and now a Free Targus LA Gear Laptop Case. No big secret, I have just been nice and what I believe to be reasonable with him and of course gently reminded him how he needs to help restore my faith in Dell.
The biggest surprise was tonight I called and checked the status and it is now in the Testing Stage. Now it might sit there for another 50 days but it sure makes me feel better knowing that something has changed and there is some movement. Most systems I have seen in testing stay there for a short amount of time. Maybe there is hope for some of us to start receiving our systems.
I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts, seems I cannot stop looking to see what is said next. I figured it was time for me to post something. I will keep you all posted as to how my system completes the process. -
We all want compensation. So why not ask Dell together?

5:36am, 7/29/2007
In Boxing.
Is this good?
Yesterday at this time it was In Build. -
Well, I have dailed the number 4 times and it tells me I am in the "Testing" stage. 44 days after I placed the order. There is hope!
-

Currently in boxing... philharmoniker, hopefully you'll see a change in yours soon... you and flafalcon have the same specs except for the processor and the screen...
-
Wonder how long they stay in boxing. Mine switched to boxing late last night or early this morning depending on your time zone. Seems like testing was a very short time but now boxing for others I have seen posting takes a while.
Come on Dell shove it in a box and let's go. -
Also got delay to 9-05 yesterday, called status line this morning and it was in build. Thot I'd try again just now and it said I was in Kitting!!!!!!!!!! Lordie got my fingers crossed that it's for real LOL
