I wonder if that happens when someone else returns a laptop and they use the one you were going to get as a replacement.

Just received the following email from a Dell CSR:

    Dear Ms. daginth,

Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.

I understand from your email that you want to know the status of your order.
I will be glad to check on that for you.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you and I will certainly assist you
    with this issue.

You have reached Dell's Online Customer Care Department for Home and Home Office orders. Since your account is with our QVC Division, I am unable to access the necessary files to assist with this request. You may contact them at:

    Phone: [800-367-9444]

We appreciate your patience, and apologize for any inconvenience. Your case number for this interaction is 173461051. Please keep this number for your records. It will help us keep track of this issue so we can better assist you if you have any further questions or concerns.

If you require further assistance, please feel free to visit our Online Support
    Center at:

    http://support.dell.com

Again, thank you for choosing Dell Online Customer Care.

    Respectfully,

    ***********************
What's wrong with this? Let's see...

    1. I have not spoken/chatted with this particular CSR so I'm not sure how he received my info

    2. I placed my order with Costco Wholesale, not QVC. I swear I've so much as called QVC (3 times, actually!) to verify whether they really can help me (they can't... big surprise!).

    3. My online order status still says 'in boxing'.

    4. He says he will 'assist me' then blows me off to QVC.

There's probably more, but come on... I don't know how many Dell CSRs I've told via telephone or chat that QVC can not help me. Doesn't Dell keep a record of all the contacts? I've challenged each Dell person who has told me to call QVC to call QVC themselves, and every last one of them have said that for whatever reason they can't do that. Does that mean that Dell CSRs can't chat and take phone calls at the same time? I'm a single mom and I have DSL so I can do just that. Even my work allows me internet access and telephone access.

I'm so tired of this incompetence.

    Thanks for listening :)

And of course I am STILL in boxing. How ridiculous is that? Shove it in a box already and put it on the truck. LOL I am getting anxious only to be let down. Thought I might have a new laptop before the weekend. Maybe it will ship today. :)

    how's this for frustrating?

I ordered 3 white 1720s on July 24. They're all delayed well past their original ESD of 8/6, but my online order status still says 8/6. I've been in contact with my rep at Dell, but get this, the last reply I received (Monday), says the following are holding it up:

    KU311- monitor..ETA is 8/27

    NG409 -KIT,CBL,S-VID,CMPNT,SPDIF,WEST
    1000 @08/23

Near as I can tell, KU311 is the E228WFP panel I ordered so my folks could use these on their desks easily with the belkin dock and so on. The NG409 is some cabling kit I don't care if I ever get. I've told my rep, and now another rep that all I want is some idea of why I can't get the laptop now if it's ready, or if it's not ready, what am I waiting on? No answer yet. Seems stupid, huh? At this point, I just want the darn laptops. I don't care when the monitors show up. You would think this would be an easy situation to resolve, these issues being low hanging fruit and all...

    I ordered:

    white
    WUXGA glossy w/webcam
    T7500
    2GB
    80GB drive
    256mb 8600GT video
    Intel BGN wireless
    Bluetooth
belkin high speed docking (received 8/1)
    E228WFP monitor

Just received an email from a Dell CSR Manager, informing me that my laptop is in the final stages of shipping and should be shipped within 4 to 5 days.

Yesterday, was told it would ship within 2 to 3 days.

On-line order status doesn't tell me anything; automated order status says I'm still in boxing.

How long does boxing take? You put the unit in a box, fill out the ship-to addy, wait for pickup. Even if you do it longhand it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. Even if you do a million a day, it shouldn't take too long. Most of that info needed for the shipping labor is already automated, so WTH???

    Well lets see....

Since the lids were apparently done paint by number with water colors...

And it seems they are probably several thousand behind...

I am guessing shipping might be via a carrier pigeon or wagon train depending on if you have ground or next day air. :)

Come on and get me out of boxing already. I want my laptop.

Daginth, the way I understand it from reading the threads here is that like so many things in this process "boxing" isn't quite what it sounds like. "Boxing" means the laptop itself is READY to be packaged with its manuals and power cord in its retail box, but that doesn't happen in Malaysia, they have to ship it to a Dell facility in the country where it's going and THEY do it, then ship it it to you from there. So "boxing" counts in the shipping from Malaysia too.

OT, how did you get your Dell Customer ID and stuff when you purchased from Costco? I've been trying to figure out mine from the documentation I was given and I've not been able to...if you could PM me that'd be aws.

greg77... what are your other specs? as of right now, there's a 10 day delay on the lid... but if you ordered that early, they should be pumping them out soon... I haven't seen many others on this forum that have ordered it though...

I think the only thing that would be holding it up would be the brown lid... I know when I was ordering, that was close to the estimate for some of the colored lids... Hopefully it'll get through soon! The other colors are starting to speed up a bit...

    FINALLY.....

It now says it has been shipped. 3 days of boxing later and it has really gone to shipped. Of course thanks for next business day on Friday before a holiday weekend. That is a real gift. LOL Oh well I am just glad to get it. I might call DHL and see if I can some how have it redirected to one of their locations that I can pick it up on Saturday. We will have to see about that. I am guessing not but it is worth a try.

Good Luck everyone else I will update one more time once I get it. I hope it is as great as all have been saying.

Possibly the Intel processor. T7300 are out of stock all over and not even offered on Inspiron notebook systems any longer.

OMFG...............I actually have, yes I said HAVE, my new laptop in my hands here on my desk. Unfortunately I am at work and of course cannot play until I am home. I did open it though and the color looks fantastic. I will leave an update later if it was worth the wait. Today is exactly 8 weeks past the order date.

Good Luck to Everyone Else Waiting....

Well now I am home and typing this message on it. So far so good. Just got to get used to the new Windows. Had a little difficulty setting up my wireless connection but I believe it was my router settings and not so much this computer. But now we seem to be sailing along.

Good Luck to everyone else. So far it definitely seems like the wait was worth it.
