hahha
well...
i think you have anti glare screen, which, according to Newbie's situation, should be in stock now
so i guess you should be seeing yours going to post-build stage fairly quick

I hope so... I guess that's assuming that they pull parts for the computer as they get them in... Hopefully you'll see some movement with yours too...
Edit: Wow... just had my first chat and first conversation with a CSR and I coudn't really tell you anything they told me. I'm not even sure if they said my system was or wasn't delayed because I couldn't understand what the CSR was saying... Oh, and the chat was practically useless other than to get the customer care #. -
Yeah, last week when they contacted me on the day my item was supposed to be delivered they told me that the Spring Green lids would be coming in on the 27th and offered me a $100 coupon on my next purchase, which will go unused as I don't want to do business with Dell again, completely without me saying a word. I was impressed by the fact that they offered me something without asking but I am not confident that the Spring Green lids will actually be coming in on the date he said.

I wish I could find a CSR I understand. I don't really want to call back tomorrow, maybe on Thursday or Friday when I'm off. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to their delays at the moment...

I can't believe this fiasco!
I ordered my 1721 through Costco Wholesale on July 16 (that was the 'official' order date), and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the order, my ship date was 7 - 10 business days. I chatted with a Dell CSR on July 28, and after an incredibly long chat, discovered that it now scheduled to ship the week of Aug 13, with expedited delivery (overnight). They gave me a travel bag for consideration, so I was reasonably satisfied.
Tried calling 3 times last week to check status: All three times, the CSR gave me a toll-free number to call. Turns out that was the number for QVC Customer Service. I thought they were joking. I re-grouped, and thought maybe... just maybe... Dell contracts with QVC for these '3rd party orders'. I called QVC and they don't even recognize the number I give them (the Dell Order Number and Dell Customer Number). I'm not even surprised.
I call back to Dell, argue with the CSR, and then am transferred to a manager at my request. The manager is apparently on the phone with other customers, so I'm on hold. At least 45 minutes later, the music stops, I hear a click, and another click. I was disconnected.
Meanwhile, the Order Status page at www.dell.com has not changed; it still shows a ship date of 7/30. My existing laptop is ready to die (I'm not ready to let it go!), and I'm frustrated. Costco lowered the price of the item I purchased, and now they're not even selling the item. I have let Costco know what is going on and how Dell is treating me.
On Saturday morning, 8/18, I do the Dell chat again. Again... they want me to call QVC. I challenged the CSR to call QVC themselves and tell me what they say. At least 3 times I was told to call QVC. I finally get to chat with a manager, and he told me to cancel my existing order and go to Wal-Mart.
I am so serious... I can't even make this up. Finally, he tells me it is scheduled to ship on 8/28 via overnight service. That info came from the manufacturuing department (I was surprised... I thought he got it from QVC!).
Dell isn't even treating Costco with any respect from what I can tell. Costco can't tell me when I can expect my machine. I'm not mad at Costco; I want to know what's going on with Dell. And how are some folks getting rebates and printers and extended warranties??? How do I get in on some of that???
What I really want to do is write a letter to someone at Dell, but the more I read about other peoples' frustrations, the more I think a letter will just be forwarded to QVC or something like that.
Just wanted to share my excitement with Dell. How can they not see that this is horrible??? -
Does anyone know if the lead times on the parts they are claiming are in short supply includes weekends or is it strictly business days? Also, do statuses often change during the day in the U.S. or just overnight when it is daytime in Malaysia? I guess what I'm really wondering is if I should even bother checking the order status hotline during the daytime...

doug piston: The motherboard is probably what's slowing it down right now... Same as mine... (Intel Integrate Graphics Media Accelerator)... the wait is down to 5 days according to the website... but... other people have pointed out that these delays are not always correct, and i've noticed, not always updated when they should be... so i can't say... I only started tracking the delays listed on the website yesterday...
swc829: I only saw a 9 day wait for the Intel Wireless-N Mini Card... are you inside or outside the US? -
-

hmm... when did you order? this is one thing I don't understand either... when I ordered the only thing that was delayed was the color of the lid, but it doesn't seem like they start building until they have all the parts... i really thought they would set the stuff aside that was there when I ordered... but i've seen that's not the case, or my computer would have been built on Monday when the black lids came back in...
-
i ordered on the 17th of july. totally of topic but i think i just relized im a moron. is that n wireless card gonna work with my g router??? gosh i hope so

Nothing has been updated since this morning as far as delays. I still haven't heard anything, and am still in the black hole build phase... Has anyone seen activity on their 1720 order lately?
-
Bionic_Butterfly: No I am in the US (Iowa). I was just looking at the website again and now it says 9 days again...maybe I was doing the math wrong before. -
Yeah, I'm pretty much an idiot and went to Intel's website and answered my own question. Yes it will still work...

Not a probelm! I would think you should be able to pick up any network at all, as long as there is a wireless signal near you. My home computer is an ANCIENT compaq that likes to shut off when it's grumpy, and dial-up modems make it think too hard to function. However, I have a netgear wireless adapter on it that picks up a signal from the router in my house and 2 others in the neighborhood. Now, this is one that I got 2 years ago, so I'm sure that if the Intel card is better at picking up a signal than my current desktop (which it almost has to be) I would think you would have a longer range of signal and a faster connection speed. And technically, since that was an upgrade, you'd probably have a faster and better connection that what's gonna be on my 1720, because mine is just the wireless card that was included.
-
Thanks for that info, it's good to know. I live in a very rural area so it's either wireless or dial up (which isn't an option anymore). Luckily I'm close enough to an unsecured network that I pick that up. I'm hoping with the new wireless card the speed will be a bit faster which was the whole reason for me selecting the N-card in the first place. I hope it's worth the wait!!
-
Well I got rid of my DELL order and ordered the new CLEVO barebone. see sig for the contrast of my Dell Order with this one. DELL Eat your heart out. I will be moving to the CLEVO board pretty soon I guess
-
I ordered my 1720 on July 30th..it is suppose to ship today (August 23rd) but it is still in the building stage...so I'm not holding out much hope
-
I ordered mine on 7/11 and it currently says it's SHIPPED. But I guess I'll actually find out if it makes it to my door soon.
-
there's still hope!!!..... NOT
-
I turn 22 tomorrow..doesn't Dell know this..?!?! Heartless bastards
-
well..
Dell knows your birthday, but maybe it knows your 23rd birthday instead of the 22nd one
^_^ -
maybe the priority is women and children first...
-
ndietz914.... please come back and post if you've received your computer. My order date was 7/16, specs look the same 1721/midnight blue, so maybe there's hope that I'll be receiving my computer soon!
-
I'd be interested in hearing about blue 1721s too, I'm in the same boat you are, daginth, except a week later...

Still waiting on my Jet Black... and I configured it trying to avoid delays... LOL! Patience is such a virtue I don't have...
-
but the problem is the delay itself is not excusable.
who buys something and expects to receive it in 2 month instead of a few days or 1-2 weeks... -
-
-
i will be the lawyer too. -
go ahead and sue the crap out of dell I got my lappy and I'm Happy!
-
NoNo! wait until I get mine too Mine is now two days late of the ESD..26 days total..I really hope it doesn't take 50+ like some of the people here
-
darigaaz...what kind of screen do you have?
-
40 days and waiting, no end in sight...
-
-
bionic_butterfly Notebook Consultant
I'm not seeing how they are going to ship mine by 8/31/07.
-
Philharmoniker... sue the bastards! count me in... I have documentation ;-)
-
-
I want to see IF you do, if its going to be around 9/6-9/10 -
yup...whoever has the anti glare one should have your 1720 at least in post build stage
yet i think for all of us glossy and high resolution(1920*1200) screens we still have to wait.
btw, 1920*1200 screen is really really really really NICE
wish i had chosen that one -

Another day with no word, and the status update number isn't working at the moment...
-
On a positive side note, my rep assured me that the 08/28 ship date will be met and that there is no reason for further delays. Because of that I did not get offered anything (but I also didn't ask for anything ) to make this situation better. I just remained very polite, understanding and calm, probably the wrong strategy to get at least expedited shipping.
We really need this machine here, since the old Inspiron 8600 has disassembled itself and the spare Thinkpad T60 really sucks.... (mainly because the screen is way to lowres and tiny) -
im from the UK and my Estimated Delivery is now 25/09/07 but my rep is still confident that it will come on the 28/08/07. the only way that is going to happen is if they manage to build/test/box/ship it on the 27th!! my rep said in an email that it is in production but the EMEA thing still says pre production.
