Hello all, new here.
Ended up finding these forums when I was reading the Direct2Dell blogs, and fearing the worst!
Made the order as follows:
Order Date: 8/29/2007
Build: 8/30/2007
Est. Ship Date: 9/21/2007
Est. Delivery Date: 9/26/2007-9/28/2007
Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2.0GHz, 800Mhz, 4M Cache
Jet Black Color with Matte Finish
4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card
8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
3rd party:
RME Fireface 400
I pray that going with Jet Black and the basic screen keeps me from being another horror story! LOL
Luckily I made the right choices before even knowing about the shipping/production fiasco!
I plan to immediately install Windows XP SP2, 64 bit within the first 5 minutes of it being out the box. Already slipstreamed the disc to include all neccisary drivers.
Although I cant find a video driver that guarantees 64 bit, for the 8600M GT specifically.
Anyhow, pleasure to make your acquaintance...

Ordered mine on the 13th, and its finally coming tomorrow!!!!!
-
welcome to tha club! -
Unfortunately, Dell typically fails to notify of a delay until the day of the ESD. Also, I had a printer< AIOP 926> that was supposed to ship on the 28th, and got pushed back to 09/06
Keep us updated -
mine is still in production and the ship date is 31th -_- go built stage!!
-
You might have noticed that Dell, at least on the US website no longer offers the T7300 as cpu option for inspirons. I'm wondering whether this could be part of the excessive delays people (often with 7300s I noticed) are seeing.

Well, it's the 31st yet on the Order Status page it still shows my printer's ESD as 8/30/2007. Wouldn't they have changed it by now? And It's still in the build stage.
-
I got pushed back again. I called dell, they confirmed that there is "color" issues and "lcd" issues. whatever the hell that means. I explained to them that 09/05 puts me two weeks into school, and asked what were my options in terms of compensation, and they told me that since i hadn't waited 30days, it was their policy to offer nothing. Isn't it also their policy to ship in a timely fashion?
-
Ordered on 08/30
Est. ship date 09/20 -
Mine has been shipped, but under Ground, not Next Business Day, like it was supposed to. Would have had it today, but now I have to wait until Wednesday because of the holiday. I called and asked why, and they said that it takes 24 hours to process a change in shipping, and my laptop shipped after the change took effect.
Oh well, at least its on the way. Better than most people, sorry about the waits guys. They do suck.
I wonder how long this will go on before Dell gets their act together, prolly when demand drops and then its business as usual for them. As far as not being compensated until after 30 days, I'd call back and try to talk to someone else. I think it all depends on who you talk to. They guy I talked to was very nice and upgraded my shipping free of charge, and mine shipped on schedule. Just keep trying, you'll get something.
Make them give you 4GB of RAM!!! -
Intel T7100
Vista Home Premium
2GB DDR2
1440x900 glossy screen
128mb 8400m GS (my first discrete GPU...ever )

DVD/CD-RW
85Whr battery
Total: $1,058 (inc. tax)
Ordered 8/25
Shipped 8/30
Received 9/4-6?
I was starting to get worried that I'd be waiting for the next month after reading posts in this thread, so the email about it being shipped already was a welcome surprise. -
Hey guys check this out... i called a CSR a couple days ago and she told me that my notebook hasnt started being built yet because i chose a COLOUR notebook... (JET BLACK) lmao... the colour is delayed apparently although i told her black wasnt specified as being delayed... either she didnt know what she was talking about or every F***ing colour for the inspirons is causing delays now... cant wait for my "BACK TO SCHOOL" notebook...

Currently in the boxing stage. Hope all plays out well..

lol.. i was already given 300$ in credit plus the credit of the screen wxga vs wsxga however much it is they are issuing credit once it ships.. i call today cause i see they never added the overnight they promised.. the rep was very nice.. indian guy but had very good english no complaints.. he went to check on all the other credits as he seemed suprised but he called escalations and he said yes the credits are correct... and then he says for your trouble today ill be adding another 50$ credit myself to give you a total of 350$ plus the screen credit of 100$.... i can live waiting a couple more days i guess..

Question what was the deal with the $100 screen credit?
-
I cancelled my order.
Order date: 8/19
ESD: 8/31
Got email today for ESD: 10/03
I'm just going to wait a while til I can save up and buy a vostro since preferred account won't work with business. -
I just got my invoice number and looked at my OEM configuration and I have the dreaded AUO screen. Are all of the AUO screens bad or has anybody had a good experience with them??
-
-
i call back yesterday and the rep i spoke with after giving him the case number thats been following the escalations one.... tried calling the guy i spoke with and could not get a hold of him.. he said i apologize greatly for all the times you have had to call and ship us back systems.. i have the authority to issue my own 50$ credit as well to you account. i am now taking ownership of you account and here is my number and extension... once the unit ships i will call you or you can call me and the 300$, 100$, and now the 50$ will all be credited back to your visa card...
if you have any major issues ASK FOR ESCALATIONS... DONT SCREW WITH REGULAR CSR REPS..... once you call and ask for escalations they know you are serious... -
i just chatted with dell and they told me its more likely i´ll be getting my lappy sooner than proposed =D. And right now im in production, which she told me that its involved with building, testing, etc.
-
my vostro shipped today... glad i didnt wait for the 1520
-
Hey zfactor thanks for the advice. If my screen is defective then I'm gonna immediately ask for escalations. This screen issue is really pissing me off. The fact that they keep sending them out hoping no one will call them on it is such bs. Hell I'm really thinking about cancelling the order even though it's enroute and just getting an Asus G1S-A1.
-
the escalations dept pretty much bent over backwards for me.. they were almost willing to do anything i asked of them if that was at all possible.. when ever i asked well how about this.. if he could do that he said sure we can do that.. the only thing escalations can not do is change orders.. if you want a different piece in the system it has to be cancelled and re-ordered as i did. other than that the guy i spoke with said they pretty much can do almost anything (up to a certain extent lol)

That's good to know zfactor. haha

WTF?!?! i just checked my dell order status and after being in pre-production since aug. 27th, it now says CANCELLED!!!
it says "This order has been canceled because the associated lease financing was declined."
does anyone know what this means or if it might just be a glitch and why it took so long for it to show up?? wow i'm freaking out right now -
try calling to make sure. Seems like your payment type was declined. Did you use Dell preferred account? They have a habit of sometimes approving and then changing their mind.
-
hmm my parents payed for it so i'll have to check with them in the morning, but why would it take dell so long to check the payment? and even if it is a mistake does this lose me my place and line and push back the esd that i had?
-
once an order is canceled, you have to do the whole ordering process again...
-

After 40 days, I'd post on evey thread I had the time to do so. Hahaha! -
FYI... it's just possible that DELL has a metric which measures their performance on how many "pushes" each customer receives. So, in order to minimize the pushes, they start using parts ordered for earlier customers to fulfill the demands for later orders. This minimizes the actual number of customers experiencing pushes, but sacrifices the older orders/customers. So not a true metric, but a number they can hold up and say "even through this, only X number of people were effected." Problem is, I'm one of the "X's".
Would someone care to comment?

anyone know if the wxga+ 1440x900 screens are causing any delays for the 1520s? or is it mainly the t7300 processors and colors
-
The good news is I am no longer waiting for my 1520.
The bad news is I got a grainy AUO screen and am now waiting for a replacement to be sent to me.
It's perfectly usable in the mean time, whites/lights just look really crappy. -
what res did you get ????
-
Woohoo! I'm in the boxing stage!
-
Finally, its on the truck and on the way. Its been a long wait, but not as long as some of you. Hopefully the screen isnt grainy, though the wsxga hasnt been reported to have that problem.
-
seems like they're catching up. Hopefully my order will hit testing soon.
-
I knew they were the ones with the issues, but I'd still rather have a somewhat grainy 1440x900 than a great looking 1280x1024. -
Well my black 1520 looked like it was on schedule (Dell schedule LOL) and going good. Got a package deal with a printer and got the 2 week delayed shipment email on that this a.m. Talked to a customer service rep about it and found out my laptop also has been pushed back 2 more weeks also due to a 7300 processor delay. Gave me free next day delivery for now so we will see what happens after the 17th.
-
Ordered the 1520 on 8/17. My first ESD was 8/30. I called on 8/31 to ask what happened, they said that there was a screen issue. I asked for compensation and got next business day delivery and a new ESD of today (9/5). It has been in the Build stage since 8/20 however I called this afternoon and it went into "kitting" then back to building and is now in testing. I assume it will not ship today since it has not yet gone into boxing. Can anyone take a guess at when it will ship? And should I waste time trying to get further compensation??
Also, this is my first post but have been reading for weeks.
Thanks in advance
