Anyone else out there using the Adamo 13 right now?

I got mine with the 5 yr warranty, and I still have 3 years left... 3 more years until it retires....

I am wondering how well the 1.4ghz and 4gb ram will hold up like 3 years down the road... It still works 100% fine for hd video watching and all.

I work every day on my adamo 13. It sounds impossible but I have only the 2 Gb RAM machine and working in the graphics industry. :D

I develop concepts and design frontends for large global company websites on my small little 1,4 Ghz adamo 13. But hey its running good. I use XP to get more RAM. I have a memory display for the systray and wondering myself that I rarely get out of RAM. Only with really large image files it can, but mostly you only have to close some applications. So its a myth that you need much resources for graphics or for work in general. I learned also that you work more precise and concentrate about one thing in one application.

To have some RAM reserves I want to buy a 4Gb RAM board and change mine. But its really hard to get one. Especially in europe. And I'm afraid that a 2Ghz CPU will blow the whole day. The adamo should be as quite as it is now. I hope to get this board soon.

    All,

    I have a Dell Adamo 13 with a 128gb Samsung SSD.

I'm having problems getting Windows 7 installed after testing Windows 8 Developer Preview.

I get the error, "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition." when trying to select what drive / partition to install Windows to.

I'm installing from a USB drive. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

    Thanks for your time!

    Grant

In the bottom of the batty cover, in the middle, there is this silver metalic plate with dell logo, adamo thirteen, intel and windows logo. Anyone know where I can just buy that plate? or even just new genuine battery with that plate???

I got battery replaced and the plate is not there...

But come on dell... not again.... the design is just horrendous. I am supposed to get my unit replaced, but they are refusing to send anything but 15z, which looks just soooooo BAD.

OK, guys, I hava a problem.

I have a Dell Adamo Pearl with 4 GB of RAM an 2,1 GHZ CPU.

System started acting weird so I ran memtest and get tons of warnings that RAM is not OK.

The thing has a warranty till December. Noooo, please dont die on me.

    Anyone has problems with RAM?

Can you suggest any other tests beside memtest? Remember I dont have a CD-ROM unit :).

Can they fix it at Dell or is this thing obsolete? I don't want it to die! :)

Damn...another Adamo 13 is going to die.

Win7 has a RAM Test. Try F8 after BIOS and somewhere there was a startup fixing tool. That has also a RAM Test.

But I´m afraid that the RAM is going to die. And you can´t replace it. But the good is that the adamo is very easy to open ( Look here. So you could buy a used board from Ebay and replace it. But unfortunately are they really rare. I´m searching desperately one since a time. When you´re in the US, it will be easier to get one.

    Here are all ID´s
    2WP3G = 2,13GHz 4GB RAM
    9VK9Y = 1,4GHz 2GB RAM
    F286K = 1.4 Ghz 4GB RAM
    T678M = 1.2 Ghz 2GB RAM

I tried to write a mail to dells technical department to get the desire motherboard but it seems impossible. First to find it on the page is an adventure and then I have to register and get an error that it is not possible to register at the moment. Thats how dell deals with customers. But beneath that, my screen starts to get bubbles in the corners. So I will need a new screen soon.

Why are so much shops selling RAM upgrades for the adamo? Its soldered, are they just nuts?

I realize that obsolescence comes very fast in the laptop world but really... do you expect that most of the 2-3 year old Adamos would already be in the bin!? (I still have an HP Pavilion 5445 in daily use - I bought it in March 2002! :) )

nah I didnt. Mine is still perfect for dozens of internet tab + office programs + HD movie watching all at the same time.

I was fortunate enough to secure an extra motherboard, so when the warranty runs out in 3 years, I would still be able to use it for a few more.

    1) How much was the extended warranty?

    2) Are you absolutely sure they have parts available for another few years?

    3) I can assure you that if you happen to need system exchange, they will send you an XPS 15z.. For now at least until we have something newer.

Yea the 1.4ghz is fine for whatever + Hd videos.

I changed the motherboard from the 1.4 to the 2.1 because of the 4Gb RAM. It was really hard to get the board.

I will have to throttle the CPU because the fan is running a little too often for my taste. When I used the 1.4 I never realized that there is a fan built in. Very silent machine.

I tried many part-dealers to find the 2WP3G (2,13GHz 4GB RAM) and a seller wrote to me "Dell is selling this part for $2,400 because this is a rare board." When you find one (which is really rare) you can pay around $499.

I had the luck to find (a new!) one in europe for a better price, but I since I searched (several months) the amount of 2WP3G´s is going down. In january you could always find some in Texas (where Dell produces) but today there is nothing anymore.

That was my experience till today with parts for the adamo. I will keep the adamo and my HP Pre3 forever, thats individual ;-)

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with ADAMO repairs?
I have had a recent repair which has turned into a bit of a disaster.
The "b" key on my keyboard had stopped working so I swapped out the keyboard with another from an ebay seller but now the laptop wont even turn on. I reattached all the ribbon cables inside but its so difficult to troubleshoot the problem .
At the moment when the mains adapter is attached there is no light and no response from pressing the power buttons

    Has anyone any advice?

Maybe I´m wrong, but the "starter" button ribbon cable is that damn small thing at the upper side of the board beneath the display connector. Its hard to connect it because you can´t reach it. You are shure, that it is correct connected?

Is the machine completely dead or only when the "mains adapter is attached" ???

    sorry, I didn´t get it.

what chromax said is exactly correct. It is not hard to reach that at all. you just have to unscrew really two small screws and take out the middle hinge thingy. It will show up right away.

no matter how many new ultrabooks come out, the adamo 13 still has the best design. imo, the vizio 13inch is just about the closest it gets. the new xps 13 is still too "roundy."

Does anyone know if its possible to install a WWAN card inside the Adamo XPS P02S001 ?
    I mean THIS model:

I have just bought one, but I dont have it yet in my hands... will get it next week.
I was just thinking if its possible, as in the specs I dont see that wwan it's onboard already... nor I have found anything around the net.
I dont even know if there will be still a free miniPCI express slot free, as one should be already taken by the SSD drive... and the other by the WIFI card.

    A couple of other questions...
    1) I have seen that unlike the other Adamos in this thread, in the XPS version the RAM seems not soldered on the main board, and there's a single module.
Does anyone know if I can put a 8GB ram single module in replace of the standard 4GB ?
    2) which PSU uses this Adamo XPS? 90w or 65w?

well dell says this model does not have a wwan option. but if you look at the mobo there is a wwan slot and also a sim card slot. now i don't know if it works or not.
max memory is 4gb. if you decide to try with 8gb let us know if it works :)
the psu is a 45W odd square plug shape

Yes, this Vizio looks nice. But lets be honest, this is almost a 100% clone of the air. The adamo was claimed to be an air clone (since every thin laptop is claimed to be an air clone, apple seems to have a patent on thin notebooks) but this is hard to differ from a mb air. The only uniqueness seems the light at the front.

THIS is another reason I love the adamo, real cursor keys!
    Look at the Vizio...

    This is unique design:

Is there really no manufacturer who wants to sell his own, unique style?
No one who have the balls to make a notebook that is unique and sexy?
    I´m really disappointed....thank god there´s adamo! :)

Does anyone know if the Adamo can support up to 1600p?

I have Dell U3011 screen and when I hook it up, max is 1200p. The dell monitor gives full 1600p with display port.

i looked at lenovo site spec sheet and they say that gma 4500mhd supports up to 1600p. They can be wrong but I was wondering if you guys got successful with it..

This might have been covered before, but searching didn't find it, so does anybody know whether the stock SSD is standard? That is, there is a "Corsair 240 GB Force Series 3 Solid State Drive" on sale now for $250, so I'm considering replacing the 128GB in my onyx 2.1ghz / 4MB Adamo with this one, nearly doubling my storage. As I recall the stock Adamo drive has been described as "thin", so could this prove a problem?

    Thanks!

Lappycamper: NO. The form is mSata, 1.8mm. The conventional 2.5mm Sata is GUARANTEED to not fit in physically.
You are stuck with 1.8inch msata SSDs

Hey guys is it too late to join the adamo thread?

I own an Adamo XPS, and Adamo 13 Onyx (Admire model) and and Adamo 13 Pearl.

I'd have to say my favorite is the Adamo 13 Onyx.

The Adamos are a beautiful feat of engineering.

    What say you?

This thread is pretty slow these days - most people have moved on to the latest and greatest ultra books I guess. I agree with you though, the 13 was the first to give the mac book air some competition in the PC world.

I have a pearl and thought about getting an onyx as well, but now-a-days they are few and far between.

One thing that worries me though, is the battery situation. When the time comes it is not going to be easy or cheap to find a replacement...

@rGershey - True although dells new xps is cool, it is not as cool looking as the adamo 13.

When it comes to batteries, the adamo's battery is actually really easy to install. just open the bottom, unplug the cable and thats it. Its easier than you think.

You can easily find replacements on eBay :) which is where i found my pearl. I bought it as a hobby to fix it up, it came with no SSD for $100 then bought an SSD and now its up and running beautifully. I may sell it soon as i dont need another laptop! haha

My onyx ive had for almost a year now(256GB SSD 4GB RAM) and the XPS battery you can still buy directly from dell (bought one last week)
