In most cases as long as it's from a real seller, as in this case Dell, yes, they double the warranty up to an additional year. If Dell had a 90-day warranty they would double it to 180-days. Not all versions of all cards do it, so you have to check, but I've used it at least 8 times in the past 10 years, it's always been awesome.

Just beware that you have to go through Amex and their 3rd party repair service (PC Laptops) for Amex warranty service.

They state that the approval process takes, on average, 4 to 6 weeks...Once approved, you send the system in for repair, they quote a turnaround time of 10 business days.

It works well, as long as you're not in a hurry.

Correct as far as I have experienced.
However as far as I'm concerned a 2nd year of warranty at no charge to me should the unit die is an asset, and something I would not get in a cash transaction.

In many cases Amex will let you get it repaired through the original warranty vendor (i.e. Dell) and then as long as you use your AMEX to pay for it, they credit you on your card.

    Has anyone experienced this?

I purchased the desire model with 256gb ssd and 3g card. After couple weeks, some of the keys on the keyboard just started not working. Then now more than a half of them do not work.
Sometimes I have to press really hard. I even got a new keyboard, but it still have the same problem

you might want to ask dell for a complete exchange for another unit.

my keyboard is fine, granted i probably dont use it as heavily as others might.

my keyboard is fine. although sometimes i feel like i have pressed it pretty good, but is not being typed. this only happens when I am typing fast but it might be that i just am not pressing it right.

do u also experience REALLY bad keyboard flex?? it is kind of ridiculous..

adamo is no longer the 2nd thinnest, but not the 3rd thinnest 13 inch. new samsung series 9 is 0.64 inches thin.

it apparent is 0.01lb light than air and 0.01 inch thinner than adamo... hmm samsung prob deliberately did this..

    Odd noob question.
In a lot of the pre-release and early hype there were refernces to a custom Dock software and a custom Adamo theme, I'm not seeing them anywhere, and the thread doesn't have references, does anyone remember seeing them or have a spot I can grab them?

The other odd thing was I found very little bloatware, zero in fact, just a Dell DVD for the Win7 install in the box with it. Was this the way new units shipped? nice clean and fast?

I have an ATT 3G 5530 card on the way just to see if it'll grab GPS off it, I couldn't find the GPS only card a few reviewers spotted.

grr, I can't seem to get the GPS aspect of the card to power up unless I have a valid SIM in the laptop, am I missing something?

I have no real need for the wireless data, but a strong need for the GPS, should I just give up and order the Dell AzureWare DW700 card I've now found online?

The Dell bundle software has a GPS section with the broadband manager.
Should I be using something else?

well then prolly your wwan card only supports assisted gps. that's when the software uses the 3g network to locate. if there's no sim card then it can not determine your position because there is no network to use

The Adamo is currently available on Dell UK for £499 (£500 discount). The current offer expires on 6th April. Note that the pearl Adamo is on the next page.

The hardware configuration is the 1.4GHz SU9400 CPU / 2GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. Think of it as an upmarket netbook and the price looks reasonable. The RAM is not upgradable but, strangely, Dell are installing 64 bit Windows.

    Two questions:

    1. Has anybody successfully connected an Adamo to a VGA-only device, as is my projector? Mine came with a displayport -> DVI adapter, but I see it's lacking the analog (i.e. vga-compatible) connector pins. Leads me to suspect the displayport lacks any analog signal.

    2. Anybody successfully connected an external microphone (natively, i.e. through the headphone jack, vs. via a USB audio dongle)?

    1. Display port is able to output to either
    1) DVI
    2) VGA and
    3) HDMI.
Display port to DVI gender is included but for the others, you'll have to
purchase genders just like Apple Macbooks.
I have DP2VGA gender and it works perfectly with my TV and various kinds of projectors.

    2. As far as I know, there is no native microphone out. If you're talking about speaker output, there are two options:
    1) Digital out using HDMI (with the purchase of DP2HDMI gender).
    2) Analog out on the right side of the body.

Thanks, "coolcoon"! For a while there I thought I had stopped this thread cold!

I was thinking in terms of trying to go from the DVI to VGA, but you're correct--I can get a displayport->VGA adapter instead (monoprice has one at a good price).

I was hoping the machine has another connector inside the headphone jack that allows for microphone input, similar to some Macbooks (the Air, notably) as well as Ipod/phones, but perhaps I'll have to resort to a USB dongle to use mic-equipped headset for Skype calls and such.

Somewhere I read that the output is also an mic-input. You are sure that it isn´t working? (Driver etc)

Because I have XP installed and no audio driver has access to the internal mic.

    Hello,

I have had an Adamo XPS 13 for almost six months now. The computer, unfortunately, has been a paperweight for most of those six months. This is because I accidentally tripped over the ridiculous trapezoidal-shaped power adapter, and snapped it off. I have been totally unable to find a replacement power adapter, and have contacted @DellCares on twitter numerous times. It seems no one knows where to get a damn charger. Can anyone offer any help? It's really unfortunate because I've already spent quite a bit on battery adapters which promised to "work with the Dell Adamo XPS" only to have the package come and I find it's just another generic rounded charger which won't fit.

In short: where can I get a new trapezoidal charger? This is killing me! Thanks.

Your sure that the one from the 13 is not working?

If someone sells a broken one on ebay, ask him for the charger?

I have both the Adamo 13 and the Adamo XPS, the two do not match. I managed to destroy 2 XPS adapters already, and man has it been hell trying to replace it. First time I was able to get a used one from dell parts - they shipped me a few before they got it right.

-Oof, nevermind, I saw an image of the connection and it looks like the XPS uses a proprietary shape.-

If you have the time, I would hammer Dell and escalate weekly until you reach a conclusion. I can't believe they can't locate any spare chargers. It wasn't like they sold many of the Adamo XPS.

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting an Alamo off of eBay and thought I'd ask a couple of (dumb?) questions. :)

First off, I'm doing mostly word processing, some Excel and generally rely on a stable internet connection for my securities trading.

Is the 1.4 GHz processor enough for me, or should I really have the 2.1? How about RAM, is the difference noticeable for my use? This is easily upgradable regardless, right? I really want the SSD hard-drive since I've never tried this before.

What kind of battery hours are realistic? Do they come with HDMI, DVI and/or eSATA inputs? Is the charger compatible for 220V electric systems? Is the quality feel and craftsmanship "really that good"? What is the durability and hardware-feel like?

Generally speaking, should I opt for a new unit or is the refurbished ones safe? I might even consider a used one if I get it cheap enough.

Which operating system is best for me, 64-bit W7 or just install the old faithful XP Professional (is this possible)?

Also, is it anyway possible for me to get my beloved native language vowels "Æ", "Ø" and "Å" into the keyboard?

    1.4 is plenty

For office use 2 GB is enough, although apps like photoshop or multi-tasking many apps could benefit from 4 GB.
    No, Ram is soldered on

    3 hours
Presumably you mean outputs, and it comes only with HDMI out of the ones you listed.
    Yes
    Yes

    New is better of course

    Win 7

    No

They're all the same. Network card is Intel 5300. Adamo has an integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics chip.

Its right. Nobody believes it, but I work as a professional webdesigner with photoshop every day with my adamo and 2GB RAM. But I installed XP (has 500MB more RAM from the start).

1.4 Ghz is great, because you will never hear the fan.

Hey guys, what would be a fair price for an Adamo Onyx with 4GN RAM, U9400, 128 GB SSD? Near mint condition, or so the seller claims.

mint condition.. So I am assuming that this is in fact USED one.

Firstly, it depends on the warranty status. I will assume that it is less than a year. Maybe around 6 month

In that case, if there is NO scratch at all, NOT EVEN ONE, then:
    $600.

The reason is because with outlet which essentially is new, you could get that model for $680 with 15% off. But + tax.. And since it is used and have much less warranty, knock off more price.

But this is assuming that everything stated as the condition is the fact. If indeed he has multiple years of warranty left, of course he can sell for much more.

Let me know like full condition of the warranty status and ill give you a ball park

^ He was asking for about ~$1000 (in my local currency). Doesn't know about warranty status, so he is selling it 'as is'.

I'll stay away from it then. I was just a bit tempted to see an Adamo up for sale. Will probably get the V130 now, thanks.

    2) He doesnt know warranty? that is 100% fishy to me..
    3) $1000 is 100% bs. you know that

dont even talk to this seller...

A friend of mine from class has been experiencing continued issues with his Adamo admire model and has already has his hinges replaced twice and mother board a number of times, does anyone know what Dell is doing about replacing these models nowadays? He still has about a year and a half left of warranty and judging by his track record, it isn't look like it will last. So since it seems dell has phased these out and even the refurbs, what is it likely they would give him in the case his system requires a replacement?

    1. Although the stock does show at the outlet site, dell reserves many more of these adamos just for the system exchange. So the odds are in the NEAR future, the replacement will just be another adamo
    2. I feel like because this is a special system dell will try its best to just keep replacing parts instead of the whole system
    3. technically would be the xps 15z the new one, but again that isnt even near at accurately representing the adamo. so unless u specifically demand for an exchange with xps15z if u have more and more issues with it, they will just keep replacing the parts..

    good luck for your friend..

i got 5 yr warranty because i just like using this system because of the design really.. i only do school work anyways for 1.4ghz with 4gb ram is good for another 3-4 yrs i believe... i honestly think that for this decade dell will not design anything like the adamo.. but we will see

i highly doubt that anything that resembles the adamo will be released... sure the price made more sense for like 1000. and surely dell could have decided to put in the core i low voltageprocessers which will fit 100% fine.

i dont know what happened but they just kill the whole line. there should be some kind of explanation...

There is no market for designed windows laptops. Cool design and materials is sadly the world of apple.

I was desperately searching for a windows machine with cool design and a full aluminium body. The only thing I found was the adamo. There are some typically business-style-decent machines, but almost all plastic. Or with 85% plastic parts. I don´t like plastic and I don´t need something discreet and unremarkable. And by that, who wants a apple, when nearly everyone has one. It is like a uniform and I don´t want to be one of the iPeople. (...and the OS is unhandy)

Yes it is sad, but the adamo was a try to get into the luxury world with laptops but seems a flop. The windows world is a world of stingy people who want to get the most for their bucks. There is no space for luxury. (By the way, the starting price was way too high)

    I cannot agree more.

But Dell could have just kept the design, update the processors, and lower the price to around 999... This could have been great to the over company image and as more and more people get to know the product, i am sure more would have bought it...

Sony series Z just came out. it is only 0.01 inches thinker than the Adamo 13. However, nothing really comes even close to that of the Adamo (with its design... look even at the battery bottom)

But then again, we know that Dell management always make huge mistakes like this. This product and Alienware was ultimately Dell's ticket to revolutionize its image as a cheap PC maker... No wonder why Dell has been doing bad since a long ago.

You know how it is in big companies. Maybe the adamo-series was a playtoy of a big boss and when he was gone, the new one have to do everything the other way. Because when the adamo with new processor and lower price would be successful (and it would) it would be the success of the old boss.

Its like dogs who want to eliminiate the smell of the other.

You see it with HP. Great (web)OS, great tablet but its the child of the old father, so it has to be killed. Lion-style.
And now after HP is gone, the pc market is entirely for dell and some other. But dell is the big number now.

On a different note, does anyone know if the Adamo 13 can output to 2 monitors using the displayport to DVI adapter that comes with the laptop, and then a DVI splitter?
