CrystalDiskInfo shows mine is a Samsung PM800. You can also check in device manager.

What driver update did you use? Did you get it from the Synaptics site?

Interesting information on the charging of Li-ion batteries.

A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.

Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off point in the equipment will do this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate. (Read more in 'Choosing the right battery for portable computing', Part Two.)

Now I can't even remember where i downloaded it from lol

You should be able to use the generic synaptics driver here Drivers | Synaptics

If that doesn't work let me know and i'll upload the version i downloaded

I would recommend the DVD/CD eSata over the USB connection due to the faster data transfer rate. :)

I open and close my lid gently holding the lid by the center just above the webcam and have not heard the popping sound that you mentioned.

the only thing that's happened to me so far was one of the sliding latch mechanisms got loose so when i picked up the laptop, it sounded like something was loose and sliding around inside. i just used a thin spudger to slide the mechanism back to the locked position.

I don't have a sliding latch mechanism on the Adamo 13 that I just got. What model do you have?

so i think i fixed it.

it was definitely something magnetic. every time i held a piece of metal up to the top-right of my screen id hear it. after doing it a few times it stopped, i think it had gotten loose, probably the closed-lid sensor.

hopefully it's gone for good. if it comes back this week i'll send this computer back faster than cold soup.

No, I meant the locking mechanism on the underside of the laptop. The Adamo 13 doesn't use screws to hold it together, it uses 3 sliding latches. You can see the teardown on Dell Adamo Teardown - iFixit

For anyone interested, I figured why my laptop is on sometimes when I pull it out of my laptop bag. Apparently if I apply enough pressure on the outside of the laptop when the lid is closed, I am able to trigger the power button.

I have both 1.4ghz one and 2.1ghz one. After being impressed by 1.4ghz one, I recently got the 2.1ghz one. For a moment, I was happy to see improved windows experience index. But when I ran windows update, I noticed the fan was running far more frequently and its noise is unbearable.

1.4ghz version rarely had its fan running but the 2.1ghz one almost always runs its fan, even when I was running simple tasks like web browsing.
Does your 2.1ghz adamo also make fan noise?

When I got the machine and was installing the numerous windows updates the fan was running quite a bit. Since then the fan doesn't run often especially when just web browsing.

the computer makes 0 sound when web browsing, but the fan does kick in when you watch videos on youtube in full screen mode. The fan also was running when I did my windows updates.

So far I am loving it. I need to sell my macbook pro now, which I have been using it pretty much as a desktop for the last few month. I am getting a mac mini once I sold my macbook pro, so i will have a mac mini / adamo laptop combination.

My fan will kick on if I do something intensive like a full scan with my antivirus. Just regular browsing, word editing etc etc. does nothing.

I am also switching back from Macbook (the unibody Macbook). The main reason for switching is its uncontrollable fan noise and scorching heat :( I should check again if the adamo still makes noise when web browsing.

Another difference between 1.4ghz one and 2.1ghz one is the capslock light. 1.4ghz one has dull, yellowish light while 2.1ghz one has bright pale white light, just like the ones used in the touch control buttons. Which color is yours? :)

I have the 2.1ghz version with 4gb ram and 128gb ssd.

My macbook pro have a 256 SSD in it. It too makes no sound at all unless I play HD videos.

I cannot stand noise because my room is dead silence, that's the only reason I go for SSD. The speed is just a another plus.

I was watching invisible shield on game trailers yesterday and my adamo's fan kicks in if i put it in full screen mode. I test it on my macbook pro 2.66 ghz and the fan didn't kick in even in full screen mode. I think it's because of the GPU acceleration for adobe flash. Adamo doesn't have a dedicated GPU so the CPU takes all the load and the fan kick in easier.

Both machine are equally quiet. I don't know why you said your macbook is loud. When I used to have a 5400rpm HD in my macbook it is loud. I switch to the seagate 7200rpm drive and it's even louder, then I got the SSD and the noise disappeared. I cannot even tell if my macbook is tuned on when it's sitting in front of me. that's how quiet it is. same for the adamo.

Realistically you can't upgrade the memory. The Adamo 13, like the Macbook Airs, use memory soldered into the physical boards. There is no 'slot' to pull or place memory chips. If 2Gb is not enough for you, I would cancel that order.

    keyboard backlight :D

oh btw. the only thing that i don't understand about this machine is how can you tell when the battery is 100% charged when the lid is closed? because the white light is always on when plugged in no matter the battery level.
oh well, i love it anyways. i can even play counter strike on it :D but i won't because it gets sooo darn hot that i think it's going to melt and the fan blows like crazy :p

Has anyone found a battery charger online for Adamo 13 yet? The only thing I can find is the pearl one on Dells website. Preferably a car/home/airplane combo.

I have one for a really old Dell one that fits but am unsure how sensitive this laptop is to differing voltages/amperage.

you can do it but i strongly recommend creating a full disk image just in case things go wrong. i haven't tried this but i see that the recovery partition is set as the active partition. that means you will probably have to set the c drive as the active partition before deleting the recovery partition.
now go to disk management, delete the recovery partition, add the empty space to drive c or create another partition if you want to and that's it.
you will probably need to boot the os disk and do a fixboot because the boot manager was on the recovery partition. if i have time i will try this myself.
if you decide to try it let us know how it goes.
    cheers

so i just figured out a way to operate on only one core using the os instead of bios setup. a single 1.4ghz core running at power saver mode can have many many flash intensive internet tabs while running office 2007 software flawlessly.

    I - The easiest way (non-permanent method):

1 - Run the game or application.
2 - Press Alt+Tab to get out of the application (or any other way that you know).
3 - Open the Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
4 - In the Task Manager window select Applications tab which shows a list of applications currently running. Right click on your game or application and press G button (or select Go To Process).
5 - As you can see we're now in the Processes tab of the Task Manager and your application's process is selected. Right click on it and select Set Affinity.
6 - Processor Affinity window opens and you can select on which cores you desire your application to run. Select one and press OK.

    II - The permanent method:
Open the Start menu, click on Run, type in msconfig and press OK. In the System Configuration window go to Boot (Start in XP) tab and click on Advanced Options button. There you can see an option for choosing how many cores you want active. Restart your computer.
