No, it's really annoying actually - keeps catching my fingers and it makes me cringe. Just wondering if it's like this on all of them, or if mine was a "friday build"....

Why is does Dell's website lack the 2.1gig model that everyone is talking about?

Apparently, it is coming to the end of the line. Site only configures SU9400 1.4 gig and 2 gigs of memory. Probably what is remaining.

Just got a call from Dell. Pearl is no longer available. Unless I agree to the Onyx, my order will be canceled and there will be no Adamo for me. I decided to give the Onyx a try. Hopefully, the fingerprint issue won't be a cause for return.

From reviews I've read about the Summer refresh of the Adamo, it can't display 1080p HD but it can stream 720p just fine. Battery life has been around 4 hours.

It's hard to tell though what the battery life will be with this new 2.1Ghz processor.

Amazon.com: Black Generic Leather Laptop Sleeve Envelop Case fit Apple MacBook 13" and 13 - 14 inch Notebook Computer: Electronics

this is very nice quality product. it might seem a small at first, but literally squeeze in your adamo as much as you can and wait one day and it will fit 100% to the depth and width. the fabric/leather will stretch a bit. like it will be literally perfect fit that there will be barely a millimeter of empty space.

it wont erase ALL of fingerprints, but it does help enough. i high recommend this.

its only like 15 bucks too

Do you really want a windows coa sticker on your beautiful machine? No way!
Battery level can be seen with the battery icon in the system tray. Glad you are impressed with the performance. Is your machine a Pearl or Onyx?

    it's a white pearl.
yes i know about the tray icon. i was thinking about when the lid is closed, because the white led does not go off when the battery is fully charged.
btw i just found a setting that disables the battery charging when plugged in.
that's cool because you save battery life in the long run.
i will take the bottom off tomorrow and see if the coa sticker is there.
    thanks for the info.
btw i've just put ubuntu on it and i am amazed how fast it runs :)

Have you noticed the keyboard flex that others have mentioned with the Pearl? I'm a bit confused about the battery charging. If you don't want the battery to charge when plugged in, why do you need a setting, wouldn't you just not plug in at all? Good luck on your quest for the coa sticker. Let us know how it turns out.

there is a litle bit of flex in the center of the keyboard but it is normal as with all slim backlit keyboards i've seen so far but that is hardly noticeable unless you have very heavy hands.
also the lcd back cover is not a fingerprint magnet. you can hardly see the fingerprints and that is only when using the laptop in bright natural light.

that setting stops the battery from charging when plugged in. it's like taking the battery out and using the laptop plugged in. it saves battery charge/discharge cycles which as we all know are limited to a certain number and when you reach that number you'll have to replace the battery.

have you guys found a good bag for this baby?
    thanks

How has performance been? What have you done with the notebook so far? Just browsing or have you done some music playback and video streaming?

Also how long has the battery lasted for you (like tell us how long it took for the battery to reach 50%).

well i only have it for a week and didn't have much time to use it (working too much) but i think last time i've used it the battery held for about 2.5 hours (maybe less) of streaming videos on youtube, browsing the net, installing/uninstalling progs, switching between win and ubuntu, etc. i will try some games this weekend and see how it goes. probably not very well but just for fun :)
720p videos play very well, no clicks, no delays.

also i have noticed something odd. i went on dells website and typed my service tag but it couldn't find my machine. i just got that brown box image with dell written on it but nothing else. i wonder why

My initial order for the Pearl at $680 has been changed to the Onyx (Dell callled and said that only Onyx was available and if I didn't want it the order would be cancelled). I agreed to the Onyx and as of today the original order was cancelled and a new order placed with a new order and customer order and a new estimated delivery date of 1/19.

Its under the little panel on top of the hinge...like where the charging light is. It is held on by magnets...just get something thin and plastic an lift up.

thanks c#ad. it is on the back of that panel indeed.
ok so to disable the charging you have to do like this:
    - click on the battery icon in systray and go to more power options
    - in the window that opens go to dell battery meter
    - so now you have the option to enable extended battery life or in the battery life tab you can disable battery charging
if you don't have the dell battery meter option in the power options window then maybe your battery doesn't have those features.
i've got 3.6hrs of web surfing today :) but no video or audio streaming

Here's an update on my Onyx Adamo which I've had for about 2 weeks now.

1)SSD HD is flippin' fast, I'll never go back
2)I get about 2.5-3 hours of battery life when I'm browsing the Internet (lowest brightness)
3)When I run my Zune software, which I don't think is very demanding, the fan runs at full blast. This did not happen in my old C2D laptop.
4)I make more mistakes typing with this keyboard design than my old laptop.
5)I don't think fingerprints are a big issue with the Onyx

In addition, I still have the occasional problem where I'll pull the adamo out of the bag, open the lid, and the computer will start automatically without me turning the computer on. This occurs after I have completely shut the computer down & I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software issue (I'm leaning towards hardware). Can anyone shed anymore light on this issue?

i doubt it's a software problem unless you're really not shutting down the computer. A couple of times I have clicked the windows icon, then clicked 'Shut Down', but closed the lid too quickly before the computer could shutoff, which put it into sleep mode, which meant when I later opened the lid, the computer started back up. If that isn't the case for you, and this turning on/off thing is sporadic and random, I think you may have a loose physical connection with your power button. I would seriously consider calling Dell for an exchange.

I have 2 Onyx Adamo 13's. The one purchased August 2010 (1.4GHz) indeed has a rougher palmrest area than the one purchased Deceber 2010 (2.1GHz). It doesn't bother me though. Didn't even notice it until you told me. BTW, the one from December 2010 has a different touchpad as well, it has a engraved circular design.

Does the new touchpad design feature any additional function in terms of mutitouch? Can you check the Synaptics settings?

Hopefully it's got 2 and 3 finger gestures.

Thanks! Thats funny, because my 2.1 is the rough one. Must just be luck of the draw.

Not sure what the "new" one is - mine is circular and it does indeed have multitouch (2 finger scrolling, and I believe pinch to zoom)

Dell Adamo now even cheaper, slightly less powerful -- Engadget

Dell Adamo now even cheaper, slightly less powerful
By Christopher Trout posted Jan 15th 2011
It looks like Dell isn't quite sure what to do with Adamo. First, the MacBook Air competitor was bumped from Dell's marketing roster, then it was reduced from $999 to $899, and now it's got a price tag of $799. Unfortunately, the price isn't all Dell is slashing: last October the Adamo was sporting a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo SL9600 processor and 4GB of DDR3-800 memory, now we're told it's functioning on a 1.4GHz Core Duo 2 SU9400 and 2GB of DDR3-800 (with no upgrade option that we can find). Everything else is basically the same for the little guy, and Dell's Adamo page still offers the suggestion, "Prepare to Fall in Love," but we're not entirely sure we're the ones who need convincing.

Do you know where I could buy an AC power adapter for the Dell Adamo XPS? Not the 13 version, but the discontinued one that was really thin.

This is how it looks like:

Dell Original AC Power Adapter For Adamo XPS, P02S Series Notebook Laptop Computers

But it is out of stock everywhere, and Dell no longer carries it. Delta Electronics used to make it, but I don't think they carry it anymore.

Does anyone have one to sell me, or know of where I could buy one?
    Thanks for any help.

I recently picked up Adamo and I was wondering what other people with this laptop are going with for an external DVD/CD drive. Main purpose is system backup and emergency recovery and maybe back up DVDs. Anything to watch out for? Any recommendations? eSata or USB?

Just got mine, I don't see the 2 finger scroll in the settings page. All it has is pinch zoom for gestures

Anyone else got 2 finger scroll to work?

EDIT: Okay nevermind, just updating the synaptics driver did it, no more old dell drivers

Gentlemen, after waiting for price to drop I finally purchased my adamo pearl. I must say it is a beauty of a machine but at a cost. Dell has discontinued the adamo line so that means after 1 or 2 years when the battery dies we will most likely not be able to get/purchase a replacement battery and end up with a pretty brick to use as a desktop.

I fear there is no way out of this. Have any of you found a place that sells the battery we need?
