    1. I miss my Adamo.

    2. I got my hands on an Onyx at last not so long ago, and found it actually wouldn't work for me in real life as well as the Pearl after all - It wasn't abused by the owner as far as I could tell, but it looked rather secondhand already.

    3. I have a decent quote on a current Desire.

    Someone stop me....!

Just wanna confirm, for my Serial ATA Controller it shipped with the following driver: Driver Provider: Microsoft / Driver Date: 6/21/2006 / Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385

This is the driver that passes TRIM commands correct?

The X18-m you speak of, is it "microsata" interface? Is it just a circuit board with chips on it as well? Biggest size I see is 80GB, I'd hate to "downgrade" in size!

IIRC all 1.8" SSD's are either microsata or ZIF.

Yes, both the 80GB and 160GB X18-m G2 are microsata and will fit the Adamo.

Does it still need to be removed from the casing, and as I said before, having had the existing drive out the sata connector was "normal" but the power connector had a "pin" preventing me from plugging it in. I have SSD drives in every desktop that I own and none of them have this type of power connector, then again they are all OCZ and are 2.5mm. There is nothing propriatary -this is a normal "micro-sata" connector correct?

Gosh almost 500 bucks seems like a lot to drop on a drive, I realize SSD's are expensive but none of the 4 that I own were this much, is this exisiting drive that's in my Adamo worth anything, I can't seem to find any on eBay, are they selling on this site at all?

Let me repeat myself again, u-sata (microsata) has a different connector on the end for power. It is called a standard. Meaning all u-sata connectors are the same, hence their name - u-sata.

The X18-m is u-sata (which is a standard and is compliant with it) so it will fit.

Yes, you do still have to take the casing off the drive to mount it in the Adamo.

Here's my take on the TRIM issue. If you keep a significant amount of free space on the drive, I'm of the opinion that you won't see much write degredation. I don't know about anyone else of course, but I can't see using a laptop like this for heavy application work. After installing Windows 7 Ultimate, Office 2007 and Mappoint 2010, the 128GB drive is still 80% free.

My Adamo has finally arrived this morning BUT they sent me the wrong one.

I ordered a system w/ 4GB Ram but as some of you have experienced, mine also came with 2GB only. I am wondering how Dell will take care of this issue as both my packing slip and email confirmation state 4GB.

One more thing, how do I check if my SSD is a new version or slow old one? Any comments will de greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Where did you buy yours with 4gb? I'm looking to purchase an adamo, but it seems like all the good deals are gone for now.

Anyone have problems with the bottom plate coming out? The front edge of my bottom plate came out, causing the top part of my laptop, my keyboard, to flex/bend. I got it from the microsoft store when it was on sale for $750. I can still get this fixed with my dell warranty right? I had figured the build quality of the adamo to be better, but i guess not...

Got exactly the same problem with an Adamo Pearl bought at MS Store in January. The bottom aluminum plate started to stick out after two weeks of use, even though I was very gentle with the laptop. Apparently, one of the internal mechanical mounts, which hold the plate, broke. It is a poor quality of the assembly that is responsible for this (you would think that laptops in this prestige category should be of top notch quality, but they are not). I called Dell and was quite surprised when they told me that their "premium" warranty does not cover any mechanical issues, only the software or hardware ones. They suggested to call their out-of-warranty department, which I did. There they wanted to charge me somewhere between 170 and 450 bucks for fixing the problem. I figured it is way too unfair... Had to send the laptop back to MS Store. Luckily, they accepted the return. It was after 14 day period. However, since it is not just I simply did not like the product but it was faulty they allowed me to return it. I guess you should be fine it you are still withing 30-day period since the purchase. After returning the laptop to MS Store I bought an Adamo from Dell directly. This one is doing fine, no problems so far.

P.S. I suspect these newer Adamos from Dell (1.4 GHz) are a bit more mature in terms of hardware than the older ones (1.2GHz) which MS Store was selling. I would not say that I had a lot of issues with the 1.2GHz model, but it did show a me a blue screen of death for 2-3 times for no apparent reason. With the never model I have never had a BSOD once.

I purchased an outlet onyx 1.4, 128gb, and 4gb ram tonight. Now I just hope it's in good condition and has a TRIM enabled ssd.... Atleast I'll finally get to see an adamo in person.

i got one from outlet last week and it had so many scratches on it that I returned it within hours of opening it.... its a beautiful laptop but I cannot stand scratched up gadgets. Its better to order a new one from Dell EPP using the 50$ off coupon and getting it brand new.

Well I hope I have better luck... the outlet seems VERY hit or miss. if it is too bad then I might do the EPP, but EPP has worse specs and less warranty options.

Just wanted to post a quick follow up to some previous posts about SSD's and possibly replacing what came in my Adamo 13 from Microsoft. I ended up ordering a new Intel G2 1.8 SSD drive 80GB. After receiving it yesterday, I had a heck of a time getting it out of the casing as there are no screws holding the outer casing together. I successfully broke it out of the case and opened up the laptop ... this is where I found that the boards are not a "standard" and the screw holes did not line up at all. So after "staring" at it for awhile, I found the best position that I could making sure that the Sata ribbon was not pinched at all. I decided to hold the drive to the case with 4 "spots" of hot glue. After tacking the drive in the spots and verifying that the circuit board was not coming in contact with the lower panel when I put everything back together, I booted the system and loaded Win 7. Anyways, just wanted to post in case anyone else was thinking of the same thing... TRIM is important to me - and now I have it! - just got tired of Dell dragging their feet on a firmware update.

Hi, have you received your Adamo? I ordered 2/15/2010, and already got delayed two times. At the moment, delivery date is 3/15/2010. Please let me know when did you place your order.

There are a few of us in the same boat... I ordered my Adamo Desire on 2/16/2010 with an initial delivery date of 2/26/2010... This date was delayed to 3/5/2010 and again to the most current "delayed" date of 3/12/2010... I don't know what is going on over there at Dell but this situation sort of reminds me of the crap deal with how airlines oversell plane tickets... You know what I mean? The poor traveller buys a ticket shows up at the airport only to find that the flight has been overbooked and is apologized to and offered a later flight... This method is based on greed of course... What shocked me was the brazen attitude over at Dell when I called to ask what the hold-up was, they were very matter-of-fact about the whole, "we're very sorry but those delivery dates are merely estimates and if you can't accept that then please feel free to cancel your order." Oh well, still waiting too...

Thanks for sharing. I was a bit more agressive with them, and they upgraded me to next day shipment, plus $50 coupon against the adamo external dvd. So try and twist their hand too! They appologized to me that because custom I configured this laptop, they don't have it in stock and have problems with their suppliers. What? Configured? There is nothing to configure about the adamo, it is already configured. Anyways, I am not happy, and will be asking them for another $50.

Nice, when I called I was connected to the Dell Customer Care Center in India and they said they didn't have the ability to offer any kind of compensation... Is there a better number to call? Oh, they did try to give me that "custom configuration" line of malarky too and I told them the same thing you said...

No, I also spoke to India call center. Be more persuasive, ask them to speak to a superviser, play the very dissatisfied customer. At first they oferd me $25, and I laughed, told them $25 is not even worth my time... Try again.

    Hi!

I ordered one 21/02/2010, was expecting it 03/03/2010, but it got delayed till 03/15/2010. I got a really nice mail from a girl in tech support saying the powercord is backordered. I did get a free overnight shipping. Did not bother (yet) to ask for some upgrades :).

Wow - I was afraid there wouldn't be a 'standard' mounting for these bare-board models. I think I'll stick with the existing SSD and see which happens first -drive slows to a crawl or Dell provides new firmware. :(

Here's something I just ran across with my Adamo 13 using a Bluetooth stereo headset. The Broadcom BT driver that is listed in the Dell support section for the Adamo 13 (6.2.0.9600) is buggy (and out of date). You can hunt around the Dell site and find a newer one if you run into this issue:

Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module (ignore the module type)

    Release Date: 12/15/2009
    Version: 6.2.1.100, A04-1

That was a bizarre one. I was briefly tempted when it came out over here, but the department store exclusive in the UK put me off buying it, and the battery, although removable, seems too compromised.

Bearing in mind no new teasing, I guess this might be it for the Adamo. Should I re-buy (the latest spec) Desire while I can? The SL CPU is not a bad tradeoff, if runtime isn't seriously affected in normal use.

I knew about the Adamo XPS being discontinued, and I can't say that I'm surprised based on the design which I thought was very risky for Dell... However, in regards to the Adamo 13, I would be shocked if this model was on its way out too... Especially when it appears that the new Latitude 13 shares so much commonality with the Adamo 13 from a design aspect which would indicate the ability to be cross-compatible with the higher end Adamo 13... Now I'm no genius but it appears at least to me that the Adamo 13 design is working out at least enough for Dell to emulate the design in its new Latitude 13... I'm sure that decision was based heavily on sales of the Adamo 13... If you agree with my logic on this then I would surmise that the Adamo 13 led not only to the creation of the Latitude 13 but ultimately to the downfall of the Adamo XPS...

The Latitude 13 is actually based on the Vostro V13 (which is the Adamo 13 dressed in "business casual")! The V13 starts at $449 (Linux/Celeron 743) and $669 gets a dual-core (SU7300) with Windows 7, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 320GB 7200rpm hard drive! The Latitude 13 can top $1000 with SU7300 and 64GB SSD so it's priced near the Adamo 13 entry level, but the Vostro V13 is a STEAL!

The Adamo XPS was an amazing design, but it was based on what is now an obsolete Intel platform (GS45 chipset, C2D SU9400 ULV processor). The newer Core i7-640UM and the overall superior technology and performance of the new Intel ULV platform is the only way to justify the high price of entry!

Thank you for that input... So would you then agree that it would be unlikely that the Adamo 13 would be in jeopordy of being discontinued like the Adamo XPS as was suggested by another member of this forum?

I got a call from the Dell Customer Care Center and they assure me that "as of right now" my estimated delivery date is 3/12/2010. They're still saying the delay is based on awaiting the power cord to come in. I'm sure that it'll be further delayed again but if they stay true to form they will wait to the delivery date to tell me... I know Dell is a large international company and all but it is hard for me to understand how they can't semi-accurately seem to be able to forecast this issue by now...

I ordered mine Adamo 13 2GB on 2/10 along with 2 Vostro 13's. I got the Vostros shipped to my door within 40 hours. My Adamo has been delayed 3 times, with a new ship date of 3/15. I have called Dell 3 times and each time they just blew me off and said to wait. I am leaving on the 18th for business in San Diego and Vegas and would really like to have my Adamo and get it set up so I can use it.

If it isnt shipped and arrived by the 17th I dont care what happens I am going to return it... This is my first conflict/delay with Dell... In the past 4-6 years we have spent 250k with Dell which isnt a ton but I would think the communication and order priority better handled.

Understand your frustration. Since the Adamo that was ordered for me is a replacement (which I have been waiting on for ~20 days now), I've been escalated to Dell Executive Service (whatever that means) and THEY can't even tell me even a ballpark ship date for it.

Keep us posted if you get a ship!

    I got this message today.

"I have received a notification from our processing team declining my request to prioritize the order, as there is a part that is not available as of the moment, and that is the power cord. The estimated date of availability given to me is close of business hours of March 10th. Also, the estimated delivery is still March 15h.

I will continue to monitor the status of the order and will keep you posted of any developments in due course.

Thank you for choosing Dell! "

nothing like being 25+ days late with only an estimate to tell me. garbage

I haven't heard of anyone who had success in that endeavor. Don't let that stop you from calling them however. The story I read is that even though Samsung delivered Dell TRIM-enabled firmware last year, they haven't yet incorporated it in any of their SSD-enabled product (Adamo, Alienware).

If you find out anything, please report back here.

Another question... Should the outlet adamo's include the same accessories as the new adamos? I assumed it would come with all the same, but I didn't get the display port to dvi adapter or the black adamo cloth. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have them at the same time.

Condition wise, I think it's excellent. I haven't found any scratches or marks that didn't wipe off very quickly. Everything seems to work fine. Only complaints are no TRIM and no accessories. Literally it was a box with the laptop, power adapter, and a mini manual that doesn't tell you anything. Of course I'd rather have the laptop be in good condition than have a cool box and accessories I probably won't use.

Overall I'm pretty happy. This is my first Dell, and I plan to contact support about the harddrive, if only just to see how competent they are.

Since the elusive power adapters are now supposedly in, did anyone get any movement (boxing, ship, etc.)?

I don't think that quote is an indicator that the power adapters are in... What else are you basing this on? Today I went from delivery of 3/12/2010 to 3/19/2010... For me, Dell's still consistent on their delays... not to mention the awesomeness of their "wait-to-the-last-minute" to notify you that your stuff won't be on time... Now I feel pretty darn confident that they knew it wouldn't be delivered by the estimated date but they continue on this path of cruelty.

That's weird. My estimate is 03/17/2010.

When I login to my profile, I see status "shipped". When I click on order details, the status in not shipped + no tracking number + no email notification. Great!

    Gents,

I don't know why you all are having problems... I ordered mine on the 3rd and got it the tenth? It's the 1.4Ghz/2GB model and I only paid $850 bucks with coupons and EPP! Seriously, for $850 it's the best computer around. I absolutely love it. It's fast, plays great video, absolutely quite, VERY good build quality and the SSD is just the best. Really, I can't believe this is a Dell...

I hope you all get yours soon. You all must have ordered the 2.1Ghz/4GB model?

    Cheers!
