Well I actually talked to the rep online and he told me that the link above is neither a refurbished nor a outlet product. It is a promotion system which is not directly avaiable from the official Dell website. So I guess they are building a new laptop with new order and hard drive will be also new. I am just afraid that mine will also come with 2gb like yours. Dell SB no longer has SSD 256gb, they have dropped it down to 128gb. So the above link is the best deal we could find.

PS> How long did you guys wait for the Adamo to be shipped? I placed an order on 2/15 Monday morning, updated to in-production on Tuesday. Is the in-production time long? I am just dying to receive it :)

I ordered the Desire version from EPP on 2/03, it was shipped on 2/10 and delivered the following day.

No, it is definitely not a slow machine. I am using the Desire to replace a 1 year old Latitude E6400 with a 2.93GHz CPU, 4GB RAM and Vertex SSD drive and so far I am not noticing much difference in speed. W7 does give the T9800 processor a WEI of 6.5, but I don't think the SL9600 is by any means slow.

I'm in the same boat. I ordered the Desire on 2/16 Tuesday morning, and my ship date is estimated to be 2/26. We'll see how that turns out.

Agree. I just got my Adamo (1.4GHz, 2GB, 128GB SSD) and it's quite speedy with W7. The SSD did, however, not contain the latest firmware and thus doesn't support TRIM. I'm guessing that some of these (from Dell) are shipping from stock. Mine shipped from Tennessee to Atlanta subburb and then to me.

A SSD drive without TRIM might eventually become a problem. I would give Dell a call to see if they can send you a replacement drive. If that is not possible, I would suggest that you google the "Tony Trim" method. It requires the use of Perfect Disk 10 and AS Clean. I have to do this on my desktop because RAIDed SSD drives does not support GC or Trim, so I have to do it manually and it works.

You can safely put an X18-m G2 in it. Just have to unscrew the casing is all.

Oh, and the drives are 1.8" in these, NOT 2.5"

Actually, RAID'd drives will let GC run if the drives themselves support it.

TRIM will not function as you correctly stated.

I just bought a Dell Adamo from the outlet and the hard drive says 256GB Mobility Solid State Drive, 2.5MM.
Does that mean it has the enclosure? Or is this just going to be the bare drive (circuit board only)? I was hoping to take out the SSD and use it in a different computer and sell the adamo as parts.

Sam's Club lists a pearl Adamo for sale on their Web site. Next week I'm going to stop in one and see if they stock it for show.

Never saw one in Best Buy.

I'll see if Dell will exchange the drive but comments from others who have contacted them suggest they won't exchange any drive that hasn't outright failed (and they want a Dell diagnostic failure error code). Also, since the Adamo is sold with "in-house" support, I suspect it isn't eligible for a parts exchange (i.e., customer repair). I'd bet most of the front-line Dell "techs" wouldn't even know what TRIM was, or for that matter, what firmware versions their SSS's are available with.

I'd be happy to hear reports to the contrary of course.

Forgive me if this has been covered but can anybody confirm the firmware version of the Samsung 256 GB SSD that ships with the current (refreshed) Adamo Desire? Also, is it the TRIM-enabled version?

    Thanks.

Samsung SSD comes with VBM19D1Q firmware - which seems like (from CrystalDiskInfo) it does not support TRIM.
The older version of firmware does support TRIM - and it is available here:
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/products/flash/ssd/2008/business/business.html
But I guess there is a reason why they removed TRIM in this firmware - and maybe it would be better to wait for newer version of firmware.

I got my Adamo Onyx on February 10th. Like it a lot.
I found a link through BING, that had 4GB RAM configuration for the same $999 price. But when it arrived it had only 2GB RAM. So will have to call Dell on Monday...

AWESOME!!! Thanks! Is that SSD in the 2.5" or 1.8" form factor? I believe I read that it's a naked drive with the cover off and just the circuit board but I can't seem to confirm which size it is...

    Hi guys!

What's the state of laptops from the Outlet? New, used?

Also, I see that all 1.4 Ghz with 4Gb ram have Windows Vista and 128gb SSD. Does this mean that it's the old ssd with no trim?

Because all other W7 samples have only 2 GB of ram.

We can get a new one for 899 but only with 2 GB of ram. And upgrade is impossble.

The refurbished one is 806 + tax = approx. $890.. so 40 bucks difference old vs. new but old has 4 GB, new has 2 GB ..grrrrr

    What do you suggest?

You may order a brand new Adamo with CPU 1.4 / Ram 4gb from the following link.

    http://computers.pricegrabber.com/l...69.html/search=dell+adamo/st=product/sv=title

Some say Dell still shipps the laptops w/ 2gb even if you purchased from the link but I am sure Dell will take care of such issue as long as your order statement says 4GB.

The "problem" is that on this link you can't get a $100 EPP discount and $50 special discount. $150 for extra 2GB is simply ridiculous. :)

Just make sure you guys uninstall the Intel AHCI driver and use the generic MS driver included with Windows.

The Intel driver won't pass TRIM commands even though the drive supports it.

Those in the UK with any info:

Do you know if the Adamo XPS is due to be sold by Dell anytime soon? I much prefer to buy a Dell direct due to the discounts I'd undoubtedly get. For a machine that's undoubtedly sexy but heavier than most ultraportables of the same class I don't really feel like paying John Lewis two grand with a three-year warranty.

Yeah - I would be all over an enlarged, and slightly differently made (since making a 16/17-inch-class machine with the same method would take it closer to 3Kgs even if all it had was the Z600 innards) Adamo case with the Z600 innards and a 1920 screen.

As someone who speaks Italian, I can clarify:

    "Ah - dah - mo"

Also, I took the time to read this whole owner thread, and very rarely saw specifics about the battery.

I opted for the admire version under the assumption the difference in thermal draw between the SU9400 and SL9600 (7w TDP) would wreak havoc on already unspectacular battery life.

Can anyone comment on this? You have to assume the admire spec will get better battery life, which to me is more important than a much faster processor in this system.

LOL - sounds like a sweet machine! :D yeah, weight wouldnt be that much of an issue as long as it didnt balloon to like 8-9 pounds like my current hp dv7t. a nice 5.5 pound (or less) machine with a 17" screen would be nice. just like the adamo - no dvd/blu-ray drive, no need for a high end gfx card. i think one of the most impressive things about the adamo is the pricepoint.

Sorry to jump in here guys, I just picked up one of these systems through the Microsoft deal and I really like the system, it's stylish, small, and the screen is beautiful... I have switched all of my desktop HD's to SSD's and love it, however, I'm a little "confused" by this system... from what I gather and from what Crystal Disk tells me this Adamo (128GB Samsung SSD) has a dell specific firmware and the firmware (not the drive itself) does not support GC nor TRIM. This worries me a bit, I pulled the drive out of the system in an attempt to flash it with the Samsung firmware but after getting it out and attempting to put it into my desktop the connector on the board itself has a normal sata drive connection, but the power has a "pin" preventing me from plugging in the proper power... so my question is - is everyone just "waiting" on Dell to release a proper firmware to address this issue for Adamo owners? I've went through page after page of this thread and the Alienware thread... is this what we are stuck with? I am assuming the only way to get a replacement drive for the Adamo is to have a tech out to the house since nothing inside of this system is technically serviceable by the owner...

You can't just hook up a micro sata drive to your desktop. Power is completely different and so is the connector.

Using the M$ driver is for the newer PB22-JS3's that come with the Adamo as they are TRIM enabled.

If the drive itself won't support the TRIM command, then the driver doesn't really matter.

Sorry, but it is going to be very difficult to update the fw since it is dell branded.

Check out this thread for info. It might be possible so give it a go.

If I were you guys, I'd just buy an X18-m G2 and be done with it ;) Just take the casing off and pop it in just like the samsung.
Sell the Sammy on fleabay or here in the marketplace.

My Adamo Desire from Dell EPP was originally scheduled to be delivered on the 26th (tomorrow) and I got a call from Dell telling me that it is delayed for an undetermined amount of time...

Let me know if yours ships on time.

Oh, quick question, in theory, can you take any 2.5" SSD and remove the casing and install?

It's basically the same drive, just 1.8" and microsata.

I believe if you search hard enough you can find a microsata-->sata cable to hook it to your desktop.
