3 Hours on the phone? Maybe Sleey0 should have called for you!
I got the same line from them when I got a replacement for the mangled Adamo they sent me. Keep on them about it. Not much to upgrade to, since there are a bevy of 1.4Ghz/128GB Adamo's, and you have a 256GB!
Good luck!
-
Yeah I got disconnected and they finally sent me to the Adamo service people after the Adamo service told me to contact sales lol
Yeah not much to upgrade to unless they send me one of the old desire models but considering I have the 256gb in Pearl which seems like a small population, they have to match or exceed that so it leaves options limited haha -
Hey guys, I just ordered an Adamo Desire 1.4/4G/256 SSD from the Dell Outlet. I've been watching the Adamo for the past month and was torn between buying a new 2.1 Desire or getting a 1.4 refurbed. Once the outlet started offering the 256SSD on the desires, I had my mind made up for me. I'm buying it mainly for looks, the metal construction and portability; not really a 'power pc' or gaming person, so the specs suit me fine.
I'm an expat in Beijing, and a friend is going to be bringing the lappy back with her from the States next week. When I went through the order confirmation email, I noticed:
1 W615M Module,Adapter,45W,US ONLY Silver/white,ADAMO
US only? Do they actually still make power bricks with non-international standards? I don't mind if the physical plug is US only, but I'm concerned whether the adapter is built for 220V power sources. I'd appreciate it if you guys could check the power labels on your bricks and let me know if they are 110-220V or indeed only 110V. Thanks. -
@corteen
This is the closest thing you're going to get to a service manual:
http://content.zdnet.com/2346-9595_22-287411-1.html
I would highly recommend archiving the pages and disassembly guides in case you want to use them in the future.
@T.K
I just checked my Adamo's power adapter, and its definitely international (100V-240V AC). No manufacturer would be crazy enough to drop international charging comparability from their laptops. -
Could someone run "error scan" on HD Tune version 2.55 and tell me if their drive gets an error? or has damaged blocks? Im testing it on a new Desire with a samsung 256GB ssd and im getting errors each time i run it. Just wondering if i need to return my unit.
-
Wonder why there isn't a real service manual for the Adamo 13? -
Are the system specs listed on the retail box?
-
@DJ GLO
Care to comment about the battery life you get on your new adamo?
Is the cooling system more efficient?, e.g. are the fans constantly on?, loud?
Thanks -
Could you guys play this YouTube video in HD and tell me how smooth it plays? Also what's the average CPU usage?

Hi,
Has someone resolved ambient light sensors problem under W7 ?
Under Vista I had both (screen and keyboard) working. OFC it was difficult to set them on (tool for that is hidden in the quickset directory and not shown in the windows orb menu (saying "start" menu)).
Now in the W7 even after keyboard driver installed, I can't see any ALS and especially nowhere switch for them working (and dissapeared from screen graphics as well). Screen is not acting for external light conditions, previously it worked.
Quickset is not showing options for ALS anymore, and in the Quickset directory I have only BacklitKB.exe tool which is for nothing (under vista it has ALS switch, now it dissapeared).
Dell, wakeup, we're waiting for full drivers...
How's with yours ?

I just ran Hulu on HD settings and I had no stuttering whatsoever so not sure why your performance is so low lancorp, did you have it plugged in? (I did)
Also I just had a crazy idea, has anyone tried swapping out their pearl keyboard for an onyx one? Does anyone know if this would be very difficult to do? I think the onyx keyboard would go nicely with the black lcd border and they seem to run about 40ish on ebay. -
RE: keyboard...as I've said before, that onyx keyboard is real hard to see the lettering...personally, I like the silver keyboard and the overall look to the unit.
I have both an ONYX and a PEARL...maybe I'll try switching and take a picture and post it here! -
Yeah full screen on HD is what I used, oddly enough without the backlight on I have a hard time seeing the silver keyboard in class sometimes :/

FYI - Currently, you can get 20% cash back if you order your Adamo through the Bing cash back offer.
-
Just got the Adamo.
Sometimes the screen looks like it flickers, anyone know why? -
Anyway, nobody knows how to switch on light sensors under W7 ? (as described there are two, for screen and for keyboard - this second I never found).

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give their opinions on the loudness of the metal keyboard when typing... I want to be able to use this next to my sleeping wife but i don't want the keyboard click sounds to bother her at night...

So I've been using my new Adamo Desire for about a week now and to me it feels quite peppy. The hard drive feels fast, no complaints about the new Intel Core 2 Duo SL9600, and it appears they also upgraded the Ram to 1066MHz DDR3 in place of the 800MHz. All in all I've been very pleased with the performance out of such a tiny and suave package.
Windows Index scores:
Processor: 5.7
Memory: 5.8
Graphics: 4.1
Gaming graphics: 3.5
Primary Hard Disk: 7.3 -

Hey all...i just got my tumi sleeve...anybody know if that works for tsa so I don't have to take it out of the sleeve when it goes through security?
-
Woohoo so I got an update with my notebook exchange...
Since I was having problems with my Adamo from the outlet, they approved me for an exchange and I looked at my status and I will be receiving and new admire model, which means they upgraded my cpu and they tossed me in office professional for some reason -
ok, after 3 M15x's ima give this a go.
just ordered an onyx desire. lets see how this one goes -
Hi all, to the people who have the adamo, can you tell me when your charging it and its closed is there any status light that is charging ? Also is the built quality top notch this time around from Dell ? I have the Air now but im thinking of getting the adamo since i just cant get use to OSX...
-
There is one small white LED that is on when charging (it is located on the magnetic clip in the back where the little holes are and you can only see it when it's lit. It's pretty slick).
Also, the build quality is top-notch. Early reports upon launch were not so favorable but I can assure you that it is built extremely well and those issues have been addressed. -
thanks for the replay, now i just need to finalize my decision, should i got for the adamo and ditch the MB air
The adamo xps is nice but looks like it will be hard to use on the lap -
Yeah, I could have gotten the XPS for ~$1600 shipped with my discounts.
I am going back to the base model Onyx and save about $400 Same specs aside from the memory (2GB vs 4GB). -
what made you change your mind ?
Does 4 gb make a big difference at all ? -
While the XPS looks cool and all, it just doesn't seem practical for me. I saw a hands-on at Engadget and I really think it seems flimsy.
The original Adamo is rock solid and just looks nicer, IMO. It also has a nice heft to it I returned my Adamo a month ago and I regret it and placed a new order last week. I was going to go with a SXPS 1645, but with all the throttling issues I am staying away from it for now.
RE: RAM, for what you can do with the Adamo (limited to web, office, etc) the difference in RAM will make zero difference. -
does the adamo have any sort of latch or magnet latch ?
Also how thin is it to you ? i seen pics and reviews but im looking for someone in the real world that has one lol.... and last what color should i get ? the pearl is nice is it all aluminum or is there any plastic feel to it ?
Thanksss -
That Adamo just closes and there are small magnets underneath the palmrest that keep it closed pretty good. The hinges are stiff and should hold up over time.
The Adamo is VERY thin. It is the thinnest lappy next to the XPS and Air.
I had both the Pearl and Onyx and to me the black just looked more slick. The Pearl has a nice etched pattern on the back and over the entire underside, but the keyboard area contrasted really bad with the large black border of the screen. The only issue with the Onyx is the fingerprints - it's really bad. So if you have OCD than you may want the Pearl as it doesn't show fingerprints.
And, yes, the entire system is made from high quality aluminum. The lid has a plastic inlay (Dell says it's glass but it doesn't feel like it to me). Still nice stuff though.
Oh, and I have a brand new Pearl external DVD drive that I need to get rid of so don't buy it from Dell (if you get the Pearl). I'll make you a really good deal if you want it! -
sounds good, i should know for sure this weekend if i get someone to buy my air than i may make a offer for that drive.
-
does anyone have a coupon that would work with the Adamo ? if you can share please PM me .. thanks
-
www.dell.com/epp should be your best bet.
-
I've had my 2.1Ghz Desire for about 2 weeks now.
Pros
Super sexy
Faster than I expected (was expecting netbook type performance)
Feels very sturdy
Cons
Some flex on the keyboard and backpanel
Backlit keyboard looks a bit uneven
Doesn't look thinner than the MBA
What surprised me was how heavy the thing is, but I guess that adds to the strudiness feel. -
Thanks for the comments, tissot!
Yeah, the heft to the Adamo is decieving, for sure. lol
I like that though and it feels rock-solid. -
you would think these would ship faster as they dont allow any changes. its one or the other. mines been in "pre-production" for 2 days now as the 3 M15x's were either building or boxing by now...i hate waiting.
-
That's odd.
Mine was in Pre-Production for 1 day. The other Adamo's I ordered a couple months back were the same (Pre-Pro for 1 day).
The 1645 I had on order was stuck in Pre-Pro for 2 days before I cancelled. You know this is the busiest time of year for all these companies so patience -
I am also wondering what takes them so long to get this shipped since the adamo service rep said my replacement was supposed to ship yesterday but still no updates but oh well they have me set to next day business shipping so I can't complain. -
I can only imagine how many orders are going thru right now.
Glad I don't work in retail this time of year! lol -
and it shouldn't take any time at all for an adamo to ship. the only options are expensive and MORE expensive. we know they are already built, packaged and ready to go -
Actually, they are not already built.
Systems are only assembled when orders are placed. Dell does not carry inventory. For systems that have options, Dell does carry a 7 day supply of inventory (parts), but that's it. -
umm...brb... -
LOL!
Yeah, I know that feeling. My F5 key is beggining to wear out -
Yeah I know, not sure if there is any carrier that ships on Sat or Sunday but its okay I can just keep playing with the one I have for now -
Well, the one advantage of getting the 5-7 day deliver is that Dell uses Fedex Home - which delivers from Tues-Sat.
It's a crap shoot, really. -
On a side note... Dell sent me a letter in the mail saying I could upgrade me 1 year warranty to 3 extra years for 369 or something with a $75 gift card or 2 years and a $50 gift card...
do they do this often or should I go ahead and bite?
