Ordered Inspiron 6400 on Thurs 29th March, been shipped already, awaiting phonecall to arrange exact delivery date
Edit: Just got the call, being delivered AM tomorrow That's a 2 business day turn around, quality! -
New to the forum.. good resource for laptop research.. and also a good Dell following here.
I ordered my I6400 on Mar. 23 and I'm still waiting. Checked the Dell order web site and said it's in pre-production. Said it's supposed to be shipped on April 9th. The wait is killing me!
Metfan, I ordered almost similar setup as yours.. with a few exceptions as listed in my sig.
flab, you're lucky you're getting your laptop so fast. -
hehe, arrived this morning, loving it
-
Hi,
I'm currently waiting (impatiently! ) for my Inspiron 6400, with the following spec:
T5200 1.6ghz Core 2 Duo processor
1GB RAM
ATi Mobility Radeon X1400
160GB HDD
15.4" UltraSharp WXGA+ (1440 x 900) glossy screen
It should be arriving today ... and the delivery status website says it's en route ... so the wait can't be too much longer ... ... ...
Come on, delivery van, come on!! -
Sigh ... my goading didn't make the delivery van arrive any quicker. In fact it didn't turn up at all! Oh well. I'll have to ring the delivery company tomorrow to find out what happened.
Dell_6400_fan, I hope your Inspiron arrives soon - I know the wait can be agonising! If it helps, mine was ordered on the 27th and shipped on the 31st, but the order status still read as pre-production up until the 31st, when suddenly lots of ticks magically appeared! -

Just got it today but the fan is making LOUD ticking sound. Called dell and tried different hardware checks, they think its a faulty hard drive. They are sending me a new HD with all the software installed. They said i just need to swap them out. Customer service is even going to knock off $168.00 off the price and credit my credit card. We shall see how it turns out. Other than that, Very nice laptop. -
after i put my order in on sat night, just an acknolegement showed up. waited until yesterday and customer care keep sending me to different people, they decided the order was not put in. After 3 hours, they suggested i put order in again thru phone sales, they transferred me and the sales person checked and assured me no order in the sustem He reconstructed my order, but would not budge on price even after all the hassles i had from cust care. put order in.this morning i have 2 orders being built!!!!!!!!! After another hour of calls they cancelled 1 order, now i am waiting for my credit card to be credited!!!hopefully this will be only problem!!
-
Did the same thing with an Inspiron 6400... the 6400 was cheaper thru Dell Business so I just used my work name with my address. They didn't seem to care... Saved about $100 over buying the e1505, which is the same notebook, only sold for the "home" market.
-
Has been using I6400 for a few months now and i must say i'm very happy with it.. very silent and don't gimme any problems at all.. glad to join the dell family
-
magenta, thanks .. that's exactly what happened to me..i just got an update from dell's order site saying that it's been shipped on April 2nd and should arrive today.. i've been keeping tabs on the Purolator site but no change in status as of yet. I'm guessing still in transit in the US. The anticipation is killing me.. heh.
ccmass, too bad to hear you got a faulty HDD out of the box but good thing they are sending you a new one asap with s/w and possible $168 credit. It's easy to swap the HDDs out, usually just a couple of screws on the bottom of one side, pull out the plastic and you have access to the HDD.
Metfan, sorry to hear you had so many troubles in the ordering process. That's why I prefer ordering things online where I can see exactly what I'm getting and how much it will cost me. I find that talking to people over the phone can cause mistakes or delays, I'm not in the mood for those kind of issues especially when ordering an item worth around $2k (CDN). I'm sure they will clear it up and you should have your Dell soon. -
Got my new E1505 yesterday with the following SPECS:

My question is, did everyone who got the new DELL is made in Malaysia?? Mine is made in Malaysia...This is my first Dell laptop, I am worry with the durability? I also notice the workmanship is not as I good as I expected with Dell laptop...... -
My e1705 is finally on its way to me, I should get it tomorrow! Hey kids we're having pizza mom is too busy to fix dinner.
-

2048MB RAM
512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX (free upgrade)
160GB Hard Drive 7200rpm
Samsung LCD
Intell Wireless G
Dell Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse

3 Year Next Day Complete Care Warranty.
$2,990 CAD
I went with the Dell Bluetooth keyboard and mouse as it gave me bluetooth (up to 7 devices) for the the cost of the internal bluetooth and I got a keyboard and mouse to boot
First Impressions:
Very solid laptop. Very impressed with it so far. I think it should be able to run all new and future games for a while with these specs?
Backpack that came with the system is very large.
To early for vista yet..dell has some issues out of the box with items not working..a bit of pain to get everything working, even if there are drivers out that you need yet.
I plan on running 3dMark tests on both windows xp and windows vista (clean install) to see the difference..will post them when I am done.
Not sure how virutal machines will run on this platform...if anyone has any comments on that, please chime in 2GB seems like enough..lots of HD space.
Problems:
Dead Pixel(s). It looks like more than one near Center of screen, Called Dell and they are sending out a technican with a new replacement screen with no hassle whats so ever, very friendly and helpfull. Hopefully this one is better.
Light Leakage at the bottom of the samsung screen that everyone talks about is present on this one as well. Other than the light leakeage (minor) the screen is very crisp and clear...text is a little small at the native resolution but readable and clear.
Will post more once I work with it more.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Metamorphical Good computer user
Looks good to me. I'm merging this with the post about your new Dell thread.
Sorry and thank you. -
Here's my Dell that I just purchased yesterday for college:
Inspiron e1505:
- Core 2 Duo (2.00 Ghz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 Mhz FSB)
- WSXGA Screen
- 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 Ram
- 256 MB GeForce 7300 Turbocache
- 120 GB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive
- 8x CD/DVD RW burner
- 2 85 wHR 9-Cell Batter
- Windows Vista Home Premium
- Premium Warranty Bundle (Everything except LoJack)
The warranties added on about $800 USD, and with discounts it came to a total of $1797.80 from the base price (with warranties) of $1499.
What do you think? -
Very dissatisfied with Dell !!, One week after getting my E1505 I still have not recieved my new HD though they did credit my CC $168.00 off the price of the laptop but my NEW laptop is sitting collecting dust. Dell assured me i would have the HD by last friday and it never showed. Called Dell they stated Tuesday 4/10/07 and still no drive. Called them today and told them i wanted to return the laptop for a refund and they state the HD has shipped out over night even though their web site states it is still in production and has not shipped. If it is not here by today 4/11/07 I am returning it no matter what they offer or say. A very terrible experiance with Dell so far. -
Me too got my new Dell! This is what I purchased through Dell.com:
Precision M90
-Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0Ghz
-17" WUXGA+ Screen
-2GB DDR2 667MHz
-60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
-nVidia Quadro FX 2500M 512MB Graphics Card
-CD-ROM
-9-Cell Battery
-Intel A/B/G Network Card
-Windows XP Pro
I got the laptop from Dell "Scratched and Dent" for US $1819, plus $50 discount after talking to the rep. The laptop is really scratched, there's a 1/2 inch scratch mark on the aluminum lid but other than that everything works like a charm. Replaced with a 100GB 5400rpm hard drive and a DVD Burner and it's all ready to go. I used it for several virtual machines to simulate a testing environment network and so far I can open up 3 virtual machines at the same time. Will upgrade to Windows XP x64 later for testing the Exchange Server 2007. I'm so impressed about the quality and very happy about the purchase.
Thanks for sharing!

and probably around $100 in accessories

Just received my Dell ATG - you can easily read the display outdoors. Even with sunlight on the screen. SWEET.
I could care less about the ruggedized stuff, but getting to work outside on my deck is priceless. My outdoor computer up to this point has been a NEC Versa Daylite with reflective screen. Nice in the sun, unusable indoors (OK since I have an HP for indoors). But it has a P3 processor - fine for email, but poor for doing work like programming. Now I have outdoor capability with Core2Duo. I am loving life again. -

dell should send you a email confirming the transactinon. within the email (or a separate one) there should be a link for you to follow up on your system (like if its being built, packaged, shipped). when i does ship, you can use your tacking number that they give you too see your computers status in the mail.
cheers, hoped that helped and wasnt too confusing... -
-
Shouldn't i have got it by now? -
did you order by phone? or from the website?
they didnt give you any number sequences at all for your order? -
-
Just got my M1210. In the 30 day evaluation period, are you allowed to install all the software that came with it? I got Office, on discs.
If I decide I don't like it and return it, does having everything installed cause a problem? -

Picked up a second 640m (first was in Jan, this will be for sis) for 791 tax in. This is in Canada, by the way!
I tried to post this on the night of the 30th, but by the time I was able to, the deal ran out. It was a pricing error, which Dell is now confirmed as honouring.
So, I guess I'm here to shamelessly brag a bit. Sorry, but I *never* run into these "deals of the year".

$1800AUD around 1500USD...dont know if that was good or bad? but it will do what I needed -
Ok, so I just ordered an E1505. Primary purpose is for school, but I do play WoW on occasion. Only question I have is should I call and change the ram to 2GB - 667mhz rather than the 2GB - 533mhz since the processor has the 667mhz FSB?? It would be $50 more...worth the performance difference?
Total cost was $1096.62 after tax. Decent or not? Never purchased a laptop, and my ex has built all of my desktops...
