Got my e1705 yesterday..
Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz @667MHz
2x1024 DDR2 @667MHz
WUXGA TrueLife
GeForce Go 7900 GS 256MB
80GB 7200RPM SATA HD
24x CD-RW/DVD
Dell Bluetooth
Dell Wireless 802.11 b/g
Windows XP Media Center Edition
3-year warranty
So far I'm very happy. The screen is great, no dead pixels. Installed WoW and EVE, both looked great and played fine @1920x1200 with the default settings. I was surprised by the audio, the integrated sub-woofer makes a huge difference. You can actually enjoy music without headphones on this thing. The only cons I have so far are having to remove all the software that comes bundled. Otherwise it is as advertised. Definitely worth the money. Will be getting Vista but will not be installing it since it looks like it just makes your system run slower and what does it add over xp? Nothing worth sacrificing performance for.

Got mine couple days ago, returned an HP dv8333ea week before, probably sturdier and definitely more features but had absolutely no 'wow' factor for me.
Inspiron 9400(refurb £645 incl. shipping) this one's a keeper
17" Truelife - fantastic for movies, very wide horizontal viewing angle but tiny vertical, text a touch on the small side overall I love it
C2D5500,1 GB RAM,X1400 graphics, media center with Vista upgrade booked from dell,80 GB HDD,8xDVDRW,Works 8.5.Etc. etc.
First thing, media center crashes whole system everytime so updated everything & seems to be fine.McAfee trial wants to monitor everything & throw half my valid email away as spam, haven't got rid of it yet though.
Very handy media buttons at the front of the case.
Touchpad does a great job, ditto keyboard feel,no numberpad but i didn't want one.
My first notebook, old DIY noise/power/size beast was the end of the ine for me and desktops especially since I rarely play games now.Loving the quiet and immediate-to-hand/mobility of the laptop. After peripherals I only save on one power and one connecting wire but everything can now be moved & packed up with ease.In it's first week honeymoon period I give it 5/5,when I spill tea & break the flimsy pice o junk next week and support refuse to help I'll change that to 1(hope not)... -
ordered my e1705 over the weekend, the ship date is scheduled for 2/12, I cant wait... got the WUXGA, T7200, 7900gs, DVD Writer, wireless, blue tooth, all the normal stuff.

Got My Dell E1505 This past January. Its awesom and its a great Laptop. My specs are below. And here is a screen shot I just took....

Happily surprised to get my new XPS M1210 yesterday. It's great! Spent far too long reading about different models, agonizing over benchmarks that won't effect me &c &c : ) This replaces the Inspiron 8000 (PIII 900MHz, 512MB RAM, 20GB HD) I got in June 2001 to last 3 years. I8000 was such a nice box it was hard to give up, but left hinge finally gave out, and, although serviceable, was afraid to lug it around (all 10lbs or so) in case the screen fell off! Will miss the nice 15" WUXGA screen.
Ordered M1210 Fri 02 Feb 2007 11:47am, expected delivery Tues 13 Feb 2007, recd. Fri 09 Feb 2007 11:39am. Got a good deal through university, plus coupon, plus signing up for 3-year cusomter care package.
- XPS M1210, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz/667MHz/4MB)
- 12 inch Wide-screen WXGA Display with TrueLife, Camera,WW Ant, Ear Buds
- 2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm for XPS M1210
- 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache, for XPS M1210
- 100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive,for XPS M1210
- Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition English,Inspiron
- Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem, for Inspiron
- 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, for XPS M1210
- Dell Wireless 1500,Minicard US,for XPS M1210
- 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for XPS M1210
- Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR), Vista, for XPS
Didn't need camera, but with broadband wireless rates dropping as they are figured I'd order an EVDO chip in a year or two and wanted the box to be ready (antenna comes in the camera-equiped lid).
Pros:
- Very luggable, feels sturdy and safe, and comfortable on lap if you can finagle way to keep bottom vent uncovered.
- Extremely quiet. Fans almost inaudible and come on rarely. Very quiet HD and DVD (unless you insert disk with paper label, then it sounds like a garbage disposal, not recommended)
- 3.4 Aero score after updating NVIDIA driver. Updated BIOS to A06 just for kicks.
- Everything works great so far.
Not tested yet: Camera, modem, Media Direct, but the latter's pretty blue lights up front are cool.
Cons:
- One of the factory installed drivers for using the DVD burner throws an error every time I re-start (Sonic Solutions DLA driver, part of Roxio Easy Media Creator 9). Roxio's take: ( http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000131CR ). Doesn't seem to effect anything adversely, but is annoying.
- Dell's QuickSet app is listed as incompatible with Vista, but again, no consequence (to me anyway).
- Machine soaked in bloatware, but it's easily removed through the control panel.
- As expressed all over the M1210 forum, the lid really is a fingerprint magnet, sounds dumb until you see it, but the rest looks so cool, it's a letdown. Kind of like the first door ding on a new car feeling. I liked the finish of the black Inspirons, did not show marks. Not so bad I'll experiment with Dell skins though. Am ordering shaggymac for inside, but doesn't look like it will need it.
SuperPi (2M): 1m08s
PCMark05: 4566
3DMark: sad 730. Don't be fooled by "256MB RAM", only ~62MB on board and rest is shared. But the system seems very fast to me, I don't play FEAR or anything requiring high speed 3D rendering. Streamed video over a wireless connection ran full-screen, no dropped frames or audio stutters.
Now I gotta get back to the new baby... -

256mb x1400 video
9 cell battery
Intel pro wireless
Bluetooth module
Charcoal LEather quicksnap
for $1336 pretax and $1406 with tax to NY. PLUS for some reason I got OVERNIGHT shipping- not sure why didn't ask for it, but when I went to check the order status it said overnight and i did get it one day after it shipped out- guess the sales guy hooked it up.
Used a 20% off coupon PLUS the guy gave me another 150 off, just cause I told him I needed to get the price down a little more. THe guy was as helpful as I've ever seen from any company at getting me a good deal.
With a t7200 processor, such a high resolution screen SXGA(which is absolutely perfect looking and very rare on laptops) the 667 2gb memory, and 100gb 7200 hard drive and a 9 cell battery(lasts over 4 hours!!)- there was nothing else I could find that was even CLOSE in price- and I am very good at finding deals online. HP was the closest and they do not offer a SXGA screen, or 7200 hard drives and it STILL will come out over 100 more for a similar config. I know some people complain of build quality by I don't see ANYTHING to complain about- with the quicksnap on top it is even sturdier, and I highly advise getting the Charcoal leather one which was also thrown in for free.
REally couldn't be happier- the machine is AMAZINGLY fast- very impressed and I have used many laptops- I would really advise people to try a configuration like this from Dell if they really want a lil monster machine for a great price....don't forget just explain to the salesguy that you need to get it to a certain price and it can go a long way...Dell is very willing to lower the price when you do it the right way. -

paid 1230ish with 90$ NYS tax from Dell smallbusiness
This thing runs all programs with ease, FEAR, Warhammer DOC, Photoshop 7 etc etc etc. The only thing is the screen is TERRIBLE! I've had the computer for 2 days now and i am completely dissatisfied; you cannot even use it for photo editing bc i cannot tell the difference between noise in a photo or the grainy look of this screen. The brightness sucks--- the screen is too bright in the center and dark all around the edges. there is no good viewing angle, straight on you cannot even get the entire screen to come into proper view. I'm really upset with the screen and am considering sending it back for a model with TFT or something. I honeslty dont know much about screens; the resolution is not the problem (im use to 1280x768) but somehow the quality is just crap. Any insight on this, should i sent back and pay 150$ more for a True Life Display??? will that make a difference?? -

I too took the plunge on a new Dell (E1705) this weekend offered during Dell's President's Day weekend sale. New laptop is replacing my 3 yr old Inspiron 8600 which has given very good service. I originally configured it on-line but price kept fluctuating and I got thrown off several times due to Dell website problems so called Dell sales the next day. They honored lowest price I got on-line. Got a really loaded E1705 for slightly over $1,200 off retail w/max service contract (4 year everything). The only thing I'm worried about is my new setup comes with Vista Home Premium and will have to learn it. From what I've read Vista is stable enough so what the heck. Machine is to be used for gaming, surfing and ANSYS FEA
New system hardware:
T7400 (4MB/2.16GHz/667Mhz)
UltraSharp TrueLife WUXGA
2GB DDR2 @ 667MHz
NVIDIA 7900GS (256MB)
100GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
8x DVD+/-RW Optical drive
"n" wireless card and Bluetooth/ mouse
Extra 9 cell battery and AC Adapter -

Got my e1505 a couple of weeks ago. Over the last 5 years, I've had a Compaq.... piece of junk. 7 Toshibas... all performed or performing flawlessly... A Lenovo 3000 N100.... also a very nice machine. Best bang for the buck I've had, bar none... lots of features. But this e1505 is the best yet, very solid and I can finally play some games with decent performance with the ATI X1400 video card that it has!
Cost a little more but I think it was worth it. I might even keep it for a while. -
Getting a new Dell Inspiron 9400 w/ the following spec's:
Intel Dual Core 2 T7200 (2.0Ghz) processor
2GB RAM
160GB SATA Hard drive
17" WXGA+ Screen
256MB Geforce 7900gs Video Card.
Edit: It now comes to 1799.99 before taxes before it was 1909.00 Canadian (before taxes)
Now I really cannot wait to get it. -
did u pay just over $1200 for this kinda configuration!!!I hope its not typo & could u tell us how u managed to do it.
this should be >$2200 online. -
I ordered my Latitude D420 on Thurs 2/8/07 and it came on Tues 2/20. I would have gotten it on Friday 2/16 but the huge snowstorm over here on the East Coast apparently messed up UPS's shipping, and then Monday was a holiday.
Specs:
-Pentium Core Duo 1.20 GHz
-2.0 GB RAM
-80 GB HDD
-Windows Vista Ultimate
-Built-in Bluetooth and Dell 801.11g
-D-Bay 8X DVD+/-RW
-6-cell (standard) and 9-cell (extended) batteries
Overall I am very happy with the system, although, as I posted in a different thread, there are two minor quality issues. One is that the latch that fastens the computer shut is very loose. You can wiggle it around a lot. This was not the case on my previous computer, a Latitude X200. The other problem is that the right mouse button on the upper set of buttons (for use with the pointing stick) is crooked. It works fine but it looks a little weird, which bothers me.
Other things to note:
At first, I thought the computer was accessing the HDD in a very loud way every time I loaded a new web page. It turns out that is just the noise that IE makes when loading a web page, and since the speaker is down below the keyboard, it sounded like it was coming from the HDD! I was relieved when I found out I could disable the sound and solve that problem.
If you want both batteries with this system, you will save $10 by choosing the 9-cell with the system and adding the 6-cell. If you choose the 6-cell with the system and add the 9-cell it costs $10 more. I don't know why!
As others have said, you can't buy this computer through Dell's consumer channel. I tried both on the phone and by web chat, and got shot down both times. Order it from either the Small or Medium/Large Business site, and just put your own name as the name of the business.
This is a great computer. Vista looks cool and runs pretty fast. I also considered the Fujitsu Q2010, which is a bit thinner and very stylish. I went with the Dell because it has a full-size keyboard, and because the battery that enables the Q2010 to be so small only lasts about 2.5 hrs, which is just too short. With the extended battery, that computer is no smaller than the D420. I also really like how the keyboard on the D420 goes all the way to the edges of the computer's frame. On the Q2010, the keys are less than full size, and then they put in an extra column of keys on the left of the keyboard... Plus they keyboard doesn't even go all the way to the edge of the computer! Why waste all that space that could be used for a bigger keyboard!
If you are considering buying this system, feel free to ask me questions. I highly recommend it so far. -
By the way..does anyone remember me? I haven't been on this forum in months -
I got a new Inspiron 9400 (Canadian version of 1705) with slightly lower specs than yours. I was nervous to learn Vista. had a few bugs to work out. All fixed now and I love Vista! You'll catch on quickly. There are lots of neat tools and eye candy.
Enjoy and have fun! -

I just got my xps 1210 yesterday! It came to me several days before dell even told me they would ship it, let alone when it would be delivered. Thus far it's a spectacular notebook - the best I've ever used. I'm going to use it for a week or two (to get used to it, etc.) and then put up a review of it.
I ended up getting the 1210 with following specs:
C2D 2.0 GHz
2x512MB RAM 667 MHz (with 2x1GB Corsair 667 MHz on the way; should be here next Monday or Tuesday)
Nvidia 7400TC
Media Package
80GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Intel Pro 3945 Wireless Card
Extended Battery
Vista Home Premium
End cost was a hair under $1,800 (the added memory was another $160). Prices are all in Canadian prices. I'm looking at picking up another (more appropriately sized) notebook bag for ~$50 (there's a nice one on sale at Staples right now). -
