Hey, what u guys think? Is it worth the price? Also I ordered the remote control for vista and in my order reciept it says remote controller for XP media center. Hope it is the same thing I ordered. It was configured online. -
I just got my Inspiron 1520 yesterday and I love it ^^
Came w/ a good samsung screen, no graininess - really glad I didn't get an AUO
Very impressed w/ DHL shipping. They shipped it from California early Monday morning and it arrived @ my house in Seattle by noon.
Couldn't have asked for anything better... totally pwns my old Dell desktop.
Only regret I have is ordering ram seperately off of NewEgg. It was a pain in the *** to install the dimm-A module by removing the keyboard. The dimm-B however was fine; just had to unscrew a small latch on the bottom of the computer. -
Just ordered my first Dell to take with me to Iraq for a year. Had a Sony Vaio PCG-K13 in 04-05 in Afghanistan, and it did pretty decent, but couldn't handle newer games, and certainly won't now.
Anyhow, I figured I'd give Dell a shot, so I pulled the trigger on this machine today:
Dell Inspiron 1520 (Jet Black)
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2 Cache
1GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm (figured i'd save some bucks and upgrade on my own)
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1680x1050)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
320G 5400RPM SAMSUNG Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem
8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card
Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Yr Warranty w/ Accidental Damage & LoJack
Grand total: $1432.95, which is almost identical to what I paid for the Sony 3 years ago.
Not bad eh?
I'm stoked! -
I just got a Dell Inspiron 1520. Core 2 Duo @1.5GHz, 1gb memory, 120g hard drive, Intel X3100 graphics accellerator (I thought it was ati radeon until I got the laptop) and found out otherwise.
Im guessing this isn't any good for gaming. But gaming wasn't really in the plans for this anyway.
I'm also going to be looking into overclocking / overvolting -
Just purchased the Inspiron 1520 (Black):
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2 Cache
Windows Vista Home Premium
1GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm- (I'll upgrade on my own, dell is way to expensive)
High Resolution (1440x900) wide screen
256MB Nvidia 8600m GT
160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
Dell 1505-N mini card
Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1-year standard/basic warranty (I didn't feel the need for the extra warranty as I have never used the warrenty service for my current notebook. I may upgrade if it is suggested/recommended)
$1,079.95 out the door (after the $500 coupon Obviously)
I figure I'll use the $100 gift card to buy a Bluetooth mouse and notebook sleeve.
Est. ship date: 11/19/2007
My current notebook is an IBM ThinkPad T41, hopefully this Dell will hold up just as nicely as my ThinkPad has. -
I've ordered a 1520 with Win XP Pro couple days ago
@ohiohockeymike
where did you see a $100.00 gift card in your shopping cart or in your confirmation e-mail if the deal is a stackable $200.00 gift card with a stackable $500.00 coupon
check your confirmation e-mail and let us know if you see $200.00 gift card in it -
Got my Latitude D630 on Friday. So far I am a VERY satisfied owner. Currently getting used to Vista. ;-)
Big thanks to people who actually recommended this baby to me, it's great. -
-
@ohiohockyemike
Please, read all my threads on Notebook and Tech Bargains in topic Dell Inspiron $500 Off Coupon Code
short note: they promise a gift card not on the price your pay for your laptop but on the amount of money the SYSTEM originally worth it
also, why do you think a gift card promotion shows up automatically and without any codes in your shopping cart ?
They have honor whats in your shopping cart and on your Dell Confirmation Order E-mail. And if that's not what they think they offer than they better fix online ordering process, so no one would see a coupon and a gift card combined in shopping carts -
Well my new laptop may not technically be new...but it's new to me.
I just got my Christmas gift early from my dad. My Thinkpad recently had it's motherboard fry so he took the opportunity to upgrade my system and get himself a smaller laptop. He got a brand new black XPS M1330 to replace the XPS M170 that he got about a year ago from the Dell Outlet. He got the M170 in new condition, although it had been previously opened, the person didn't accept the license and returned it to Dell. It's still in excellent condition with only a few minor scratches on the back of the LCD panel. It was only used once as a "portable" when he went on a training trip out of town. Other than that it's been sitting on a tv table in our TV Room. He's only used it for Web surfing and email the whole time...maybe watching an occasional video...so up till now it's lead a pretty dull life.
Worked all weekend (no reinstall CD's shipped with the system...or my dad lost them) trying to get a fresh copy of Windows MCE 2005 loaded onto it and finally finished a bit ago with the help of this forum.
Specs that I know:
Pentium M 2.0 Ghz
1.0GB RAM 533mhz DDR2
Geforce Go 6800 Ultra 256MB
100GB HD 7200RPM
Media Center 2005 -
Ordered my Inspiron 1520 on 11/4, picked it up at DHL shipping center 11/12. Apparently I've got the AUO screen, and I don't see a bit of grain or grease in it. The black lid is another story. Fingerprint magnet. Satisfied thus far, but it's early in the game.
Upgraded from an Averatec industrial strength hair dryer cleverly disguised as a laptop. -
Just ordered a new Latitude D830 on 11/14 and am (im)patiently awaiting it's arrival. Est. Ship Date 11/26 but we'll see.
Edit 11/16/07: I just had a chat with Dell to find out about my order status. The rep said the laptop was in it's final testing stages and should be shipping shortly (hopefully today). If so I ought to have it on the 19th!
Specs:
Latitude D830, Intel Core 2 Duo T7800, 2.60GHz, 800MHz, 4ML2 Cache, Dual Core
15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ LCD
2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM
256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
120GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 7200RPM
Windows XP Professional
8X DVD+/-RW
Intel 4965 WLAN (802.11a/g/n) mini Card
9-Cell/85 WHr Primary Battery for Latitude D830
This ought to get any of my jobs done with a little room to play! -
Just a point of note: my first attempt to do any kind of performance test: I compiled a Visual Studio solution on my XPS Gen 2 Pentium M 2.13GHz and on my XPS M1730 C2X 2.8 GHz: the M1730 compiled in under HALF the time of the Gen2 (no huge surprise) but that's in keeping with my personal computer upgrade requirement: I only upgrade when the new PC is twice the speed of my current machine (or greater).
the icing on the cake? The M1730 runs quieter than the Gen2, and isn't even overclocked: I'm sure I could squeeze a few mor GHz out of it, but the quiet is nice... -
I just got my blue midnight dell inspiron 1420! And its great! For my specs, just check my siggy!
-
Sweet, my new D830 just got here and I'm now in the process of wiping and reinstalling the OS. Other than the touchpad being very non-sensitive at the moment, all is well.
Edit: Well I have been running this thing all night, just playing around with it. I have only two complaints with this machine.
1) The battery rattles a bit. Not a real big deal but it is still mildly irritating.
2) Have you ever been to a restaurant and sat at a table that had one leg a little shorter than the others? Yeah, one of the rubber feet on this is visibly shorter than the others, and it's at the rear corner of the laptop. THIS is very irritating but I'm sure I'm just being petty. -
My Inspiron 1521 got here today!

I just ordered my Vostro 1500 and I can't wait it till I get it....
I used to have a Very old Basic Inspiron which turned out to be "not bad" after 16 months I Sold for a very good price. -
I've just ordered a Vostro 1500, hope it turns out better than my old 5150...
T7250
3gb RAM
160gb 5400rpm
256mb 8600M GT
WSXGA+ (or whatever they call it) 1680x1050 screen.

Wooohoooo, I just got my Vostro 1500.. It's sooo Awesome.. who said black isn't Stylish... I believe Gray is more passive than Black.
i love it.... -
Okay I just got my Inspiron 1520 in this week to replace my 700M that I bought in 2005. (700M works very well still, but I wanted something new so I'm giving the 700M to my mom).
It's so much bigger/heavier than the 700M that it will take some getting used to (I have been throwing my 700M in my purse and running out the door for the last 2 years!)
Now - I have no idea what most of my specs below mean. The laptop is mainly just used for my law school work and messing around online... but I wanted to upgrade as much as possible so it will last me a while after I get my law degree in 2009 (or at least until I have another need for a major shopping purchase!)
Specs:
DELL Inspiron 1520 White
2.2GHz Core 2 Duo
2GB, 667MHz DDR2 RAM
160GB HDD 7200 RPM
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M
CL Xtreme Express Card Audio
Vista Home Premium
Wireless N + Router
Bluetooth, Webcam, TV Tuner/Remote

First post and wanted to let everybody know that dell has me jumping thru hoops. Pisses me off when i have 3 esd delays and ppl on here have either the same config or close to the same config and they get or are getting their lappy before me. I originally ordered my 1730 on 11.5 with the 2.2 processor /sunday. After talking to ppl i called in monday and talked to ted clairmont on 1-800-274-7799 about upgrading to the 2.8 processor , he was very nice and great to work with. After some number crunching he came back and said that the price would go up 280 dollars over what my original config would be. I said wow and that would be fine. I got the email saying that the esd would be 11-19. Cool so i kept watching the order screen and it seemed like it was stuck on order processing. I tried to get ahold of TED and he was out of office and use his backup. So i called and emailed his "backup" suprise no answers back. So i just called in and talked to a girl named Debbie that said that she would take control of the order. They didnt follow my instructions on my charge cards. My MC has 3000 limit and my V has 1000 limit. Anyhow i got that straightened out and she said it was ok now and she will stay ontop and call me when things change on the order. Ha heard that before. Well the 19th came and no puter. I called in and couldnt get ahold of Ted and Debbie thru emails and phone for 2 days so i gave up and just used online chat so i could have some kind of records. The guy said that the esd was the 27th for the order and doesnt see anywhere about the 19th. How the hell can it change and they have no record. I asked why and he said just that it was changed , no reason , RAMAKRISHNA TVS was the rep. So i impaitently wait til the 27th. My cards werent charged , the dates still show 27th and nobody has contacted me other then the 4th person Eshwar_Teki which has sent me canned emails about the status of the order. They just kept saying that the order numbers and the ship date of 27th. So i email and after 2 days get a reply about the question , canned again. So i call in on cust support line and M.A.Mateen.Muqtar Resolution Expert answers . He said that he cant make any "promises" just send a request to manufacturing to expedite since its on the last stage of production. How could he tell me that and nobody else could get that specific. Its amazing , ha. Then he tells me that there might be a 24 to 48 hr delay until it ships . Great another delay , this would be the third delay. He said that he will take ownership and keep me updated. I laughed and said right now my faith with dell is non existent and explained thats what the 5 other ppl said to me. He tried to reassure me that he WILL make sure i have a pleasant dell expierence and thats what dell is about pleasent experiences. I told him that im looking at other manufactures and might just drop dell all together , make sure my sisters never order from dell again , and also all the ppl at work dont order dell to. Im either looking at building a sager or buying the blackhawk from pcmicroworks. Sorry about the rant but i want everybody to know how bad dell is at living up to its "almighty rep". I did have an xps2 lappy before this and i must have spent more then 10 hours total over 3 calls with tech on that lappy. And stupid me thinking that when mikey dell came back things would change. Yea it changed , once they get your money they really dont care and customer service goes out the window. I will add with any more events that come my way. oh the last cs expert said that when the order ships he will be kind enuf to credit me 50 bux.

My Vostro 1500 arrived this morning!
I ordered it last Wednesday afternoon here in the UK, got my order number and i thought they would send me an estimated delivery date today, the delivery guy arrives at 08:13 with my new Vostro this morning!
Only just opened it so i'll report back to tell you what it's like. -
Ordered a few days ago (the 1st), spec is in my sig.
cant wait for it to come so i can start playing with it... living at my g/fs house an her dads pc is dire, so need my own one to play on!!! -
My Vostro 1500 came in today 2 days earlier than expected!!
I love it. I'm typing this on it right now, and I must say the keyboard is amazing. A very good feel.
The laptop LOOKS amazing! The all black look with silver trim is great.
It's fast as hell
1.8ghz core 2 duo with 2 gigs of ram (i'm going to upgrade that) gives me stellar performance.
The updating and deletion of crapware was quick and easy.
The thing that I was the most scared of was the screen. I was afraid of getting an AUO or whatever that apparently has a grainy texture and very poor viewing angles. I got an SEC screen (checked in the device manager) and it's pretty good. The viewing angles aren't amazing, butt its very clear and has a way better look than my CRT.
This is my first laptop, although I'm a very experienced with computer...and I love it. oh yea, and wireless was a breeze. -
Just ordered my Inspiron 1520. Won't get it till Christmas though (its a present from my parents lol, but they said I can order it as they don't know much about computers).
Jet Black with 2MP camera
1440x900 glossy screen
Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz
2GB RAM DDR2 667MHz
Geforce 8600M GT 256MB
250GB 5400RPM HDD
Windows Vista Home Premium
9 cell battery
£716.13
can't wait now lol. Will be nice to have a computer to myself, and one that I can use in my room in the winter (the room the family PC is in atm gets pretty cold in the winter, and the heater in here takes ages to warm up).
Hopefully I won't get a dodgy screen. I'm not too bothered about the headphone jack issues, as if I do use headphones, the volume will be up a fair bit lol (and I may well get a USB headphone / mic headset anyway). -
Well, I've had my new 1520 for about 3 weeks now but sad to say it's going back. Here is my story:
I purchased it with the following specs:
2.2 ghz, 1 gig memory, 160gb 7200rpm HDD, 256meg video, 1440x900 screen, vista home premium, jet black, dvd writer, 6 cell and 9 cell battery, 2 year in home.
The total price came to $1183 after the $500 coupon. I also got the $200 coupon which was to show up in 6-8 weeks. Not a bad deal in my opinion.
When I first booted up I check the screen and it did look grainy to me and it had some bad viewing angles and poor brightness. I checked the device manager and it was the samsung lcd. I placed a call to tech support and eventually got them to ship me out the LG display. They first told me I could only get the samsung and that the LG screen would only fit the vostro 1500 model. I was also told that they are only shipping the samsung on the 1520 and that the vostro 1500 is the only one that can comes with the LG screen. I ended up telling the tech support person to send both the LG and samsung screen and if the LG didn't fit then they could install the samsung. The tech support manager thought that was a good idea and he said he would submit the request to the parts department. Well, they ended up only shipping the LG screen and a technician installed it just fine. The new LG screen was 100% better in my opinion. Other than a little leakage from the bottom the screen is a lot brighter and has a lot better viewing angles and NO GRAIN! The screen is really nice.
Well, I started messing around with Vista a little and began to install all my programs. I became inscreasingly annoyed with Vista. I had some issues with my old programs not working correctly which got me thinking I should have ordered the computer with windows XP pro. Just for grins I installed a copy of XP pro using nLite. The install was a breeze since all the drivers are available on the dell site. After installing XP I definately wished I had ordered the computer with XP installed. I ending up calling dell explaining my situation and asked them if I could send back my vista disks and get XP in return. They told me I could not do that and that I should send the computer back and reorder. I was told that if I installed XP I would be voiding my software support unless I bought XP from them and had a technician install it. They said they would sell me XP pro for $299 minus $50 as an incentive. I thought that offer over. I was still worried about not receiving proper support since dell could blame microsoft and visa versa for any issue I had. I ending up deciding that I should return it so when calling to return the laptop I was offered a $125 credit and $50 coupon to keep the computer. I thought to myself I could use that money to buy XP pro and have a technician install it. Everything looked good.
I then called in today to order XP pro and have a technician install it. Well, I talked to about three different people, some saying that my warranty would stay the same, others saying that I would void my software warranty. The final customer care agent told me I would definately be voiding my software warranty so I decided to send back the computer. I now have the UPS labels to send it back free of charge with no restocking fee.
I'm a little leary of ordering another dell since it will probably come with the samsung screen. Also, the price of my computer is now $1711 for the same specs. That's over a 45% increase over what I paid for it.
So if anyone is looking for a nice laptop with an LG screen be on the lookout for mine in the dell outlet -
Well Dell delivered my XPS M1710 on 3rd Dec, I ordered it on 24th Sep and it was going to be 24th Dec but my constant nagging paid off.
T7400 2.16ghz, Go7950GTX, 160Gb SATA, 1900x1200 screen and Win XP MCE.
My first Laptop and I have to say it's great, I used PM8 to shrink the C drive to 40Gb (Plenty for XP) and repartitioned the 100Mb (ish) for data and ditched some of the bloatware.
Just built a Q6600 based desktop with 8800GT graphics too, plenty of fun to be had this Xmas. -

Which would be the best RAM for me to purchase? Any help would be appreciated! -
Does anyone know when will the hard drives with 7200rpm be available with Dell Vostro 1500 in USA again? There is one (160GB with Free Fall Sensor) but it's pretty expensive. I wanted to choose 200GB 7200rpm, but I missed it (just a few days) I cannot call Dell Support, cause I'm from Europe (I wanna buy it there and mail it to my home). I'd be thankful, if anyone could call them (it's free) and share info with me

Arrived today, a full 9 days ahead of schedule. 10 days to build. Not bad. Of course I am worried, but, unfortunately for me, I can't check how things look utnil Xmas. Mom's rule. So, a full two weeks staring at a cardboard box. 14 days never looked so long.

Hi all (first post)
My wife had a hankerin' for one of the Dell's in pink, so I gave in and purchased one for her for Christmas. Ordered it on 11/23, and it was shipped on 11/29, and arrived to me on 12/3 via DHL.
I ordered a 1521, with AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 (1.9GHz/1MB), and 1GB of RAM (already have purchased 2gig's from OWC to replace the stock 512 sticks). Vista Home Premium for the OS. I must say, I was pretty impressed with the machine. After removing the garbage that Dell ships with it, and tinkering around with Vista settings, it runs pretty smoothly. Even with 1gig of RAM, for the basic everyday computing she will be doing, this machine is perfect (and a huge step up from the D510 she's currently on!). All in all, I'm pretty impressed with the build quality, picture, and overall performance of the machine. I didnt get a chance to really hammer the OS to see what it will do (waiting to put the upgraded RAM in).
I'm glad I stumbled on to this site though (never knew about it prior to yesterday). Lots of helpful information -

Will hopefully be placing my order for a top spec M1730 later this week.
Probably wont get it until after Xmas now though -
Can anyone give me some e-mail to Dell's technical support in USA? I'm abroad now so I can't call them

Just got it this week. I was given an approximate ship date of 12-14, and using the 3-5 day shipping, I should have gotten it next week sometime. Imagine my surprise on Monday when I check the status, and discovered that it actually shipped the night before! Imagine my further shock when I tracked the shipment, and discovered that it would arrive that afternoon - one day service for free!
Got a good deal (I think) on this configuration. After some dealing/coupon matching, I paid $840 (plus tax) for this Dell Vostro 1500:
- 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA+ LCDTrueLife for Vostro 1500 $0.00
- 2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM
- 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
- 160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- Genuine Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 (I have a copy of Pro, so I'm upgrading)
- 8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+R write capability, w Roxio Creator
- Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card + internal Bluetooth
- Integrated 2.0 mega pixel webcam 1500
- 56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
It's a very nice package, and I'm having fun with it! I've already installed Adobe CS3, and it's running very well. My laptop is faster than my desktop on most counts. I've got it set up to synchronize all my documents with my desktop, for easy portability. The only thing I don't like about it is the size - this is one fat piece of equipment! But, I knew what I was getting into there, o I won't complain too much. -
Not yet owner.
I am deciding between a Precision M4300 and a Latitude D830.
I would like to receive your opinion about the differences between these two models, if configured both with same CPU, same RAM, same HD, wireless, and battery.
And if you can/want, take a look to this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2770714#post2770714
Thanks! -
I reckon I'd choose Precision. Latitude is ugly and has worse graphics card.
But there is one things that confuses me:
- "Dell Wireless® 360 Bluetooth Module for Windows XP"
- "Dell Wireless® 360 Bluetooth Module for Vista"
Two options for one Bluetooth Module. Does it really mean that if You chose module for XP you won't be able to run it on Vista? -
But, if you have got different infos.
I would like to know, for you, what can be the difference in performances of a latitude with a 135M and a Precision with a FX360, and in which situation should I notice it.
And which has got more chances of longevity, and why.
I'll have to ask to the agent. -
Yes I'd say it's quite a good deal, considering your graphics is $100 cheaper but you bought the whole laptop $200++ cheaper compared to mine [we almost have exact same specs, except for graphics and... hey you didn't include CPU in your specs!].
As long as you're not carrying it around too much, it shouldn't be a problem. My Vostro's sitting on my desk most of the time -
Yay mine came 1 day early. installing Vista Ultimate now xD

I ordered my Dell Vostro 1400 about a couple weeks ago and it should come either tomorrow, or tuesday. I can't wait! I do have a question though. I told the people I didn't want the extra business software, and they must have thought that I meant i didn't want any software, so they didn't give me Roxio Creator. Is there a way I can still get it for free, or download Sonic program(like they gave in the Dell 6000's) from somewhere? What else can I use to burn cds and dvs? (for free. I don't want to pay $$ to get nero or anything else)
-Vostro 1400, Intel Core 2 Duo T5270, 1.4GHz, 800Mhz, 2M L2 Cache

-128MB nVidia GeForce 8400M GS Graphics Card

I got my new m1530!!!
Very sexy looking laptop, just finished doing a fresh vista install (to get rid of the dell bloatware) and it is pretty damn nippy! Currently downloading 3DMark06 to get the score, but from the review, I'm hoping for upward of 3500!
