Nice, you got almost the exact same rig as mine, just without the DVD burner and the next up CPU.

How long does the "in production" stage usually take? Because mine is in production, but has an estimated ship date of the 31st

Wow that's a really good price from what I've seen. Another question though: Does the 6-cell battery stick out? I just saw that they have a 4-cell option, so it seems like that could be flush with the XPS, the 6-cell sticks out a little and the 9-cell sticks out a lot.

No, you can check my video (in my sig). The 4 cell must have empty space in the casing of the battery, the six cell is flush, and the 9 cell actually protrudes from the bottom causing the laptop to stand up a couple inches

i have six cell, and i "ordered" it at my university store, and "received it" same day :)

I got the same config that you did and mine shipped today -- finally! I ordered mine July 19, but the new ship date wasn't until 8/16 -- so maybe yours will come early.

I got my 1720 on the third and proceeded to uninstall as much bloatware as possible. after installing lojakc and getting everything set up, my rig takes 2 minutes to load up after logging in. I can still do stuff, but my CPU is at 100% usage, and the memory is at about 50% for awhile. anyone know what the problem is?

Hey guys I rodered my M1710 on 7/August/2007 and still in pre-prdouction. It's getting very frustrating, if I wanted a delayed laptop I would have ordered the M1330! The due date is 21st of August though I really can't see that happening now. Thinking of cancelling it, I rang dell up and this woman said she'd ring me when the order was despatched, which isn't any great help!

So annoying. I'm in Ireland by the way.

Mine is at the local Hub, 35 miles away or so. I could pick it up this evening, but I'm going to wait until they deliver it tomorrow, and play with it after work.

But it is weird to know that it is within reach, after 40 days

Hey I just got my Vostro 1500 a day ago. As soon as I got it out of the box and started it up, I realized it was REALLY slow and laggy. I'll click on something, and the cursor will swirl like ti does when its loading for a good amount of time, not letting me do anything else in the meantime. Once it kicks in, everything I tried to do while it was "froze" and what I had done that made it load in the first place pops up in a blink of an eye... I don't get it! My system has the 2.2 Ghz processor, 2 gigs or ram, 8600GT, 120 gig hard drive, web cam, blue tooth, wsxga+ screen, dvd burner, and Intel wireless N card. Any ideas whats slowing it down? Thanks ahead for any and all help! Sincerely, Keith

Alright, I've just finished setting up my nice new, shiny Dell 1721, and I have to say... I am totally in love with this computer. It had a TON of bloatware on it when it came out of the box, and after uninstalling most of it, I customized it with the backed-up programs from my external HD. The screen is absolutely fantastic at 1900 x 1280, with no graininess as reported by some other users, and no light bleeding at all.
The only thing I'm debating right now is whether or not I want to wipe it down clean and do a fresh install of Vista (which, by the way, I'm finding surprisingly easy to use).

Just received my Midnight Blue 1520, T7500 2.2GHz processor, 2GB DDR2 667 RAM, 160GB 5400 RPM HD, nVidia 8600m 256mb Vid, 1280x800 Glossy screen. For those that were asking about freezeup's, here's the first few things I have done out of the box, and I would suggest you do the same:

    1) Uninstall all Google CRAP!
    2) Uninstall all Norton/McAfee software (this will slow you down terribly).
    3) Install a nicer, less doggy antivirus, like AVG Free Edition.
    4) Start getting Windows Updates.

That's all I have had time to do thus far with it, but I will be:

    5) Upgrading to the latest reported stable nVidia Drivers.
    6) Disabling the UAC for Windows Vista
    7) Installing a GOOD defragger - likely Diskeeper 2007 (you won't need this as often with Vista though)
    8) Get on with installing my favorite games and Microsoft Software (Office).

I havn't had any freeze-up's just yet, but I havn't had the machine running that long yet.

There are quite a few more tweaks for Windows Vista that will help it out, but the things above are what I recommend before you jump the gun and reformat. Get that bloatware off of the thing!! AOL, Earthlink, Trial software that Dell sent with it, you name it.. all that crap is going to slow you down and you don't need it.

Just like Ernest Angley, the Akron Ohio televangelist used to say: "YOU are SPECIAL." :)

WOOT, got my 1520 today. The DHL guy went to the wrong house so on the status it said "Attempted deliver; recipient not home" and then I had to call and give the guy directions to my house... but in the end I got it. I was having trouble setting up my internet - called my ISP and they didn't help at all, but I kept fiddling around in vista and somehow it got to the point where it told me it fixed the problem lol... Right now I'm downloading a bunch of windows updates, then I'll probably try out some games on my new pride and joy.

Good news for me! Ordered a Vostro 1500 (T7300, 2.0GHz proccessor, 2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 DIMM, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, 160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive) on 8/13, it shipped on 8/19 and is estimated to arrive 8/22 to 8/24! (before it was 9/4 to 9/6 so after I start college) Can't wait!
