Mine came to $1298 after a $300 rebate and I pretty much have the same stuff. The difference you do have don't seem like they should put yours that much above mine in terms of cost. If it hasn't shipped I'd check the online site again for a better deal.

Are you all ordering the backlit LED versions? :|

If so, I'm jealous. HK doesn't have those. Only CCFL.

Just got my Inspiron 1520 in the mail yesterday:

Pro Duo Santa Rosa 2.0 ghz
    2 GB ram
    8600M GT 256mb
    160 gb 5400 RPM HDD

    Ended up around $1,100.

Haven't gotten around to test a bunch of high end games yet, but it ran UT2k4 and Warcraft3 maxed out just fine. Also ended up getting a little static on my headphone jack, though not a huge problem because I mainly use a USB headset anyways (once I get back home in September anyways).

Screen is nice and glossy, no grain that I can see. There is a weird thing where the screen blinks when Vista starts up and the screen turns back on if I closed the lid. Keyboard and mouse pad are fine, ended up switching over to my USB laser mouse though.

The thing is damn quiet compared to my old HP laptop, and much much cooler. My old HP was a freaking heater, but the Inspiron doesn't heat up at all. Might end up over clocking the GPU once I've settled in and started playing some Counter Strike Source.

I am so stoked! I just placed an order for my new laptop! I will be running Ubuntu so the vista home thing wont be a big deal BUT my dad is refusing to let me use "just home" so he said he would buy me the laptop if i bought Vista Ultimate (he wants to "play with it" LOL) i would say that was a $190.00 well spent :) !!!! Just as a little background my dad is a WIFI engineer and primarilly designs wireless networks for Hospitals and building that average over 1 MILLION sqft under one roof so needless to say he always has to have the best! Again if you cant tell i am EXCITED! I was going to get the DV9500t but this thing came with much more for less! A better screen, a better graphics card, more ram, ETC.

None worked for me even on the regular models with no deals already on them. My best option was to take the 400 bucks off deal they were offering me. Your notebook is quite a bit better than mine and with that 3 yr plan of your still is almost 500 bucks less than mine! I dont see how that makes sense...

it will definitely get you through 4 years of school.

however, if you plan on playing the newest games, i'd say 3 years is REALLY stretching the gaming capabilities of the lappy. that is quite a long time in the wide, wide world of gaming technology.

I was going to ask how to get this price, because when I assembled mine with these stats it came out to just under 1500. Then I noticed the preliminary ship date is 8/27. Who in their right mind places an order for a computer that has a GUESTIMATED ship date nearly a month out? Way too much can change in that time frame.

Look for Dell coupon codes. I ordered almost the exact same setup as that guy and I got $300 off of 1450 by using a code I found online. It's only valid through August 9, however.

I'd have liked a separate battery charger, but didn't notice one listed.

I'd have liked a longer warranty, but couldn't afford it along with everything else.

Dell BH200 Bluetooth 2.0 EDR EDR Stereo Headset
EXPRESSCARD SOUND BLASTER X-FI XTREME AUDIO NOTEBOOK
I hope this has good sound. Between this and the bluetooth headset I'm hoping to avoid the annoying high pitched sound some people have mentioned.

I always order mine with the same warranty and then extend it when the year is almost up. Cost me $97 to add another year on my 1705.

I got it on a deal back in June for the 640m. It seemed like dell was getting rid of their stock since it was going to be discontinued. I then got an email stating I had to contact Dell if I wanted the order to continue because there were going to be delays. I gave Dell the ok to go on with the order. The next day it was cancelled and I called and requested to speak to a customer care manager. She said to place any order and she would credit me $250 towards it. I didnt negotiate at all. I just explained my dissatisfaction with the whole situation and she apologized and offered the credit. Credit ended up being $270 when they included the tax.

    Son of a...

Ordered on the 23rd, scheduled to ship the 6th. Now it's the 7th, and it was resheduled to the 14th.

You know, I could almost live with that if I had a reason to believe it wasn't just going to get pushed back another week.

Hey just ordered my dell XPS M1710 today. Specs are:

    Core 2 Duor Processor T7400 (2.16 GHZ, 4MB L2 cache, 667 FSM)
17" Ultrasharp WideScree WUXGA (1920 x 1200) Display with Truelife
    2048 667MHz DDr2 SDRAM
160GB (5,400 rpm) Sata Hard Drive
    8x DVD+/-RW Drive including software - Vista
    Primary 9-Cell 80W/Hr Li-Ion
    Targus Campus Notebook Backpack XL
512MB DDR3 nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX graphics card
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card

I'm so happy, been researching laptops for the last few weeks and finally arrived at the M1710.

Anyone any experience with the Wireless N cards? I got it because it was only an extra 12 Euro and wanted to be ready for any hotspot I could manage to connect to.

My wireless N card works great, although I'm using a G router...
Its completely backwards compatible, and I don't think I've used a better card yet.

Excellent, that's the kind of answer I was hoping for. Thanks. Have you used any of the N routers with it? I'm interested to find out the speed increase over G routing.

    Ouch.

Well, anyway, my father just got a new mobile workstation:

    Precision M90
    17" WUXGA (1920x1200)
    256MB Quadro 2500M
    Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0 GHz, 4MB cache)
    2GB DDR2-667
    120GB HDD (5400 RPM, I believe)
    DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo ( :( )

It's very nice. He takes it to work and lets me use it in the evening. Plugged in F.E.A.R. Combat at 1920x1200 with all settings on maximum, vsync, and 4x AA and it ran very smoothly.

No worries there, I'm guessing somewhere in the 50+ range seeing as my old P2 433MHZ computer could run it. :)

Ah right, mine isn't due for a while anyway so no worries yet.

August. I just can't find any other laptop that looks acceptable to me or I'd just cancel it. The only other laptop out there I can consider is the G1S-A1 and it's a good $300 more and doesn't come with a 3-year in-home warranty and a case and extended battery.

ordered mine tuesday. i'm in a long line of people waiting for a computer almost exactly like mine, but that's okay. maybe i'll be surprised and i'll get it in time for my fantasy football draft : )

gives me time too to buy all the accessories I need for it ahead of time.

praying my order doesn't get cancelled like a few horror stories i've read.

thinking good thoughts, hope we all get our sweet machines soon.

Just ordered mine. Vostro 1500 with these specs (soon to be put in sig):
    T7500
    XP
    1.5GB
    8600M GT
    WSXGA+
    No Webcam
    160GB @ 5400RPM
    8x DL drive
    9-cell battery
Total (before tax): $1439 CAD (called and got a $50 coupon, and $140 original savings with the hot offer)

Told me 10-12 days until I receive it...but could this be true with all of the delays? Maybe less demand in Canada or something?

But anyways, I'm really happy with this deal as I have been waiting for so long to get a laptop :D .

Ha geez... blahboy, my sympathies to you, and everyone who has "just" ordered their Inspiron. You're likely aware of it, but you are in for a long adventure of waiting and delays. Expect at the very least a month before you can caress your notebook in your own hands. Just pray the notebook's not defective; then expect at the very least a few years until you own your notebook. By that time its hardware will become outdated and you'll want to order a new Dell notebook, (well if you're smart it won't be a Dell!). Dell by then will likely have once again remodeled their notebook line, and it will be in high demand, and you will wait yet another few months for your notebook. Hopefully it's not defective, cause if it is, it'll be a few years before Dell returns you your notebook from repair. By that time, it will be outdated, Dell will have redesigned their notebooks, and it will be in high demand. You get the picture. And all because you ordered an Inspiron 1720. Cheers.

*Situation slightly amplified under legal condition

unlike everyone else i went with the basic colors. just black. i read that most of the delaying is because of the customized colors and/or other customized crap. i went basic and hope to get it in 2 weeks.
