hey my first dell laptop ever tell me if i made the right choices with my config??
thankxs -
first of all congrats to hockeyplayer_3 (above), I liked the MPS1210 and almost got it over the one below, but my school just had too good a deal with Dell... It looks like it would be hard to go wrong with your configuration, you got the top notch products at seemingly every place, although as I mentioned in my comments about my machine below it would be nice to have 667RAM and 7200RPM HD.
Here's what I came here for... to let the world (or this small sliver of it) know what I purchased today:
-Latitude D620, Intel Core Duo T2500, 2.00GHz, 667Mhz, 2M L2 Cache
-14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD for Latitude D620
-1.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 1 DIMM for Dell Latitude Notebooks
-256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M TurboCache, Latitude D620
-80GB Hard Drive 9.5MM, 5400RPMfor Dell Latitude DX20
-Windows XP Professional, SP2 with media, for Latitude English
-90W AC Adapter for Latitude D-Family
-8X DVD+/-RW with Roxio CreatorDell Edition Digital Media andCyberlink Power DVD
-Intel 3945 WLAN (802.11a/g) mini Card for Latitude
-Resource CD w/ Diagnostics andDrivers for Latitude D620 Notebook
-9-Cell/85 WHr Primary Battery for Latitude D620
-Type 3 Contract - Next Business Day Parts and Labor On-Site Response, Initial Year
-Type 3 Contract - Next Business Day Parts and Labor On-Site Response, 3YR Extended
-CompleteCare Accidental DamageSvc, Lat, 4Yr , 1-800-624-9896
Total: $1185.43
I am pretty excited about getting 1GB of DDR2-667 as opposed to 533, and the four years of service including CompleteCare was a huge draw. I wish I could have gotten it with Core 2 Duo and maybe a bigger (or at least faster) HD, but I don't even have that much media so 80 should be plenty for me. I can't wait to get it in the mail! Oh and there was a $50 rebate as well, so the final price I'm going to end up paying is $1135.43. What do you think? -
Hey, I just purchased my first laptop and from dell.ca. Both my friends bought the same laptop before me the inspiron 6400 and so far no bugs or crashes they seem to enjoy it. Thus, I got one.. here are the specs of my new DELLIO
Intel® Core 2 Duo processor T7400 (4MB Cache/2.16GHz/667MHz FSB)
2GB Shared DDR2 SDRAM (free upgrade)
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory
120GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (nice battery)
and unfortunately WindowsXP Home.
anyways i expect to receive it sometime this week. ill let u guys know how it is just incase anyone else is thinking of buying a Core 2 Duo from dell. -
I have class till 6pm...I'll try not to get a speeding ticket on the way home!
Edit: I've got it, and I'm posting on it now! It's wonderful...I could hardly be happier with it. Of course the crapware was annoying, but I've just about got that under control now. There's a *bit* of keyboard sag on the lower-right corner, but nothing I noticed until I remembered to check for it. No defective pixels, and the screen is beautiful to look at, though the vertical angles are not that great (par for the laptop course, I understand). I'm a happy camper! -
I've finally taken pictures of my brand new Core 2 Duo M1210 that was received last Thursday.

Enjoy!

hockeyplayer, how did u get that configuration for that price? I tried to configure one with less specs and it came up to be around 1600$! I'm interested in this laptop but not for 1600, for your price I would though. Thanks.

The task manager shows 62 processes running. Will try to get them down tonight and tomorrow. Have to read some of the other threads first. Oh yeah, what's SQL Server service Manager?
Thanks to hbomb for some suggestions on configuration. -
Hello everyone, I've been furiously browsing through these forums for the past 2 weeks to alleviate the tension that built up while waiting for my notebook, but here's my first post.
Ordered my 6400/e1505 on the 17th of Sept and just got the tracking info today. Just hoping it will be delivered by Purolator right on Thursday, when I'm available to recieve it. On Wednesday and Friday I wont be available till late in the evening. But what are the chances of it being Thursday...

ok, finally got my inspiron 6400 after 6 days shipping. it's a core2duo,7400 2.16x2, x1400, 1gig, 1500wireless N, the rest is pretty standard I guess.
what do I think? As far as design goes, not overly impressed. I think I like the looks of the acer with the x1600 and built in cam and mic. This thing gets warmer than I expected. Also, on the bottom, the microsoft certificate of authenticity has a hole about the size of a penny in the middle. It looks like it may have melted or like someone rubbed in hard for a long time (not possible unless they sent me a used comp!) If it was heat, pretty scary to think it melted a hole in the sticker. h
Havent played any games yet, spent too long trying to update the ati driver, big tip is to use the mobility version you cant find on ati.com. simple if you get the right driver obviously.
time to put it through its paces before i have to go to bed for work tomorrow.

Hey guys,
Firstly, I have to thank the majority of you out there. I admit to my constant lurking around these forums without giving anything back, but that will soon change! (Now that I'll actually have an experience of which to share.)
I just ordered my Dell XPS M1210 2 days ago, and was wondering if the price I got was any good considering the specs on my machine.
After much deliberation, I managed to snag:
Dell XPS M1210
- Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz/667MHz/4MB)
- Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
- 12 inch WXGA Wide Screen with TrueLife™ and A/V Communications Pack (Intg. web cam, earbuds)
- FREE upgrade to 2GB at 667MHz (2 DIMM) from 1GB $250 Value
- 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7400 TurboCache™
- 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
- 6-cell Primary Battery and 9-cell additional Lithium Ion Battery
- Dell Wireless 1500 Draft 802.11n Dual-band Internal Wireless
- Integrated Audio with Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio
- Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)
- No productivity suite - Includes Microsoft Works 8. DOES NOT INCLUDE MS WORD
McAfee Security Center w/ VirusScan, Firewall and Privacy, 90-day trial
Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 6.0
- 1 Yr Return to Depot Service with 1 Yr Complete Care and 1 Yr Tech Support
- Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
- Windows Vista™ Capable
; all that jazz for $1800 CAD, flat (before taxes). Configuring the same laptop on the Dell Canada website nets me a lovely $2177. I haggled with the Dell CSR best I could (I've never quote haggled with a major corporation before) and my end result was "sufficient" for me to surrender my credit card.
In retrospect, I wished I spoke to at least another CSR and price compare, as the guy I got was somewhat hard to understand, with a heavy accent at times. I suspect I was just too darn excited, with the novelty factor of owning a laptop for the first time.
I'm sure others share the same experience, but those CSR's, eh? He tried to sell me printers and plasma TV's to go along with the purchase, of course the bait being an additional discount on the M1210. I had to tell him firmly that anything in addition to the laptop was not within my budget, period, but the talking helped me get a ~$50 discount while he was attempting to hook me.
He told me it'd be delivered in 7-10 "business days", but I'm terribly impatient and hope to alleviate that via posting this. I'm just stircrazy. Or just plain crazy.
I appreciate any and all questions, comments and criticisms. -
Well, my mother has an old Inspiron 9100. With a P4 2.8, 786MB's of RAM, 60GB 7200RPM HD etc. It's quite big, ugly, gets terrible battery life and is getting a bit slow, so I decided it was time for her to upgrade.
I got her an E1405 from dell outlet (Refurbished) with the following specs:
-Intel Core 2 Duo 1.66
-1GB DDR2 533mhz
-120GB 5400HD
-14" WXGA+ LCD
-DVD +/- DL Burner
-Sound Blaster Audigy Software
Paid $719 + around $50 tax, free shipping!
What do you guys think? What kinds of deals have you gotten on dell outlet notebooks? -
that is a really great deal.
I got the same as you but with a core duo and 80 gb hard drive but it is a 6400. I got mine for around 600 but i paid an extra 100 a month later for an extra 2 year hard drive -
Nice Deal. I just got a Latitude d620 for my friend because her computer died. $850 with 3 year onsite warranty is a sweet deal for such a quality computer.
-
yeah yeah great deal ! i thought its core duo , but now i see its CORE 2 DUO !
is it including external LCD? -
i needed something a little lighter so i returned my e1705 and got this:
Dell Outlet:
XPS M1210
Intel Core 2 Duo T7400
Geforce 7400 TurboCache
2GB 667mhz
120GB 5400RPM
Integrated Camera
Dell N Wireless
Blue tooth
all for ~$1550 -
Got my XPS m1210 on 10-4-06 two days ago.
So far I love it more than anything in the world. Except for my screen, which I hope to get fixed soon, I made a post on it. It's not faulty, it just wasn't what I expected, or rather it was what I feared. Anyways here is my setup:
XPS M1210, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz/667MHz/4MB)
12 inch Wide-screen WXGA Display with TrueLife, Camera,WW Ant, Ear Buds
2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache
60GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 - they told me to get it since it was cheaper and vista is right around the corner, i gave in.
8X DVD+/-RW Drive
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Additional Battery - 2 battery's just in case - i like the slim look sometimes too lol
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0 + EDR)
4 year warranty with complete care premium support - whole 9 yards on warranty

I ordered my Inspiron E1705 on Friday Morning (the 6th) and it departed last night(the 8th) from Nashville via UPS and is expected to arrive on Wednesday! I was reading through here the past couple of days and didn't expect the lappy to ship for another week. So for those who come here with hope of a quick arrival, there is hope indeed. The order was in the boxing stage starting Saturday Morning, which I read means it's on a boat from Malaysia. That seems like a rather fast boat ride to me? Gotta keep my mind off it for a couple more days.
-
Plus I got the same exact specs as you! -
@G_MON_E
I'm in the same boat. Ordered Thurs night and waiting anxiously for my Wed arrival. Pretty amazing turnaround really.
I didn't know about the EPP at the time or I probably could have gotten the higher res screen. As it was, I was already jumpy to order once the $300 coupon ended and they went back to 20% off.

1 Year In Home
Pretty no frills except the video card, which was a must since this is replacing my desktop. I have an Athlon XP1900+ tower that's dying on me and I think this'll make a great replacement. This is the first computer, laptop or otherwise, that I have bought pre-built since I was 17 years old so it's a strange experience for me.
Priced it online for $1800ish (with better screen and warranty) but was only approved for $1500 so called and made a few sacrifices and got a few discounts to get in under the wire. After tax, made it to $1499.98
I called today about extending the warranty and they told me I could get a 3 year extension for about $125 after $75 MIR if I upgrade within 30 days of my order so I'm probably going to try and do that. I'd like to add CompleteCare as well but I'm not sure that it's in the cards. I'm curious how often people have to use that when it comes to desktop replacements? -
Hello Everyone,
My first post today. I have been browsing around this forum for many months trying to decide which Laptop to buy and waiting for coupons. Time was just not on my side and I decided to buy the M1210. I was a little thrown back by first being quoted $1750, $60 (Next day) and now $133 (tax). Making the out the door price of $1944. I am not sure if this is such a good deal now.
I have bought online items before (not Dell) and was never charged tax. Is Tax normal for online orders now?
In any event, I am sure I will like the Laptop and hopefully I will receive it soon. I think it is more than what I need but I guess for piece of mind it is well configured for future Vista. I only need it for web, and MS office products for work presentations.
Cheers and I look forward to hanging around.

You will be charged tax by any business that has a physical presence in your state. Obviously since I'm in Texas I had to pay since Dell is based in Austin, but since Dell has Outlets now, you'll pay taxes in any state where they exist. That's my understanding anyway.
-
Yippe it came! It was really odd dell just called today and said it would be there by today, I got no shipping confirmation, they just sent it.
Anyways, ITS FREAKING AWESOME!
Nice screen, speedy as hell, good build quality and is freaking huge!
One thing I didn't ask for microsoft office and it came with it. Am I going to be charged for it? Or is it just installed and when I put in the product code they will charge me?
I wanna run some games but all I have right now is the touchpad.
The only bad thing I have found so far is the 50 lbs. of bloatware... I think my notebook literlarily got lighter when I uninstalled some of it. -

Have frequented this board for about a month. Learned many tricks and things to watch out for...Ordered a new Inspiron 1505 on Sept 29, 06...received it on 10/2...Love this machine
Core 2 Duo T7200 (2 GHZ)
1 GB of 533 MHZ DDR2
ATI X1400 with 256 MB Hypermemory
120 GB 5400 RPM Hitachi HDD
Windows XP MCE with DVD backup
Network Card Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Dell 1500 Draft N Wireless LAN (works great with my Buffalo HP G54 Router)
8X DVD Burner (LS-632D)...btw...burned some disks and checked quality on my Benq 1640...this puppy churns out burns of 97% quality...for + and - R
3 Year Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Suite
4 Year Warrantee (with $50 rebate)
Ordered the basic sound...received Audigy Upgrade...really not bad once you set EQ...it does make a difference
Battery 85W 9 Cell (get between 3:30 and 4:00 of battery time, depending on whether or not I run speedstep)
15.4" glossy monitor w/ True Life 1680 x 1050...exquisite!!!
Sonic Digital Media Suite 7 including MyDVD 6.1
Great machine....replaced a Toshiba 5205-S705 monster with this. Tosh had one of the original Glossy screens in it's day with NVIDIA Geforce Go5600.
I am not a big gamer...but have tried and successfully run Jedi Knight "Jedi Academy" at full 1680 x 1050 very smoothly; Battlefront II at 1580 x 1050 very smoothly; FEAR at 1280 x 800 with shadows on and most medium settings very smoothly as well. This ATI card may not be top of the top...but it is approximately in the range of the 9600 / 9700 desktop cards...and they can still play a lot of games...
Support has been great thus far. Received all the software and only things missing were the disks for the Sonic Suite and Cyberlink Power DVD. E mailed tech support and asked for the disks on Friday 10/6...received two packages today with dupes of MCE, Applications disk, drivers disk and backup for Media Direct in One package...and Sonic Digital Suite 7 and PowerDVD in the other...Dell wasted NO time taking care of business.
This is my second Dell machine...and I am back to Dell for good!

My e1705 arrived yesterday. First impressions:
I'm actually pleased with the matte screen and the resolution. Seems just right. Getting tons of light leakage though.
For the size (HUGE) it's actually not that heavy. My only real notebook experience before was an old P3 Toshiba Satellite my g/f won, which seems just as heavy but a smaller screen.
The bloatware is actually worse than I expected. I'm reformatting today. It's hard to post speed impressions at this point since all the software is interfering with my startup experience. One bad thing is that in my price haggling, I ended up losing the MCE physical disk which kind of limits my options. I've got an XP Pro CD somewhere I'll probably have to use.
Battery life!! Better than anticipated. Took it to the coffee shop last night and though didn't stay long enough to drain it, it seems to give me between 2:30 and 3:00 on a 6 cell, which seems kind of miraculous considering other estimates I've read. Very pleased. I'm also enjoying the scrolly trackpad. Don't know if that's standard nowadays but I've never seen one. I'm using that a lot and finding it very intuitive. Some of the keyboard layout might take me some time though (keep hunting for Delete). -
First off, I'd like to thank all you guys on this forum for introducing me to Dell Outlet. I had never known of it before. I've been lurking for a while and in the market for an M1210. They're in short supply on the outlet, but today I saw this one and couldn't pass it up....

Price? $1409. I configured a similar system new on Dell's website, and it came out to just shy of $2200.
Question. I noticed after purchasing it that this M1210's processor is a Core Duo, and not a Core Duo 2. Is there much of a difference between them? Probably wont sway my decision and make me cancel the order or anything, but I'm curious.
The only thing this laptop doesn't have that I kind of wanted from a new system was the webcam, and even then I doubt I would have used it much.... -
Not a ton of difference between the Core 2 Duo and the Core Duo. You got a heck of a steal on that laptop. I've got about $300 more going into mine, for a comparison (and I'm not buying the OS... I have Linux and an extra XP Pro license). I'll have a slightly faster processor, faster video card and a bit larger monitor to look at, but you got a screaming deal If I wanted the slower graphics, I'd be jealous... hehe

Ordered 10/10 - Shipped 10/14!
pulled the trigger on an e1405 with a similar configuration to what is shown in the image below:
ended up going the dell route over the dv2000t/v3000t because i came across a 20% off coupon for inspiron notebooks a couple days ago (combined that with a few more percent off for purchasing with a dell preferred financing deal). ultimately went with the dell because it had some better configuration options than the compaq/hp (7200 rpm drive for example), and wasnt shiney/silly looking... i dont think i'll be disappointed (er.. i HOPE i'm not diappointed )
cost was as follows:
$1730 - $338 (20% off coupon) - $27.84 (DPA discount) + $27.99 (shipping) - $19.99 (free shipping on notebook) = $1372.16 + $104.28 (wow @ tax) = $1476.44
keep in mind this included the bluetooth presentation/media express card remote, two batteries (including the upgraded 9 cell), and a two year at home warranty... the notebook alone could be had for much less.
edit: i forgot to mention that i intend on tossing some other memory in there once i get it.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Called Dell today to see whats up with my order. I said I was going to cancel the order unless it got shipped sooner. The rep upgraded my shipping to next day and magically my computer went from boxing to shipped with an UPS tracking number....
-
No magic involved. 'Boxing' includes travel time from overseas where the systems are manufactured to the US where final shipping prep occurs.

Just ordered an E1705! Cost was around $1500 before taxes, total around $1641 with taxes and shipping(free). Used the coupon since it was better than my student discount. I could have gotten some better components for the same price if I had bought when the 20% coupon was in effect. It's comming with a T7200, 7900GS, dvdr/rw, integrated sound, etc. I plan on upgrading the memory myself and the hard drive, maybe after the holidays. I'd prefer to jump from 1 Gig to 4 Gigs, and wait on the 7200rpm hard drives to have pependicular recording.
