    Thanks, iceman..
The audio drivers you gave me seem to work.. But I didn't have to install them manually from device manager, like you'd said..

Hi, I also have this audio driver problem, and would like to get some help.

Here are the specifics about my problem: under Device Manager, the only outstanding unrecognized hardware is listed under "Other Devices" --> "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". But everything else seems to be good, including the "audio, video, game controllers", which clearly have "Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC", "Audio Codecs", and "legacy audio drivers" listed. So, I have no problem hearing the sound, it's just that "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" outstanding mark never goes away, and like someone mentioned previously, my microphone does not seem to work, but I haven't tested this microphone thing thoroughly yet.

What I did with the my audio so far is:

    1. I have tried installing the following drivers from Dell:

    R158235.EXE (Version A09)
    R171789.EXE (Version A11)
R181712.EXE (Version A13, I found this with M1730 XP drivers)

And it seems, the A09 version does not install well, but the latter two installed smoothly, and these two feel quite the same to me, so I currently just keep the A13 version, since it is presumably the latest.

    2. I have also tried installing the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio from: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SO...AA-Bus-Driver-for-High-Definition-Audio.shtml, as someone suggested elsewhere, but that does not seem to make any difference to my machine, so I uninstalled it.

So, right now I only have the A13 version on my machine, and sound can play fine, and probably the microphone can be the only issue, although I don't care much about microphone for now since I have no such use.

So, I wonder if anyone in a similar situation have come up with a solid solution. Please let me know and I'd really appreciate that information.

And here is a little background about my system, it's fairly new, ordered new in August 2008, and has Intel T5750, 2G RAM, Intel Integrated Graphics, High Def Audio (whatever that is), etc. I experimented those Dell audio drivers installation under XP SP2 and got stuck with this issue, and I just installed SP3, but the issue remains.

I just just found out about this forum recently because of my decision to shift to XP with my m1330, and this thread really helped me with the initial process. But unfortunately, I cannot make the install a perfect experience as the OP did, so here I am, seeking your help.

One more thing, I also notice that for some of the other XPS laptop models, Dell site offers additional XP driver downloads, such as the Creative Labs driver for M1210, etc. I think I kind of randomly tried one of these and that did not work, so I dared not go further. But I wonder if M1330 needs something similar, that is, additional hardware driver besides the A11/A13 version of the Sigmatel driver.

Hi, I'd like to report that I've made some progress with my audio driver. The current status is that my machine has been perfectly installed according to the device manager, no single outstanding component.

How did I accomplish that? I am not entirely sure. But here is what happened: After I installed every other XP driver for M1330, the only two remaining driver yet to be settled are the video and audio. I first installed the R181712.EXE Sigmatel audio driver that can at least make the sound work. Then I began to work on the video. Since my m1330 has the Intel Graphics Card, whose driver is not listed in the beginning pages of this thread, I did a little search and found this: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2800, which is the exact match to my display driver. The driver installed perfectly. But... another interesting thing happened, this installation also somehow triggered something called "Intel High Definition Audio HDMI" as part of the installation process. And after everything finishes, the device manager is completely settled, and now under the audio, video and game controller segment, there is a new component that reads "Intel High Definition Audio HDMI". I am not entirely sure whether this is the way it is, or it is mistakenly recognized as such. Anyway, I won't bother with it any more, at least for now.

But the remaining question is I still cannot get my microphone to work. I am not sure if this still has something to do with the audio setup, or it is something else I have yet to set up. I have working microphones, and when I plugged in the jack, the screen can recognize so. But no sound comes out of it... Please advise.

For all those who are just downgrading to XP (August 2008 or later) -did yu get QuickSet to install? Please advise which file works as I can't get ANY QuickSet to Install...!!!

Also - anyone been able to use Bluetooth without WIDCOMM software, just the SP2/SP3 bluetooth control? I hate WIDCOMM and it doesn't work as well with everything! (Precisely, ActiveSync)...

    Thanks

Im soo happy, I got everything to work at the first try. I had some issues with the Nvida 8400M gs card but they have already released the driver for XP. Thanx for the awesome walkthrough and for all the help people on the forum have provided. No issues, I love this. :)

Just a quick question: does any of the Vista software that comes with the M1330 work OK under XP Pro? Because I remember Dell systems usually come with some WordPerfect, accounting and anti-virus software, which can be handy sometimes. But I haven't tried installing any of those under XP pro. Would appreciate the information.

I recently bought a XPS 1330, and seeing as I started to hate Vista after about 15min of use I decided to install XP. Got nLite, and the Sata drivers and everything went fine. But after installing XP the USB ports doesn't work. When I go to the Device manager it shows a warning sign at

    "Intel ICH8 USB Universal Controller - 2830"

I suspect there is something wrong with the drivers, but I haven't been able to find any that fix it. Any help would be appriciated :)

Edit: Maybe I should add my system specs. It's in Norwegian, but everything should be self explanatory ;)

Thanks everyone for this great list of drivers. Got my XPS two days ago and reformatted Vista yesterday. I made "slipstreamed" WinXP with SP3, installed drivers and everything works fine  Even integrated audio with internal microphone. But my XPS config lacks bluetooth and fingerprint reader...

    Here's how I installed audio...

    1) loaded XP with SP3 and latest DX9 (november 2008) update
    2) installed chipset driver from dell package (R153997)
    3) installed "kb835221.exe" hotfix from audio A13 package (located in HDAQFE\win2k_xp\us). It would have probably worked with hotfix from A11 audio drivers too, but I was little confused from the error, that sigmatel audio driver gave me... (and then continued with older A11 drivers)
    4) rebooted and installed manualy audio drivers (A11).

And everything is ok, even sigmatel audio control panel is present, although there is no systray icon. But when I try to plug in headphones into microphone jack, it automatically pops up and asks me, what device I had connected.

Getting internal microphone to work is pretty easy. You have to open windows sound card control panel, choose recording settings and then make sure, that microphone (not "digital microphone") is checked (selected) and its volume is maximised. Under advanced settings there is another checkbox (1. Microphone boost) that needs to be checked too. I attached an image, which should be self explanatory, although it is not English :D

But sometimes, my microphone settings reverts to defaults (selected digital microphone), which has probably something to do with launching sigmatel audio panel. So if you want to use microphone, you always better have to check, that the right one is selected.

Hope this helps ... and sorry for my english

    Hi Everyone,

I just read through 37 pages of this guide and do not see any comments geared towards my issue. First, let me say I used this thread about 10 months ago to install XP on my 1330. It works great. My warranty is about to be up and so I bought another 1330. I would like to just swap the hard drive so I do not have to reinstall everything. But the configurations are different. My current system has no fingerprint reader, no bluetooth, A/B/G intel wifi, vga webcam and Nvidia graphics. The new one has FP reader, BT, A/B/G/N intel wifi, 2.0MP webcam and integrated graphics. I am assuming that the things that are the same should just work: sound, usb, card reader, etc.

But my question is, should I uninstall the drivers for the devices that are different before swapping the drive? Such as the graphics driver. I don't know if the wifi drivers will work with the new card. You get the point. I get the system in about a week and would like to have this figured out so I don't have to spend days getting it to work like I did 10 months ago. Thanks so much in advance.

    Any ideeas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Pufulete

L.E. I've attached a print screen with the error message from the wireless driver and another print screen with bluetooth error.

Bottom line I've installed Windows Vista, but the bluetooth issue is not fixed the same problem, I've attached 2 print screens one with the installer window and another with the image that I receive when I turn off The radio button.

Could anyone help me with this issue?

Hi, Can anyone provide me some help?

I bought a XPS M1330 laptop about a week ago. I am having problems with the resolution of the screen.

I downgraded my laptop to Windows XP.

Here is the issue now. The computer works well but the screen resolution is not the best. The letters and images appear to be pixelated.
I am looking for a windows xp driver for my video card hoping this will fix the problem. I was hoping someone could guide me in the right direction where I could find the driver or perhaps provide me with some tips on how to solve the problem.

I have tried contacting Dell support but they were unable to assit me as the only provided support for the vista operating system for my machine.

My Video card is the following: Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Can you suggest any compatible drivers for the Interl 965 chipset that would work with windows xp?

Thank you in advanced for your help.

    Best,

    Johan

    Hello snowbro,

I thank you for your posting of Dell drivers, it helps me so much in determining the right drivers needed.
One thing i want to ask, about the Bluetooth driver R161378, http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=216131.

When i tried to install it, it says that i must "activate bluetooth using Fn+F2 or Radio On/Off Switch", and there was only one button "Cancel Installation".
I have tried the Fn+F2, and also the two switches on the right side of the notebook.
I've done them both, but i got no response from the installer. Do you have a solution for this? i'll be waiting for your reply. thank you!

Everything installed good. I have only one yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. It's called an SM-buscontroller, here is its hardware ID's

    Code:
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_283E&SUBSYS_02091028&REV_02
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_283E&SUBSYS_02091028
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_283E&CC_0C0500
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_283E&CC_0C05

Does anyone know which driver i have to install for the SM-buscontroller? Many thanks!

Sry I forget the intel chipset drivers :s. Problem solved!

    Hello again Everyone,

I come back with updates of my bluetooth problem. Here's the story:

I downgrade Windows Vista with Windows XP. Every other hardware is installed and worked beautifully, guided mostly by snowbro on notebookreview forum here except for one, the bluetooth.

When installing the driver (R161378), it keep asks me to switch the Bluetooth switch on (which located on the right side of the XPS laptop, saw from my view) while it's already switched on. It seems that this device is not recognized or something.

Searching and searching again from the net, found the solution of R159805 from kalistha at Dell website, where it patches the Radio On issue on Bluetooth (BT) 355. Tried this, and no luck.

I tried to open the exe installation file (R161378) on the folder BTW5_1\Win32, instead of setup.exe on folder BTW5_1 --> no luck also.

The device id stated from the Details tab of Device Manager is like this: USB\VID_413C&PID_8140\5&16299AB5&0&2. I searched the internet and talk to Larry (Dell Liaison) and found that my device is BT360, instead of BT355.

From the troubleshooting section of support.dell.com here, saw from the page source (since the button doesn't seem to work) i found that this problem of downgrading to XP doesn't have the solution yet for BT360, but they have solution for BT355, which is R159805.

Will Dell make solution in the near future for this BT360 Radio On problem? Hoping answers from someone on this forum who might know the future solution from Dell.

Any suggestion would be helpful. Thank you!

Btw, anyone know why the packed file R159805's size (153 KB) is bigger than the unpacked files inside it which is only 2 files, one with 59 KB and the other 1 KB? is it normal to have this kind of case which i assume as compression? Is it supposed to have the files unpacked greater size than the packed one? or perhaps the files inside were corrupt, and then it would be the reason why it's not working on me?

To snowbro, kalistha, and others who might have their bluetooth works beautifully on Windows XP, could you share your experience here? Help very much needed.
And to pufulete, have you found the solution of our same problem here? if you have, could you post it here too?

    Thank you All!

    hi everyone,

I am trying to downgrade from vista to xp pro.

I have a original xp pro cd. so no sp1 or 2 is included. I have changed the mode in the bios to ata and disabled some other option in order for it to work (as the bios required me to) and i still continously get bsod and errors when trying to install XP. Now do I need to just hit F6 to install the raid drivers? or do I need to download some drivers and put them on a usb stick and hit f6 when prompted for raid drivers?

I was under the impression that if you changed the option in the bios to ata that you did not need the drivers??

    Please help!!!

    thanks

You have to format your drive !!!

You dont have to use sata mode it doesnt affect your installation. I used ATa all the time and it went smoothly. I recomend to have only one partition when installing.

Just thought I'd toss in my two cents...

I finally decided to pull the string and install XP. Finding the right drivers has been a complete pain in the butt. It took me 2 hours to find the right wireless drivers.

I know a couple others said they couldn't get the wireless drivers to work either, so hopefully this will help.

    1. Go to support.dell.com and enter your service tag. This will show you your hardware.

    2. Don't download drivers from support.dell.com - the drivers are for Vista and they won't work. They're even likely to screw it up so the right drivers wont work even when you do find them. DON'T DOWNLOAD DRIVERS FROM DELL FOR YOUR SERVICE TAG.

    3. Once you see the list of hardware in your machine for your service tag, search the manufacturer's site for the correct drivers. For instance, to find my wireless drivers I had to google "Intel wireless drivers" and on their site find the drivers for GM965 for XP Pro. Once I found these, it worked perfect.

hey ever1. very late post but got EVERYTHING to work like a CHARM on XP. and the machine runs like a dream on XP. so glad i downgraded. or shall i say upgraded. Only 1 problem, if you would even call it that I dunno.

It is in regards to the power management options. (not the lid, i got that set to standby when i close it). its got to do with setting when the machine goes into standby or turns of hdd when plugged into power or by battery. when i set the different times and turn the computer off then on again it will not save the settings. And also when i change he settings to save battery the screen does not go darker etc like it did on vista.

any1 know how to fix this?

Hi All - and especially snowbro

Have successfully downgraded to XP from Vista following advice in these posts, using only Dell drivers. (mostly from Vostro 1500)

Everything is working weel except for the audio!
No matter what I try I cannot get audio to work.
I have followed the actions in post #365 but absoluterly no joy.

I have the SigmaTel HD Audio installed.
Have tried drivers version A08, A09, A11 and even A13, but nothing seems to work.
When I install driver and reboot, it seems the the SigmaTel audio service is trying to start and then stops (I get an error 31 in the Hardware Management screen - Yell exclamation mark next to Sigmatel High Def CODEC)

I installed the Intel chipset drivers and have also tried installing the KB835221 patch beforehand.

    Anyone with ideas please?

    Thanks
    KK

The procedure it is a great find and if properly followed, it is a lot easier than slipstrem a disk or use the F6.
You are genius Kent1146, thank you very much!
I added some updated info on Kent1146's post. The updated info is in RED.
