Thnks pal!

Anybody else having an issue with a device driver trying to load but not being able to be found?
-
I have a huge problem. I can't play games that need a big graphic effort from the 8600GT because it heats up so much causing me the crashes. It happened with Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Sega Rally, Need For Speed Pro Street (something like that, the new), and even with Battlefield 2(which is relatively old comparing with the games I mentioned. Looks like I bought this expensive machine just to play Medal Of Honor Allied Assault.
-
Might be a faulty heatsink, what kinda temps are you getting? Playing BioShock mine dosent seem to go over 90C, Once I accidenattly had something sitting in front of the heat exhaust and I actually got a burn mark on my finger where I touched the speaker port ontop of the laptop, Asus replaced my heatsink and temps have dropped about 4C idle, havent tested under load yet.
-
The strangest thing is that the temps do not pass 85ºC. I'm waiting for a reply from Asus support. The only thing they told me to do last time was to update my bios to 2.09.
-
BIOS 300
Update CPU micro code
Set the Super IO IR TX is active Low for manufacture default
released 11/21 -
mine's doing the same thing. nevermind COD4 or bioshock.
im crashing during fifa 2008, C&C3 (both on high settings) and timeshift (on medium) as well as portal (medium).
its getting really annoying. im gonna try to do the bios update otherwise i dont know what else i could possibly do. and yes ive got the newest card drivers. -
this is getting annoying. bios updated to 3.00 and just tried ut3 and crashed 4 minutes in.
supposedly some games arent made to run on anything less than 60hz refresh rate? i dunno but if thats the case, past running applications half the time, this is a paperweight. -
Battery Problem: I flipped over my laptop the other day to change out the optical drive with a hard drive when doing so I bump the ac cord and laptop shut off. I was able to turn it back on but laptop will not run off battery anymore, it will run off modular battery but the main battery will not work even with 100% charge. Does anyone have any suggestions. What does battery recalibration do how do I do it, I read somewhere that you have to discharge the battery to do recal but I can not because battery will not power notebook, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

This is a known issue and has been mentioned in several threads including this one. Here is a link to another thread where this is mentioned:

As of now no real cure is known..You can do RMA for a new main battery. We are hoping Asus will one day fix this for good. -
hi guys,
just to revive the thread what CPU temps r everyone having for the V1S?
mine's idle (under battery saving) is 58-60 degrees...is that too high?
and also, when i use NHC to check the CPU and HDD temps...it only shows the CPU temp...under the HDD temp, it only shows "..."
cheers. -
That looks a bit high for a 15.4 inch but I don't have experience with the V1S. How long have you had it / did you clean up the dust regularly?
NHC has some compatibility issues if you use XP I suggest MobileMeter if you use Vista, I don't know what you could use for HDD temp. -
yeah that's what i thought...i have only had it for a month so it shldnt be a dust clogging problem...
ive decided to use RMClock instead to monitor my CPU temp...though it doesnt feel as user friendly as NHC...and it doesnt show battery wear either (which is impt for V1 users )
ill check out mobilemeter later...
Edit: errrr, r u talking abt the one which is last updated in 2004? lol... -
Yes RMCLock does show batt wear.
And yes that's what I'm talking about, it only works in XP but it works well and is very small. -
really? i cant seem to find the battery wear status anywhere...whereabts in RMClock is it?
unfortunately, im using vista...so mobilemeter wouldnt work for me -
Double click the app icon. Select from the tree to the left Battery Info > Batt Device XXXXXX where XXXXX is your model.
-
yeah i did that...but i still cant find it...lol...maybe im blind...
r u talking abt the same battery wear % that is shown in NHC?? -
Yes it's the same. There are only two reasons for you not seeing it:
1. You are using an older version of RMClock. Download the latest: http://cpu.rightmark.org/download/rmclock_230_bin_upd1.exe
2. You are not using RMClock. There is also a thing called CPU rightmark.
Or your batt might be screwy and not communicate properly with Windows. But that'll show up in NHC in the same way. -
hmmm, i still cant see it...lol
Attached Files:
-
-
Oh I didn't realize you needed RMCLock to do the math for you.
The wear level in percent is: (Designed Capacity - Fully Charged Capacity) / Designed Capacity * 100 % -
OHHHH...right hahah...sry, im a noob
-
No prob. In general, the wear level is defined as how much the max charge the battery can hold has dropped from its designer-prescribed value.
-
yep got it!
btw, i dont seem to suffer the battery wear issues that many V1 users have...my wear level has always been hovering at 4-5% and im able to use my modular battery with no probs i.e NO modular kill main battery issue...
also, for some ppl who face the problem of shutting down your notebook but unable to actually turn it off (screen turns off, LEDs and hard drive still on), try installing the new webcam driver...it worked for me!
i am really satisfied with my V1S...seems that ive bought a troublefree one!! -
1. BIOS version.
2. Exact battery types (use RMClock to get them, for instance).
3. Motherboard ID/revision. I'm not sure how you can obtain this, I have a small software called BIOS Agent that also gives me the motherboard ID.
4. ATK driver version that you have installed?
What OS are you using, btw?
Thanks a lot, on behalf of the other V1S users. -
Aside from my battery completely dying, I also have had no significant wear on my V1S, hovering at about 2-3% on both the old and new batts despite being constantly on charge and usually being drained down to just 20-30% left most days.
-
yes, the V1s battery wear on the main seems to be resetting. But the point is that rooneyrox can use his modular with no problems -- that's the good news.
-
yeah, im able to plug in my modular battery whenever i like to get more battery time and unplug whenever i dont need it...the main battery still charges properly to 100% and drains down...
1. BIOS 209
2. You can have a look at my previous thumbnail...shows the battery info...the serial no. is 78N0AGXXXXXX if that's of any help...
3. 64-0100-009999-00201111-122607-Crestline-V1S00000...i tink that's what you want?
4. I'm not sure...but I'm definitely using the latest one from the ASUS download site...
Im using Vista Business 32bit...
On a side note, I was wondering if the location where ppl buy their ASUS notebooks mattered. I bought mine in Hong Kong and I think it's one of the biggest markets of ASUS since it's a techie paradise So if there are any fixes to be released, HK would be one of the first to get them...i dunno, just a guess... -
Yep, I had forgotten about the thumb What is the ID of your modular battery? Probably that's also important. If you insert it RMClock will read it just for the main batt.
3. I don't really think that's what I want, that's the BIOS ID. But I see that is what Bios Agent gives, I thought it also gave the motherboard revision. I'm not sure how you could obtain the MB revision, though...
One more thing: did you ever let your modular batt drain to empty while it was in your notebook? If not, that might be the reason for which your main hasn't died. By all means, do not test it if you didn't do it! It is very likely it will kill it. Just be happy that your usage pattern allows you to do that. -
ill post the battery id later cos i dont hav it with me right now...
yes i did drain the modular battery completely...after charging, the notebook will use up the modular battery first (shows 0% left) and then move on to drain the main battery... -
The specs on this laptop look great, but I ran into a ton of complaints about the system being unable to play games, see this NewEgg page.
What are others thoughts on this? Have you been able to play games without these problems? Is this a known issue that's been resolved? -
PCWizard 2008 will show the motherboard version. I have a V1s-B1, and it is version 1.0.
PCWizard Website
HTH! FWIW I haven't had any of the issues that others have had on this laptop. I don't have a modular battery so I can't speak to that.
-
Nice, if you did drain it and then both batts work fine then you are indeed not suffering from the problem. If you post the modular batt ID and also the motherboard version, then every V1S user will have a "recipe" for what to request from ASUS when they fix their computers the next time for the battery issue. That's my intention with requesting this info from you. I'll rep you for your effort until now, thanks.
-
thanks E.B.E! ill post the battery id ASAP cos im overseas right now...dont have the battery with me...ill try the PCwizard 2008 as well...
as for sdaigneault's question, ive had no probs so far with playing games on this notebook, including COD4 im not very techy so i cant give you frame rates and other info, but you can try to ask around...however, my experience may not be the same for you...as you can see, ppl differ in their experiences with the V1S e.g. the modular kills main battery issue, faulty graphics card issue i.e. Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding (but this can be fixed by RMAing it back to ASUS and they'll replace the card) both of which i didnt experience...
so it's really up to u...r u willing to take the risk? if u dont face those problems, u have one hell of a notebook!! if unfortunately u do, then u might have to make a few calls to the ASUS support team...but for me, i dont really mind bcos the specs and the looks of the notebook at such a great price really cant be matched!!
im one very very happy V1S owner... -
owners of the V1S... how is gaming? i've read that it crashes the laptop. is this true?

RMA is the only know way of getting through the problem. And not every laptop has the problem, it seems that are some VGA cards are faulty, but ASUS don't admit that on most support emails, so the only way is only RMA, as I said.
I had the problem and sent the laptop, I got a brand new VGA. -
awesome, thanks guys
-
I just got my V1S and I'm absolutely loving it. I primarily use it for web development and the occasional World of Warcraft when I'm at a friends place. I just have a couple of questions.
-- Do any of you guys use the AMT feature? and if not, how do u get rid of the AMT status from the taskbar on startup?
-- Did your V1S come with stickers all over the left and right palm rest? I have a a huge "spill proof keyboard" ad on mine and something that looks like an ASUS warranty sticker. Did any of you try to remove them and if so, what did you use to get them off without ruining your notebook.
Thanks in advance! -
hey sisconda, welcome to the V1S family! glad u loved yr notebook as much as i do...
to disable the AMT feature, navigate to C:\Program Files\Intel\AMT...there's a file called disable.reg...double click it and run it...basically, it works by adding a registry key to the registry to disable AMT from autostarting...
yes, there are lots of stickers! i pulled all of them off after making sure that removing them wouldnt void my warranty....u can have a look at the thread here... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=213038
as E.B.E mentioned, the Windows and Intel stickers r a bit hard to remove...but i got them off just fine...just use a bit more strength!! if there r some sticky residue left behind, try using some scotch tape to dab it off...not too hard though...the other stickers came off pretty easily... -
wow i think V1S is the best deal, and love it too...but i get into a problem i cannot solve so easly, see
http://communities.intel.com/message/2624#2624
http://softwarecommunity.intel.com/...rums/ShowThread.aspx?PostID=30248154#30248154
i dont know what to do, did anybody of you get into such problem as ME Error during boot up
and btw, my Asus is pretty loud, how can i improve this? i tried to boost the system as much as possible, by removing unused programmes and overall tunig, now its a bit better, but still loud at all (most time the fan is running on Full), is this connected with the Me Error ? do you recoment the original graphic driver, or the from laptopvideo2go.com ? cause i think my V1S wasnt so loud all the time, in the beginning... -
Good Luck.. -
Hi Guys, Just got a new V1S and I'm considering increasing my memory does anyone know if Corsair VS2GSDS667D2 2gb modules are compatible with this laptop and how do you guys see if you you have versions A1 or B1 all I can see in PcWizard is version 1

Anyone install Vista SP1 on their V1S, yet? I tried it with my current installation (32-bit Ultimate), but there was an issue, so it rolled back the installation. Granted, this is with all of my software installed, as well, so it may have been due to a software or driver conflict.
My next attempt will be with a clean install of Vista (maybe 64-bit, if the Windows Home Server 64-bit connector is available by then). I was just curious if anyone else had any issues. -
DTrump,
I don't know how much this will help but I've been running Windows Server 2008 64bit edition for a couple of months now. Since it's based on the Vista codebase, I imagine you should be fine. -
-
Hello everyone, first time posting in this thread. Quick question, has anyone with 32-bit Vista try to install the Secure Camera Login software that U6S has? If anyone tried it out or will try it out, please post a quick first look experience.
