yeah i know but i got it to boot normally again thank god...the v1s is not garbage at all, just my situation with the battery failing again after using the multi bay batter, and having to RMA the laptop with in the 1st month of owning it...besides these issues i am perfectly happy with the laptop...

I asked the same question to Ken @ GenTech. He assured me that the only differences are: larger HD on VX2S & exterior bells & whistles.

How does the ASUS Notebook Accessory 6-Cell Battery (multi bay battery) work? Does it switch between primary battery and multi bay battery automatically without shutting down? Are people who own it happy with it? Does it works as it is supposed to?

Thinking about getting a V1S but wondering if anyone has comments about the Docking Station. Does it support an external monitor, like a 20" widescreen? Any other configuration tips for a new purchase (disable Turbo)?

Any thoughts how it compares to the Sager NP2090? Thanks!

Eeps! Does this mean the VX2s has the same awful flex and right click problem as the V1s?

The docking station is great. It has a DVI connection, which the V1S doesn't, so connecting and external monitor is that much better. I have a 22 inch wide screen on mine. If your going to be constantly connecting and disconnecting the notebook from peripherals then it' a no brainer.

You can use a DVI-HDMI adapter with the V1S - keep meaning to get one.

Here's how it works, if you have both batteries in the laptop, the 6 cell multi-bay battery is drained first, all the way to zero. Then the laptop will automatically use the main 8 cell battery. The laptop will not shutoff, it will be a smooth and seamless transition.

In terms of charging, if both batteries are completely discharged, and in the laptop, the main 8 cell battery will charge first to 100% then will charge the 6 cell multi-bay battery.

I just received my V1S today, and I thought I should format it to get rid of bloatware. Didn't someone write a guide how to format and setup a brand new v1s? I can't seem to find it...

    ASAP :D

none specifically, but the G1S bloatware thread is a good place to start as it has the same asus programs. Also, check out the windows vista tweaks thread if you have vista. it will improve performace significantly.

Just format it, reinstall Windows Vista (you'll probably need to get the Vista DVD anywhere else) and put the Asus driver disc in. Select all the drivers and applications you want to be installed and click on "start". Voilà, that's all.

hi there, i have a V1S (Geforce 8600M GT), i would like to install the newest forceware for my graphicard (cause there is an Vista issue with Truespace 7, and newer forceware should fix it)

my current forceware is 101.38 downloaded from asus.com, but the newest fw is 165.xx which i cant install (it says, no supported drivers), i didnt know the long time why, till i runned (use IE)

    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us

which told me, that it requires a special driver from the manufacturer, and the drivers from nvidia.com wont be installed...

is there any way to get the newest ForceWare?

You can use the file modifications on the http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ website to allow you to install new drivers on your notebook.

It's because of the graphics drivers. Install other ones.

Intel AMT has nothing to do with performance.

I got my new Asus V1S-B1 two days ago from Excaliber with all the accessories and I couldn't be happier with everything. I love the docking station. I have used desktops all my life. I bought my gf a laptop last Christmas but this is the first one I have ever owned. I waited a long time to find the perfect one. Well worth the money spent. There is one problem however I am a bit of a perfectionist and in my excitement of my new "toy" I changed some things around before inspecting everything. For my own sanity I would like to return it to its factory state. I noticed there are a couple cds. My question, will using the recovery disk return everything the way it came to me or do I have to install drivers and other progs from a seperate disk?

Nope, During the Vista install, At the end it will ask you to put in the driver disc, It will copy over the necasary drivers then intstall them as part of the windows install, Be aware that there will be a very long black screen upon your first boot as it configures itself.

Elvenone: I believe there is a program that comes with the NB that will ask you to point to the file (bios update) and will update it for you, or walk you through the process. (Never tried it so I am not positive, don't quote me.)

Wow matt_h1 thanks for the quick reply. After I follow the prompt to insert driver disk, I won't have to choose which ones to install will I? And after these steps will all the original progs be installed. Sorry if I am repeating I am trying to understand.

Im 99% sure it will install the correct drivers and programs that came as default, When windows finally does boot a command prompt window may appear saying something about a patch, Dont do anything, leave it, let it run, it may take over half an hour, it will restart when its done. I was very confused when it did this to me but after it ran all of the Asus utilities on the windows disc started working.

I remember that some of you guys were having trouble with using the modular bay battery and the regular battery, as in that the regular battery would short out when the modular bay battery was fully used or something.

How did you guys fix this? I was using my modular bay battery and now I can't use my regular battery alone anymore.

It hasn't been fixed yet.I have the same problem and Asus had me send them the main battery for replacement. I am still waiting for a new main battery to come from Asus. They recieved my old one on Monday and I still haven't heard anything from them. I doubt very seriously if it will fix the problem anyway.

I have not seen to many other companies that offer a modular battery solution. Of course being an Asus fanboy I haven't looked around much either. Seems like a silly reason to wait. (I mean not to offend) Why do you think you have a defective docking station zoku88?

Does anyone know the use of the Preload folder under the C:\ drive? When I received mine from the factory it had quite a few subfolders. I reinstalled with both their Operating Systems and Drivers cd and now there is only one subfolder . A folder related to Turbo Memory. Also how about the Raid Tool folder?

Heh, cuz the only thing it does as a docking station is to power my laptop. I can't use anything connected to it, which is a pain. Pushing the dock/undock button on the station doesn't seem to do anything. Windows thinks that my laptop is docked, though, so I have no idea what's going on.

In regards to the Fn/control keys, Just pop them off and swap them over, then use a program like this http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=150016 to control the keys, Also I think there is a way to do it under windows but google could probally tell you how.

After about a month of use It didnt bother me anymore though.

Oh I see zoku88. Hmm mine seems to be alright. Although does your laptop seem to really lock in. When I attach mine it seems to just sit there and is easily removed without the aid of the mechanical eject button. I will have to check to see if the undock button works a little later. I have always just powered down.

I just got my V1S-B1 (yay) and have some questions:

I had Gentech install Windows and drivers, except Robson, because I heard it actually is slower with Turbo. Anyway, now I plan to remove bloatware, tweak windows, replace any drivers that might have better versions out there, and make any bios adjustments.

From what I've read so far, it sounds like reinstalling windows is recommended for removing bloatware, but I didn't get a windows disc, so that's not happening. Can't I just use add/remove programs (or whatever it is in Vista)? Is there anything worth keeping?

GPU: I'm confused about the forceware and drivers. On the laptopvideo2go link, I found where they explain that the modded .inf files allow you to use any driver, but I noticed the listed GPUs did not includee the GeForce 8000 series, so it would seem that does not apply, or maybe it's just because the page is outdated but the mod still works? Do you have to actually modify the files yourself, or do you just download the modded version of the forceware? Is forceware just another name for a driver? See, I told you I was confused  Once I get that figured out, is there a specific forceware/driver version that is recommended for the 8600GT?

Are there any other tests or updates, BIOS or otherwise that people recommend to get this system optimized?

    Thanks a bunch in advance!
