Am i the only one that having this problems with mu touch pad? If my touchpad is diabled (and the eye is not lighting) and i close the laptop screen, my computer doesnt do anything except to turn off the screen. When i open the screen again the red eye is not lighting, BUT i can use the touch pad, when i then click the disabled/enabled touch pad button it sais "touch pad enabled" (and the eye lights up like if the touch pad was disabled before) then i have to click a second time to turn it off.

Just a long shoot, but could it just be the source/connection from where the music is streaming? Otherwise I'm not sure about your problem, my sound's been fine so far. But I have heard of similar issues when I read throughout this thread.

Yes there are alternatives, Everest Home (Free), Speedfan, Thermal Analysis Tool (TAT), Notebook Hardware Control (NHC), RMclock, and AsusNBProbe.

    Have a try with those.

I just got EVEREST up and running, just been surfing the net for the past few hours, no hardcore programs. CPU 1 and 2 at 52C and GPU at 62C.

LOL I should of known about the ASUS one, I'm running a G2S-A1.
Any ways, sadly probe just says temp is 'normal'. :(
Speedfan shows temps 20C less than what EVEREST shows. Ironically, Speedfan doesn't even show my fan speeds either.

I'll try out the rest soon enough.

    Thanks milestone.

I cant seemm to get my hotkeys working. The only one that's working is the POWER button. Anyone knows how i can fix this? And the Eye doesn't glow, even if im using my touchpad.

If it's by downloading driver, i need to know the name of the driver.

Sevie check out the link below:

Should have all the drivers you need. The touchpad drivers are the ones you want to sort out the light. Download atk hotkey drivers to sort out the hot keys.

    Cheers

    Umm, this is weird right.

But once I startup my Asus it's fine, however - if I like restart it or just turn it off and then immediatelty turn back on my ASUS doesn't turn back on. I leave it for 30 mins, then it goes back on... But it's really annoying me now and I was wondering if anyone else came accross that problem?

I'm considering sending my ASUS back and also getting it slightly upgraded with a better GFX card, IF the problem isn't fixable...

I purchased a G2 last night. I update my nvidia drivers(163,75) and everything seems to be in order. I also downloaded the new BIOs 209. However, I'm haivng trouble running CS:SOURCE. I get hit with lag despite a constant 40-60 ping. I also hear a loud BLEEP-BLEEP when I push keys. The problem seems to be coming from the CPU but I have no idea. Any help, please?

I might have ****ed up on the INF.

I am about to be a new Asus G2s-A1 notebook owner and was wondering how hard it would be to put in a memory upgrade. I remember reading that one memory slot is beneath the keyboard.

Next....a good place to purchase Vista 64

60 years old and and it's still fun....

I wish I could say also that I'm an ASUS G2S-A1 (w/upgraded HD) but thanks to a guy called DANNY LI, I'm not...

I found out that MilestonePC has an AWFUL Customer service compared to other computer stores (even ALIENWARE!!!!! omfg)... he just refused to send my computer again thanks to a problem with the (first) delivery that couldn't be prevented, even though I told him to give me a new invoice and everything to pay it....

and now he's not answering me...already sent an e-mail to [email protected]

It's extremely easy to pop off the keyboard on a G2S. There are three catches on the top and you can release them with a micro screw driver. The 2nd slot is accessible from the bottom of the notebook.

On another note had anyone experienced driver power state failue errors? Ive had them a couple of times anyone have any experience on this? Im guessing it has something to do with unsigned drivers.

    Hi guys,

I don't like the video quality of my webcam in "LifeFrame". I have tried multiple ways to use the webcam....but failed.

Are you having the same issue or is it something again with the european model. Did someone of you manage to use the webcam with some other software???

By the way anyone knows if Vista shows the webcam as XP use to. I don't see my webcam in "my computer". Does anyone of you???

Your welcome dude, happy to help. I have a quick question, not really a dilema, the power button on the media buttons at the front of the key board, is that like the dell media connect button where its a quick load for only multi media? because for me it just boots up regular vista, then opens the media center, not really fast :/ is this right?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think so - that's what happens for mine.

The thing I heard was that powering on via that button optimizes the desktop for multimedia purposes. What exactly it does I do not know, but I imagine it has to do with the noise it makes/the power it consumes/brightness/processing power/stuff like that.

I also have a question - I'm looking to try the Crysis SP demo and I was wondering if it was possible to OC with the newest 169.xx BIOS. If so, could someone please outline the steps/point me to where I could find them?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

There was supposed to be a working InstaFun program like Dell's MediaDirect... However, it's crap and totally not worth using. So most people just uninstall it. Also, to get the latest Crysis drivers, just go to laptopvideo2go.com. I can confirm that you can overclock on it.

dammit, I managed to get 169.01 to OC, but the drivers are crashing on me when I try to play Crysis OC'd. Flickering, LCD goes insane, drivers crash and recover, but have to restart to get it back to normal. I'm new to this stuff, but is there a known cause for this specific issue?

You probably didn't do a clean install of the driver... Uninstall and read the how-to do a clean install of video drivers on the laptopvideo2go.com site.

@hauton and theros: Thank you :) It is kinda of intersting because when you hit the button, there is a rainbow Asus logo that comes up, but it still goes to regular vista, o well, it would be cool, ty

Another quick question, I was testing my laptop last night and I found that it doesnt go to sleep, then hibernation. It has been set for that but once I closed the lid it went to sleep, but 30 seconds later woke back up and never went through the cycle, any ideas? When I open the lid and log in, it makes this loud beep and then refreshes the screen, then its fine.

I think you set it to go into sleep instead of hibernation? Sleep doesn't shut it down so the fans will keep running... haha, that happened to me once, and I thought my laptop bag was on fire....

Instant Fun is supposed to work like Dell's Media Direct. IE, you don't have to open up XP or Vista to play media files. You would just start it up using the front power button and it would boot into InstaFun, however the program itself is broken and doesn't work...

Tried a fresh reinstall, I'm getting nothing better than 550 stable, when people are reporting 600+ easy. I tried unlinking Core and Shader clocks and that didn't work - it just reset itself to the linked speeds immediately after I saved settings. Maybe I should try to boot in unlinked clocks.

Blegh, I must suck at this. I'm thinking of either going for a reinstall of the drivers again, reinstalling Vista from the recovery disk, installing XP or just giving up.

I just ordered Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Does anybody have any preperation advise. I am playing mostly older flight sims games like IL2 1946 or subsim games like silent hunter III & 4. 32 bit version running my stuff fine, but got 4 gigs of ram and would like to utilize my hardware to the max.

4 gigs is really overkill for games like those. Because most games aren't coded to use all 4 gigs anyway.... The standard 2 gigs is aplenty. Plus aren't they a lot of driver issues with 64 bit?

    Hi,

I got my G2S a couple weeks ago and I like it a lot. I noticed a lot of people recommended www.laptopvideo2go.com for graphics card drivers. I went there but after looking around I was overwhelmed by the amount of drivers and versions available. So I'm wondering which one is a good stable version for the G2s? And is it typically better then the one latest one asus has released?

    Thanks.

uh.. the stock one is really quite old, but the most stable. The best drivers right now are the 169.04 ones.

I realize that 4 gigs is overkill, but future games will require more ram, and would like to configure for future games. Plus I just like messing around with my system. I also read here that people who have installed 64 bit on there G2S's have had a 30% performance gain, and are stable using original driver disk. Plus, There are some 64bit drivers available from Asus.

What I really want to know is are there any downloads I need to get, besides what Asus has on there website? or funky installation issues I need to be aware of? or can I just stick the new 64 bit Vista Ultimate disk in and start installing without much anxiety?

In general, what is the experience people have had installing Vista 64 bit?

I think that more ram would def be great. I now run at 1gb idle because of vista and all the programs I have running. I think I will upgrade to a 2gb module so ill be at 3 gigs, its always nice to have some extra zip. I was poking around and found an application called virtual camera, anyone know what its purpose is, cuz its not the webcam app as thats called life frame.

Hello, I have been looking at the G2 series for a while now. I'm 90% sure I'm going to purchase one within the next two weeks. I just have a couple of questions that i think owners of the actual product might be able to answer.

I was looking at two models in specific at Newegg:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220185
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220220

The only two differences I can see are the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (G2s) vs. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 (G2k) and the CPU L2 Cache, 4mb (G2s) vs. 2 x 512KB (G2k)

I have been refering to Chazs' thread ranking of graphics cards. I see the ATI is slightly (one spot) ahead of the NVIDIA. Is it a huge difference, or about equal?
I don't know much about CPU's, but 4mb from 2x512kb seems like a big difference. If the graphics cards are equal or close to it, is it worth the $250 for the extra Cache? Or am i missing something?

    Thanks

I'd go with the G2S if I were you. AMD CPUs aren't so good anymore and AMD Mobile CPUs especially are nowhere near Intels in terms of processing power/speed/heat/energy consumption.

I'd say if your just using it for normal operation, stick with 32 bit... There's not need for 64 bit since there are driver issues and not all program work with it.

Also, I highly doubt the G1s/G2s Gpus are upgradeable, it would make no sense since it would cut into the C90s' reign.

Just installed the 64 bit Vista Ultimate, and performance is significantly improved. However, my Joystick no longer works, and no solutions in sight. A lot of my games like Silent hunter III don't work. I've been looking at now getting the 32 bit Vista Ultimate, because apparently there is no supported driver pkg from asus for XP.

I here people are having problems installing the Vista Ultimate 32 bit version retail.
I think I'm going to use the recovery disk, and maybe considering an upgrade online, so I can use the 4 gigs of ram I bought.
I'm not really happy that I've got to buy 3 OS's, but I guess thats life...
I wish Asus would make a download available for people who want to dual boot XP and Vista 64 bit or 32 bit. So we can play legacy games and use legacy drivers until the software catches up to the new operating systems.
