You dont get a complete vista installation cd, you only get a recovery cd which contains the files that was on the computer from the beggining so that you can restore youre computer to the state it was in when you bought it.

I think I made my decision, G2S-A1 it is! (B1 upgrades not worth it!)

I want to ask you already G2S owners, would you recommend getting a spare battery right now, when I order it (I can bundle and save $50). Or is this not really worth it and when it is time for a battery, just get it then?

Thanks, I'm about to join the club!

flraer, that would probably be an issue with Windows. I've never used Vista so this might work (it does in XP). Double click on the clock's numbers, then find the tab that contains some sort of button that will allow you to sync the clock with a server's. Hope that helps! :)

meinks I have a g2s (have had it for about 1 mounth) and till now it's being a great expirience
that extra battery you should order it if you'll be in the move a lot other than that you don't need it
the battery life is about 2:10 hours ofcourse everything off EVERYTHING, touchpad, wi-fi, bluetooth, side lights, the hole deal

Yep like everyone else has said only buy the battery if you intend to use it. If your thinking of buying it just because its cheaper to do so now and your gonna use it when your current battery wears, then theres no point. Batteries tend to wear a little even when they are stored. There was a thread on here explaining how the batteries work and how to get the best out of them.

tobbis about the v209 bios update. Are you running a 64bit version of vista or a 32bit.

Also does anyone else here running a 64 bit version of vista have the touch pad lock hot key button working?

    Thanks

Im running on vista 32bit. Each time i turn on the bluetooth windows starts to search for drivers to "Bluetooth Peripheral Device", but it never finds any. But still the bluetooth device works, i can send files to my computer through bluetooth, so mayby its just a part of the device that dont work.

Yep exactly the same senario here. Yet asus say they have not come across the bug. But as im running 64 bit seems its not limited to just a particular version of vista

1.Fix the issue that can’t set HDD's master password with Fujitsu M120 HDD
2.If a HDD's user password has a character "0", the HDD password is not successfully unlocked when resuming from S3 or doing crisis recovery.
3.Fix the issue that while we InstantOn boot to OS, and enter S4, then press power button to resume from S4, and the system will abnorm
    4. Modify the OS Passive Cooling Threshold from 100'C to 95'C

so in terms of our laptops only 3 and 4 really apply unless your using a hdd password in the bios.
Well I dont have a clue what 3 is trying to say  but 4 looks like a good fix.

No not had any problems with the wireless console yet. Have you tried using the latest version of it? As an off thought whats the point of having the wireless switch on the side of the laptop if you can bypass it using the wireless console  but see if that might be causing the problem too.

you should be able to get latest version of wireless console from here hope that sorts it out.

    http://www.asustreiber.de/request.php?653

let me know if that doesnt work might know one other thing you could try.

Got it early this evening! Must say, it is much better than I could possibly fathom! Love the exterior, as well as the interior! Performed very well on many of the games benchmarks I threw at it! Love the feel of the keyboard, solid and quick to press. I typed on a Toshiba X205 (err whatever) and those keys were horrible to type on, horrible!

IMO, best ALL AROUND notebook out there!

    Very pleased with my purchase!

    Hi all

    First of all, great forum!

    Now my problem?
I've been wondering what you guys think about the sound from the speaker when playing movies? For me it's not loud enough. I've only tried dvd at media center and windows media player yet. I've maxed out the mixer and the player itself and I can hear the sound from the movie but I think it's not loud enough. When I play music in those speakers, it's fine (alot louder) and same goes for the games.

am I missing something? Any hidden mixer or speaker boost somewhere I don't know of?

    Best regards
    Rafn

Hey i figured this might be another good place to ask. I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate on my G2S-A1 and after a couple days I installed the latest video drivers that are available with the modified .inf files. Shortly after i noticed my G2S logo (under the touchpad) was no longer glowing red.

Reinstalled the ATK and Direct console programs and had no luck, though I didn't actually uninstall them first. I'll probably try that right now but is there something more obvious that I'm missing?

Great laptop otherwise though. Running Bioshock 1680x1050 max settings and having a blast.

Hey, this isn't really related to the G2S, but in my My Music folder, I have a bunch of empty subfolders. Does anyone know of a good way to automatically delete all of these empty folders. It would take me forever to go through and do this manually.

I'm not sure where I remember seeing this, or if it is at all any bit correct, but I seem to remember seeing that WASD keys could light up too? I this true or a figment of my imagination?

Also is there a way to sync the Direct Flash to flash with music played through WMP?

THe WASD keys cant light up, the red is pnly painted on. I think that the red light are synced when you play music in wmp (or i am just imagin it all), but it is done pretty bad, they cant flash fast.

ch1525 do you have files in the my music folder. Otherwise why not delete the my music folder and then create a new folder called my music.

Zlog did you get the touchpad light working? If not uninstall previous touchpad driver and install the following http://www.asustreiber.de/download.php?view.396
You must have atk media atk generic drivers and atk hotkeys drivers for touchpad light to work.

mrbandersnatch will run test when I get some time and let you know the results.

    Mrbandersnatch to answer your question

    22.963 on ac power
    22.963 on batt power

Mrbandersnatch is trying to see if the g2s suffers from the same bug as the g1s. Where the g1s if run on battery performs better in cpu terms then if run on ac power. From the test results it doesnt seem like the g2s does have that bug but would be nice to double confirm that with other results from us g2s owners

Yes, Dappa, some of the folders have files in them, but many of them do not. I figured there would be a program to delete these empty folders but wasn't sure how to find one.

Is there an extra plug in that WMP has to use? The lights don't flash when I listen to any music. However they do when I play Freecell (who would of figured a game like freecell uses directx :p)

Ch1525 Just had an idea not sure if it would work. Try sorting the files by size that way the folders with files will be towards the top and the empty files will be towards the bottom of the list. Then you can find the first empty folder in the list and drag the cursor down and highlight from there down to the last folder in the list. Then you can delete all the highlighted folders.

By the way has anyone experienced the blue screen of death on thier g2s yet? Happened twice now each time saying power state failure anyone got any ideas?

    Lovin' the G2S baby!

I do have a question though. While I'm on battery and on Battery Saving Mode, I turn down the brightness to save power; however, after awhile the screen reverts back to full brightness? How do I keep that from reverting back? THX! :)

I made a thread of this but seems like most of the experts would be here...

Hello all, alright. I've owned my G2S-A1 for about two months now and haven't had any major problems with it however within the last few days I have had a problem w/ my color on my desktop and in IE windows etc. Also when running Lost Planet my frame rate has dropped significantly. The problems in a bit more detail are as follows:

    1. Color-periodically when I start up my computer or bring it back from a "sleep" state my desktop which normally contains alot of grayish/blueish themes w/ some white in it is somewhat messed up. The lighter gray-silverish tones are now a light sandy color and in IE windows etc. where it's typically white, there it looks more yellow/golden. To fix this I right click on desktop (Vista OS) then click NVIDIA Control Panel. Next I click "Video & Television" and then click "adjust video color settings." On this window I click restore defaults and my color is back to normal however, usually the next time I restart or wake my computer the color is messed up again.

    2. In Lost Planet: Extreme Condition I run it on DX 10 and have been able to play it w/ decent settings and live with about an avg of 22 frames per second because it's a third person shooter, however since I noticed this color problem, when I try to play this game the framerate has dropped right around 11 FPS under the same settings. I have even reduced the settings somewhat and have had little change. Even stranger is that while in the game, the upper left fourth of my screen (if divided into 4 boxes) is blurry and I can see a definite line of where it goes from normal to the blurry section.

I don't know if these problems are related but I would assume they have to do w/ a problem in my graphics card but I'm not exactly an expert, any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Hmm interesting. First thing I would try if you havnt already is to update the video drivers. If your running the lastest drivers then maybe try uninstalling them and restarting it.

Thx for the reply, I just checked through "Let Windows search for driver updates" or whatever it is and it says I'm already using the best driver right now. If I pick unistall the driver does the file to install the driver still remain or do I have to go somewhere and download it again? I'm pretty newb when it comes to knowledge on drivers, lol sorry. Any other suggestions from anyone are still welcome by all means...

Ok, nevermind, I'm a moron. A couple days ago I took my lappy to class so I changed my power option to "battery saving mode," typically when I plug back in it automatically changes to "high performance" but apparently it didn't go back this time so I just manually changed the power option and played Lost Planet and it seemed to run normally again. Sorry for the waste of time lol.

Most, if not all, drivers and other essentials can be found at Asus's support page. Enjoy :)

Thanks for the suggestion Dappa. Doesn't look like I was able to sort the folders by size for some reason. I just went ahead and deleted the empty ones manually. Didn't take as much time as I though it might.
