I just got my asus g2s yesterday. It had no preinstalled os (my request) so ive done a clean install of vista business. Then I installed the drivers from the asus cd. Now for some reason my vista score is all of 1.2 . And how do I get that red light working in the touchpad, im assuming its because the drivers are not installed properly.
If anyone can also recommend which program to use to test the ram that would help.
Thanks

Cat jumped on my screen, then jumped straight off the screen onto the carpet. I couldnt believe it, everything looked fine, then I noticed on the black background a white hazy area when viewing off angle and a paw print in white on the black.
I then took a very soft cloth and massaged the area for a few minutes and it went away, gotta love LCD's lol. Whew. -
1.2???? i get 4.7 (its the harddrive that got 4.7), but im having vista ultimate on mine.
-
Not that I take much notice of the vista scores but I got it sorted.
processor 5.1
ram 4.8
graphics from 1.0 to now 5.9
gaming graphics from 1.0 to 5.5
hard disk 5.2
so now overal from 1.0 to 4.8
but still having trouble with getting the touchpad lock button to work and still no light in the tochpad logo. -
Can anyone run Bioshock? I did the steam download and its crapping out, cant get it to run past the airplane scene..
-
any one here running 64 bit vista who did a self install? Have you got the touchpad status light working? Which drivers did you use or did you simply use the touchpad drivers from the cd supplied
-
I just ordered my G2S-A1 yesterday!!! I can't wait for it to arrive!
I'm a little disappointed that they don't put the TV tuner in the US versions, though. Are any of you using TV tuners and if so, any suggestions? I need a cheap one since I spent all my money on the G2S!!!!! -
I don't understand what the Hell is Asus doing.
In us the G2S-A1 model has no TV-tuner but a 1920x1200 High resolution screen and comes with Vista HP.
In Europe they have the Asus G2S-7R024C with TV-tuner but 1400x900 resolution and Vista HP.
In Australia they have the G2S-7R067G the same as the European except it comes with pre-installed Vista Ultimate.
Why can Asus have one standard International Model??? I am really disappointed as the European version is the worst of all the models.
I just don't understand the logic for having different models for different regions. -
Ordered mine A1 yesterday from ZipZoomFly together w Hitachi 200gb 7200rpm drive. XP64 goes there. I just slipstreamed Intel Matrix SATA mobile drivers in to XP64 cd. Vista64 drivers may work w XP64 since both are based on W2K3 core. Once I have all drivers figured out, I'll post it here w all files neccesary.
XP64 so far gave me most power and stability (months wihout restart on my video editing workstation). Although I do litle gaming sometimes (use to play EVE 8 hours a day - that was a job by itself ) I'll be using A1 power and beautiful display for HD video capture (Adobe OnLocation) and some editing.
Future upgrade will be 4GB ram. Wonder if Santa Rosa support faster memory. -
Any one know anything about the touchpad issue?
-
Got the A1 today.. Most stylish laptop in its class. There is absolutelly no competition.
Does anyone elses HDD getting hot? After running Vista for 10minutes I removed harddrive and almost burned my fingers.
Installation of XP64 took about 5 minutes . -
What the heck?! How did you get yours so fast, matezz???!?
I ordered mine from zipzoomfly on Tuesday night and they called me today to verify the address and said it would ship out today, but it still says "Packed" on the order status. I even sprung for the 2 day shipping. I'm getting sad!
Anyway, yours didn't happen to have a TV tuner, did it? Any other surprise accessories? -
In that empty TV tuner space I would rather have 2nd HDD for raid 0.
But I am extremely happy how fast and responsive the laptop is with xp64 sp2. I got all essential drivers installed. Just need to figure out the camera and memory card reader. After patching *.inf i was able to install latest nvidia drivers. Battery calibration also done using bios utility. -
Oh, well I guess that makes sense then. Mine did ship out on Friday. Looks like I'll be getting it on Tuesday!! I can't wait!!!
Too bad we don't get a TV tuner? Do you think it has something to do with that FCC deal coming up soon? About the analog broadcast signals? I don't know why they would include it in Europe and not here. -
So from what i gather, no windows XP?
-
I gets a litte warn when you play with it for about 2 or more hours -
I do not have BF 2142. I have read somewhere under G1S post that there is something that needs to be done to play BF. Either inf modification or something. Sorry dunno exactly what.
Dapp69 yes i am using Vista 64 and my eye logo light is working. Onlything that does not work is the Touch Pad lock button Upper right corner far left button. I used standard stock driver from the CD.
Vista 64bit installation does take on average of 15 mintues. Reason being that you already have all the files on the system already. Just need to unlock them with a 64 bit dvd.
To test your memory use vistas built in memory test utility. -
thanks -
I've had my G2S-A1 for a couple of days now and I love it.
Only problem so far is out of the box, reading burned dual layer data DVDs causes BSOD every time. *update* Since OS reinstall, no longer a problem.
I swapped out the HD for a Hitachi 7K200. So far, i've only installed Vista 32 Ultimate. Installed fine and works nicely after applying the V2 support CD. I have only played WoW with highest settings and it's great.
So i've read all the posts in this thread and I'm now considering Vista 64 Ultimate and am also considering a ram upgrade. Is the 2nd chip under the keyboard? How hard is it to get that off? Is it a matter of unscrewing certain letter screws on the bottom? I didn't see a "K" so any clues? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
As for the memory, I checked Crucial and they seem to indicate that PC2-6400 with max 2gb per slot (or PC2-5300) can be used for this machine. I can't find anything on the Asus website that tells me. Does that mean I can use something like this https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10006104 and end up with some DDR2-800? Here is the Crucial website. http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=D62D8A2BA5CA7304. This site shows all the upgrades and some are in fact DDR2-800. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?mfr=ASUS&model=G2S
So the 2gb chips Crucial are actually selling are PC2-5300 but look at the Manufacturer Specifications box for what i'm asking about. If nobody knows that's ok, maybe I'll be the guinea pig and try it out.
Anyway I have a feeling this isn't my first post here.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
*edit*
Ok Ken Lee has informed me that only DDR2-667 will work in this machine. Ordered one 2g stick. Guess we'll see what happens.
Purchased a 1gb turbo memory module... hope it arrives soon.
So far am sticking with Ultimate 32bit.

Im looking at laptops, and running them past my girlfriend. I brought up this one and told her about the lights, got her on my side. Then i mentioned they only work when you're gaming. Of course she nixed it then.
Is there anyway to configure the lights to come on at different times? And what all can you have the OLED screen display? -
I try do connect my cellphone with me laptop via bluetooth perfect I did it, but I don't now how to pass files from the pc to the phone and back
in my last desktop I had installed bluesoleil 1.6 it allowed me a easy way to pass files
1- can I install that program? it wont affect anything (drivers, other software) right?
2- does g2s come with a program to do that? (if yes, put the name please)
I created a similar theard but I think you guys can help me more -
I already updated in other thread...
-
The OLED display can be set to view the time or a personal text (including personal font, underline, smileys e.t.c.) But it is also displaying if you for example get a new msn message, then it first flash a while, then it shows who wrote the message. -
-
FifthE1ement thanks a lot for your help it was really good, just installed the program and use it very good
thaks again
do you recommend to register the program or not?
tobbis I now that but I wanted something better the way you say is to much work -
Just want to say thanks to you guys. I ordered a G2S-A1 from the Egg due to all the great advice in this forum. Asus needs to give you guys props, you're the best adverts they have.
I overnighted it so I'll post tomorrow when I get it. 8/30/2007. -
Does anyone know where can i find the driver for the DVD. I checked asus cd and those 3 folders under CD ROM are not working for vista 64. For some reason my dvd driver got corrupted. Anyone knows where to download the latest DVD driver for G2S?
-
Checking under the device manager for my dvd drive. The driver seems to be a windows driver so try using the vista cd. Go to device manager find your dvd drive uninstall it, then let refresh the hardware from the button on the device manager. Hopefully vista should set it up for you, you might need the vista cd in the drive.
-
I'd be interested to find out more about configuring the flashing lights on the sides of the display. Right now mine are flashing but I don't know why!!!

I bought a 1gb Intel Turbo Memory card.
When I run the Intel Turbo Memory console program, the information windows indicates that both cache policies are enabled. I see a check next to both ReadyBoost and ReadyDrive. So great. Anything else need to be done? Vista is just using this automatically? -
back to your doubt, when I had the lights on I listen to music and they flash (on WMP) but they didn't follow any melody
to be extra sure ask someone else -
Sup dudes!
I live in Brazil and just got my g2s here (its not released here, so it were imported from some other country).
I got the 1440x900 screen resolution and as far as i've been reading this forum there are some countries or regions that ships with that resolution.
my question is the following: is there a way to know which country my laptop was manufactured? If i have this info I can return the notebook and get the one 1 want (the 1 that was offered to me in the 1st place).
Thank you folks!
Gustavo. -
Hi guys,
I am also gonna join in the club. I ordered from:
http://www.laptops4u.nl/info/g2s-7r024c-1478.html (I live in the Netherlands)
I have opted for processor upgrade: (T7700)
RAM 4096MB
160 7200RPM
Vista Ultimate (64bit)
The only regret that I have is the 1440x900 screen . But I am really happy about the rest
I can't wait to get my hand on it.
Thanks guys for your help. especially raikay -
OK, I need some help.
All of a sudden, I'm having the strangest problem. My mouse cursor is stuck at the bottom left of the screen and I can't move it. However, when I unplug the mouse, I am able to move the cursor with the touchpad. I can't use the touchpad at all (with it enabled) when I have the mouse plugged in.
I tried to do a system restore back to the time when everything was working fine, but it didn't fix the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled Setpoint, but that didn't help either. Does anyone have any ideas?
P.S. I can't believe how many processes are running on this thing. Anyone have any suggestions on what to disable or get rid of? -
Give this a try. Unistall setpoint then uninstall your touchpad drivers (either the synaptics or the alps drivers). Then download and install this http://www.asustreiber.de/request.php?396 restart and then reinstall setpoint.
As for the processes thats one of the reasons why I decided to have mine shipped with no o/s installed hate all the bloatware they include these days.
Basically get rid of the following by uninstalling
Nortons antivirus - resource hog replace with something like avg
asus live update
instafun
nb probe
multiframe
data security manager
splended - up to you ive got it installed
net 4 switch
power4gear - again optional ive got this installed
power 4 phone - if your going to use your laptop to make calls (voip) then leave this installed
ive got 2 gigs ram installed right now and im using roughly 50%. When all of the above was installed I was using 75-80% on idle.
cheers -
I have a biiig problem! Can't write this < and >, with the keybord!
What to do? -
Dont quite understand your post. Do the <> keys on the keyboard type something else instead? If so it might be beacuse you havnt got the right keyboard set up. Did you buy the laptop in another country?
Go to control panel > clock, language, region > region language options > keyboard and languages > change keyboard.
make sure the keyboard installed is of the same country that you bought the laptop from.
Cheers -
Everything seems to be OK!
When I try with shift I get *
When I try with none I get '
When I try with alt gr I get nothing
So something is obviuosly wrong =/ -
I will try this method. Just wondering though. Does it matter that this is Synaptics software instead of Alps. Also it looks like the link you gave me is for 64 bit. I have the 32 bit Vista so do you know if 32 bit drivers are available?
An update on the situation is I was able to borrow another mouse from a friend and that one worked. It was a Kensington and didn't have any special software that needed to be installed a la Setpoint.
In regards to the bloatware, literally the first thing I did when I turned it on was uninstall Norton!!! What is all this stuff that comes installed on here? NBprobe?? Data Security Manager?? -
does the g1 have ddr3 memory??? and does the g2? thnx
-
Yes...yes.
-
ch1525 It doesnt matter that its snyaptics drivers. The driver should support both 64 bit and 32 bit.
For the bloatware lists and what they do look at this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141156&highlight=bloatware+asus+list -
Thanks for the link Dappa. I'll take a look.
In regards to the mouse, I think it is just a problem with the mouse. I came home from my dorm yesterday and tried the mouse on my desktop and it was doing exactly the same thing. Should I contact Logitech or Asus about this? I would think it is under warranty. Thank goodness I didn't do a reinstall of Vista on my laptop!!!!! -

nikola vuk whats the problem? The spec youve listed seems right for the g2s-a1. Youve got the wuxga screen which seems to be harder to find outside the usa and canada.
-
asus live update is telling me that there is a new bios update is the version 209
should I update the bios?
is that a good version (has anyone installed it and use it)? -
Got the new BIOS update to, but when i had installed it i had to reinstall the bluetooth drivers or something like that, and i dont think that it was installed properly.
-
Ill double confirm this too. After installing bios v 2.09, windows asks for bluetooth drivers. Even if you install the bluetooth drivers from the asus driver cd vista doesn't recognize them and cant install bluetooth. Id hold off updating for now.
