Not really, the only things are:
    --the theme is Red and
--there is a different arrangement of ports

No, but if you lookup undervolting, you can extend the battery life that way.

Here is a thread started by a local (NBR) expert on undervolting and overclocking. That is a really good guide.

That is something I'd like to know too. I have tried NHC too, but neither program seems to monitor GPU temps.

Sorry for double posting, but I wanted to ask something. Anyone notice if your keyboard is flat? Cause mine is not flat and some keys are higher then others. Is this normal?

I thought this was wierd, too. You can see that the case is not flat when you look through the hinges when the screen is opened. If you look closely at eye level with the keyboard from the touchpad side, you can see that it arches around the hotkeys.

nVidia's nTune monitors my GPU temps, but it would be a lot more convenient if I could see it in SpeedFan.

I noticed that too. It's probably normal for this laptop chassis tho. I noticed the same flex with the dv9000t keyboard but the thinkpad x60s keyboard is perfect.

It's only noticeable if your eyes are around keyboard level so I don't mind it too much.

I've heard that this laptop can get pretty hot. However when you just use it to do basic stuff like get on the internet, type up stuff on Word, or talk to people on AIM, does it get hot? I want it to be able to be on my lap for basic computing needs, is that possible, or does it get really warm? Also whats the battery life when just using it for basic tasks, as opposed to gaming.

I would say it gets pretty warm during normal usage too. The gpu idles at around 80 degrees celcius though u can't really feel the heat on the palm rests but the bottom of the notebook definitely gets warm. I personally find it uncomfortably warm when keeping it on my lap for extended periods of time.

I'm using Notebook Hardware Control, and it has an option to adjust the percentage the CPU is clocked at: Clock Modulation under the CPU Speed tab. I was wondering if it's safe to adjust these percentages freely. Is it similar to Power 4 Gear Extreme's that was offered in Vista where you can move a tab to adjust the CPU Performance? Because the CPU Performance in Power 4 Gear for XP (current running OS on G1S) isn't working for me, and I would like NHC's clock modulation as the alternative.

Also, is it safe to set different settings in the hard disk tab called Acoustic Management and Advanced Power Management? The default Acoustic Management says 128, and it automatically had it on loud (254); does that mean there is more wear on the hdd if it's on 254 and less wear if it is on 128? What is the default setting for Advanced Power Management if NHC wasn't installed--max performance (254) or w/o spin down (128)?

It is safe to do, so long as you know exactly what you are doing. Otherwise it is wiser to leave it alone.

guys. i have a problem or the g1s bios has the problem. Download and run cpu-z and try to get the cpu till 2.2ghz ON AC. Then do the same only with battery. I used super pi mod 1.5. I found that the cpu does not go till 2.2ghz.

    It's not powergear/windows problem.
    Could you please test ??

    thank you

Heya. I didn't feel like posting a new topic to ask this tiny bit of a question I've been wondering now (I don't own a G1S yet, probably very soon tho).

Should I choose to buy a better HD drive myself (Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160gb in mind), will I be able to install Vista from the "recovery cd" provided with the notebook on it or do I need an alternative media from somewhere? Also, are there different kinds of recovery cds, as most (if not all) European models of G1S seem to be shipped vista Vista Ultimate?

I think you would save money by having it upgraded by the vendor you order from. Then again, you could use the original with a 2.5" enclosure and have your self a nice external hard drive.

Just one little question, does the g1s have a sound card? Cause each time I use wmp and I click on folders to add songs to the playlist, the music lags. I haven't had this issue with my older pc that has a sound card.

If you hear sound, you have a sound chip. That sounds more like a software problem to me, I'm going to guess that it is a combination vista/wmp problem.

    Hey guys!

I need help with my external creative PC speakers. I can't get any volume when I hook them to my G1s. I already have the two speakers and sub hooked to my desktop. When I unplugged the chord from the back of my desktop and plugged it into my G1s....it does not work. I get very low volume through the ex speakers but that is it.

What could I be doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff

Are you using an external sound card? If you are then the volume controls on the external will NOT work, you have to adjust the volume from windows Vista.

I was looking for a docking station as well, but no luck so far :-( It seems only universal docking stations work, which you have to attach using one usb cable. The problem is that even usb 2.0 is fast, gaming on an external screen is probably not possible.

UPDATE: I just found the Asus 90-NAS1P1000. It is nothing for me though, as it does not have HDMI.

The G1s has HDMI built in, no need for a docking station for that. Unless of course you own another type of Asus.

Hey, just received my G1s! So far, its awesome although Vista is kinda annoying. However, I don't really want to reinstall any OS, so what programs are considered bloatware in the G1s factory installed? Also, do we get a copy of office 2007 as well? Or do we have to either pay for it or use our existing 2003 version of it?

I posted this on the forum outside and I thought it would be better to put it here..sorry guys

So...when I'm trying to play some games on G1S..I noticed that when you
hold down the down and right arrow at the same time....certain keys will not respond...

keys like d,z,x,c...and a few more..you can try it for yourself...

is there anyone way to solve this? couple of games I'm playing does not allow me to change keys so I'm really frustrated...

or is this only happening to me?

All OEM versions of Vista have a 60-day free trial of Office on them. If it didn't have it you probably upgraded the software, or they simply did you a favor by not putting it on there.

i wanna double that. The sense of a docking station is that you don't have to replug all the devices you want to use after returning home. So the docking station should have all plugs the G1S has.

Well I got my G1S yesterday... huge props to GenTechPC for helping me out with my requests :)

My only real complaInts are... the screen looks super grainey... and there is alot of bleed from the CCFL. I already uninstalled splendid and did the 0 gamma thing which did help alot with the clarity. :)

When the backlight has an uneven brightness, usually at the bottom of the screen there is a "light path" or somewhere where you can see the CCFL's light more apparant than the rest of the screen (usually only seen when the backlight is on, but the screen is a close to a black color... but it can get bad and you can see it with any semi-dark color)
On my desktop the bleed is about 4mm, but on this G1S is about 2cm... and really isn't as bad as I was making it out to be.. perhaps i was just at a bad viewing angle when I looked at it earlier

Is anyone experiencing weird click noise on the z, x, fn, window start, and left alt key? Mine is having this weird click sound that is different from all the other keys. But when I have a finger on top of(not pressed down) one of the keys listed above, and I pressed one of the other keys, then the weird sound is gone. I suspect this is a flex in the keyboard, so when the key rebounds after being pressed, it causes the other keys in its surrounding to "move". Anyways, does anyone else have this too or is my g1s unique?

My keyboard doesn’t have any of the clicking sounds you mentioned. However, I know that keyboards can vary in quality. The keyboard I have appears to have no flex and a uniform sound. The only problem I’ve noticed happens to be a very mild curve at the top of the keyboard. It’s as though the f5 through f9 keys are slightly arched. It doesn’t affect my typing experience. I also only noticed it a week after receiving my laptop when I was comparing the keyboard to my mom’s t60. I was pleased to find I actually prefer the G1s to the “legendary” ThinkPad keyboards. It seemed as though the ThinkPad was too tightly packed with a small space bar. I do realize keyboard preference is entirely subjective and varies from person to person. In fact quality even varies with in the ThinkPad line with 3 different manufactures used. Some say they prefer the feel of the alps or chicony over the nmb. It’s far too late so please ignore this extended piece.

I just read this and tried it out. But when i move gamma from 50% to Zero, i can hardly see anything any more, its just too dark... I can't image that this is the improvement you are talking about, so ist there anything else i can do?

Thats funny... i just checked it and my f5-f9-keys also formed like a little hill ;-) just not sure wether f6 or f7 is the highest point.

To take advantage of that 4gb you would have to use a 64bit edition of Windows. If you're going to use regular 32bit then go ahead and get only 3gb.

Mine also forms a hill at those keys. There's also a dip in near the middle of the spacebar and 'B' key.
