Monitor\CMO 1523 is what i get when i go where you told me.
Hope this helps.
-
Ah yes, CMO made by Taiwanese manufacturer Chi Mei Optoelectronics. The XPS "sparkly" screens were mostly Samsung.
I was in a Canada Computers store in Toronto this morning and they had a G1S-B2 in stock but the salesman would not boot up the machine to let me see the screen, even though they had one on the shelf on display. His justification was that they wanted to sell that unit as "new" and not as a display model but that explanation raised my suspicions into the red level. I'm glad to hear that your machine does not have that Samsung screen.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Hey everyone. I'm proud to say that I am the owner of a new ASUS G1S, and it's great so far!
My idle temps for the GPU are around 74C, is that normal? I was also curious to whether there was a mod or software to enable more options for the directflash lights on the side, to pulse to music or something or just change the speed.
Thanks for any feedback! -
. Also, there are no DirectFlash options for the lights
-
In AC mode my screen turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity, as I defined. The problem is that when it turns on the brightness is set all the way to the max. What's wrong with this thing?!
-
Which drivers allow overclocks? And when I say allow, I mean those which stick and not reset themselves automatically. So far I've tried 169.04,09 and 32. I can't overclock them with rivatuner.
-
do any of you report the stuttering issue? See I have the G1S but RMAed backto newegg becuase in games like WoW and UT3 it would stutter. Very annoying. Ive seen posts on here that people complain about and others dont. DO you think I could have just gotten a bad card?
-
-
When I am in class...and have my G1s on in battery saving mode, is there anyway to stop the screen from cutting off every minute? It drives me crazy!
Probably stupid question I know.... -
Sure there is a way. Edit your Power4Gear Battery Saving profile, and change the screen timeout.
-
Just wondering about something. Whenever i log on to a forum and try to make the browser save the password forever something pops up and ask for a safety password or something. It has nothing to do with the browser. Anyone know what im talking about and how to get rid of that? Its really annoying.

Hey All,
I have had my G1S-A1 for half a year and have had no real problems. The only complaint I have is CPU speed issue that has been discussed before. I use that fix useing RMClock. Not sure if it’s working for me. The speed fluctuates form 1.10 GHZ to 2.01 GHz, but mostly just stays at 1.10 GHz. Don’t understand why ASUS would put a CPU that should run at 2.20 GHz and cut it down to half that speed.
Anyways beside the CPU issue I really have no complaints, but I’m just wondering if I have my machine working to its fullest capabilities. I am using the original install of Vista and only deleted some of the stock programs as suggested by posters here. But I have never upgraded the BOIS or any drivers. Should I do this? Will this make my a machine run faster? Any other “things” I should do to optimize this great machine. I’m not the most tech savvy person but any suggestion would be welcomed.
Thanks -
How do i disable the "disco" lights on the sides of the screens? Suddenly mine just blinks. Only program running is Utorrent, and the lights have never blinked before when only Utorrent was running.
Help please. -
Eulogy: the program to control the lights is called ASUS Direct Console, I believe.
Joking, it's trying to set a master password to protect your other saved passwords. There should be a way to disable it if you want to.
-
How can i disable it? I dont think it has something to do with Mozilla. Ive never seen it before. I have other computers and i only get that message on my Asus laptop.
-
Maybe Data Security Manager? I don't know details about these new, fresh ASUS cough! bloatware cough! utilities.
Just check your system tray, or the starting programs list. You can disable them one by one and see when the behavior disappears. -
-
It;s the Direct Console I think, like I said earlier.
-
Anyone else think the noise the G1S makes when accessing the Hard Drive is annoyingly loud? I was comparing it to my bro's Thinkpad that just makes a whisper quite hum compared the G1S which is a constant ticking noise.
It's not at all noticable when doing activities such as gaming. But when you're in a quite room trying to get work done, that consant noise gets reaaaaaaaally annoying. -
-
I would just like to start out by saying "Thank You" for all the informative posts and information I found by lurking here. I was reading all the posts and gleamed about as much information as I possibly could before deciding to take the plunge and purchase my Asus G1S. I went ahead and wiped out the computer and re-installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. I would have liked to install XP but from what I've read it's still a little 'flaky'. Hopefully when better drivers and stuff come out, I will "upgrade" to XP.
Anyway, after installing Vista and re-loading all of the device drivers, I have some questions/kinks in the re-install and was hoping some of you could be of assistance.
I've re-installed Asus Direct Console, ATK Generic Function Service, ATK Hotkey, ATK Media, ATKOSD2, JMB36X Raid Config, Power4Gear eXtreme. Do you suggest removing any of those or keeping them?
I can not get the WebCamera to work. In the device Manager it is listed as "USB 2.01.3M UVC WebCam" Any ideas?
When I try to use the Function Key and the Speaker Up/Down keys it displays on the Monitor that the volume is going up and down but the volume actually doesn't go up and down. The LCD Dim/Bright works, however. Any ideas?
When I press the Mail Icon button on the top of the keyboard it opens up Outlook even though I have Windows Live Mail set as the default Email client. How do I configure it to open Live Mail?
What is the secret to how many times you have to press the 'Function + Wireless" keys in order to shut the bluetooth down/turn it on? I press the two keys and sometimes I can turn the bluetooth on and off, other times it just turns the WLAN on and off.
Lastly, a couple of Generic Vista questions;
I went out and popped in 2x2GB Memory Chips in place of the 1x1GB Memory chips. I know the 32Bit version of Vista will only detect/display 3GB Max but I figured what the heck? The memory is a 4 CAS Latency which should have been faster then what was in the laptop to begin with. But, when I re-run the Windows Vista Experience index, it still rates the memory as "4.8". Should it not be "faster" since it is a faster memory modules and more memory?
The "sync" thing in Vista. It's all messed up. I am assuming that I have to use Outlook in order to sync Contacts and Appointments with my Windows Mobile 6 Smart Phone? I can't somehow set up Vista Sync to use Windows Contacts, Windows Calendar to sync Contacts & Appointments from there? It just bothers me to have 'redundant' programs installed... you know?
Thanks all for the help in advance.
If it wasn't for most of you, I doubt I would have taken the plunge on this Laptop. But I am happy I read the comments and decided to take this route.
Looking forward to your replies. -
The only one of your questions I can answer is the one about the ram. The 32bit version of windows can only recognize up to about 3.4gigs of ram. If you put 4+ gigs in, it will show as ~3.4. Using the 64bit version of windows will solve this. This is why there's a lot of computers out now coming loaded with 3gigs instead of 4.
Which G1S did you get? I just got a G1S-B2 from a member here and love it. -
I have the G1S-X2. Picked it up from Best Buy for $800. I practically stole it. -
You might want to have a look at my Vista optimization thread. Lists the common ASUS bloatware that should be removed.

-
How many hours of battery life are you all getting out of your Rig? I get about 1.5 in 'entertainment mode' while playing a game. Is that below average?
-
hey guyus hi to everybody...i have a sad history..i work with suport for pcs, and one motherboard fallen down into g1s[ chassis and did a horrible scratch...at the fiber part and in steel part...how to improve, or even fix it
thx for help
att
Denis -
Well you can't fix it from warranty. Maybe you want to buy the parts off ASUS eStore (if you're in US or Canada), and replace them yourself. Take care about removing heatsinks though, that voids warranty.
Or you can apply some cosmetic fix, I don't know about those.
-
does sp1 improve game compatibility (esp older games)?
what is the best and stable video driver (laptopvideo2go)? -
I still can not get the "webcam" to work correctly. Everything else I figured out or got help on. Any ideas?
Also, where do you all recommend I purchase some other batteries for this laptop? Does it matter if my model is a "X2"? In other words, will any Asus G1 battery I find on the internet sufficient? -
Finally, I get around 2 and a little more battery life out of mine when using Ubuntu... -
I go into the control panel under "scanners&cameras" and the Webcam is not listed. However, I do get audio from the webcamera....odd. -
I don't think there's an audio recording device INTO the camera, there's a microphone right next to it, but it is wired with the MIC input of the Realtek audio card.
How exactly do you test your webcam ? In the previous post you say it's listed in the dev. manager, now you say it's not ? -
I took it out of the device manager when I realized it was not working. I then hit the 'refresh' button and the same drivers loaded back up for the webcam. So, that ruled out a "Bad install" of the drivers...so it could be the wrong drivers for this particular webcam. I know on the Asus site there are two different webcam driver(s). It also tells you how to look at the properties of the webcam in your device manager so you can download the correct drivers. However, the drivers that are loaded on mine are labeled as "Generic".
So, I don't know if the drivers actually "took" or Vista just replaced them with it's own "Generic driver" -
Ok, i have a dumb question, but sadly need help on it..
My sliding key to open the laptop fell out, and i know it didnt break out so i tried to put it back in, but it just falls out (well no ****, due to the fact its suppose to be stuck there)
Anyone know how??
Also i seem to be having some problems with my direct console..
Sometimes when i try shutting down, there seems to be a error due to my direct console.. Next time ill ry to write down what it said, but anyone possibly know? -
Write down the error message and post it here, because I can't fathom a guess at this point.
As far as the slider... can't help you on that one. -
Ok,
When i try to quit the console, it first says access denied and then i press ok, but the console stays on.
I try to quit again and this comes out..
Direct Console:
Access Violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000. -
can anyone help out here please?

Great stuff WEissbr0t. Unfortunately, I don't trust myself that much to take apart the laptop to do what you did. LoL

I know I'm being wicked anal about this, but just wanted to know. In between splash screens, a dimmer black screen is shown on my G1Sn, which enables me to see the minor backlight bleeding on the bottom (expected), but it also has a blotch/3" section in the middle of the screen where it's a little brighter than the rest of the screen, and was wondering if this was normal or warrants a RMA. Is this typical of notebook screens, or does anyone else have this?
Also, (off-topic) I was disappointed in how easily the clearcoat/glossy cover and keyboard border scratches. I've only had mine for a few days and an there are scratches all over the place, probably from rubbing with a paper towel, but even the white protective sleeve in between the keyboard and lcd (shipped with) scatches the glossy finish. These are not deep scratches by any means, and can only be seen in dim lights or at angles, but was a little mad since I paid over two grand for this, and it was all scratched within a day. There should be a warning that says only use microfiber on the clear cover two. Right now I'm purposesly cleaning with the paper towels, hoping that the more scratches there are, the less noticeable they'll all be: Is everyone else using this approach as well? -
About the scratches - I have mine for a month already, I don't have a single scratch anywhere, I clean it with paper towel and the "special" cleaning cloth included in my box.
I got mine with some weird spots on the screen (looked like someone's drools were all over the screen lol), I cleaned it with the cleaning cloth and some hot breath. I also thought it would be easy to scratch it all over, especially the keyboard and around it...it seems it's very solid
-
Maybe it's a problem of perception. Some people look into enough detail to see those scratches and some don't.
About the blotch in the middle of the screen... it's up to you if you want to make an issue out of it... it may be difficult convincing them to replace the LCD for that. Maybe it's a better idea to let it go if it doesn't affect you in normal usage.
Also, maybe it's something temporary. Was the laptop sitting near something that emits an electromagnetic field? Like the magnetic seal of a sleeve, for instance, I know someone mentioned their notebook gave weird colors in an area of the screen due to that. -
I fixed the blotchy/lighter area of the screen, and now I'm psyched! For anyone who notices the same on their's: Just use the microfiber cloth and apply a tiny-bit of pressure on the bottom of the screen, or wherever necessary. I did this by having a blank console and worked out the bright areas by gently rubbing the bottom of the lcd and around. I'm assuming it has something to do with the position of the screen material, and since I pushed-in one section gently, it made the middle come forward and out of the backlight's range or something.
Yeah, I think you're right about the scratches E.B.E. I'f I look at my notebook under normal lighting conditions, there's not a sigle scratch. But if I look at it under dimmed lights, or low sunlight, I can see scratches all over that look like little spider webs. Not a big deal, but it aggravates me - Maybe I need help -
I'm kiddin...but I also am psycho like you when it comes to scratches, I watched it under UV too, there's no single scratch anywhere (which is something rare to me) and it's been over a month. The only thing that's not the same as it arrived in the bag is the mouse...it's surface is bleaching like skin....like there's a nylon cover on it, but it's not removing with brute force...but this mouse is a monster, so I guess it's just changing its skin -
Can anyone recommend a sleeve for the G1S? I was looking at the Zeroshock III but I'm not sure if it would fit. One of the sides of the notebook is 11.2' versus the interior dimension of the case at 10.8'.
-
I purchased the very same sleeve for my Asus G1S-A1 15.4" baby. Audrey, a member of the Shinza staff, suggested that because of the large black panels above and below the screen the width of the laptop was too large for the 15-inch widescreen laptop case. I upgraded to the 17" and it's perfect.
At first, I was hesitant, because I felt that I'd be carrying a monster around and it wouldn't fit in my backpack, etc. I also didn't know about the interior design of the ZeroShock III case, which has many pyramidal bumps that each can compress (those are the "high-resistance polyurethane" that they advertise). The bumps are fabric-coated and completely prevent slipping, so the extra space is not an issue. On the contrary, I purchased myself a Razer Pro|Click Mobile Bluetooth mouse in Naughty Black and it actually fits in the case alongside the laptop! (Not only by size, but also by color scheme - the entire setup is quite sexy to whip out)
I can now unzip my laptop and immediately start using it, mouse and all. It's quite the idea setup, and plus, the style and quality of the Zeroshock III case turn heads wherever I open up my laptop.
Another important benefit that I didn't immediately realize is the usefulness of just having "empty" space in the sleeve. When I reach in my backpack to grab the laptop, if it's placed between books, I can simply pinch the top of the sleeve and it will depress into the conveniently-located patch of air inside the case, since I place my laptop more towards the side of the case resting on the bottom of the backpack, and pull it out with MUCH less hassle than a completely snug sleeve with no handle. Imagine this setup inside an open case:
1-Laptop situated towards the left
2-Mouse directly next to it in the top-right
3-Open air in the bottom right, below the mouse and next to the laptop
The case is of such high quality that you can simply grab the "open air" section and use it as a handle. I often walk around carrying my laptop in this fashion, because it feels so secure (and looks SO dorky), and I can tell that there's no risk of damaging the high-resistance polyurethane which I am grabbing.
Note, though, that this puppy isn't much of a sleeve a la neoprene - it's mostly rigid, so I call it a case. Actually, I compare its flexibility to when you try to bend "pool noodles" with your hands only a few inches apart from each other. With a little bit of force, the case only bends a smidgen, but with more force added, the flaps of the case can actually bend back on themselves.
You'll like the 17-inch Zeroshock III, trust me. It fits the laptop 100% in width and height, and provides valuable extra space in the length dimension.
With that recommendation aside, I wanted to ask:
Has anyone figured out a way to re-program the Windows Media Player hotkeys on the front of the laptop so that they are iTunes-compatible?
Thanks very much,
Batman
On a completely separate note, I wanted to warn you guys that if you have printer or binder paper resting on top of your laptop and you rub it around on the surface, it WILL cause scratches. I was working on top of my laptop and didn't know this, so I ended up with some weird scratch patterns from the paper surface. I actually scratched a lattice pattern into my surface to make it more of an "intentional style statement", and it still looks nice. The aforementioned "bumps" of polyurethane in the Zeroshock III case have polished my surface in the spots where they come into contact with the surface, however.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015
