Hey thanks for the inputs, it's running the game better now with the driver from the site above eventhough slight stuttering still remains . Anyway, Is that the official driver from Nvidia?

One of the bottons on the top right of the laptop will turn off the touchpad (it makes the light on the eye go out). I think it's the button just left of Power. I've never even tried to use FN+F9.

I went back and messed with the settings last night. Lowering shadow detail and sources makes a huge difference in performance.

hey guys, tired of waiting for the V1S or the V2S. Gonna get myself a G1S tonight. YEAH!!So excited guys. What should be the first thing I should do. Remove bloatware right? and then charge the battery to full (can I use the computer while the batt is charging for the first time)?

yeh you can use it when its charging for the first time, but if you want it may be slightly beter to leave it, they come with a pre shipping charge anyway and 2bh i never realy notice the difference between one thats been charged and one thats been played with, and most likely you will be on mains alot of the time so it dont matter 2 much, you could always remove the batery and play with the laptop with the power adapter on?

got the G1S finally. removed bloatware. So happy I got it, it looks sick. One problem, wireless internet. I have a wireless router and its on WEP key 2 not key 1. The channel is also different. How do I change or access that on Vista? Its bugging me right now as I have no internet

As of right now G1S does not support Vista 64 (no drivers validated by Asus for G1s). You can experiment with manufacturer driver. You should try to find chipset, NIC drivers from their respective manufacturers in 64 bit version. For the video driver in 64 bit some have tried a website called laptop video 2 go.

I am trying to figure out if I should spend the extra money at BTOtech.com. Is a 7200 rpm drive necessary or will the stock 5400rpm drive suffice. If so the I'll just buy from New Egg and upgrade my RAM to 3 gigs a little later. Please advise.

Turbo memory can't be upgraded and is a utility that speeds up your programs' load time and your systems boot up time.

thanks milestone, but it still doesn't connect. I changed it to key 2 and it still doesn't work. My router has different channel settings, coudl that be the problem? Or coudl it be that the card is set to wireless N when I have a G network? It connects right now but says it has limited access, ie. no internet.

My g1s has 3Gb RAM but the rest is standard, and i'm wondering why those scores are so low...I did clean instal of Vista Home premium 32 bit and instaled only that stuff from asus witch necesary...Can you help me with that problem?

3600 is already a good score.

you should try closing applications like Norton, etc

did you change the 3dmarks settings?

Hi, Even been here almost everyday checking for news and so far this place has been awesome. But finally I had to post something... My G1s has a DVDRAM GSA-T20L that i`ve searched everywhere and it`s listed as a lightscribe supported hardware... BUT as I installed the LSS (LightScribe System Software).... It said the drive is not lightscribe capable!!!
So anyyone has the same drive? Is it a Hardware or Software issue ? BTW: I`m using Vista Business with all lastest drivers from ASUS, except for the dislay adapter driver which is the laptopvideo2go one.
    Regards.

    Hi

I just bought an Asus G1s which has a serious problem:
some combinations of keys are not detected.
    For example if I press
the "left arrow" and the "down arrow"
    at the same time
then CTRL or SPACE is not detected.

This is the case on all programs/games (at least under Windows Vista).

Could someone tell what sort of problem is causing this?
The computer is virus and spyware free.

Well, I already figured out that the gsa-t20l driver is lightscribe enabled, for it has the lightscribe sensor. So it must have something to do with Vista... Any ideas?

Could someone tell me whether (s)he is having the same problem?

If I press more than 2 keys at the same time, they are not detected in some (not uncommon) combinations.
    For example:
Left arrow + down arrow + CTRL
Left arrow + down arrow + SPACE

This happens in game where you move diagonaly (backwards
and to the left) and you try to shoot or jump with CTRL or SPACE.

This problem happens with all games and even under Unix.

Does any of you know of a solution?

why isn't my miniSD card, which is absolutely without problems working on my friends HP not working on my new asus g1s ??? it writes this, in the devices manager : This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

What audio connections does the G1S have? I have a Logitech Z-5300 system that doesn't have an S/PDIF (Optical) input. Does that mean I have to get my laptop a sound card? Are there any other connections that I can use other than Optical to get good 5.1 surround?
    Thanks

You have to buy a sound card and an adaptor for RCA connectors ( like for X-FI notebook) , you are right.

    Hey Guys,

This is my first post but I've been following these forums for ages and they have really helped me to reach a decision to get the G1S, thanks for all the advice :) .

Now my Problem : I'm an english speaker studying in France where they only sell the G1S AZERTY   . I've done a bit of research when it comes to changing keyboards and can type well enough that I can manage to survive on a AZERTY looking keyboard while I tell Vista that it's a normal QWERTY keyboard, altough symbols will be a problem (it's also going to be annoying having to swap the W and A key over as for AZERTY the Q and Z key are the special green keys). My only concern is that I will lose functionality inside games. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I could be, but changing the keyboard language inside Vista may not affect how some programs register keystrokes, say while running DX10 (hey you didn't think I was getting the G1S for anythig other than gaming did you :p ). The only post I could find about this said that whilst runnig games with DX10 (or any other DX, i.e. outside the normal Vista environment, similar to running MSDOS in Windows I assume ?) the keyboard will register keystrokes as per what the keybaord is, i.e. AZERTY. Is this true ?

Pre-empting the most obvious response : I can't really use a USB keyboard as I'm travelling. I really don't want to lose shortcut/hotkey functionality and am aware that some users have problems with certain 3-key combinations registering properly (which is a real concern for me as you need to press shift to access all number keys on AZERTY). Has anybody else managed to change keyboards on a G1S ?

Additionally I seem to have come across a new variant of the G1S which is only available in Switzerland (the Swiss keyboard is a lot less painful than AZERTY), but which hasn't started shiping yet. It's product number is G1S-AK074C as opposed to the G1S-AK005C, which you are all fortunate enough to own :) .

The Specs are the same for everything except the following, they use a T7700 (2.4G), Turbo (Robson) Memory comes standard and they use a larger HDD (some stores given different sizes). I don't want to start another discussion as per the benefits of Robson but suffice to say the T7700 is a nice surprise, seeing as you can't upgrade the CPU without voiding Asus Warranty. Also anticipating the most asked question : the graphics card will be EXACTLY the same (Yes that means 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3). This is not an update of the G1S (for example G1 to G1S) but just a different variant of the G1S. It also apperas that the G2S will benefit from exactly the same "upgrades" (note that I used "quotation marks" for all those Robson sceptics :p ).

Here are some links to stores which sell this model (german/french/english) :

    http://www.architronic.ch/?id=000939383
    http://www.ohc24.ch/154tft-wsxga-t7...ightscribe-builtin-vista-premiu-p-426969.html

    http://eshop.techdata.ch/eshop/desi...DTCX6dylJbnHygTFvSm?ProdNr=1431297&ShopID=129

Note : Most of these site are selling the new G1S for almost the same Swiss price as the old G1S (which is not really old at all :) ). None of the sites carry detailed descriptions or even pictures but seeing as it hasn't been released yet that's not a huge concern.

Here is a link to a price comparison of the G2S :

    http://fr.toppreise.ch/index.php?search=g2s+T7700&manu=0&cat=0

Additionally in a French forum I found this :

    http://www.laptopspirit.fr/forum/index.php?showtopic=1334&pid=21765&st=0&#entry21765

For those who can't speak French some guy managed to recieve an email confirmation, from ASUS Swiss, of the specifications for the new G1S, which you can read in English about 2/3 down the page. Noticably Asus gice the HDD as 200GB 7200rpm SATA (assuming Asus stick with Hitachi this means 16MB cache too and claimed 10ms seek :) ). Additionally another guy gives an unsorced shipping date as "early october" and another guy posted but then removed (I've been watching this forum for a few days now) a realease date as 2nd october.

I'm also assuming that as the new G1S is shipped with Robson they may have solved some compatibility problems and a new BIOS update could very well be here soon :) , but for all those people still battling their batteries that's not a promise :( .

I'm also assuming that as Switzerland is such a small country (7.5 million) that Asus won't be producing the new variant sepcifically for them, and we might expect a Europe-wide if not Global rollout.

All my queries to the stores about G1S specs have been diverted to Asus. I've tried unsuccesfully to get confirmation from Asus Swiss but assume they only speak German and not French or English. Also, in part due to my terrible French, Asus France has not returned my emails. My local French Asus Dealer knows nothing of this either. I therefore invite everyone to harass their local Asus Dealers until we can get an answer :) .

Anyway I can barely wait to get a G1S no matter what CPU or keyboard. So hopefully I can hold out long enough that your replies won't be in vain.

P.S. I am aware that this is perhaps not the correct thread to post this but a) I need keyboard advice from G1S owners, b) I have absolutely no idea how to or even if I can start a new thread and c) from a reference of mine you can see that my computer knowledge ended in the day of DOS, and I need all the help I can get.

    Thanks for your understanding :)

When I bought an HP printer a few months ago, the disk that came with it did NOT have the Vista driver on it (only Mac and Xp/98). I had to go to HP.com and download the Vista driver. Have you done that and it still doesn't work?
If not, go to the HP.com website and download the 5440 Vista driver.
