just changed my sig but it hasent come up yet  anyways it says this G1S-A1 | C2D T7500 | 160GB Momentus | 2GB Corsair VS & 1GB Nanya. It could be because of hardware.

Emppapy, I think your problem might be resolved by using your recovery dvd., or else something must be slightly off with your hardware. I would recommend calling your retailer and address this issue.

And I might have a slightly higher score because I have a 7200 RPM harddrive.

BTW, I have tested the ''BioShock'' driver (163.44) and its the fastest and most stable driver I've used for the G1S. There is a noticable performance boost in BioShock (demo) and different other games too.

Ok thanks a lot -TTT-. When I have time I'll try to make a clean install of Vista.

EDIT : I removed 163.16 and installed 163.44 drivers. Result : 3325 points, no improvement.

By the way I thought of overclocking, but I monitored temps with Ntune during 3dMark06 test and they already are extremely high.
My room is 22° celcius, ilde gpu with stock frequencies (475-700) is 83° celcius but it reached 101° celcius !

Thus overclocking seems impossible (maybe with an external cooler?).

I think there is definitely something not ok with the laptop. 83 on idle is very high ( I was worried myself having 70 on idle ) You should get higher scores and less heat. I think something is wrong with how your drivers/hardware communicate with eachother. If the Vista reinstall doesnt work, definitely call your retailer.

As for overclocking, I think the cons overweigh the pros. Less lifetime for the hardware and with those temeratures its not recommendable. Besides, if your G1S is working correctly there is enough 'gaming juice' to play current games on medium/high.

So you really need to cure the 'disease' instead of fighting the symptoms :)

So 83 is high even on high performance mode ?
I'll properly log temps with Ntune while playing and then I'll go and use the recovery disk.
I keep you posted and again thank you for your help.

Just got my G1S-A1, I'm, from Ireland and ordered it through laptopsdirect.co.uk. I got S.T.A.L.K.E.R. free in the box with it. It's a good game but it runs pretty badly on resolutions past 1024 x 768. I don't mind running it on that but I was wondering if anyone has gotten good results on higher resolutions with better drivers?

Also has anyone installed any linux distro on their G1s-A1?

Just got my G1S yesterday, after expending all night taking out all the bloatware.
I get 4.7 windows vista performance (out of package just 4.1)
    I'm concern because I got 3 gigs, I know other people got 4.8 w/2gigs.

    Any recomendation?

Go to laptopvideo2go.com, then download any driver you like for Vista 32bits with the modded inf file. You'll replace the original inf file with this one and the setup should work.

EDIT : -TTT-, I successfully went through the recovery but unfortunately it seems that nothing has changed.
I kept stock drivers, installed 3dmark06, ran it and I got 3252 points.

By the way, it is written : "The ORB database contains only 1 similar system configuration(s), which is an insufficient amount of produce a comparison graph."
Is it normal ? Could 3dmark be faulty ?

Emppapy, thats indeed high for just normal gaming. But the thing is, these GPU's are designed to handle high temperatures. I have a friend whose laptop ran 110 stressed and for 3 years straight, no problems (except for his blistered fingertips).

But the problem is the fact that these temps are far above average, so there must be something wrong. It might be poorly implemented cooling paste or something is wrong with the fan, I don't know.

So that leaves you the choice to consider a laptopcooler or calling your retailer. I suggest the latter.

I sent Asus an email explaining my concern and they replied just giving instructions to send it back to them. I guess I´ll have to do that. I wouldnt do it if I had no performance issue but this is bothering me even though I dont really feel like doing it because I need the laptop for college.

Ill give it a try, it might be quick...

I FINALLY GOT G1s!!! paid a little extra and got a screen protector.
spent the whole night doing a fresh install, love this machine.
however, i did find a little flaw on my notebook: the up arrow button is too sensitive, it recognize a "up" by just resting my finger on the key without actually pushing the button down... :S kinda annoying when flying in bf2.... but i guess it can be fixed easily so im going to the ASUS repairing place tomorrow and get it fixed.

still, im glad that i bought it. haha

hmmm, not sure, some Japanese brand. it was 250 HKD so about $30 USD.
good thing is that it doesnt make the screen dimmer. just a thin layer of plastic.

I see many of you have installed the 1GB of Intel Turbo Memory into your Asus GS1. Where did you add it and how much did it cost? How easy was it to install? If you have 2GB of RAM does adding the 1GB of Intel Memory give you 3GB? Have you seen any improvements? I have heard of some users just adding a 1GB SD card as the Turbo Memory is this true?

Thanks for any help as I am getting the GS1 next week and I think you can but the turbo memory for like 30 bucks, which I am waiting on you to know if it is worth it.

Also with a clean format of Vista is it better to use the 64bit or 32bit? Which will garner better performance. I use mainly FTP software, Photoshop, IE7, and some DVD apps. Most of my software is for website administration. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and do you have to have an Asus disk or can you use and existing Windows Vista DVD?

    Thanks,

From what I've read on different threads regarding this, turbo memory seems to slow down the processes rather then speed them up.
If you have 2gigs of Ram turbo memory is not needed, and it is definitely not like having 3 gigs of Ram.
I wouldn't spend the money on it personally.
I believe that when I get my V1S i'm going to disable it. I believe it was in the V1S benchmark thread toward the end there is some bencharks with it on and off and when it was on it was not good.
The conculsion was more of it's probaby good for people with low ram, 512, 1gig, but if you have 2 gigs it's not worth it.

As for the rest, others would prob be better answering those questions.

Do you know where that bench thread is?

And what makes the GS1 better than the VS1? Is the GDDR3 that much better than the 512 DDR2? Which will give better performance?

    Thanks again,

Here's the thread, it starts talking about the turbo memory around page 4 or 5.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=156705

And to answer your other question, yes GDDR3 in the G1S is that much better than the DDR2 in the V1S and most other laptops. Gives about 8-900 more points on 3DMark06.

For gaming performance it is better to use the 32bit version of Vista. Most games are still written for a 32bit environment. With 64bit you will probably have the problem that some games won´t install at all even if you use the compatibility mode. Tests say that the 32bit vista is roughly 5-10% slower than XP. 64bit is even slower (meaning fps).

For a clean format you can use any Vista Ultimate installation DVD. Just use your key on the bottom of your NB.

As for the Windows Ultimate key... I have a new one, why would I have to use the one on the bottom of my nb? My GS1 only comes with Home Pre?

    DVI = compressed digital video
HDMI = uncompressed digital video (like HD-movies) + sound

I talked to a guy from ASUS who told me that the Nvidia chip that was used in the G1s would only support video. Then I talked to someone from Toshiba who said that their HDMI port with the Nvidia 8600gt also supported sound!
    Who's got it right?

kkk...i had bought a g1s what amazing notebook uh? put i have a doubt..that i think that isnt necessary to create a topic... i supose :)

Well.. the problem is : The wi fi network adapter , Asus says, is a 802.11n compliant...but i already tested with a router and even with a id recognizer from intel...and my card is a 3945 a/b/g card...and not a 4945 n card...
what happened? where is my n card adapter?

Where did you buy it from? What is the model? There are different versions of the G1S which are different and include different specs such as processor speed, gfx card, memory, OS, Wifi card, etc...

Another idea is perhaps you need to install the drivers?

You should have bought the G1S-A1 online as it has a better processor and/or gfx card. Not to mention you would have saved some money.

Anyway it is very simple to install RAM. Use your owners manual to view where the slots are on the bottom and unscrew. Pop out old memory and pop in new. You'll want the fastest and best DDRII you can buy. Right now you can only find 667 but 800 will be available soon. You'll also want memory with low cas latency, which should be 4 or 5.

So you are looking for 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM 667 (PC2 5300) CL4 for maximum performance. Any combination up to 4GB will work.

RAM doesn't require any drivers. You simply put it in and you're good to go.
