well, it's quie an interestin notebook, which I think I'll buy in September in Los Angeles...do you think, the prices will drop a little bit ???
what's the best web, to buy it ? newegg has a price for 1898 USD with free shipping and for example excaliberpcs have it for 1899 USD and I think both this webs have the same configrutaion of the laptop.
Will I get the mouse and backpack at every retailer ?
Can I found a better price somewhere ?
Are there some retailers I should avoid ?
Wouldn't it be better to choose the Inspiron 1520 ? (I think it definetly won't)
Does it have sense to buy additional RAM ? (I think it hasn't)
Is there in los angeles some retailer, where I can buy it personally, but where he has it on the net ? (Where ?)
I would appreciate a 200gb disk and an additional battery ( I wan't to use it in class).
Thanks for your thoughts!

Bah, what does everyone clean there screens with? The cloth that came with it is only doing more harm than good now....
-
The mouse and backpack are included in the box it seems (I ordered from NCIX and I highly recommend it, my total with shipping was 2203 CDN, I pricematched from lucomputers.com)
The problem with NCIX is that you cannot customize the parts like you could at one of the specialized notebook sites that are floating around on the forum (gentechpc, geared2play, etc)
Edit; I just got mine today, this is my first laptop, and my god I can't believe how quiet it is compared to my regular rig. -
I'm not sure if you will get a bag and mouse from online retailers like newegg. I know you dont get a bag and a mouse through Bestbuy. You might want to call them and ask. Also, keep in mind other resellers like Gentech, XoticPC, Milestone PC and Btotech.
Inspiron 1520 is a decent notebook, but it will no way near match G1s performance. Extra RAM is always good. If you will be gaming using today's games, I recommend 3Gigs at least....else, stay with stock 2Gigs. -
Um... What the hell...
The backlight on my screen just kind of...shut off, it came on again for a split second, but then it was gone again.. Christ I've only had it out of the box for 4 hours..
I have a feeling I'm going to need to RMA this now, wonderful. -
lol...I know what u mean! The problem is that glossy finish. Your oily finger prints get all over the outside of the laptop. You wipe it down with the rag....that oil gets all over the rag. Then you wipe your shiny LCD screen down with it.....bam! The oil gets all over your screen from the rag.
My screen looks just like yours right now. Don't use the rag on the screen any more. Get a seperate rag for that from Best Buy or something.
But don't worry. Your screen is not scratched or anything. -
P.S.
And i am not batman! -
Bah, but now I have to deal with this stuck pixel...
-
Men, i have read the news that asus will sell same models with the TurboMemory module (Robson), and one of this model is the G1s-A2 (only in USA). Now I ask you if there is the possibility to buy one of this module and mount it in the ather versions of g1s, if the current g1s is pre-disposed to support it, if there is the socket to install it.
Tnx -
so im a day or so away from gettin my G1s from some laptop store. since the possibilities of having defects in the laptop arent always that incredibly low...i was just wonderin what tests/inspections i shud do to ensure that everything's working properly (eg. CPU (super pi), GPU, RAM (memtest) tests ect). cheers
P.S. whats the best way to get all the stuff from my old W3 (XP) to my new G1s. how do i deal with all my itunes music??? i think they may have diff. folders which they use.... -
Check the screen (use a black screen or a white one) to check for dead or stuck pixels... Then, delete some bloatware, run some stress tests.... Using 3DMark06... Not much else to do then. Just game on it lol to make sure it all works out
-
Use Dead Pixel Buddy to check for dead/stuck pixels.

Nobody answer me?

I got my G1S today. My screen is grainy and it is very visible. If I game or watch a movie I do not notice it, but if I look at a white website it is quite noticable and irritating.
Is it possible to fix this problem in any way?
Is it possible to change the display - either by getting a good display for free from asus, or by buying a new screen that works?
I am suprised it is not more anger and irritation among those on this form on this issue. It is quite serious that a laptop from 2007 can't have a working screen while a laptop from 1998 could have a great screen without any grainyness. -
1GB Intel Turbo Memory Card: $39
does this card have sense in this laptop ? -
Someone want to do me a huge favor and find me a 2 gig stick of ram from www.ncix.com that will function in my g1s to its full ability?

look what laptop could me from HP with a lower price and with a HD DVD ROM, which is worth something about 400 USD !!! It has just the core2duo T7300 and not the T7500 and a little bit worse GPU... what do you think ? -
I'd be questionable about the GPU, ask around.

As for the graphics, the 8600GT is basicaly 2-3 times faster than the 8400GS. So the next thing to consider what you will using this notebook for? The HP is a good notebook, if you look at the top left, it is among the most popular, but the G1S is a true gaming notebook if that is what you are into.
Also if you think a 8400GS would be enough for your gaming that's fine too, its all up to you. So if you need the best gaming performance G1S, hands down compared to basicaly any other competitor, but if you are looking for something mid range in gaming performance you have a lot of choices, but surely HP is quite nice. -

I just ordered the Patriot 1x2GB for my G1s from Newegg. Haven't installed it yet, but I'm sure it will work perfectly.
The memory just needs is to be PC5300 or 5400, and 667MHz. -
Alright, but what about latency, is 5300 slower then 5400?

next to the heat vent on the back left side. It has a little K mark, and is smaller than the rest of the holes. My lock is kinda loose (it wobbles quite a bit), but it should serve its purpose.

When the G1S boots up at the very beginning there is a bass sound and a fire icon appears with the words "Asus Gaming Series". How do I turn this sound off? I have muted the sound and restarted the computer but I still hear it.

I am wondering what the average temps are for the G1S. My GPU is running 70'C on idle and the CPU is around 57-62. Is this normal or do I have to worry about this issue? I am measuring the temps with Everest.
Could anyone be so kind to post their own temperatures? -
Hi guys,
just wondering, what is the newest (the best) drivers for this 8600 GT right now ?
I reckon somebody say 162.18 and/or 162.15 ? Does you guys have experience with either one of these?
Thx -
Well i'm using 163.15 right now. It runs very stable and there is a noticable performance difference comparing to the stock drivers. It also fixed my hibernation's '' I like to stay black '' problem.

I did and I get 3410 points at 1280x1024 : I am a little disapointed.. -
Well I haven't tried with the new drivers, I did with my stock drivers and I got almost 3800 points. After the new drivers I could play games like Overlord and C&C3 more smoothly, so whatever the benchmark will say its all about reallife performance right? I know there must be better drivers around, but i don't feel like testing them all

Should I use the 3 months free of norton that asus provides?

p.s.: jebus i wouldn't recommend norton to any one its ecent getting the virus but it consumes to much computer theres lots of better anti-virus in the market that do the same and take up half the resources (myself i use Kaspersky but that personal choice) -
random question, for gaming, what kind of resolutions for FPS's like fear should I be playing on? Im right now using all near HIGH on 1024*768
-
I try to stick with widescreen resolution; either 1280x800, 1440x900, or 1680x1050 depending on how graphic card intensive the game is.
If native widescreen resolutions aren't supported on the game you want to play, check out www.widescreengamingfroum.com they have a bunch of methods to get them. -
Well, I have the screen brightness at 7% at battery saving mode. Battery life is still at 2 hours max.

You had 3800 points with stock drivers which I didn't even get with improved drivers. That is why I'm trying to figure out what is the problem. -
Hi all, I thought I'd put up my 3dmark06 scores up here using different drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com. Theres some issues with some of these drivers like no powerizer option, frequency being detected incorrectly and some other things as they use a modded inf. The ones I use now are forceware 101.28 for XP32, 165.01 Vista32 and 106.19 Vista64. When doing these I usually turn a lot of things off so there might be a slight increase with these scores compared to other people on this site. I also made some vids of some games on G1S if anyones interested http://stage6.divx.com/user/linkglar

Thanks linkglar, it would seem that the second thing I do after I get my Asus G1 from Xoticpc (the first is removing needless bloatware) is upgrading the graphics driver
-
Cheers linkglar !
I ran another test after booting and I closed Nod32 antivirus and I got a worst result even though I changed drivers (163.16 now) : 3340 1280x1024.
What is wrong ?
