I have a long list of games hehe. and i can test them all out and take some pics since thats the vibe im getting from people. i thought there would already be threads covering this thats why i didn't bother. I havnt had any major issues yet... lol. The only thing that i have had that bugged me a bit was some odd hick ups when playing BF2 on High settings at 1280-1024 no AA.
Also i have not tried any games unplugged yet but i would think it would be the same with settings on high performance but would kill battery life to about an hour.

Hey I have a question, what's the weight like on this laptop? I'm very interested in buying one but I need to be able to carry it around with me quite frequently (on bus journeys, once or twice a week). Otherwise I think this laptop is great for me, from all of the reviews here it seems like quite the computer.

Has anyone had any dead pixels? I am customizing ram and HD so according to BTO site my warranty is void... Figuring out what I need warranty wise.

I ask a couple people I know with an asus laptop and they said they have not experiance any dead pixel, Asus is the number one without dead/stuck pixel(That why they like the only one, who has a 30 day no dead/stuck pixel guaranteed even if it a tiny one).

    and

The weight is around 6-7 pounds, if you go to Best Buy they have one on Display(I would not buy it from there, it cost more, has a slower processor, does not come with free mouse/bag, but it the exact same laptop).

Try the store locator at best buy website or call the store to make sure u don't go there for nothing.

Last questions, Is there a company I can customize a 512mb version of the 8600gt or are they all 256mb? And does anyone know for a fact that the warranty from Asus is still good if I only customize the hard drive and ram. Reason why I ask is I get conflicting answers from different companies, such as BTOtech and GenTech...

    Thanks for your help.

EDIT: Nevermind, went ahead and ordered from BTO :).

Thanks for answering ! So you just moved to 163 and the problem disappeared ?

And by the way, I know what you are talking about regarding BF2 ! It feels like stuttering sometimes, doesn't it ?
It is an annoying issue because the frame rate is high but there is no "steady pace" and thus the game is difficult to play.

also does anyone have any comments regarding G1S' screen?
i've heard some really good and some really bad things abt it ...
and also is it true that there''s flex problems on the left hand side of the keyboard?

I don't notice any suck flex problem. The screen is very good. There are things I don't like, such as being glossy and viewing from angles not the best, but after using for a long time glare is not a problem where I am and viewing from side is good enough for me as well. Other than that the color quality and brightness are very good. 0 dead pixels.

Nothing really just some new graphics drivers would be good. Bios isnt a need update. There are new realtek HD audio drivers you can get. Other than those thats it.

In general you should only update your BIOS to fix a problem(s) you know you are having. Otherwise it's best to stick with what you have.

This laptop plays BF2 fine on high settings at 1280-1024 for me. I posted earlier that the only thing that was bothering me was some hick-ups BF2 was having on random occations. Hopefully there is a fix or a solution for this. I wouldnt let a small thing like that change your mind on getting a G1S you will be more than pleased with the overall performance :D.

Right now there is no real reason to update the BIOS. However, in the future when they release one that fixes the big "Over 90% AC Charge CPU" problem, then it will be worth it.

Is there anyone here who bought their Asus G1S from xoticpc? How long did the shipping take. I ordered on July 25(last week's Wednsday) and then look at my order later and find that it is in "Phase 3: Sent to Production". Phase 3 started on July 28(a Saturday). It is now August 4. Does anyone know how xoticpc works with the shipping method? Will I recieve it on the following Monday? Or is there another phase the order goes through? Thx

Just to let you know UPS says it will take 3-6 days to ship over.

You're right, but as far as I'm concerned I experience very bad stutters when I play online (yet good ping and connection) ... On the other hand, it is playable if I create a server and play alone.

    Strange...

EDIT : Actually it may be a HDD related issue. I noticed that the hdd led is nearly always blinking when I play the game.
But question is : is there anybody who can run this game properly with the G1S ?

Well the thing is that framerate is high (about 60 fps), but not steady. A lower resolution than 1280x1024 doesn't change a thing.
    However, I'll try these drivers...

    Hi all..

I just get my asus g1s a couple days ago..Yet, i alreday get some questions :

    1. when I try to play rise of nations. Rise of legends. Yet sometimes the game movement is not that smooth. Do you guys know how could it happens?

    2. I try to benchmark this computer using SiSofware sandra. I get a quite low results on processor arithmatic benchamark. The results show my laptop get dhrystone ALU 7226 MIPS. While that, the lower processor, such as intel core 2 duo 7200 2Ghz, get the dhrystone ALU 15770 MIPS. (which is higher). Is it normal?

Can I anyone here help me to handle this issue?

Ps : I didn't do any oc or uc whatsoever yet.

    Thx

I was playing BF2 at 1400X1050 with high settings and 2XAA, and it was good framerates w/o any hiccups. Wish the game supported 1680X1050, oh well.

Returning and getting fixed are two different things. Returning would require you go through the retailer. But for getting it fixed, you should be fine anywhere you are.

Thanks, yeah that's what I thought, I could always just ship it back anyway to return it. Cheers.

So do you guys think the problem with the games is due to the drivers or is the graphics card just not up for the newer titles?

I think it's good to make sure drivers are up to date, games are patched to latest version, and make sure "choppiness" is not due to network latency by playing single player mode first. But you probably already tried all that. Also make sure your battery is set to high power, not power save. power save slows the whole system down a lot for gaming.

I'm sure these questions have been asked before....but it would take to long to look for them.

    1. When I play DVD'S, it plays perfectly until it changes chapters...then play gets choppy for a few seconds.

    2. While playing around with the laptop.....no internet...etc...it seems very slow. It takes the control panel forever to open. (3-5 seconds)

    3. I get 2 hours max of battery life in battery saving mode. Can anything be done? Where can I buy a spare?

    4. Stuff I have downloaded over the internet (video's for example) play in fullscreen mode...(sides are cut off). But on my desktop, widescreen tv....these same video's feel the entire screen with nothing cut off....or some cut the top and bottom off. I Like the widescreen mode or the entire screen being filled.

    5. Can you give me a link for the system rating fix.....mine still says 4.5

Please help me fix some of these problems if possible.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Control panel took several seconds to open for me as well until I popped in a 4GB memory stick and used readyboost.

I never did a clean install but I did uninstall a lot of the Asus utilities and streamlined my startup programs and services. Performance further improved but then I ran TuneUp Utilities and now my G1S is really humming along! I guess a clean install is the best way to go as TuneUp utilities was able to delete a lot of crap from my registry and speed up my system.

BIOS stands for basic input/output system. It's the firmware on your motherboard that interacts with the hardware and tells windows what hardware and settings your computer has so windows can interact with it. I'm sure someone else can explain it better then me, that is how I understand it.

You should go high performance when playing games, or when doing anything that will use 50% or more processor power. No need to go high performance for watching movies. I go high perf to edit videos which uses 100% cpu.

Hey sorry Silentcrisis. Been a busy weekend with work and being out of town. I am going to start some reviews on games tonight since i have tomorrow off.
The games i am starting with are the ones i currently have installed, i will then move onto another list of games form there. If there is something you would like me to test let me know.
    Starting games in include
    FEAR
    BF2
    Lost Planet Extreme Edition
    HLF2/CSS
    Overlord
    Dawn of war: Dark Crusade.

After those ill move onto Sims 2 and some other games. I have Stalker so i might give that a go to. When testing i will only be using game preset settings meaning whatever they consider High, Medium and Low Settings. Hope this helps some people in deciding and with anything else.

I have problems with the sound. Everytime I scroll down web-pages, switching between windows and stuff like that the sound sounds very crappy (lagging?).

It is VERY annoying. When I play games the sound is normal.

    What is the soloution?

The sound issue is caused by the crappy speakers, no solution.
