Are the -A1s still a lot harder to get than the -A2s? I ordered an -A1 from PortableOne but I'm starting to wonder if I should ask them to change it to an -A2 and I can get a blu-ray drive to add on myself...

Wait Till April 5th shipment to see how many there are.

They might even contact you asking for you to change model if they do have A2 in stock that they can give you instead of an A1

Amazon is not even taking pre-orders anymore. You can only sign up to receive updates when it becomes available. It looks like some are shipping out tomorrow but sadly not mine. Grr. Next shipment for me I guess.

I didn't say you should buy it, I was just acknowledging the fact that they are now available at Newegg, which was proving my point that I don't expect availability on any given date. Tomorrow, B&H might update their site to show stock for the A2 (for the sake of example), but will I order there? No, because I'm getting it cheaper with my current order. Now, if J&R updates tomorrow and shows stock, I have some thinking to do, because I would get it cheaper (and faster) from them than my current order.

You ordered from mwave right? Congratz on the arrival. Feel free to post any reaction (if "holy crap this thing is nice" doesn't fully explain it) you had/are having. In the meantime, I will be attempting in vain to distract myself as the wait grows longer.

About a month ago, I read some people buying it at Microcenter. There are none in my area so I don't whether they are still carrying them. I think the few that any brick and mortar stores may have are getting sold quick.

Microcenter did carry the X2, and has a location near my house so I would have gotten one from them, but they only got a shipment of like 4, which was gone in a week. Microcenter online now says the product is unavailable. There is a Best Buy version, with an entire accompanying thread on the Asus page.

I got an email from UPS that my A2 has shipped and expected to arrive this Friday. I ordered from Portable One on Mar 12. I got an email from Scott earlier today saying they will get more A1 and A2 shipments in case anyone is curious. I had originally placed my order with Xotic but couldn't wait any longer. I've heard people say lately that they will stick with their current reseller because they want their support...but what does that really entail. Aren't all of these guys just passing the customer off to Asus after the sale? Can anyone vouch for the so-called after sales support any of the big resellers have provided to you in the past that differentiates them from another reseller?

Best Buy will just take a notebook back or replace it if they agree that it is defective. For a BB.Com purchase, if you take it to a store they simply refund you and take the machine.

Newegg will RMA for an exchange. Perhaps a refund if they don't have stock for a long time.

I believe that both of those companies send the defective product back to ASUS for revalidation or whatever. I suppose they might even send them back to their distributor but I don't really know. They don't force you to deal with ASUS until the short store warranty elapses.

ASUS would prefer you deal directly with them because it prevents the retailer (and/or distributor) from getting annoyed over returns. From what I've read, dealing with ASUS support sucks for end users. I like things to be expedient and so avoid ASUS support.

Nothing to do with RMA's. Newegg always does that with items that are sold out and they don't know when they'll get it back in stock. When they get more in it will be re-activated.

Anyone here that ordered through Amazon? I did since they use so many resellers and I figured it would up my odds on getting one sooner. I didn't lock-in my order till March 21st.

Now I pray I don't have a lemon since I will have to deal with ASUS directly.

Why, oh why didn't i buy from Xotic?!

Shout out to Joe @ Xotic for taking the time to answer all my questions while I grilled him for answers.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered one from Portable One today. A) They will test it for a while before shipping - ideally with 10.3 drivers and some DX11 test (although no promise there). B) Because they should have them in stock real soon.

I used my "extended warranty" master card, which according to the card company, will indeed give me 2 years accidental coverage and 3 years regular on ASUS since it is a manufacturer's warranty.

Given some of what I see written, both the extra free warranty, and the burn, were both probably really good ideas. Enough of these are comming up bad that I wanted to really try to reduce the odds of a poor user experience - even if it adds a few days to the wait.

I was actually on the phone with Donald from powernotebooks today and he told me that the number of "bad products" that have been showing up are quite minuscule compared to how many are out to customers right now. He also said that most of the errors that people have been reporting is due to them tweaking or messing around with stuff they shouldn't be. Such as updating bios when not needed , overclocking, etc etc. He told me that the notebooks actually work fine out the box as long as you don't mess with it.

Well... yes and no. Mine is still rock-solid *knocks on wood* but there are lots of people who didn't do any tweaking and have had bad GPU's or keyboards. I would say though that this is one computer I'll not be OC'ing or tweaking much at all.

The most keyboard issues I have heard about was LED going off after Bios update.

Some cases have been faulty hardware though on the forums.

Hey all. This is my first post :). Anyway I just wanted to let the guys know that are still waiting that www.portableone.com is getting more than they have backorders. They already got a lot today and the rest is coming Monday.

Someone in this thread mentioned them so I called them and they told me they get a big shipment Monday and some already today. I ordered my Asus G73JH-A1 today at 9am and it was shipped 4-5h later :D. They are authorized asus retailer and very nice and helpful on the phone. Only could not get them down to provantage.com prize :D but their prize is the normal one for the A1 .. much better than newegg.

Yeah apparently they got some more A1's late this week, as I heard a few stories of some people getting their A1's shipped early, while others (like you) were able to order one and have it shipped the same day. Their A2's are coming next week, probably Monday. I. Can. Not. Wait!

I just order a G73JH-A1 today from a local store in the Seattle area and according to them I can pick it up tomorrow. That's a lot better than the "May" pre-order delivery timeframe from the all the other out of state retailers.

I will hopefully be a happy camper tomorrow :)

I think the problem has to do with the initial lag in production due to the Chinese New Year and/or Asus just didn't do a very good job in estimating the demand for the machine.

You got to be kidding me right the Chinese New Year was last month!! They should of prepared and made demographics of what was going to happen, for godsake i can't believe how popular this machine is and how many less people are waiting for it, i preordered the A2 from j and r, and i am told april 21st when it was supposed to come out yesterday.. Some of you already have received it.

Yeah I am a bit confused myself as a few resellers including Xotic had an ETA of yesterday, although you have to keep in mind that's the estimated date of arrival at Asus' HQ; from there the machines still have to be distributed to the various resellers, which then in some cases distribute again to other resellers (according to Joseph@Xotic). So I am willing to bet that the smaller sellers (like J&R) and sellers not in Cali (like Xotic) will start to see the arrival of this shipment in the next few days.

I agree, i agree, i just truly wish i bought this machine first instead of the Alienware R1, i know alienware rocks, but gosh its to to heavy i traded it with my friend for his E6500 i am going to sell that soon enough too with everything. I wish this notebook was made of plastic and some metal too, something. But i always take care of my machines anyway.

Yea, I just received my G73JH-A1 today after waiting for only one day, not months. I spoke to Mike at ComputerSonics.com from the Lynnwood store in the Seattle area and he mention that they have both the A1 & A2 in stock. So, if you want to get one NOW, you can call him at (425) 672-1900.

    I'm definitely a happy camper today :).

Thanks for the info. If I lived in Seattle and hadn't already switched my order, I'd consider it. But with the state of my current order, I can't say for sure that I'd get it any sooner even if I did switch (again). Perhaps others can take advantage of this offer though.

True, maybe Asus should have prepared better, but I still believe they can only make G73s as fast as ATi can supply the HD5870s.

Also remember, Asus best selling laptops are not the gaming series and they have to meet the demands of their more popular laptops.

Hang in there, I hope you all get it soon.

You would think that it has to be beyond their control. I can't see how this is helping Asus. I would guess they are losing some sales due to the delays.
