Some more info for hopeful Canadian owners. From PCCanada:

Asus has again delayed their shipment of the G73JH-A2. The updated date is Mar-11-10 for the initial shipment. The only good news is that the following shipment has been pushed up from Mar-31-10 to Mar-17-10. Your current backorder standing is the same as we only had one cancel.

I do highly recommend PCCanada if you're ordering within the country, their service and support really are top notch.

Yes, but then we can't upgrade the RAM to 1333. I don't think PCCanada supports PC customizing.

No problem. Not offended at all. It is all about what kind of trouble you could get a great guy like Ken into.

Yes, but it said earlier in this thread that you won't notice much difference from 1066.

Not sure what is wrong with the quote below...

If it is the part about Windows Pro - I meant that the US price he offers (the same as all US OEM retailers) is way better than the Cdn Price up here...that is all...

Most machines will come with 1333 anyways...

And, supposedly because of the better latency of the 1066, they are equal anyways.

I still don't get why 16GB is offered as a CHOICE at all customizing resellers for the i7-720 if the max it can use is 8GB.

    Can anyone explain??

Because most retailers only care about what they get in return. They can and most of the time will blame it on people not reading the specs and researching carefully.

They should be ashamed of themselves, pranking on people with less knowledge than others. Apparently the HM55 chipset doesn't support the 920XM either.

Thats odd. According to Intel, the 920 ISN'T supported as Haswell said. On the other hand, the 720-920 are almost identical except for cache and the 920 is basically just reinforced and has a higher TDU rating. maybe the chipset isn't rated to take that heat/power? I dunno. just babbling. heres the link

    From XoticPC.com

PRE ORDER - We do not process credit cards or require pre payment until the item arrives into stock. We fill orders in the order they were received. As of 2/23/10 ETA's from ASUS are March 4th, 11th, 23rd and 30th. Quantities of these shipments are undetermined at this time. Quantities are provided once the units arrive at ASUS.

I think what I might end up doing is just purchasing this laptop on e-bay when ExcaliberPC has them in stock. With BCB and MrRebates, you can get quite a discount. ExcaliberPC's return policy is OK if you find a problem with your laptop within 2 weeks. After that you'll have to deal with ASUS. Looks like I'll have to wait until March.

He's referring to customs dude. Not that Ken sells WIn Pro cheaper. It is a Felony to defraud the government of taxes, duties, VAT whatever. Those charges help to keep interstate and innerstate commerce as balanced as possible. the Canadian government would like it's people to spend as much money in-country as possible. It helps grow the economy, keep jobs and overall improve the lives of its people. So, when one of it's people decide to buy something overseas, the government wants a peice of it, naturally.

I just watched a guy at Candlepowerforums pay $450 for a light, then ask the seller to mark the customs form as a defective flashlight, with a value of $15. Then, he refused insurance because that's a dead givaway to the light's actual value. Obviously, the light came up missing, and the buyer now wants his $450 back from the seller. He's got no recourse, all because he was trying to save a few sheckles.

What IS legal, is for a reseller to test your machine prior to shipping it to you. If he finds that the machine has a defect and then fixes it for you, he could theoretically mark the shipment as RMA.

if this it too out there, I'll delete it as well. Please, no one quote this post.

I RMA'd my X1 over a week ago and the ASUS tech called me yesterday and said they were just going to upgrade me to the A1 or A2 depending on which model came in the March 4 shipment. Not bad for the $1429 i paid on Newegg. I might actually end up with a dual HD and blu-ray for a lot cheaper than i othewise would have paid.

No word from NCIX in Canada as to whether they received their shipment of A1's yesterday. On Wednesday they were apparently still expecting the shipment...

    I am not optimistic. :(

Holy Cow corpfan1! What is going on here? On page 15 you quoted Thic, and in thic's quote there is a bunch of stuff that should not be there!!!! Now, Thic can alter his original post, but he has no ability to alter your post. So YOU have to go back to your post on page 15 and delete the part of thic's quote where Thic talked about Ken.

I just looked, and it's still there. Please edit your post sir.

Maybe i'll get super lucky and still have 1333 RAM and get a laptop bag and gaming mouse that didn't come with the X1. Still makes me wonder what the overall failure rate of the g73 has been so far?

Even MicroCenter has G73s with BluRay...

Is the A1 just the stuff of legends at this point? :)

I mean really - was it just a backpack or mouse shortage? I could have lived without that!

Just to clarify the warranty on the X1's is for 24 months. Says so right on the laptop.

Worst thing about the X1 is that damned HD caddy. My ADD won't let me accept something hackneyed.

For those of you who have followed ALL the G73 threads from the beginning,
there is VERY disturbing news in the current owners lounge. Seems like more,
and more of the G73's have already failed, and been returned. This is NOT
the news I want to hear, and just hope that this new shipment arriving.???,
will be better. Also hope that the problems with the first shipment were due
to bad handling, and NOT a manufacturing issue. To see a ship on its side,
with G73's bailing, is very funny, but hopefully that's all it is.!!!! Not sure what
the percentage failure rate is, but considering the fact that there are not many G73's around, is gives me great reason for concern.!!! :(

For fellow Canucks out there who have ordered from NCIX - There is a post over at NCIX indicating that they are now estimating March 3rd as the arrival date for the A1's (after previously estimating Feb 25th). Why they continue estimating a week earlier than PC Canada is beyond me (other than potentially a slight of hand to get orders from other Canadian Etailers) but that is where it stands now. If this laptop wasn't such a seemingly great deal... nevermind. :)

With the dog sled union being what it is - never! The last thing we want is them going on strike!

EDIT: Just got a reply from NCIX confirming the new ETA of March 3rd for the A1's. I've been considering jumping ship and ordering one of the new Dell Studio 17's - they have similar specs to the G73JH's except lighter weight dedicated video (ATI 4650) but have touch screens. Too bad they are Dells.

first shipment is not only very close, but BIG as well. I need for all this to be OVER while I am still sane,or close to it. :)

Well I suspect I won't get mine. One of the CS reps at NCIX said that they have 50 A1's back ordered but they don't know how many they will actually receive. There is a post from a guy who ordered his on Jan 28th at NCIX who said he was 73rd in line. I ordered mine on the 3rd of February. They've had my full payment for a month now. I think it is time to check other e-tailers in Canada and see how back-ordered they are.

Actually, this is from Justin today at the XoticPC forums:

UPDATE: A1's some hit today at ASUS and more hitting on Friday. A2's are also hitting on Friday. We will not know numbers we are getting until tomorrow and maybe Monday for the Fridays shipment. We will not know where anyone is in the order Q until we start going through orders. We will go through orders in the order they were received. Once we get to your position you will be contacted about your order.

So if you ordered awhile back from Xotic, or other resellers for that matter, sounds like progress!
