Oh ziddy, no need to depress him further...lol

Latest "rumor" from reseller is that the next shipment will arrive
at Asus warehouse March 2. Overnight shipping $85.00 (paid)
Must have A1.......I want...... Maybe by March 3 or 4.?? -
Even if the G73Jh turns out to be a awesome machine, I think it's the last time I pre-order any laptop. So much delays and worries about problems. But again, I won't be buying a new laptop for at least 2 years lol
-
No "screwing" required with the A1, and as for the memory, we too
MAY get the 1333. Have you tried to buy a BluRay drive that will fit
lately.? Seems like even Asus can't get enough of them. Plus, time to
install, and and. No thanks.!! You got your 1333, we may get a better
surprise, who knows.?? Enjoy your A2. -
if you read ALL the tests that have been done here by the owners. So does
it really need the 1333.?? -
-
If any of you guys want to jump ship and get an X1, I have a brand new one I need to sell.
PM me if your interested. -
This thread should have been named the "Torture future A1 owners" due to the
fact that current owners enjoy coming in here and doing just that.
Trust me, 2 months of waiting is becoming a health issue.!!
A1 A1 A1 A1...........where are you.??? -
Well guys, I hate to say it, but I am no longer buying a G73JH, or a laptop in general...
Instead... I bought this!

Damn well i don't blame you at all, now go buy an m11x and that would be an awesome deal.
-
I'm sorry guys! I was gonna hold out for the A1, but sleey0's deal on that X-1 was good enough for me to go for it.
-
Congrats, Cheat!!
I hope you enjoy the G73 as much as I did -
-
And yeah, it just worked for me. I might have the only X1 in Canada! We couldn't get them here. But yeah, didn't need blu-ray (I don't own any!) and I can live with 1 less HDD. 500GB is fine for me, and I might shove an SSD in there later...we'll see! -
I don't have a blu-ray, but wanted a player - so the A1 (or I guess now the X2) helps in that department.
But nice! You get the X1 up north, and avoid the taxes, eh? And sleey0 gets to unload his - the interwebs are magic! -
I will send my polar bear, Charles, after you, then leave you in an igloo naked to die a slow, cold death if it was a Canada joke!! -
My wife's grandparents were from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, so I have empathy for the hockey-loving people to the north . . . and the 5-3 humiliation on Sunday -
-
I'll stop being too off-topic now! Have fun with the X-1, Cheat! -
-
I've decided to cancel my G73Jh-A2 order. Has a bit to do with all the problems that were discovered, but it's mostly for money issue. I'll go for a cheaper laptop that can still play some games (all I really need is League of legends, Torchlight and Borderland...). Might get Asus N61JQ, G72GX-RBBX or the small alienware m11x (if I can find a way to order it in a local shop...). Best luck to you guys I really hope the G73 turns out to be the beast you're all expecting.
-
Hey, TheCheat15, how are you doing man?
So i saw that you ordered a g73jh-x1 from a guy named sleey0, right?Who is that guy?I'm desperated to buy mine man!
Second thing, does anybody knows how much is to buy/put a Bluray reader and maybe burner on the G73???
Thank you! -
-
Edit: It was The Moo. Just PM him! -
so about hte bluray reader, i just have to buy and take it to a store and they put it?Am i going lose the warranty? Is $1507 a good price for a A2???Actually i really want the x1, save $100 would be awesome since a have a 1tb external HD, but i can't find it, not even for pre-order

What is a RMA?

thanks!depending of the price is not a bad idea

After much debating, reading of the countless threads and spec comparisons with other laptops, I just placed my order with pccanada.com for the A2. I don't need the bluray of the A1, and they appear to be getting a much larger shipment of the A2. It's just under a hundred bucks price difference and that's what I've seen those drives go for should I feel the need for one down the road.
I can't wait for "March 4th" to arrive (date put in quotes because let's be honest here, who know when they're really coming in.)
Can't wait to join the owners club. -
I find the A2 for $1507 with 3 days shipping, i just don't know if im going to miss the bluray since i don't have a blu-ray reader in my house(Brazil) and not going to get one so eraly(a ps3 is almost $600), and the A1 is 1600 at the end with tax in Brazil and etc it is going to be $200 more expenseve than the A2 because of the blu-ray. Is the blu-ray that much better than a DVD???
-
It is SOOOOOOO much better - if you want to play BluRays.
-
Buy a BD reader for $70 and install it yourself.
-
Ohhhh god, what should i don now?200 box for a blu-ray?Why can't i buy a X1 for 1400-1450?WHY???rsrsrs
-
ziddy might be the option!Does the blu-ray driver that we have available now works woth the g73?Can i do it?PS:The hardest thing that i ever did was change the video card of my desk top. Am i going to lose de warranty?
-
If you ordered from exotic A1's are coming on march 4th
a mixed batch of A1's and A2's are coming on march 11th -
the problem is that it can't be more expenseve than 1500dolares because of the taxes to take it back to brazil...

Hello, all
I'm considering to purchase the A1 myself, after years of using the same old desktop. I'll probably sit on the A1 for years too, so it makes sense (to me) to buy such a top-of-the-line machine. Now, I'd like a little advice from anybody knowledgable.
[paragraph deleted as requested]
Gentec's site seems to allow you to customize the A1 to a fair degree. What do people think -- does the 1333 memory make a real difference? I'm also considering to order the 16 Gb memory, so that it will be fast for years to come...I assume the 64-bit addressing will handle it ok.
I'm hoping this machine will become the centre of my work / movie viewing (to hd projector I also hope to buy) / gaming (my current computer's so old, I don't play anything modern...yet!). Does anybody use the HDMI output for output to HD tv?
What customizations did anybody order for the A1?
Interested in all constructive feedback... -
Nobody has received any A1 yet. As for the 1333 memory, chances are you'll barely notice any actual diffenrence except under memory test (and some A2/X1 already came loaded with the 1333 memory from asus). I don't think you need more than 8gb and I read somewhere that 8gb is the maximum amount for the i7 processors right now, so don't buy more. Some say a nice SSD would give you faster boot time and execution, but they're really expensive, you might want to wait to swap it later. Oh and seems like swapping the wifi card is a good idea. -
Hello all, new to the boat.
I'm going to pre-order my customized A1 through XoticPC, without the BluRay drive but with 12GB of RAM. I rarely buy BluRay discs anyway.
From what I've read from tons of comparisons, benchmarks and reviews the i7 720QM has the best performance/price ratio, but is the differences in performance really that big between the 720QM, 820QM and 920XM?
Edit: BIG WARNING TO FUTURE BUYERS: i7 720QM only supports up to 8GB of RAM (very much to my disappointment).
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43122&processor=i7-720QM&spec-codes=SLBLY
I guess my money into the extra 4GB of RAM can go into MSO 2007 BSE and the BR drive now... -
I posted in the main forum as to what I will do...
I will likely be replacing the wireless card (6200), getting an SSD down the road as my primary drive (hopefully prices will fall), upgrading my warranty to 3 years, and lastly probably installing Windows PRO.
I just wish I could get a copy of WINDOWS PRO 64BIT cheap...the prices are a compared to the version you can get at Gentech for $100+...
I am a student, but it seems like all deals for WPro ended Jan 5!
Anyways, that is what I am planning - but the standard A1 specs will probably ALL do fine for now....
Would love to go to 16GB (if the price was reasonable) but as someone mentioned for some reason the i7-720 can only do 8GB...
Is this true? Why is it offered as a choice EVERYWHERE as an upgrade????
-
Thank you for the advice, guys.
RAM. You all just saved me $876 by not choosing the unnecessary 16 Gb / 1333 option. Thank you!
Hard drives. I notice that the choice is between 2 drives 500 Gb @ 7200 RPM vs 2 drives 640GB 5400rpm. Does anybody think I would notice a great difference in speed? Otherwise, I am considering to purchase the 640 Gb --again, with an eye to making this machine last for years & years.
Network adapter. The choice is between the standard and the Intel Advanced-N 6200 802.11 for $35 to deliver up to 350 Mbps. I'm still on wires, but I am guessing I'd need a wireless hub cable of up to 350 Mpbs. This seems like a worthwhile investment, unless I have it wrong -- that's where I hope you guys can advise.
Blu-Ray. I want to watch HD movies. Would anybody, beyond the standard built-in 4X Blu-Ray Read/DVDRW Optical Drive, go for the 4X Blu-Ray Re-Writer/8X DVDRW Super Multi Combo Drive for $249 extra? and...Why?
Thank you all in advance for your feedback! -
-
Here you go Even , wouldn't want to put a nice reseller in trouble.
-
I noticed in Part 3 of the main thread, Charles Jeffries was going to post a review of 'The Machine', does anyone know if this is complete, and if so where I can find it?
Thanks in advance, -
-
done. didn't know I broke a rule, apologies. Didn't do it in my second post, so not sure how it offended.
