Better still get the 1333 RAM. If we that ordered first and still haven't received our machines get the 1066 when people that ordered recently got the 1333,.... I would be infuriated.
-
Still hoping for some way of a gift, maybe a headset for the long wait? -
-
i cancelled my order that was made on jan. 3;from gentech.ken was very nice though. i think asus made a bull excuse about blueray shortage:if blueray was the problem they could have produced more a2 models or producd more a1s instead of n71s.they very well knew that g73 are in more demand than n71.

Got my A2 yesterday and just want to say to y'all:
IT'S WORTH THE WAIT!!!
If you can, that is. But this machine has exceeded my expectations by a wide margin, and that's after reading glowing hands-on reviews in the other threads for the past 10 days or so. Awesome is much overused, but applies perfectly in this case. Wait it out if you can, you won't regret it. -
Add me to the club, just pre-ordered. A late starter but delivery is due in 3 weeks, fingers crossed! I need this group to get over the next 21 sleeps, haha.
Edit: Glad there's only 28 days in Feb! -
Pre-ordered mine on Monday from xoticpc. No estimated delivery date.
First time ordering from Xotic, and first time with an ASUS.
I'll just keep melting away into nothingness until it arrives -
-
Can't wait either and can't get my hands on a A2 or X1 due to :
1- I live in Canada
2- I have to buy at a local store cause of some student loan requierement.
Pre-ordered feb 3 (back when the ETA in Canada was feb 11!), can't wait own it! Considered switching for another laptop, but nothing seems to equal that price/performance ratio!
It the ETA is delayed again, I might consider going into desktop options, enen though space is an issue here. -
Just wanted to add that I also am a sad future owner. Preordered from xoticpc on Jan 19th. * sigh *
-
patience...virtue... ...
man o man stupid blu ray shortage crapola
good luck to those new people who just ordered... -
For those who haven't checked the other threads - A2's are on their way to some shops in Canada. The irony is that they may be more of a delay than the A1's! LOL
I made the mistake of assuming they would be sooner and had NCIX switch my order to the A2, at which point they said the ETA would be at least 2 weeks from now. I asked to be switched back to the A1's if it looked like they were going to be shipping sooner (as I also had ordered 3 weeks ago and hopefully didn't lose my place in line).
If it weren't for the fact that my work was offering interest free, payroll deducted financing over two years but with a deadline of March, I would probably hold off for more of the upcoming laptops that automatically switch between integrated and dedicated graphics for better battery life but I would lose the financing deal. As it is, for the buck, the G73 can't be beaten feature-wise at this point. -
I agree - the $ of the G73 is a STEAL - if we EVER get them!
My dilemma is, should I buy in Canada and pay the $250 in tax, or risk an order from the states from Ken and risk duty AND taxes?
I wish CANADA had a place that would add customizations to this laptop! Gosh Canada sucks!
-
Just got in line at BOTTOM LINE TELLECOMMUNICATIONS as they have real time inventory check and expect their ware houses to recieve 317 systems by March 13th with 313 preorders standing... TOO MANY 3's ! Hope it's good luck. Xotic and the rest just tell me things like ... "sometime late March maybeeeee". Everyone talks about some 'Justin' guy from Xotic but he gives the maybe to them as well and he is supposedly THE MAN. I can see him saying "well, that is ASUS delivers the promised number of units" but he doesn't.
Sad and waiting for my Ubermachine.... -
Can an X1 owner post in here if the X1 died and had to be sent out on RMA? I feel like I got a worse deal than you guys. I had my laptop for three days and got to play all kinds of computer games on it and then they took it away. That's cruel.
-
-
No problems there as it is an Asus Global Warranty...so taking it to any Asus dealer will do...
As far as RMA is concerned, Ken is the man and seems like he will take care of his customers...
-
I was tempted to switch my order over to PCCanada as they are in Toronto (closer to me) and I have gotten more straight answers from them than NCIX concerning ETA's. NCIX has had "usually ships in 5-7 days" under the G73JH for the past 3 weeks which seems a little deceptive... I have also paid 100% of the notebook cost and still don't have it - what I wind up paying in interest on that will negate any savings by ordering it from NCIX and not getting charged PST.
I'll be interested in hearing your experience! Watch out for brokerage fees depending on how Ken ships it. -
He said shipping would be around $50 and he would mark it Warranty Repair...so, we'll see.
I may end up getting it at PC Canada too, as I have bought my last 2 desktops there (when they were an actual physical store) and they have provided me excellent customer service.
I would really like to find Windows 7 Pro for a reasonable cost as I would really love to do a fresh install of it and have the disc for future re-installation...
I can't even find it cheap with Student Pricing right now....what the heck is up with that? -
MasqueradingTeabag Notebook Consultant
Thread still going on, eh? I found myself avoiding this forum after everyone got their G73s. Some of whom of course ordered pretty much a day or two before they actually received it from Newegg....Life is not fair =(..ordered 5th of Jan....I'll be lucky to get it mid-March.

Customs Brokers Fees
Fees for customs brokers services are the charges that can really catch you by surprise. Courier companies and postal services use customs brokers to get packages processed through Canada Customs at the Canadian border. Fees for that service will be passed along to you.
Canada Post automatically applies a $5.00 processing fee ($8.00 for Priority Post) for each package to clear Canada Customs.
Customs brokers fees for courier companies vary, but are usually a good deal higher than the Canada Post fee. Some courier companies may absorb the custom brokers fees (including them in the courier service price), depending on the level of courier service you have selected. Others will add the customs brokers fees on top and you will have to pay those before you can get your parcel. If you select a courier service for shipping to Canada, check whether the level of service provided includes customs brokers fees. If it is not mentioned on the shopping site you are using, you can check the service guide on the individual courier company site or call the local number of the courier company to find out their policies.
I've gotten nailed with very high brokerage fees in the past which have negated any benefit from buying online from the states. That's great that Ken is willing to mark the parcel as warranty repair so it helps you avoid paying taxes and duties. Just watch out for the stupid brokerage fees - it's a major racket. -
I'm still thinking about switching to the G72Gx since it would be 500$ cheaper for me and the wait for the G73 is soooooo long.
-
I have nothing constructive to add here except: I'm still waiting!
-
Just a reminder : we're supposed to know tomorrow how much will cost the A2 in Canada and the ETA.
-
Well NCIX is selling the A2 for $1649:

Maybe that will go down tomorrow but I doubt it. -
-
-
I will be waiting for the A1...really want a bluray player for travel.

I was actually tempted to drive to Future Shop to get the best notebook they have but then I smacked myself in the forehead. -
-
well fellas i finally broke down. spoke with Ken at GenTech and I am getting sent an A2 with an upgraded Bluray drive that should be here tuesday. Exactly the same as an A1 but its gunna cost me an extra $15 so its worth it in my eyes. Hope the A1 gets in soon for u guys

well according to xotic:
Thank you for your order with Xotic PC!
A shipment of the Asus G73JH models is scheduled to arrive at the Asus facility the 4th of March. Unfortunately Asus hasn’t provided allocation numbers at this time, which means we will be fulfilling orders on a first come first serve basis. We will send you an order status update if we have a model from this upcoming shipment for your order. If you don't receive an order status update, then unfortunately that means we don't have a model for your order yet. Any order changes that you’d like made can be completed once we have a model for your specific order.
Thanks, Xotic PC -
hi all sad peeps,
eventually we will be either super happy with our new A1's (or any other iteration that was chosen) finally received or annoyed again that it's not here yet...or happy and then later annoyed that it came and we had to send it back cuz its not working right sigh...i saw on the g73jh owners lounge 2 posts by 0100 and quagmire of a checklist of things to do to triplecheck that the machine is in tip top shape (praying that when/if i do receive mine that it will be good to go at first boot) anyways if someones up for making a guide or if someone can point me to a guide of what to do when you first boot this machine that would be awesome
heres a copy and past of 0100 and qs response:

I think the first thing I'll do is remove creative's presence from my machine as soon as it arrives. At first, I won't delete any other bloatware either. Based on all the reports I've seen here, this will be my process:
1. Power on machine and run through initial start up.
2. Verify all 8gb ram are accounted for.
3. Load and run vantage--compare to other owners' results
4. Delete creative bloat
5. Run G73 screen saver, flash videos and check out speakers
if all checks out, I'll load Catalyst driver. Then, I'll load each of the programs I listed before, but this time I'll test the above in between each program
1. Power on machine and run through initial start up.
2. Verify all 8gb ram are accounted for.
3. Load and run vantage--compare to other owners' results
4. Delete creative bloatware (not needed due to 6)
5. Run G73 screen saver, flash videos and check out speakers
6. Install fresh W7 and drivers only
7. Decide what Asus and 3rd party apps to install
Just added my opinion for you. It is much better to decide what goes on then to remove what is there. If you do go the "remove" route, use a good uninstaller like revouninstaller.

I want my... I want my... I want my new PC. (Dire Straits)
NewEgg still hasn't approved my RMA.
Patience is a virtue that I do not possess. -
First time posting here, but I've been reading since sometime in January.
Finally took the plunge and pre-ordered an A-1 from GenTechPC last week - when they called to confirm, they indicated the Early March ETA as well, but I'm sure they're just as in the dark about numbers and exact date, and whether or not later pre-orders will even be covered by the first shipment.
But here's hoping! -
First time post, but have been reading from the beginning.!! Wow.
Ordered A1 Jan 10 and still waiting: O well, now I join the rest of you
here. One day it WILL arrive.!!! -
-
Hopefully! -
Any idea where you can preorder now and get a early/mid march estimate? I keep hearing april from some places and that's just not acceptable for me atm.
-
We don't know. We're not retailers. Maybe you can go PM representatives and ask them.
-
I was offered a A2 on Feb 5 by my reseller and said NO.!! I want the Blue
Ray. So, to all those who are playing with their A2's I say, you folded and
we, the sad and depressed, will have the last laugh.!! -
-
You realize you can buy a BluRay drive for $70, less than the A1 upgrade, open up the back panel, pop a screw and throw in the BD player? I think we still have the last laugh. And those of us who caved also got the 1333 ram upgrade free whereas with your A1, it may be back to the 1066 or pay extra for the 1333.
