Oh, let them have their fun. I'm glad SOMEONE out there is getting their computers. Unfortunately, I bought mine through ComputerSonics.com and apparently was just a few orders short of getting it tomorrow! Now, they're out of the A1s and I'm at the top of the waiting list for their next shipment in about two weeks. Lame.

But hey, if you're getting your computers, please... post comments, concerns, reviews, reactions, etc.!! It's all the rest of us have to go on until we get ours. :p :(

It's the same laptop sans bluray. In some cases it has a bluray, but is not the A1 model.

Can everyone list when they put in their order, from where and when it ships what day it did so if there's a site that's able to ship them out sooner we can all know about it.

    xotic
    Ordered 4/4/10
    shipped: Probably sometime in May

switch to powernotebooks lol..I canceled from Xotic and placed an order with powernotebooks on April 1st and it shipped on the 7th

There's nothing wrong with xotic but xotic has a TON of orders which is why everyone who orders with them has to wait a long time whereas other resellers who are just as good have less orders and ship the same exact item with same specs/warranty/policy everything.

I'm tempted as I see they already fulfilled their orders through March? But my payment is in and I'm in the queue not sure if I want to go through the hassle of cancelling just yet.

Ok so just ordered from Extreme PC out of Ontario...risky? perhaps...they claim they have stock...Am I impatient...most assuredly! I have to admit I am part of the "I WANT IT NOW" generation... Are they a few dollars more yes...but not much. Make sure you get the coupon to save $65..hehe... Will I get my lappy.....hmmmm...hope so :) It was between this and the Sager/Clevo 8720. Really tough choice for me..."flexibility and stability vs cool stuff" Even with all of the issues I have seen with the ASUS I still pulled the trigger and hope I don't regret it...I am so fascinated with lighted keyboards and all that "too good to be true stuff" that is part of this laptop :0 At some point I had to make a frickin decision...Oh and I bought a SSD to just to throw in for a boot drive.

I ordered mine from PC Canada. Shipped the same day. More power to you because I wouldn't wait 3 months for a laptop.

I know companies like xoticpc and powernotebooks are great. But the wait time is very long. I'm still in phase for for xoticpc. Anyone Know a good site that have little wait line with customization?

I've heard great things about GenTech, and they have an individual who frequents this board.

I would give them a shout to check.

I had a three week wait with Gentech. But I think it all depends on how many are on the waiting list and when they get stock. But when I ordeded I new it would be about a month and was never told a week...a week ...a week. Not saying the others are doing that but you know how some places are. They have no control. So I would just ask how long the wait is or go to Best Buy if you can't wait.

Just to weigh in my thoughts.

I finally received my G73 on March 31st. I pre-ordered Jan 9th. I shoulda came back and said 'good bye' to this thread but was having too much fun at that point!

Anyways, during this TORTUROUS wait :)P) I emailed GenTech (who I bought my machine from) maybe two dozen times. I was answered very quickly each time. Kept me sane lol.

I feel the personal level of service I received really helped me feel comfortable throughout the wait and also during the shipping process (I am overseas). I ended up getting the package a few days earlier than Ken had anticipated and that was a nice surprise.

I had to load the wifi 6200 drivers but everything else was and ha been working great. the machine has been on for about 3 weeks now and i have not had a single issue (thank goodness). I have taken it on about a dozen flights including internationally and it has survived my own silliness (dropped a bunch of liquid on the keyboard and FREAKED OUT lol i wish i had a camera of that moment). Its just a beast and works great.

I also just wanted to add a big thank you to everyone who has contributed in their own way to help others and myself. Great forum. :)

The good news is that I will be receiving my G73 next Tuesday...the bad news is that I will out of town for 2 weeks... :( Ordered from Express PC out of Canada...paid a bit more but they had in stock. Can't wait to fire it up...

Just canceled my order at Extreme-PC. Looks like I'm back in shopping/waiting mode...I am now considering switching to the new 8760-S1 Sager that is being offered...Looks to be a very good deal by comparison...Just don't know if I can give up the sweet looks of the G73...Dammit I thought I was done thinking about this crap...I made my decision and was just awaiting delivery... :realmad:

Made my decision fast this time thanks to the excellent discussion I had with Donald with Powernotebooks...what a professional! Being able to discuss at length what your needs and desires are and not feel rushed or pressured is not a common occurrence. :D I can't say enough how impressed I am with his professionalism and courtesy...

I will be using this laptop for personal as well as some work related projects. I purchased 12GB Ram as I will need to run several virtual machines. Also it will be configured with 3 internal hard drives...an SSD primary and the (2) 500GB as secondary and tertiary. The 3rd drive will be placed in the ODD slot and I will use an external Blue Ray drive. So put me back on the waiting list for this beast!!!! :)

This is funny as I heard that you cannot have more than 8GB ram with that processor/motherboard, but maybe it is not true :p you will see :D I still need to wait one more week, mine is at JFK now in NYC.

Hmmm...definitely would like to get confirmation on that! Hopefully that is not the case as all of the custom vendors allow you to configure it with the 720 and 12 or even 16GB of RAM. Given what I perceived to be excellent product knowledge on the part of Donald at Powernotebooks I would be surprised that he would allow this config to go out if it didn't work.

 I got this email from www.portableone.com today:

    Good afternoon-

In interest of keeping you informed we have another update from ASUS on the elusive G73JH notebooks.

ASUS has again slipped the G73JHs to late this week with a possibility for next week for both the A1 and A2 models.

Sorry for the news… we are disappointed as well, but we want to keep you informed to the extent that we can. The good news is we have many more on order than what we’ve pre-sold so as long as ASUS delivers in full all our backorders will be filled when ASUS has their next shipment ready.

We are working on arrangements to pick up as many locally as possible so we can get your orders to you as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions please let us know. Thank you for hanging in there!

Grr....FedEx blew me off - Was on truck for delivery this morning, then the driver used the "not scheduled for delivery until tomorrow" excuse to not have to swing by and deliver it. What a d*ck heh. FedEx and home offices don't mix - my UPS guy would never do that to me!

And I never wanted to come back to this Sad/Depressed G73JH-A1 group :)

Ok... I've ordered an A2...sorry, but I saw no sad A2 future owners group. I ordered on around March 17th from ExcaliberPC on Ebay~ still have not received it yet. Their first 'reschedule' had been to April 4th or 5th? and I popped them an email asking if my order had been sent or delayed. No response from them, yet they added on their page that 'preorders can cancel orders with no penalties'. I chose them as they were the only ones who indicated international delivery as possible. Still waiting. This thing is supposed to replace my desktop, which is being donated to the missus. Her desktop is dying, and I've just had to send in my HDD for a 'hopeful' repair so I can keep the data on it after it died (Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500G) and bought a new 1T to replace it. So I am now struggling to do my online work with a very very old Asus notebook (A6T? A6000 series. OLDDD) that has cracked casing and is soooo close to dying. Would be nice to know where I sit in their line of preorders.

If you go through this thread - it's a slog, but maybe you can use search -- you will see that somebody already looked into this. I was going to order 16 Gb memory myself, until I found out about the 8 Gb limit. The post had a link to Intel, and showed 8 Gb was the limit. If this is not the case, and the full16 Gb can be usable, somebody please post it here.

The HM55 Chipset can handle 16GB the i7-720 says 8GB (depending on configuration)

I have seen people on here with more then 8GB working in there G73.

Well, I am sure that the computer will permit the installation of the 16 GB memory, but if the computer cannot usably address beyond 8 GB, what's the point of purchasing 16 GB?

After looking again I can't confirm my findings. I thought I had saved the link but can't find it. So until further notice disregard my statements regarding max supported. However I do have the link to the i7-720 showing 8GB (or more depending on configuration)

xoticpc said it can handle up to 16GB of memory, and HM55 is supposed to be able to handle up to 16GB of memory.

You can select 16GB on xoticpc and they test all their machines, ergo it supports 16GB.

Also I saw someone running 12GB, but I've never heard of a memory limit not being a power of 2 (1,2,4,8,16,32) on a 4 slot board....

I would agree that based on the fact that most Asus resellers will let you configure the G73Jh with 16gb of RAM, that it's a pretty strong indicator that it is supported. I can't personally verify an i7-720QM working with 16gb of RAM in an Asus G73Jh, but I can personally verify an i7-920XM working with 16gb of RAM in an Asus G73Jh. Also both CPUs share similar memory specs.

    Good Luck..

The spec sheet for the i7 720QM indicates no, it's 8GB. But it does say it supports 1333 speed. Why reseller would sell 16GB? Because they can and it's awesome way to make a profit.

So what if Windows recognizes it. The memory is controlled by the memory controller on the i7, now Windows 7.

The last shipment at xotic bumps estimated 20 people to phase 2/4. According to justin_w, that was the "small shipment". the next one on apr 29th supposed to be a "large shipment".
