I "sort of" get the user of SetFSB but can someone tell me what role the bottom slider plays in overclocking? I appears to change the pci-e frequency but I don't know what affect that really has.

I never have used that bottom slider, I dont know what it is for to be honest. I only use the top slider, and that I do in small increments so I dont BSOD. once I get my new CPU I will have it done automatically.

Hmm....never happened to me....doesn the fan still run at high after another reboot?

    Oh, on another note:

Have any of you guys encountered that sometimes the audio just goes out? This has happened to me two times now: the audio just went off and wouldn't come back on. I had to reboot and go in the BIOS to change the volume settings in there once (like move it from 6 to 5 and then back to 6 again) before it would actually have sound. Headphones are fine though. Both times, I had sound at POST disabled.

It can help you overclock your graphic card and apply more voltage to it if you raise it, if I remember correctly. But I also think it overclocks ALL of the PCIe lanes, so if your NIC or your Firewire are on other PCIe lanes, it can be dangerous for them.

All but those looking at world records don't touch them. :)

Gotcha...I'll just leave it alone then and dink with the top slider. Thanks for your responses.

Yeap.. i did a restart and the fan was still at top speed... so I shutdown the pc, then it started running as usual again... What i think is weird, is that even when im stressing 100% my CPU/GPU and temps rising, i cant get the fan to run at that speed, which was keeping my GPU belows 80C under stress.. o_O

that happened to me the first day as well. but it was probably definitely for sure my fault. :p i accidentally closed the laptop (therefore putting it into sleep mode) and reopened it quickly. probably... too quickly. i guess it all didn't register correctly because windows pretty much crashed and the fan was on full blast. couldn't do anything but hold down the power button to shut it off. hasn't happened since.

is there a way to make the fan run faster? because i think the way the fan is controlled is a little goofy. it takes high temperatures (+80c) before the fan even really kicks in. and what sirhase is saying makes me think this laptop could and should be cooler under stress.

edit: also, how do you know how much of the gpu and cpu is being used?

Well, the fan doesn't really kick in until around 90C so during stress tests if your GPU never reached that temp, the fans wouldn't increase in power. CPU wise, I don't think it ever gets hot enough for the max fans to kick in.

You can tell with the CPU through the task manager. With the GPU, however, you'd need to use some other 3rd party software. I don't know any off the top of my head but I suppose nTools probably can do it.

is the full version of crysis better optimized than the demo? because on the demo high was barely playable during certain firefights.

Does anyone have a link to a driver that fixes the keyboard issues with only recognizing a certain number of keys at a time? I've been reading through / searched but its just not happening with 92 pages, thanks.

    Not warhead but Crysis itself.

Sadly, yes. The Crysis engine is like what 2 years old now and it is still the most graphically intensive one out there.....I blame the consoles for holding everyone back since they don't have the hardware to run any new engines out there well

Warhead is actually more system friendly. Original crysis was awsome but got a bad rep cause no system could run it unless you were willing to spend like 5k to run max setting. Then the sequel which was crysis warhead was tweaked and use less system resource.

    Crysis = Vista
    Warhead = quasi Vista SP2 or Windows 7 :D

Just wait until we get chainsaws. How were the temps, by the way?

    I haven't done a L4D marathon on the G51, but I remember I hit 90C with my G50vt-X6 once... on a cooler.

Love it too! Temp wise, i HAVE hit 90c on L4D, as with most other games... the fan wont kick in until then anyways. its usually around 80's tho.

On a cooler, with CPU undervolted to 1.150, and GPU set to the standard 550/1375/950, I crested at 84C for the 260m after about three hours of maxed out L4D. Well, almost maxed out. I only had AA to 4x.

I put a second HD in my g51 and, every so often, I hear a beep and a click a couple of times coming from the hard drive area and then it quits. This happen to anyone before? anyone know what it is...as far as I can tell both HD's work just fine.

I also get the occassional whirs and clicks, but that's normal.

yeah, but it's not in post...it's after the os starts and the HD is "louder" than normal. I mean, it almost sounds like it's failing but, like I said it quits after a bit and I can access the hard drives just fine.

What type of HDD do you have? Some brands just run louder than others.

Have you checked out your new drive's health?

They are both seagate's....I ran the seatools and they both pass the SMART check...I dunno. Maybe it's nothing...just weird I suppose and not something I've experienced before. It's the beep that get's me...I've had loud hard drives before.

Just treat it as a HDD quirk for right now. If you notice anything out of the ordinary--higher temperatures, slow read/write, bad HDD health, that's when you worry.

I've been playing Arma 2 and L4D Max for four hours and the MAX temp was 85 with a NC2000. But from the time I stared using the NC2000 my idle temp went up. I don't know why, its kinda odd, my room temp hasn't changed.

i could barely play the arma 2 demo on medium. is the full version better optimized or something?

i want to get a cooler, but what's the difference between the NC2000 and the NC1000? the 1000 is $15 cheaper.

how about this!! can lower temp more than 10c or more,
    idle@40c
maximun load or full load@85c (normally running crysis warhead with overclocked cpu and gpu without this fan about 30mins my temp reached 93-98c).

    less cost do more

This fan use AC power becasue USB doesn't have enough power to drive the fan.

PS. I'm still looking for a small one so it can fit the power of usb port plus easy to carry out with my laptop.

Has anyone try this one yet? http://www.xoxide.com/evercool-nbfa1-notebook-fan.html same concept as mine.
